Use to b home away from home I go way back to ice skating parkway floor for b ball and the pool was great. A place Ill never 4get. Not the same but it do what it do for those who use it.

Went there for the first time 8/5/17. Definitely wasnt what I expected. Facility was super clean. Pool, restroom, and changing rooms were impecable. The only thing that messed up the facility was the life guards. Dont get me wrong they were very nice people but they werent paying much attention to the kids swimming. They were too busy joking and talking to each other and playing around with some of the kids there. I feel that as a life guard you need to be more professional and watch these kids in the pool because they are there to save a life if a child drowning. I will come again. Hopefully next time they do pay more attention.

Very large with numerous activities for kids and adults. I love that there are separate weight rooms for men and women. The pool area offers a large locker where you can safely store your belongings. There is a ramp to safely enter the pool, noodles to play with, and water weights for aqua aerobics. There is always a lifeguard on deck. Best of all, there are swim instructors who offer classes for all ages.

Not the old JFK we remember as kids,its now very clean with all new equipment.staff is helpful and polite

I lived in Newark, New Jersey (2012-2017) before returning to Texas, and I must say the JFK Aquatic Center is truly a gem in the city. Whether a leisurely swim or relieving stress, the aquatic center offers fond memories of a retractable roof stadium, where the lifeguards converted 25 meter swim lanes to 50 meter lanes, June to September, annually. Thanks to all the staff (lifeguards Arius, Mike, and Clarence (who passed away) for your work and kindness.Respectfully,Roshin

DROPPED the ball completely and I dont mean the little kids at the front desk I mean the Director entirely. My son has been coming to JFK for swimming lessons on our last session I mistakenly left my car keys in the bathroom attached were my Airpod. Unfortunately when I realized and came back they were not there but at the front desk where the lifeguards stand.Upon realizing that they were stolen (which I completely understand is my own fault), I called and asked to view the cameras because the person who brought the keys to the front WAS ON CAMERA and I would like to see whom that was.They first gave me incorrect information which caused us to go to 94 William street just for them to state we must write an incident report at JFK and then the DIRECTOR would contact us about viewing the cameras. I did all this the same day which was this past Friday.Today is Tuesday I have not received any call by the one person who is over 23 years old there THE DIRECTOR. What type of Director are you, where is your professionalism?For Newark to be turning around they need to hire proper Management staff for those for lack of better words is ghetto. I simply requested to view the cameras!

Unfortunately, they only give swimming lessons only in summer. I believe it should be given all year around since it’s is very crucial to know how to properly swim at all times. Things are mostly disorganized over there.

Everyone has an attitude, You can just feel the negativity as soon as you walk in, especially if you’re a youthful black male, It’s like I’ve already done something wrong just walking in, not to mention you can’t even really use all areas of the pool because I’m guessing there aren’t enough lifeguards and the one that was there was in his phone at post ... Need I say more ?

Wonderful staff and nice amenities. The M&MS Halloween event they do is exceptional for the community.

Had to pay a membership fee just to go in to be treated rudely by adolescent/ young adult life guards. No manners what so ever and when you try to report them, management don’t check them on customer service and professionalism but stand in their defense because it’s family so that’s why they feel like they can say and do anything. You can be trained to do anything but if there’s a lack of morality you’re not going to get far... just Newark bound. Trained to save a life perhaps but not trained on mannerism. Completely ruined my experience at the pool. They call out what they want to call out and ask me how many times they used the whistle when they did spot a violation... not once. How am I able to speak on this because... go to a pool with Caucasian lifeguards which is sad to say right but check it... they will sit at their stations quietly most of the time and blow that whistle half the time watching like a hawk for the safety and well-being of the aquatic environment for the slightest of things. Nope not JFK. Anyone who says they had a good time there it’s because they were speaking their ratchet language trust me which is all they’re capable of dishing out. Newark isn’t the worst but has a reputation for unfriendliness and ratchet messes. Go out towards south Jersey they DO NOT bother you. It’s calm, cool, collected, and clean. JFK has the nerve to charge... lol try to make a come up on the disappointing background they have... mind boggling! Not even star rating JFK and if it does it’s because that one star was automatic by the web somehow...trust!

This is one of the best kept secrets in Newark. Great swim classes and exercise classes.

Its the largest indoor/outdoor Olympic pool in the state of New Jersey. Its open all year around. The roof is opened in the summer and closed at the end of summer. Its a clean safe facility with engineer on site. Also attached is a work out gym and basketball court with a pool table. You cant beat that. Especially in a city as large as Newark.

Beautiful HUGE pool! Large locker rooms (usually very clean). Lockers are a little dated but functional. About 10 showers. Trainers all over for reasonable rates and facility offers FREE group classes for children and adults. Very relaxed atmosphere. Did I mention the pool had a convertible top?! It rolls back for summer and becomes an indoor pool for winter! Needless to say it is one of Newark’s best kept secrets; a true diamond in the rough.

I love going to this swimming pool me and my friends go here almost everyday for me it a five star there’s nothing bad in here!

The pool was warm and inviting. I didnt want to get out. The lockerroom was clean. The swim class instructor was excellent. His instruction assigns delivery was extremely comprehensible and insightful! I love it!

This location head meant great programs for the youth and elderly. The gym could use an upgrade and the locker rooms too. But overall the location is clean, the Olympic size pool is also amazing. This location is all year long with a roof that opens up during the summer to give folks hanging in the pool an outdoor feel!

I was there this weekend with my kids, the place was very clean the representative at the front desk was very professional and well spoken, I’m happy my kids love going there .

I been going here for years;; going swimming in the summer playing basketball an enjoying the recreation as a kid. Its a great place to keep the kids off the streets. An they also have programs for seniors. Come check them out.

Ive only been to it once before sometime in June 2017, and it was a wonderful experience. Very clean pool, maybe too much chlorine lol. And nice long laps for those that like to swim continuously. And a nice big section for those free roamers out there. Its awesome, if you like to swim give it a try. And you cant beat the fee of $5 bucks a year

Its a great place it needs to be open when the kids are on holiday from school so the kids have a place to go I would believe thats the reason for these places unfortunately theyre closed on holidays with makes no sense

The JFK Recreation Center, especially the pool is one of Newarks best kept secrets. it is truly a gem. The life guards who work there all year round are very polite, caring, helpful and very compassionate. They give you tips whenever they can on aerobics and swimming techniques. They are always on task. The facility is very clean. I noticed that the facility is not as clean right now during the summer, but I reckon that the volume of people may be the cause of this. There are loads of mature women and men, who are professionals that frequent the pool daily during the morning hours. We work out, we talk politics and we khow to make Newark better. I love this place!

I was there at 10:30 the gaurd told me the weight room open at 11:am I called someone else told me 11:30 everyday I go on the weekend Saturday morning at 9 theyre always open, But someone doesnt seem to know the hours so now Im outside waiting in the sun for them to openVery poor service twords me

Swimming exercise aerobic,for me seniorGrand boys swimming or gym for basket ball if big boys willing to let them try .Hops are to high.plus the bigger boys have lesson,girls also lots going on in that recFor the teens.add on they did put lower basketball hop for 5 years old children,my nephew had fun. THEY Have so many programs for the youth and free.

The facility where basketball takes place needs to have better on deck/hands on equipment. The rims outside look better than the rims inside the gym, with nets included. The basketballs were worn out and had plenty of knots in them. Also you guys having an air pump but no air pin for the pump or balls seems like an oxymoron. Unless the items are there but the employees just dont want to get them. Ive been coming to this place for years and have never encountered that issue until 3/6/18.

All of the workers have been extremely friendly and professional. The facility is clean. I’m enjoying my exercise class. It’s very affordable!

The pool is okay. When you arrive you have to sign in and pay 5 dollars per person who is going in and only with a credit cards. Then you go to the locker room which is amazingly big with stalls for changing. Along with another room for the bathroom and another for showing. The lifeguards are extremely overprotective but above all, all I have to say is that although Ive never been to the other places that are at the recreation center the pool is okay.

My twins are swimming in less than 2 months. The Trainers are wonderful and very patient. My twins love them all. They cant get enough of the water.

A lot has changed. Theyre now charging to enter the pool area which I thought was free for Newark residents but somehow were now being charged $5 for a membership card?The day I was there I was wondering why it was so empty when the temperature was in the high 90s...I knew then something wasnt right. We have to do better Newark!

Very disappointed and the way I was treated after I booked an event 6 months in advance and then was told could not have that event there two days prior to the event when I made a complaint to the city of Newark they cancelled my whole event but luckily my sister works for City Hall she was able to retrieve my place. But I will never booked another event at JFK Center. Book at your own risk.

The City of Newark continues to do a great job maintaining this treasure of a sports facility! The Olympic sized pool is also the largest indoor and outdoor pool in NJ. Staff are doing a great job.

Its for me to exercise, getting my body into shape, training my fighting skills and to do my very best!

Mike Garrett is the best water instructor. He gives the seniors one heck of a workout. He is one of Newarks best kept secrets!

Really nice community rec has swimming pool, basketball court, karate someday can rent for partys and activities also.

Its backward like the jungle in Africa. Pretty much how most things are in Newark. The director Ms. Bowers is the worst. She will not even take a complaint. The pool is dirty, the kids stink and are out of control. Do not bring your daughter. Security does not care about sexual harassment. Only to harass you about your signature.

It has changed since I was a little girl because I was raised over that way but it seemed greatly well taken care of and it was a safe environment.

Its one of the first and immediate local pools I visited, the DORCA implementation as well as the minor updates to the (mens) locker room such as proper dressing stalls, and filling in some empty space with a brand new family bathroom, its honestly my favorite public pool to go to in my area, especially since theres less of a chance of getting robbed thanks to DORCAs... pay wall that comes more expensive for outsiders but is infinitely affordable for Newark Residents. Oh, and please follow the rules, for everyones sake, so the pool doesnt get randomly halted by the lifeguard staff reminding you of things you should have done in the first place.

Ive been trying to find a pool to swim in for the longest that I wouldnt have to pay an atm an a leg membership for. Unfortunately trying to get information for the pool and is hours are pretty crappy.The pool on the other hand is very nice. The locker rooms could use a slight makeover, but I dont spend more than 10 minutes in there to change anyway. Olympic size and lifeguards are attentive. They have a kiddie pool that is 10 inches deep and the pool starts out at 47 and goes deeper from there. So far it has been a staple rec area for me and my son when I pick him up from daycare.

Kids summer camp is not good, the counselors have the kids 3 or more hours on there cell phones. The kids do not get adequate lunch. My son is never going here again.

I had a lot of fun swimming there with my fiance and two children. It had lots of Locker space and my stuff didnt get stolen, LOL. Had a lot of fun swimming with my daughter in the baby pool as well.

My son practice basketball there with his school team.Restrooms are available. Pool is open and only cost $5 for Newark residents and $15 for non resident per year!! The pass allows you to use all the facilities all year.Even karate is there! Not much parking but available for free.

Worst Service & the director Ms. Bowers is the worst. I was told to bring my son to learn how to swim on Tue & Thus then they switched it to Saturday. The first Saturday was fine. Then I got hit with the you need to get in the pool with him.. When I ask why I was told this is a Mommy & Me Class but according to the paper that I was given the Mommy & Me was for 4 and under. My son is 6 and was in the preschool program. My son was the only one in the class. Fast forward, when I spoke to Ms. Bowers her attitude was worst then the swim instructor thats is always texting during session. If the Director attitude is awful, how do you think that staff will treat consumers. JFK dont honor the programs on the city schedule, and I quote from Ms. Bowers mouth, JFK makes their own Rules. Never again...
