The inside has a nice clean neat look about it. We didnt eat food but drinks are okay. The service was good and not distracting like other comedy clubs. Comedians were funny and different which is good. Just beware there is a two drink minimum.
The manager was really rude. I think her name was Lori? Comedians were really funny, food was good and the club had a nice interior. The waitress was friendly, but the manager was just really snappy at us. Like as my date and I were walking in even. We weren’t heckling or talking during sets or anything. Her vibe was just terrible and she was very patronizing. Kinda put a damper on what would’ve been a great experience. Not sure if I’ll go back cause of her...
I live in this neighborhood and I tried to go with an open mind with some hope to be better three times. Not going anymore. Every time I went crowd was getting less and less. And comedians are not even trying to be funny. if one person doesnt laugh, one can say that person is picky but when all 17 in audience doesnt laugh club should give customers their money back.
Ive been in the restaurant industry for 20 years, and a fan of comedy for 10 or so... I rarely review a spot, and I usually never go anywhere for at least a month after it opens.I went here during their first week, and I was blown away at the thoughtfulness put into every step. The room looked exceptional. Lighting is tricky in a comedy club, and they nailed it. Candles were on the table, enough to illuminate the menu (which had an easy large, white font to read by candlelight... why do comedy clubs always mess this up?). The stage looked great, and the acoustics were perfect.I didnt order food, so I cant review it, but the menu was a notch up from most comedy offerings, not surprising as their partner restaurant is the upstairs neighbor.Normally, the three most distracting things in a comedy club are people going to the bathroom, the servers, and the bar (rowdy hecklers aside). The fact that the bar and bathrooms are ostensibly behind the audience made those two a non issue, and although my server was all by himself, he was an attentive ninja. He even settled the tabs in a timely manner, very difficult to do with 20+ tables at once.I dont think its fair to review the comedians after one night, and Im not a comedy critic anyway, but suffice to say I got my moneys worth. Speaking of money, these were some of the most refreshing sized Jack on the rocks Ive seen for $12.00 in a while. The tables werent sticky. I never heard the bartender scoop ice or toss a glass in a bin. The bathrooms were clean and located in the foyer. The booker thanked me on the way out. Details, details, details. The fact that my experience was perfectly spotless is a testament to the long résumé of the owners and opening team.We finally have a viable contending uptown comedy club to handle the surplus of talent the city currently has to offer. I have been dismayed at many dive bar and theater shows Ive tried uptown, and would have been the first to decry this club for making the same mistakes. Happily, it made none. Well done, youll be seeing me.
Ok. So the reason we go here is: 1). Great comedy; 2). Decent drinks; 3). Service; 4). Food ; So, 1). the comedy is always fresh and first class (we often bring visiting friends from all over the planet and they rave about it so much that we are pretty much obligated with each new visitor)! 2). The drinks are not your average selection as you can order anything from the super hip bar upstairs and they are not parsimonious with their alcohol!! 3). The hospitality began with our host, Lori, and the culture trickles down to everyone on the staff. They want you to have a great experience!! And they take that job seriously!! You will enjoy your night here! 4). Are you serious?!! The restaurant upstairs - Playa Betty, with such a great reputation offers their yumminess downstairs at the club! And, that seals the deal!! Check it out ! Respectfully; Karen & Robert !
Good comedy and decent prices. Some of them arent funny, but of the two times Ive gone, at least half of the comedians had me cracking up. Good for large groups. Dont sit near the front, or you will be picked on (I enjoyed it, personally). Ill definitely be coming back for more.
Westside comedy club is awesome. Had a wonderful laughter filled evening!! They have great line up of comedians! We were lucky to have found free tickets and just had to pay cover( drink) charges ! Good food and friendly ambiance. Fish tacos are really good ! Great Food and fun what more do you want to prep up your Monday night! definitely recommended!
Absolutely terrible. Lots of negatives to list here. Comedians who need to attack audience members are not comedians. Very desperate attempt to be funny. Doors were meant to be open at 10:30 but we were not seated until 11. Two drink minimum consisting of watered down cocktails. Never walked out of a comedy club questioning if I should call my bank to apologize for paying for such an atrocious place.
Good layout and was a funny main comedian on a Sat night, good crowd. I get the 2 drinks thing and the cover charge but they add an automatic 18% tip onto the drinks and the cover charge. So for the 6 drinks we ordered (which came to $60) they added another $22 in tips Thats a 37% tip on drinks! and then they hope you dont notice add add another optional tip below that! Ripping off customers is not good business practice.
Not bad stand up comedians, highly irregular though. We saw T. J. Miller from Sillicon Valley TV show and other good stand ups but the problem was the manager and food. The fish tacos were cold and gummy, the guacamole the worst in my life and the totochos were terrible. Really expensive. The waitress came 5 times in order to say the card didnt work, but it worked perfectly. When we were at the exit door we were told not to leave the place because we havent paid! Of course we had paid! It was a misunderstood because the manager didnt checked with the waitress but the whole situation was really nasty and the manager was horribly rude.
Amazing comedy performance by this comedian named Marv Glover. It was absolutely flooring. However I’m giving this location 1 star Bc the manager Laurie was really nasty. She is very short with the guests and very rude attitude. Her energy turned me off and the way she spoke to my guests and I was no way to speak to anyone who is unaware of specific rules. It was our first time and we will not be back. Good thing the show was enjoyable. But I really wanted to get out of there. I asked to speak to a manager and found out she was the manager YIKES!!! Horrible customer service. No people skills!!
Great place to go for a great laugh! The food comes from the Mexican place upstairs, which is great, because tacos and guac go great with comedy. Decent selection of wine and drinks and overall great service. The comedians are very funny and enjoyable. Bathrooms are clean. Definitely recommend.
One star. Laurie the manager. She got me fired because being over. 15¢ in my cash register. She tried to yell at me in front of customers because a comedian ate her burger and I told her dont yell at me. Watching ur food is not my job, I am the bartender. So the next day being short. 15¢ was the reason to let me go. Now I called for my W2 spoke to her. I never saw my W2 come in the mail at ALL.. Nina u need to fired her, she is bad business. Read the reviews on her.
Love this place - good vibe, good food and even better drinks. Absolutely hilarious stand-up in the Upper West Side. 5 stars all the way!
Find comedians with some substance in their acts. I didnt laugh at all. Very awkward. And only 5 people in audience on a Saturday night.
On 9/16, I went out by myself to see some good comedy and I enjoyed every comic! However, the food and service was terrible. The server charged me 18% gratuity on my meal and drinks. I paid $12 for a very small burger and tots. My meal was served cold :(
The food was good, but the Sunday night line up is at best amateur. Should try another night when Greer Barnes is around. Poor jokes, spectacularly poor rhythm. It was as entertaining as a drunk uncle telling over and over the same dirty jokes, except that you do not have to pay for it... The best moment was when I got my check to leave the basement.Maybe it was not their best night.
Great underground NYC spot. Comedians are funny. Venue is run by women. WSCC is a space to discover new comics & hang out with friends.
I was there for the Sunday night show. Very poor line up, place was almost empty. Most of the comedians were amateurs. For a good comedy show, my go to is the comedy cellar or the village underground. I’ve been there so many times and i was never disappointed. I was actually expecting to have a similar experience here but it was not at all worth it. The food is served by Playa Betty which means you get to eat good tacos, but I’d recommend doing that at the restaurant where you actually have a nice ambiance.
Fun place as a comedy club should be. There is a drink minimum. I mention that because there is always a minimum at a comedy club. Please be aware of this and dont be the party that decides this is not proper in the middle of a show.
A great club that treats comedians well. great shows, good food, if youre in the UWS def on my top places to check out!!!!
New Club in the basement of Playa Bettys across the street from the Beacon Theater. There are a lot of great comedy clubs in New York City with great talent. This one has great talent AND great food. They have access to Playa Bettys great California Mexican menu PLUS a few special treats of their own. The room is smaller than some of the comedy theaters in NYC. So you feel the energy and show. I personally love it when Tom Kelly of @TomKellyShow is there. Hes hilarious. Ask when hes on!
The biggest laugh in town!
If visiting the mens room at Mexican Resturants puts you in the mood for standup comedy then someones built a place just for you!Theres nothing necessarily wrong with this place being hidden in the basement of a Mexican Restaurant, next to the bathrooms (NOTE: this place is seemingly inaccessible to anyone who cant walk up and down a flight of stairs). Still, IMHO, it says alot about the type of place it is.I only went once, to see someone specific and was disappointed by the show itself. The club seemed to only have one waitress working who was stretched thin. Mixed drinks were very weak and sometimes not made correctly. Menu seemed to have the same standard frozen food found at most comedy clubs despite the restaurant upstairs.Overall this place is really hard to recommend when there are so many other comedy clubs in NYC that are better by juat aboummmket every measure.
Went there last night, good food, good show, stage looks like a grade school project and waiter refused to give us water until show started but we got it and had a great time.
Very nice place for Stand-Up! Worth a visit.
Some Great Shows n Funny, Good Atmosphere, n Fantastic Food.
Love this place! Hilarious Comedians like Greer Barnes, Russ Meneve and Sherrod Small. Food by Playa Bettys, amazing.
Its inside a taco spot. Noice
Amazing lineup on a Sunday night. Looking forward to returning.
Great venue bad show one was funny, one was sort of funny one was not funny and two were embarrassingly bad, even for a Sunday night or any night ending in Y. My first time there but yikes
Great food, nice atmosphere, dope night.
Awesome line up for stand up, definitely worth the trip!
It was AMAZING I had a blast
