Ive been here for a few of vents and whenever I go I have a good time. Its actually a pretty big place and has been around for a while. I think its become a staple of the Second Avenue art gallery and venue crawl. 2nd Avenue is definitely the best place to do a bar crawl. I think it has the most bars close together besides Bay Ridge.

Cool gallery with your typical aloof and uninterested front desk art gallery girl, spacious but quick to get through and not as packed as other galleries in the city.

Was in town on business and came across your gallery by chance and was delighted by the atmosphere your gallery imbues to the artist that you are highlighting. I especially liked bright openness in which you display the pieces of art, you really can size up each piece to see if would work in your own space.

The thing about galleries is that they dont really pay attention to small time complaints about copyrights and tracing accusations from other artists until it becomes a big full blown scale of attention and bad media. Kinda wish theyd be more diligent in checking whos selling at their galleries and more considerate or artists asking after their traced works, but what can you do? The artists they showcase are the people that represents them, after all.

This is definitely a fun place to drop by, though I cant praise it much further than that. The art is too frequently based on celebrity or hipness rather than talent, and the gallery has a habit of publicizing their openings and then refusing admittance at the door. If youre into the New York art scene, maybe give it a visit. If youre into art, youll want to think twice.

The Hole is a great little spot in the East Village. I love checking in as often as possible as their shows change regularly. Some favorites in the past few years have been Vanessa Prager, the joyfully off-the-wall Jaimie Warren, mind blowing Holton Rower, and their current (and simply stunning/creative/all of the feelings) Adam Parker Smith. I appreciate art but am by no means well versed. I find their staff to be incredibly informative, helpful, and art lovers themselves. Its nice to interact with people who believe in what they do and are attempting, in their own way, to make the world a more beautiful and creative place. And have you seen the gallery dog!? Who is cuter than Bert!?

This gallery doesnt appear to do their due diligence in checking that the works featured and sold there arent copies taken from real artists. Doing a simple google search of the person in question submitting their art would reveal a history of bad practice and overall low quality tracing, but even that seems to be too much work for The Hole to do.

A gallery should take due diligence to make sure they arent hosting artists who violate copyright and steal other artists work to profit from without credit. This gallery hasnt done that and instead finds ways to talk around the issue, even when confronted by those whose art has been stolen.

There was only 1 bathroom which was down a labyrinth of stairs and turns. The venue reeked of fresh paint and the temperature was undesirable. Look more like 30 Bushwick Warehouse or gallery in someones apartment. Im baffled they can stay open in that location with such pedestrian Aesthetics

Currently one of the hippest galleries in NYC. They have some terrific pieces running from traditional sculpture to electronic and contemporary conceptual pieces, though occasionally it seems like the hipness of an artist outweighs their talent. Sign up online to be notified of openings.
