Singular in so many ways to feel the authenticity of the art and its creativity. So glad that I get to study there and witness the birth of such amazing talents to be displayed.

Great art gallery inside of Pratts Manhattan campus.
If youre a fan of maps, New York, and/or unusual visual expressions of collected data, RUN, dont walk, to this hidden gem of a gallery on W.14th St. The exhibit closes on November 15th, and is not to be missed! Ive posted some photos I took onsite, but they are but a pale comparison to the real thing. The idea behind this exhibit, You Are Here NYC: Art, Information, and Mapping, is to take dry-as-dust statistics and turn them into visual representation---and the artists do a bang-up job. For example: How about taking the bacterial counts collected on all subway lines and transform them into a rainbow-hued overlay on an NYC map? You can sit at their computer and type in streptococcus, for example, and the computer map lights up with all the locations in which this bacteria was found---in a lovely hue indicating its prevalence in an area. Another computer does the same for NYCs street trees--select a tree name, and the map lights up in thousands of colored dots indicating where that tree is found--right down to borough and block! Other fascinating items: two maps, both tracking Tweets originating in the five boroughs during a certain time period, one labeled, Hate, and one, Love; a visual and auditory representation of the classic NYC subway map; a computer graphic illustration of the layout of all NYC streets (hint: it looks more like a hairy ink drawing!); and everyday city sounds fossilized into a wood sculpture. And theres more....be prepared to be mesmerized!
Students have amazing art, its very inspiring to look at.
