Amazing bar. I spent a whole night here in 13 while waiting for a text from my roommate to say our room was available again. The text never came, but the bar staff and bouncer were lovely so I stuck around for a bit.I left as the sun was coming up through the streets of New Orleans.Great dive bar vibe, awesome music & lovely staff.
Great metal bar! Drink selection is somewhat limited, but the music selection is great for fans of metal. Wicked cool gothic decor.
Weve run into a lot of rock stars over the years in the dungeon Eddie Vedder Zakk Wylde Ozzy Osbourne and many more. Got the party with Luke Perry from 90210 in there. RIP I know thats kind of funny but he was a rockstar if you knew him. So put it on your bucket list you have to go to the Dungeon at least once in your life.
Oh wow I love it here! The energy is great and there was a lovely bartender that was the sweetest. It’s like a vampires lair, dark and red, cages, and skulls everywhere. Definitely a place to check out. Never seen anything else like it.
We go to Nola a few times a year. The Dungeon is by far our favorite bar in the Quarter. If you like hard rock and a goth type atmosphere definitely check it out. They serve a house drink there called The Keys To TheChastity Belt. Get one, you will not be disappointed.
Are you guys open inside yet? What are your new hours? Coming in this weekend
Best goth bar in the city. Music is always good, drinks are good, atmosphere is good. Its just a small space. If you like places like this, then stop searching for a new bar and come find this one.
My favorite spot in New Orleans, met my beautiful girlfriend there, and will be returning for our 1 year anniversary on Tuesday!
This place is, by far, the absolute COOLEST bar in the Quarter. They play awesome music, have great drinks (they dont skimp on the booze), and neat decor. This is my go to place everytime we are in New Orleans. Really a great place. Highly recommend!!
I went to the dungeon on a week night a month ago after a concert at House of Blues with some friends. I had a good time. Last time I was there, it was a Tuesday, and I had a good time. So, I went to dungeon on a Wednesday night this week and was turned away at almost midnight by a bouncer who told me the bar was closing soon. It was not even midnight, and I was turned away. According to Google, the bar is open on Wednesday until 3am. I saw people inside the bar. It looked busy. I understand that if the bar is about to close, you dont want people inside. But it wasnt even midnight yet. And it says its open until 3am. If this is a mistake and the bar does close at midnight, thats fine. If not, that is discrimination. I am 24, and I understand that I look younger than I am, but the bouncer didnt even check my ID.
Of all the New Orleans bars, this is the New Orleansiest! An incredibly unique experience!
COVID. Only open for take out. This is another must do bar when in NOLA.
The only bar Ive ever been to where I dont feel the need to make a hostile takeover of the jukebox. Service is fast and friendly, and easy on the eyes. Great selection of beers and liquors. The hot sauce the owner makes is definitely worth a try too. My favorite bar in NOLA, maybe in the world, at least so far. A must for every NOLA trip, and if I lived here, I wouldnt go anywhere else.
Amazing place with an amazing atmosphere. Staff was excellent, from the doorman to the bartenders. NOBODY was the best bartender Ive had in a long time. He knows his stuff and should be given the opportunity to keep proving he is capable of becoming a top class bartender. Overall, this has become my favorite bar in town and will be a necessity every NOLA trip taken.
Great spot lovely rock music
Cool place. Came here looking for good stories from our haunted your. Alas no luck but still fun.
The Dungeon might be my favorite bar in New Orleans. One of the coolest vibes around, great music, a sweet specialty cocktail/frozen daiquiri (The Key to the Chastity Belt), great servers, not insanely crowded, close to Bourbon Street. When I think of trips to New Orleans, I think of The Dungeon.A must visit if you like metal music, great atmosphere, and good drinks.
I tried to save the best for last! Music was rock’n had the best seat in the house bartenders were amazing. The door guy completely ruined everything. Never going back there’s other places that play rock music.
Very cute spot, decor is awesome. Music is different on each level which is neat but doesnt have any flow. Was drawn in by Pink Floyd, ordered a drink, and was assaulted by *gasp* Seether.
If you like rock n roll or metal and you like drinking alcohol this is the bar for you. My friend bought a jar of everclear and hot sauce soaked cherries and we are them all and it was good. The drink selection is as eclectic as the music. The decor also matches. There are cages and dragons heads and naked maniquins. Its a good time.
Definitely stop in if you like a less touristy vibe. This place had good music (if you like rock) and good drinks (they have beer but ask about the specialty cocktails). The bartender was super nice and had our drinks ready quickly.
This was easily my favorite bar in New Orleans. The atmosphere is unique and the music is great if youre a rock fan. The other patrons are super friendly and easy to talk to. I wish I knew her name, but I love the bartender upstairs in the room with the giant cage. She is a total rock star.
Sure the music on the juke box is good. But the drinks are pricey and the bartender, I wanna say her name was Jaime was not pleasant. I rarely say anything bad on reviews, so for me to leave a 1 star.. yea it was bad. The bartender was serious just rude and it wasnt like it was busy. I wouldnt recommend going and I wont return.
Fun place. Totally for tourists. Good music and prices arent too bad. Staff is friendly. Downstairs bar is for a lighter crowd. Better music is upstairs.
Off the beaten path! Almost missed it. So glad we went in. Staff was very very nice and the bar had an awesome and unique atmosphere. Will 100% return.
Randomly came across this place last night with my buddy and we had a blast. Spent like 3 hours there. Super friendly staff great drinks and fair priced unlike alot of the other places in NOLA that rip tourists off with 13 dollar drinks. Also bought a shirt and some of their Hot Sauce. Will 100% be back next time Im in town
Cool vibe... love the decor.... great bar service... great drinks! We were pleased to enjoy a shot of fine tequila with the owner.
Very dark and demonic pub, there is some near decor that is interactive. No flash photography but its still a lot of fun. A must see when your on bourbon street.
IF ONLY THIS PLACE EXISTED IN MY HOME TOWN!! If you consider yourself a lover of out of the ordinary things then this is your place! Oh, and if you arent gonna dance, stay out of the cage! ;)
Awesome place... best time ever...Best music... great vibes... excellent service...Highly recommended...
Truly one of the most interesting bars Ive ever been to
I live here and visited for the first time last night. Staff were great both upstairs and down. I really enjoyed my visit and felt happy here. Im giving it 5 stars despite the wine selection. Good thing I have a sense of humor.
If you like more rock music thats the place to go hidden gem (literally, entrance is in a small alley) really cool place
If you want a spooky good time, heres the place to do it. Good drinks and ambiance. Its the most unique bar we went to in NoLa so far
Went to the dungeon on a haunted bar crawl with my wife and another couple. All of us in our early fifties. We liked the music and atmosphere so we decided to go back the next evening. We thought there were two levels to the club from what we had read on their reviews. We tried to go upstairs to the second level and the bouncer came out and told us to leave. I tried multiple times to explain that we didn’t know the upper level was closed. He wouldn’t hear that it was an honest mistake and continued to insist that we leave. He sprayed my wife with a water hose! I can’t believe any club owner would want their employees treating patrons like this! I would be totally embarrassed if this person was an employee of mine. Definitely won’t be going back!
Excellent atmosphere. Great drinks. Well priced. Will absolutely go here any time!
Great drinks. Great bartenders. Great music. The best decor in NOLA. Its so METAL.
Small hidden bar, great atmosphere and design!
Really crowded and bartenders arent the friendliest. The drinks were good and it was a really interesting spot to hang out in for a bit.
Drinks are so good here. I recommend everyone to stop by this spot, its unique, the music is that gothic rock, mellow gothic music, but who cares. For the moment you become whatever you want in this place. Surprisingly as well, very friendly staff from the bouncers to the bartenders. Just a really cool place to unwind a bit.
Discovered this place in 1977. You had to climb a ladder across from the bar to get upstairs in those days. They opened at midnight back then. Ive been in bars all over the world and this is one of the best. Killer music too. Keep it real. Regards, Alymar
My wife and I chose to go to NOLA for our honeymoon and being the metal heads we are couldnt pass up this place. This is one cool bar the people and staff were awesome, the drinks where fast and on point and the music perfect. For a metal bar this place did not disappoint. We will be going back on our next trip out for sure.
Definitely on my list to come back to and unlock some more with the key!
Very cool place, fun atmosphere!
This is one of the most hidden BUT coolest bars in the French Quarter! We only found it because of a great haunted tour! The entrance is pictures below and looks like a sketchy alley (which it pretty much is) but swallow your fears and you will be rewarded! I would have provided pictures of the inside, but there are no pictures, once you get through the small courtyard. We had two dungeon classics, the witches brew and the key, to the Chastity belt! Both were great! This bar is very small inside but also has two floors!
Went there for the first time years ago (and every trip since) and received a Dungeon Pin that glows in the dark. Do you still have them? Im sending a friend on his visit there in a couple of weeks.
We have visited Nola many times and walked past this place but never knew exactly what it was. We finally went in on our last trip. Its a funky little place. Pretty cool decor, even better music. If you are looking to get away from all the dance music that is played on Bourbon this is your spot. Rock, heavy metal, gothic and industrial.
Absolute favorite bar in New Orleans. This place has a special kind of atmosphere that I can appreciate. Give it a try.
We loved it here!!! Awesome music, great drink prices and general atmosphere was just what we were looking for. Wish we had a Dungeon bar back home so we could go every weekend!
This is a one-of-a-kind nightlife experience. The venue and the employees are eclectic, edgy, and unapologetic. The music is a never ending tribute to the metal and punk days of decades past-think Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, System of a Down-the good stuff! The ambiance is on point with the establishment’s name, which some people tend to interpret as a tribute to “50 Shades of Grey”-and to each their own, but I believe this bar is the most authentic and exciting place in all of New Orleans. The servers are so much fun to interact with, and there is zero judgement from anyone there. I highly recommend stepping out of the proverbial “box” and embracing this awesome venue.
Place was cool as he(double hockey sticks), dont mind the pun!! Jeremy was the shiz I got him to rid the cat. Def a must visit hole in the wall( literally).
Cool bar, good music!
Good, if strange, variety of music, where you might hear Black Sabbath and then Bjork directly after; good drinks, and sociable bartenders (tip your servers!)Very metal/goth interior themes, only thing like it in the French Quarter. We go here every time were in NOLA.
Love the Halloween atmosphere, the lighting and the music (rock, hair metal, industrial). Bartender was super personable. Try “the Key,” their signature frozen cocktail...yum!
Blonde bartender was polite and flowed around the bar cool atmosphere people are polite even when its packed (small space but theres upstairs with 2 bars as well and if you hunker down in a corner it feels like theres more space than there is)2 tullamore dews neat came to 14 bucks I believe not bad
Really cool place. Fun staff. The house drinks were great.
Awesome late night hangout spot! They have a downstairs and upstairs as well on the weekend. If you are looking for something different, this is it! Dont let the shady alleyway scare you. Totally awesome spot!
Fun bar, good music
Drinks were good, bar service was great. Almost as good as La Cantina!
Awesome night club with Dungeness music and good cheap drinks in the quarter
Amazing and favorite place so far. Just wish the Patron was chilled
Think I pocket reviewed and didnt give enough stars. Place is a blast and the name really does lend to the atmosphere.
Whatever you do. Whatever you do, don’t take pictures inside. I came here a few times over the week leading up to Mardi Gras. There’s a carpenter that works the door. He told me the bar is the only structure on the block to have survived a fire took down a lot of buildings sometime in the 1800’s.He told me to check out the leaning buildings at the end of the block, so that’s what I will suggest to you. I’m not going to suggest any specific booze, but buy local! So anyway if you leave the dungeon make a right and at the end of the block on the left you will see two buildings so far out of plumb you’d think you were walking down Diagon Alley.
Chic & cool. Be prepared for pricey spirits.
4 stars for an awesome atmosphere and the perfect volume to enjoy the music yet still be able to communicate to one another without licking an ear-lobe or losing your voice by midnight! The drinks were made correctly and tasteful yet the bartender (female on the lower level Thursday night) wasn’t too engaging, and seemed almost impatient. It wasn’t too busy at the time we were there so I’m not sure why she would not want to promote a friendlier attitude to keep us wanting more?Overall, can’t beat the feel of this unique watering hole and I’ll definitely be back to give it another shot.***The music selection was just the thing an 80’s/90’s baby could want and had a good variety!
Awesome decor and great selection of beers and spirits. Very friendly staff but no pictures or video allowed inside.
A must stop place when in New Orleans good drinks and a fun place to party in with friends
Very cool niche spot. Awesome atmosphere and a lot to see. Drinks were not a bad price either.
Best Rock Tavern EVER! Love their jukebox and bartenders/doorman are sweet! Drinks hit the spot and love the no pictures rule!
Good atmosphere a little small for me but not a bad spot
Highly recommended if you value your life very little. It’s an experience.
Great selection of drinks for great prices. Loved the atmosphere and the decor. Bartenders were wonderful. Our favorite bar in New Orleans
OMG, we used to hang out here in the early 70s. Still remember Angie by the Rolling Stones playing on the juke box while sipping free champagne on Ladies night. I think on Thursdays. What a awesome flash back!Thank you so much for the memories ️.
Fun bar
Dark, goth-y atmosphere, tucked away between buildings so be on the watch for it. You go down a narrow, ominously red lit walk way before reaching the bar, and once inside, the vibes are friendly and welcoming despite the gloomy atmosphere of the place. Great drinks, friendly bartender (Thanks Alex for recommendations!), and for Marilyn Manson fans, they carry his absinthe drink, Mansinthe. Great place for all the vampires to come and hang out at, great music selections, great libations, all around a great time.
We went in and out of different souvenir shops all evening looking for the perfect gifts for loved ones back home! And the street performers were at it again! I think it a daily grind!
Probably one of the most unique bars Ive ever been to. If you love heavy metal and the rock lifestyle thisnis your place in the Quarter.
I enjoyed the easy chill of this bar. Did get yelled at for falling asleep, definitely would return again!
Very fun and interesting bar. The bartenders were amazing and the atmosphere was unique. The bathrooms couldve been cleaner and better maintained, but overall I would come back again. No picture posted because you are not allowed to take pictures inside the bar.
In the heart of the French Quarter, a tiny sign leading down a dimly lit alley opened out on a Gothic courtyard. A man at a door to the side warns against any photography as you enter a very small galley style bar playing harsh grunge metal from a digital jukebox. A few pictures of risque S and M art and all the plastic mannequin decor you could wish for and then... nothing. Decent drinks but no follow through on the entertainment. The kids running the place seemed so pleased with their clever theme but mostly just childish. Nice try and I hope they get better but as of now? I advise to grab a drink and enjoy the courtyard. The music is... pathetically bad.
Cool rock n roll vibeOrder the dragons blood.
Read the reviews, was so excited to go visit, had really high hopes... But.... Really wasnt a bar, just a hallway with a few bar stools and weak drinks... Did have a few manikins dressed up and a few skulls for decor, they had a no pic policy.. Didnt really want to take any anyways, so dont waste your time trust me! Staff was ok, decent jukebox... But there are definitely other places to check out!
Great Hole in the wall bar. A must when in NOLA
Cool little place thats different from your every day bar scene.
Unique atmosphere. Girlfriend really liked the vibrating barstools at the left side of front bar.
