Intimate setting but great sound. Place was sold out but the bartenders were fast and efficient. Even though all I drank was water and soda I was still waited on quickly and they all had great attitudes. Didnt really notice much of the staff which obviously means they were doing their jobs and out of sight. love this venue
The theater is really fun. Lighting was good and sound average. I love being able to go upstairs and enjoying the show from the balconies. Bar is beautiful, bathrooms clean. I would suggest making a smoking area that isnt the exit. As someone allergic to smoke, it was a horrible end to a great show having to run down a tunnel of 70 smokers.
The space was nice inside. The acoustics were great as well. I do have a problem with how they do things. Put every show on your calendar. Every show needs to use the box office. If its happening at the Civic its a Civic show. I get people rent space, but the caliber of the people renting the space is too notch for the most part. If you put ALL shows on your calendar it helps the leasee and it helps the Civic show its ability to host a variety of events.
One of like two places to see national indie acts in Nola. Drink prices are slightly high, but reasonable. Standing area is varied. You can feel the floor bounce underneath you, which is fun and scary. Pro-tip: if the down stairs bar is packed, go upstairs, theyre usually pretty chill.
Small venue but perfect for those who dont want the large crowds. Floor, gallery and balcony seating, bars on all 3 floors. Bathrooms on 1st and 3rd.
I’m incredibly conflicted on my review. While the show was amazing and I had a good time, I likely won’t attend another show at the Civic Theatre. We missed highly suspect when they came through Destin, so we decided to drive over to NOLA and spend a few days. We frequently travel between 3-6 hours for shows across FL, MS, AL, GA and have attended larger venues like the smoothie king and coliseum and weekend rock festivals with thousands of people. Until this show, I’ve never come across a venue I’ve said I’ll never return to.While some of the issues are things outside managements control, I’ll break down why it was a bad experience.Security- clearly this wasn’t a professional security firm. It was like they grabbed 4 people off the street and gave them jackets that said “Security” The lady in charge of the line was handing out alcohol bands like they were candy. She never once checked an ID. She just asked if people were drinking and gave them a band. The group in front of us barely looked out of high school and every one of them received a band. This one shows my age because I drank underage. These days, I just see the issues with a venue who doesn’t even check for ID.Overcrowded- there’s nothing better than a rock concert when you’re shoulder to shoulder. But this was a whole new level. You couldn’t even lift your arms without elbowing someone in the face...which started numerous fights that took away from the show itself. Security inside the venue was non-existent, except 2 guys on the front row between the band and the crowd. The stairs were packed with people who wanted a better view and constantly got into arguments when people tried to get by. You were trapped on the floor. We couldn’t leave to get a drink at all and watched the show stone cold sober. Was a good show but I’d like to be able to go to the bathroom or get a drink if needed. I think part of the issue is that it wasn’t enforced who had floor tickets and who had balcony tickets so everyone ended up on the floor. I’ve never really paid attention to how well other venues are run until I ended up with one that has no crowd management. This makes me appreciate my local venues quite a bit more!Beer Selection- not very good. While there were several local IPAs, the only light beer offered was bud light.Lastly, the Crowd. As previously stated, we have traveled all over for concerts and I’ve never encountered a more obnoxious crowd than I did at the Civic. This is obviously outside management control but I do feel if there would have been more security present (who were real concert security and not just wearing the shirt without a clue of what to do) the crowd wouldn’t have been so crazy. Fights popped up constantly. One girl put hands on a guy because he touched her arm trying to get past us. They fought the entire show. Her boy friendly consistently bowed up to him. There was another couple who argued with eachother the entire show. She hit him repeatedly. Another girl in front of us live-streamed herself at the concert...not the concert, but herself dancing with the camera flash on the entire time with the flash facing the people behind her. A group in the side balcony was pouring beer on the people below them on the floor. This was just in my immediate area. I’m sure there were issues elsewhere. It wasn’t a good experience at all. We love rock concerts and attend several monthly, but I don’t see us returning to the Civic Theatre anytime soon. Maybe it was an off night, but this is the experience we had.Highly Suspect put on a great show and I’d love to catch them at another venue where I can enjoy the music more
One of my favorite New Orleans venues. The staff was super helpful preparing for my friends wedding, and Big Easy Events did a spectacular job loading in and setting up all the tables, chairs, and linens exactly as we wanted!
I experienced this venue for the first and only time on New Years Eve. I attended DJ Soul Sisters 17th Annual New Years Eve Soul Train event. It was a good crowd of people and the venue was roomy enough to accommodate the crowd comfortably. I had purchased my ticket in advance online but received information from the the personnel at the ticket window who were friendly and informative. The ladies who scanned the tickets at the entrance were also personable as we held a brief conversation. Inside the music had a good volume and I enjoyed the 2nd level stages where the DJ worked as well as the other side where there were dancers which were easily seen from the first level where I was. I mixed and mingled without incident especially for such a celebratory night. There was still standing room, however I did not see the 2nd level to know what took place up there. All in all I enjoyed the venue.
This is a beautiful old theater that was closed down for many years. It has been beautifully renovated. It’s not a super big theater so it’s a great place to see your favorite band or performer. This is very centrally located. It is close to the French Quarter in Canal Street.Check out Seaworthy around the corner For seafood and cocktails.
Nice theater, but they do not look at tickets. People from the nosebleeds are able to go to the floor and it was so crowded you couldnt leave the floor to grab another beer.
The sound in this venue is amazing! It was the best show we saw in NOLA
If I could give the Civic Theater 10 Stars it deserves it if youre hosting a party or event this is the place to go food drinks live band if you need one great place
Cool venue, laid back vibe. Great place to see a show.
Nice hidden gem. Smaller auditorium with intimate setting and decent acoustics. Staff professional and welcoming. Adequate parking available within blocks of the theatre. A number of restuarant choices for after the show dining within walking distance. Clean restrooms.Cons: Room temperature in the balcony area was hot. Several individuals commented. The seats were very cramped with little to no wiggle room. Experienced leg pains (never before) during the performance. I had to stand in aisle for temporary relief.
Beautiful venue!!! The acoustics are great and the staff are amazing! This place is tucked away. Youd pass right by it and not know it was there. Im glad I learned about it! Will love using for future events!
Not a bad seat in the house!
I absolutely love this venue. The sound is great and you dont get ripped off at the bar. They have lots of good shows and plenty of other acts as well. I always try to watch shows at this venue.
More intimate, relaxed atmosphere than larger arenas, though I agree with the other reviewer that the drink options are minimal. Parking is a nightmare in that area, so take a car service.
Sean Lennon and Les Claypool. Great show and nice venue.
Nice venue. Used for a movie
What a wonderful surprise inside this venue. Nice touch with the original look of the place inside. But did not care for 2nd floor location of wedding cake.
Great place to see live music. GA floor allows close access to band. Bartenders/lines slow. 2 am curfew.
Great venue. Comfortable seating and cash bar,. Good views from all seats, not overly large. Convenient parking just across the street. Good acoustics.
My sons wedding was there in New Orleans and the place was beautiful . If you love the grand old theaters, thats the place to have a wedding. It was exquisite!!!
New Years Eve was a great event.
Great spot for music events.
Very nice atmosphere. We went for a free comedy show and really enjoyed it. I definitely recommend.
Very nice venue for a performance. Have seen two different performances there and the acoustics and seatings were phenomenal. Honestly, no bad seat in the house. Look forward to next performance there.
Went to see Nighy Vale show. Never disappointed with their shows here. Great time for the family.
Great venue! Went to a wedding. The space is very versatile and has some cool, funky ambiance.
Nice venue with a good space for music. Didnt spend too long there as we werent feeling the event but would happily return.
Small venue, excellent place to see a concert. Comfortable seats great sound. Bar on every floor.
Great place to have event.
We filmed an upcoming TV pilot here and the architecture was absolutely gorgeous its just added to the ambience
Beautiful space, but they could do a better job with funneling concert-goers out of the building when the show concludes. 90% of our crowd tried to exit through the main entrance because the other exits werent obvious. It wasnt exactly a fire safe situation.
Great place to see a show. The seats are a little small.
I loved this venue.
We saw George Ezra at this venue and it was perfect. It was the right size for this concert. It has a very personal, close feel. There is the pit plus the balcony levels. We got an seat in the front row of the 2nd balcony level and had a great view. There were bars at each level that moved quickly and did not build up a line. I would highly recommend going to concerts at this location.
Great venue for the concert. Seating laid out well. Did not have to stretch around someone in front of me. Bathroom and bar facilities were nice.
Saw a burlesque show. It was awsome. Nice venue. Only complaint was the air conditioning was set a bit too cool.
Drove from three hours away and booked a hotel to see a favorite artist here. The sound was so bad that lyrics were unintelligible. We tried sitting in various parts of the theater and standing on the floor, but there was nowhere in the whole place where we could actually hear/understand the singers. Highly disappointed, as Id heard good things about the venue.
This place is a Gem in the Downtown District Safest Secure Parking in the Big Easy. Felt very comfortable. Staff is amazing and kind and helpful.
Beautiful venue, not huge so crowd was manageable. The acoustics were terrible though. Not sure if that was the venue or the sound techs fault.
Awesome place to see any musical act.. wish everyone should play here
Beautiful inside. Comfortable seating. Not too big and not too small.
DJ Sole Sista 2019 New Year bash was great!
First time there over Jazz Fest and the floor was like a trampoline....no idea what they put down ... Hope its not like that for every show.
Great renovated space with a good diversity of shows. If youre sitting up high in the balcony bring a sweater the A/C works really well.
Beautiful! Great place for a wedding.
They did a terrible job on New Years Eve. Bought VIP tickets with open bar and had to wait 30 minutes in line for a drink. Bartender wouldnt give me more than a single. Half my group left the party as a result. Really made the night a lot less fun.Pretty pathetic that they cant do an open bar properly. Wont be returning and wont recommend it to others.Ive been to a party there before that wasnt as bad, but God damn was this annoying.
A good venue, saw The Breeders. Parking was easy.
Great venue. Not a bad seat in the house.
Surprisingly excellent venue in downtown NOLA
Beautiful theatre with great seating, bar was a nice surprise.
Beautiful venue!
Amazing concert place and very clean
BEAUTIFUL!Drinks are expensive ($8 for a small mixed drink) so pre-game!The theatre is amazing and everyone is so friendly.
Great little venue. View from loge is perfect.
Nice place for a show. Very pretty, good cocktails.
Very fun place to see a show. View from the balconies is great and the music sounded fantastic
I really *want* to give this place more stars. The space itself is nice, and the staff were all friendly, but I cant help but think this is a disaster waiting to happen. Leaving the venue after a show is complete gridlock for a very long time, and it doesnt feel safe if there was ever an emergency.
Several bars make it easy to get a drink during a show. The multiple balconies also provide multiple view points to watch your favorite artist perform
Awesome venue, great acoustics. I cant wait to go back and see another concert here.
Working on a movie in here was comfortable.
Great space!
The sound is great here. I like the open seating.
Fantastic theatre. Saw Fitz and the Tantrums here; has fantastic lighting and acoustics. Has both an open floor and balcony seating with a bar outside the hall.
Good venue, the seating is nice and they have good bar setups.
Three!!! security check points, including putting your phone in a sealed bag so you cant use it, all while we are standing in the rain 45min past opening time.Drinks watered down and $15
Great live music concert hall
The venue was nice and close to hotels, restaurants etc.BUT, we drove over 700 miles to see a special performance only to be constantly disturbed by a local belligerent drunk. The staff allowed this to go on all night. One person...
Very intimate for concerts and beautiful interior.
Great venue!
Small but nice venue. Bathrooms are fantastic.
Saw Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds, May 2015. Fantastic venue. Great acoustics.
Nice, fresh space. Acoustics are awesome.
A little too off the top for us, but to each their own.
Nice place, but the drink options are a bit limited. The seating is also kinda tight.
Saw Primus here twice and both times were great.
I love this venue. The seats are good, sound is great, and the space is beautiful.
While Ive only been here HIGH AS A KITE during Mardi Gras, its amazing!
Amazingly intimate venue. A real treat.
Good venue
Cool music venue in a remodeled theatre. Bathrooms are big, clean, and well lit. Good bar service
Beautiful backstage and in front been on both sides. Amazing experience!
Excellent place to watch a band, one of my favorite Venues in the city
Attended a wedding here. Wonderful venue.
