We went to Boo at the Zoo and they did a great job helping everyone stay distant and safe. Everyone was wearing a mask and doing their best to keep 6 ft apart. I love that the park was 1 way. We went earlier in the morning so it wasnt as crowded as afternoon/evening. The animals were up and eating. One thing that could change was the food counter. The order station and pick up station was at the same window. People were huddled around it trying to order and pay while also getting their food. Wish there was a pick up station that one of the employees could set up a table and run the food to that table and call the name on the pick up slip. Other than that it was a great alternative to trick or treating.
My family and I had the most amazing day! It was absolutely perfect! Weather was great! Zoo was amazing and beautiful! Very clean! Beautiful, exotic and wide variety on animals! Lots of parking! Handicap accessible! Great prices! Awesome gift shop! And can bring a backpack with your own drinks, snacks and what not! What more can I say?? We had a blast! Cant wait to go back again!
This park has plenty of space to walk, open fields, playgrounds and game courts for kids, multiple parking areas, and (when not in an epidemic) regular activities such as fairs going on. Not to mention the zoo of course. Cant complain!
Enjoyed walking around. We had a perfect weather day. Stopped for a little lunch and rest.
Nice little local zoo with knowledgeable and friendly staff. They have implemented new rules for covid which does not really take away from the experience.
Wish it was a warmer day took grand daughter there.
I absolutely love this Park! Theres the Zoo which isnt expensive at all but if youre not looking to spend money theres also a great playground the kids will love. Theres free parking, basketball courts, lots of picnic tables, a pond with a lot of geese and ducks. The entire Park is pretty big so its a great place to go for a walk. Either by yourself, with friends or your dog. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive way to have fun with the kids or looking to have a great time without spending any money.
Nice zoo. Small but awarded the best of small zoos in US and one of the oldest dated from 1800s.Never the less with over 200 animals. Great for kids education. Put down the iPad and spend some time here.
Love ️️ absolutely love this place
Great place to play some basketball. Take the family and the kids out. Very well maintained. This place does not even feel like its in the middle of New Bedford. Awesome spot to relax for the day.
Kid friendly and I was thrilled about it
Buttonwood park has a nice zoo, with plenty of animals for about 2 hours of fun. This zoo is not high end, and big, but its a great zoo for the price you pay, not even including deals with groupon. The park and playground outside, is a great place to chill while the kids burn off there energy. Its also great for walks, runs, bike rides, etc. Its overall a nice park, for being right in the middle of a city.
I love this park since 2012
Been going here since I was a kid, Bring your kids to Zoo my dad did when we were little and the memories u just cant buy them
Scenic beautiful park with plenty space to do whatever.
Nice place to walk around
I havent been there for a very long time and my girlfriend and I brought one of are grandchildren around Halloween and it was so cool and so much fun
This park have duck paddle boat run season have a fee $5 for child $10 for adult fix 3 people for boat comfortable have some real duck around cant feed them its a fine $50 if U do. Free parking. Playground swings and slides. Benches sport field. Great to have a lil duck ride and a typical day out with the kids. Enjoy! The ride quack quack!
Such a serene place on the edge of a busy city, its like its own little world. We love to chill by the water or swing on the swings. The zoo is beautiful and they are making a lot of improvements. The train ride is fun for all ages and my kids enjoyed the new play area they just finished.Willettes Optical Paradise Approved
Great place to visit. My grandchildren love it there. They could spend all day. The staff are friendly and the zoo is well kept up
I loved going as a small child and my children love going. Very fun and clean. Hard to believe youre in New Bedford when youre at the zoo
Beautiful, spacious, serene ️
All the indoor exhibits are closed. And are partitioned away from all the exhibits
Beautiful little piece of New Bedford! Great walkways, clean and beautiful park! The zoo is extraordinary too!
ButtonWood... great place for families, I mean who couldnt love historic Buttonwood? ... Always kept tidy & clean. Zoo is also pretty well rounded !
Great place for family, friends to get together. Ball parks, playground, bridges over Lily ponds, picnic areas, Swan boats, One of the top 5 Small Zoos in the Nation with elephants, pumas, seals, monkeys, a sloth, indigenous animals, plants, flora, fishRIver otters, bobcats, a farm with horses, goats, cows, chickens. Pony rides for the kiddos. Plus, many different festivals every year and things like yoga and stuff going on. Buttonwood Park is just lots of fun. :-)
Nice zoo nice people
An awesome playground, basketball courts, plenty of open fields, baseball fields, football fields, festivals in July. Also a little pond where you can go on peddle boats.
Great time with the kids..swings, slides, basketball and more... school vacation week but overly crowded, lots of space for playing ball ...only drawback too much duck poop on the ground
Fun experience. Train ride was excellent. Nice Day to be there.
It is a well maintained park. It is wheelchair accessible. It has areas for picnics including grills. There are events and activities offered for different populations. It has a great zoo.Should be noted that rates are very affordable and differ if you live in the area, cheaper for residents. If a caretaker accompanies someone in a wheelchair, admission is free for the caretaker. The zoo has a food court, too. It is a simple menu with popular items like burgers, fries, onion rings, nachos... The eating area is very clean.
Great park and zoo.
Great little zoo great little playground. My favorite place to walk
Went for an event and the Zoo was actually closed to public but we were able to walk around some and see the animals. Very nice small place.
Perfect plact for ya little ones. Day i went every animal was out and awake and the workers was all polite me and my wife had a BLAST!!!!! Five star for button wood zoo
Good for visit
Great place to unwind or go for a run.
Smaller local zoo but very nice to visit. Staff is very friendly and loves their animals. We learned a lot about how the animals got there (lots of rescues) and how the staff enriches the animals lives with daily training and exercises.
I am a dog walker for the lighthouse animal shelter they love the park feeling.
Fun little zoo to take your family to. Every year they have something new. I
Great little zoo. Kept up amazing.
You need to go online and set up an appointment
Very enjoyable, especially Emily and her staff. Extremely nice guys.
Small zoo perfect for toddlers. New outdoor nature place is a big hit! They are doing wonders to this zoo all the time.
Ive been going to this park all my life. Its wonderful and has lots of nature around it; altogether very beautiful. However, I personally do have a few complaints. The park itself– namely the playground, has some equipment that could be updated and / or repaired. It would be nice to make sure everything is working properly. It could be far worse, definitely, but theres always room for improvement. Furthermore, the pond at the park; Im unsure if this counts as part of the park itself, but the wildlife there is extremely unhealthy. The water has a stench to it thats akin to decay and bacteria. The swan boats there have been causing significant damage to the animals and fish, though, they are quite fun to ride. I personally think that they (the city officials) should focus on cleaning up the pond and fixing the smell it emits along with helping the wildlife. I was there earlier today and a group of motherless ducklings had walked up to my family and I and they appeared borderline emaciated; meanwhile, a goose came over and was missing a foot. Her leg was still intact, but the foot was gone completely and the flesh around it was swollen and appeared infected. These issues should be addressed for everyones sake. Though theyre smaller problems and are easy to over look, they still matter beneath the surface.
Its ok for a school field trip. If I were paying for my husband and kids to go I would want more animals that are more exotic.
Theres plenty of picnic tables and shaded areas for you to sit and relax, have a bite to eat or work. The tables are close to the playground so, if youre with children it would be easy for them to keep themselves entertained. If you decide to visit the zoo the entrance is close by and its not that expensive, there is a library close by where you could get free passes to visit the zoo. If youre looking to burn up time or just hang out with the grand/children Buttonwood Park and Zoo is a great place to visit.
Admission reasonable. Nice way they show the animals. Had fun in the train
Perfect little zoo for young children. You can spend about an hour and a half checking out the exhibits. Charlies nature land is fun for the kids, but would be nicer if there were some shade. It is completely in the sun making it ridiculously hot on a warm day.
They sure did upgrade that park its very beautiful and brand new looking also have lots to do..... Love this park
Nice walk around the park 2 miles. Alot of people walk jog there daily. Zoo is nice for the kids..
Quiet place
We had a fun day here but the zoo could use some more excitement. We loved the bears, cougars and beavers! On this fall day there was hardly anyone there so that was nice. Nice day for the price but I wouldve loved some more animals and less Halloween decorations. There were way more decorations than animals. Also, the little inside area where the monkeys and turtles are, isnt even marked! My husband opened the green doors and peeked his head in and we went in! No signs or anything! The workers at the touch tank could be less creepy and more friendly. They just stared at us silently.
I love going to see the elephants. A smaller zoo but worth the price.
Great for small kids. Wish it could be bigger but needs more funding
Great zoo
I grew up in and around the fire one of the better spots in the city
Beautiful clean park. Long walk around, basketball courts, baseball fields, and a zoo! Also has public restrooms.
I play softball in a sober league there every year and the playground is great for my daughter to play at. Theres always a lot of people there and in my experience there hasnt been any bad experiences. Also the zoo is fun for the day it has a lot of animals and the aquarium is nice too.
Boo at the zoo was great and the zoo overall is a great place for families and kids
Went there with my family and the little one loved it, so exciting, and the animals look well treated
Lovely little zoo, it is a short loop . Their cafeteria is overpriced. They advertise concerts on Mondays but you have to pay extra for it, as well as to ride on their carousel or train.
It would be 5 stars if their were bathrooms or even pools
Love this zoo! And as a bonus they have an awesome playground for children and basketball courts and thats all free! And right beside the zoo there is a lake where theres are tons of ducks and geese and now theyalso have the swan like pale boats!! So much fun
Very family orientated... Love it
Great place for the adults and kids to hang out and shoot some hoops
Nice park and playground with a pond and a zoo right there.
Very nice Park with a good zoo
Nice small zoo. Nothing fancy but a Good place to take the kids to help them appreciate that there is more to this planet than they might realize
Awesome fun BOO in the park.Train ride, candy and more.
Doggies love the park!
Buttonwood Park has come a good distance over the past few years adding there rainforests section they have the merry-go-round I just wish that they would bring back the monkeys and some of the other animals that they have gotten rid of over the years its a small zoo but its not too bad
Not too many vendors fewer rides... But nice time.
This park is decent, but nothing special. I only go here for the PokeStops and walking my dog once in a while, but never alone.
They need monkeys
Cute zoo, clean cute gift shop too
Very nice place for a walk.
Nice open area for the kids and a welcome change to the hustle and bustle.
Awesome place for a Scenic walk .... paddle boats....park zoo and more
So much fun!! Even if the zoo isnt open
Great place for a walk.
Cool place to go
Very exciting small local zoo in New Bedford Area.
Good for waking around, bird watching
My kids enjoyed this park alot. Such big open area. Surrounded by beautiful trees. I yet havent been to the buttonwood zoo. I will eventually. Overall great space and lot of benches to sit and relax.
Rich heritage in tree and animal species!
The Best place
Nice time!!..nice place to unwind and relax... very peaceful..sat around the pond ..watched the geese, and Swan boats...I go often...
Great sites, good energy, zoo right next door to see the animals and brighten your day and bring the kids along
