This place is amazing. There is so much to do here. There are paintings, artworks, and sculptures. If youre lucky you can see the legislature in session. The views from the state capitol are also amazing. The staff here is always friendly and helpful no matter whats going on. Keep up the good work!
Lots of history, art and sculptures. The blocks around it have some impressive buildings and monuments. Worth a look if youre in Nashville
Great architecture. The top looked like it was being repaired or restored, so it would have been great to see it in all its glory. Nice, peaceful place to walk through and around with many statues and dedications. Hard to believe it was built over a hundred years ago. The grounds are very well maintained, but the fountains werent running, probably because its winter. It is probably even more impressive when they are running.
Beautiful capital the grounds are immaculate and we are planting 400 flats of flowers around
One of the several capital buildings that do not have a dome. You can do a guided tour at certain times or just show up and do a self guided tour. Be prepared to go through a metal detector and security before entering but once inside you can wander around in your own. No entry fees to enter. The building sits on top of a hill which allows for some nice views of downtown.
It was great here if youre a Guest. You can Explore Eveeything From Paintings to History. It will be Better if youre in a School Field Trip or A Private Group. In November, We Visited the Second Floor, It was a Great View! We Also went Inside of one of the Rooms Which They made Laws in Them. We Explored All the Floors. After all the Exploring, We went Outside to see the Things in one Path. It was a Much Better Trip than Going Anywhere. Its was the Best trip Ever!
Inside the building was anticlimactic BUT when we walked the outside hill it was so nice! We took pictures and the little ones ran around. It was interesting and fun. It’s also really cool if you go to the capital hill park across the way to see it from a distance. Beautiful view of the capital and the city behind it. The people who worked there were very nice and the law enforcement employee at the front door even took a picture with my grandmother to humor her. Overall a fun experience
A lovely state capitol.
A magnificent piece of history that stands tall above the Bicentennial Mall and The Farmers Market... The interior is even more amazing than the exterior, full of history...
Awesome architecture. We went there during new year so it wasnt busy with traveler.
I HAVENT EVER BEEN THERE, HOWEVER! I READ THE REVIEWS. WOW! I AM SAD ABOUT THE BEAUTIFUL STATUE BEING KNOCKED DOWN.VERY SHAMEFUL!!! I MEAN, ANDREW JACKSON OUR PRESIDENT!!! WHO EVER DID IT SHOULD BE ASHAMED. HAVE RESPECT!!! I WOULDNT WANT TO FACE THE LORD OF DOING SUCH A TERRIBLE THING LIKE THAT. PEOPLE NEEDS TO LOOK TO THE LORD.
In terms of views from the outside, not the most impressive State Capitol or grounds youll see, but the view over the city is nice
Wonderful evening spent at the Capital with my children while they were able pages for the TN House of Representatives. Wonderful educational experience for them and great evening to admire the stunning architecture of the capitol building.
I went there for school tripThat I remember I was great but I don’t it well because was in middle school if I remember correctly so sorry there isn’t infor I can give u
This is a beautiful museum. It has a guide that explains the history of the building. Its free.
Beautiful historic building glad we experienced it!
Great tour, nice staff that is knowledgeable. We both are very happy we went there!
Today we headed to Nashville to advocate for our city.Standing for residents and professionals.Covering everything from broadband access to taxes to tax sales. This year the Tennessee Blue Book is yellow !Why, because this year is the 100th year anniversary of Womens Suffrage. Women were able to vote! African American men were able to vote 50 years later. African American women followed.Meeting with Barbara Cooper (District 86), Katrina Robinson(District 33), Joe Towns ( District 84)They have a lot of work to do.THEY HAVE ALREADY ACCOMPLISHED SO MUCH!******Lets support them as they promote us!*******#TnRealtorDayOnTheHill
LOVED IT! If you are able to be there and take the guided tour do it! So so worth it and this is a beautiful building!
Beautiful historic building. On a funny note I had no idea Davey Crockett was a politician.
Built by the same man who designed independence hall
I enjoyed my night just relaxing and listening to the sounds of Nashville around me. It was pleasant, no one bothered me and the capital itself is beautiful at night and while I watched the sunset.
Beautiful. Met friends from Memphis and put our feet in the fountain.
This was a nice family friendly place to go and learn some of the history of Nashville and Tennessee. They do a free guided tour a few times a day and our guide was great.
Very exciting to be able to tour the Tennessee State Capitol. Veterans Day on the Hill 2020
Its a nice Capitol building. Nice architecture, well kept grounds.
One of the oldest working capitols in the United States, the Tennessee State Capitol serves as home of the Tennessee General Assembly and houses the governor’s office. The cornerstone for the building was laid on July 4, 1845, and construction finished in 1859. The building, one of 12 state capitols that does not have a dome, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and named a National Historic Landmark in 1971.
Really good! If you want to learn about TN pick up your free blue book here! A tour Guide named Jennifer was very nice!
Tennesee is awsome
Great views, and things to do. Definitely want to come back and spend more time!
Beautiful building! A must see if your in town.
Beautiful landmark.
Greeted by state police security..Entered through tunnel access convienient... take a guided tour if you do not have a destination
Beautifully lit at night. Not a lot of foot traffic, either! Worth seeing at Midnight, especially under a full moon!
Beautiful outside lots of space to walk and enjoy
Unfortunately I went by the Capitol on a Sunday and it wasnt open to go in. It has some decent views of the park below and cool statues of past presidents.
The capital of our nations finest state.
Very cool architecture and its great to admire this building.
State capitol, worth visiting if youre into that kind of thing. Even if not, the building itself is worth a visit.
Pretty cool place to walk around and read history.
Positioned on a hill overlooking Nashville, this is one of the most beautiful state capitols. Do keep in mind that the building closes quite early.
Take a look at my photo.
Oliver was a fabulous tour guide. Super informative. Worth the hour tour.
Wow! The sense of history and the sense of pride that these folks have in their state institutions is really neat. The southern hospitality is real and on display here at the Tennessee state capitol. You can literally pop in and you might meet the governor, or members of the legislature, or the secretary of state. They are happy to have you visit! Such a neat building, too. Great for history buffs and architecture lovers.
Do the tour great history lesson and free.
This is a Beautiful place to visit. From the Architecture to the grounds and landscaping to the rich history from inside the house floor to the gravesite of James K Polk.To think Davey Crockett stood on the very same floor and many many after him and the history behind this building and its architects and members of the house and senate and legislature. My good friend is a state representative here and I was given a tour of all the grounds and the offices across the street and it was so amazing that I will forever be thankful for this experience.Great Beautiful place to visit and tour and watch while floor is in session from the top balcony. This is a huge part of Tennessee and American History and everyone should visit at least one time.HISTORIC PLACE
Awesome landscape!
Beautiful building. We were glad to visit. They have self-guided-tour pamphlets available or you can choose a guided tour. We opted for the self-guided option. Dont be afraid to go out onto the upstairs balconies- theyre all accessible and offer stunning views of the city! Take the time to walk the gardens outside, also.
Awesome architecture! A great walk in the daytime
Awesome Capitol Building, it has a lot of history to the structure. Especially since its been around for over 150 years. The building features a lot of historical buffs and monuments. Theres even a bullet hole on the staircase from an attempted assassination back in the 1800s. All in all a great place to check out and maybe even see the governor.
Cool place to walk around if visiting. not sure if there is a tour or not.
You can easily hit all of the sites in the area in a three mile run!

Beautiful building overlooking a nice plaza.
Delightful and beautiful. Worth a quick visit on a Sunday. No parking issues.
Gorgeous
Cool building and landscape etc but parking is difficult to find.
Our tour guide Lauren was phenomenal. The building is gorgeous. Tour took 45min and was well worth the time. My 8yr and 5yr old even loved it.
We went on one of the guided tours which were about 1 hour. It was very interesting. Lauren our tour guide was outstanding and super enthusiastic.
Modeled after a Greek iconic temple the Tennessee state capital is a fine example of stone and iron engineering/ construction and Greek Revival architecture. Well worth the time to stop by and admire. The building is also registered as a National Historic landmark.Equally worthwhile is entering the structure and taking a self guided tour of the old supreme court rooms (they know meet in their own building on the same campus).
Awesome architecture! A great walk in the daytime
Beautiful park around the Capital building. Got there after the Capital had closed. Will definitely go back
Great to see preserved history.
Wonderful experience walking through the building.
Located on a hill above downtown Nashville, the Tennessee State Capitol is one of the smaller state capitol buildings. Still, its very beautiful both inside and out. Also, make sure to visit the tomb of President James K. Polk on the grounds outside.
Was at the Nashville Capitol for the eclipse. Clouds didnt cooperate, but the staff and elected officials were very hospitable. Governor Haslam and Treasurer Lillard were especially gracious. They both came out and greeted us. Thank you, gentlemen, for your kindness.
Another must see if youre in Nashville.
Historic and beautiful building, interesting features and easily accessible location. Worth a visit while being a tourist in Nashville.
Figured I would go see the Nathan Bedford Forrest bust before it was removed. Really nice staff. Very cool to walk around for a while.
I havent been inside the capitol yet, but have walked around the grounds a few times. Even in the cold winter months the area is easy to navigate and offers lots of views of the surrounding city. There are many statutes and memorials around the capital that are worth vising.
Beautiful building inside and out. My family loves to walk around outside exploring
My favorite stop on the ghost tour app we were following. Cool architecture and history, and its haunted by the folks who built it! fun! Good free tour available if you time it right.
I will always carry those memories with me. State Capital is an awesome place.
We never went inside but walked around the outside. very scenic.
Very interesting place. I am from Ohio so it was a very interesting and educational tour
This is a hidden gem. The inside decor is beautiful. Can still see bullet holes from the civil war.
This beautiful building makes me proud to be a Tennessean.
Theres so much more to see than just the state Capitol Building. The grounds surrounding the building have statues of former Presidents on display, theres the Tomb of James K Polk, and a Living Memorial of 6 trees in memory of the six million Jewish victims of the Nazi Holocaust.
I AM PROPOSING MAKING STRICT AND MORE STEARN LAW FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ABUSERS . I AM PROPOSING A SERIAL ABUSER LAW . AND MORE HELPFUL AND SAFE AVENUES FOR ALL THOSE IN A DOMESTIC ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP. I AM EXTENDING MY VOICE, MY FACE, MY SURVIVAL STORY TO THE GOVERNMENT TO ADVOCATE FOR BETTER LAWS. AFTER A RARE MISTAKE WAS MADE BY THE STATE IN THE CASE WHERE SOMEONE TRIED TO KILL ME. AND HAS YET TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. AND IN LESS THAN A YEAR ASSAULTED ANOTHER WOMAN AFTER HE ASSAULTED ME.
Very well maintained capitol building for Tennessee. Great views of the city and friendly staff!
Really enjoyed the tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable.
Grounds are nice but layout is a bit confusing. Inside is nice. Staff is helpful.
Simple, small, yet elegant building that offers beautiful views of the city, a friendly staff, a great deal of history including the tomb of James K. Polk. I would allow an hour to see the beautiful grounds and the capitol building itself. The capitol also offers a great workout with all the steps if you choose to forego the tunnel entrance or if you decide to walk the grounds.
The Tennessee State Capitol is one of several examples in Nashville of Greek Revival architecture. Tours are provided free of charge. Also, on the grounds of the capitol is the tombstone of the 11th President of the United States, James K. Polk.
Great view!
It was under construction, but still an impressive building regardless.
Love this place. Takes some time getting used to navigating the halls.
Its a historic building. If you have never seen State Government in action you need to go watch the Government in action.
Best view of the city here
Beautiful views of the Capitol are available from every side, especially from the north where the capitol towers over Bicentennial Park. The architecture and lighting are stellar and there are many opportunities for solitude and reflection if you walk around long enough.
The Tennessee State Capitol is a beautiful building that I recommend visiting if you have the opportunity.
Such a beautiful building, that all must see,on their visit to Tennessee.Free admission. Bring your ID! They scan it before going through the metal detectors. They have a self guided tour booklet (which is provided free of charge). I followed the booklet but pretty much got lost at the end. I had to figure out where I was most of the time and couldnt. Its only two stories, how da heck did I get lost. Just go cuz its free, because no one would go if it costs money. Its our states place of business, not a museum.
Nice place
Very beautiful building. Incredible design
