Saturday train rides to Watertown Carthage or Lebanon for a variety of locations specific events and attractions. 1950s vintage trains fully restored with all amenities. Museum has pro-caliber fully operational electric train displays. Currently restoring steam-powered locomotive to pull Saturday excursions in the future.
My kids positively love going on the train. The sounds, the sights, waving at people in cars waiting for the train to pass. They get to see things we wouldnt normally visit. Its a very fun family activity. We would recommend.
Highly recommend the train ride. The employees are really nice and helpful. Highly suggest getting there alittle early. The lines get long quick!
We drove about 5 hours to get to Nashville to ride this train. Before purchasing tickets, I asked if the train cars were decorated for Christmas and if we could get hot chocolate and snacks for the kids. We were told yes to both questions. When we arrived to be seated in our dining car, we discovered the train car had NO decorations. I dont even remember a window cling or anything. We wanted a table so the kids would be able to sit their hot chocolate and snacks down and not spill everything/make a mess, so we booked a table for 4 in the dining car. The ONLY place to buy the cocoa and snacks was literally right behind us. So, we had a LONG line of people standing right beside us practically the entire train ride. People apologizing for falling into us, smacking us with big purses, etc. The only saving grace was that the kids were sitting next to the window and were oblivious, so they had a good time. Maybe the people in other cars didnt experience the same, but, we were in dining car (not sure which one....the tickets say TCRX 3119, Row Seat 3 A, B, C, D. $32 each for adult seats, $21 each for the two kids.) We are not planning on going back.
If you like seeing trash and homeless tents it’s a great ride.
On the way to our excursion there was a tractor trailer wreck on I-40 at the 160 exit on 9/5/2020. We were totally stopped for over 5 hours and missed our train. They do not refund money but we were compensated with another chance to take a different excursion. Excellent customer service!!!
The food was edible, not the best. Mac and cheese was cold. Service was ok. Very turned off by the political signs in the window. Doubt we will be back again.
Really cool museum thats computer free to the public. Theres a small exhibit out near the entrance where theres lots of interesting artifacts on display. Near the back of the museum contains 2 large model train sets which allow you to experience the model train world in a whole new light. Seeing the trains moving around the track is an absolutely amazing experience. The train yard containing full size passenger and engine compartments is also a fantastic sight to behold. Worth a quick stop if you have the time.
Took the Delmonico Winery excursion last Saturday. The trip was great! Wine tasting aboard the train on the way to the winery included 12 different wines! Its a 168 mile round trip on a vintage style train, with conductors in period clothing! The train station personnel were very friendly and helped us understand history about the railroad and the trains. The winery representative was present on the train to provide the wine tasting and explain everything about the wines. When we got to the winery we spent about two hours dining and listening to live music while shopping. Enjoyed fun games and winery tours. I would highly recommend this excursion as it is the only one like it in the United States! I picked up some wine and souvenirs on the trip and the prices were very reasonable. I would recommend booking very early though, as it fills very quickly. You should consider booking 5-6 months in advance.
Fantastic great train ride, friendly personal
Great fun for the whole family relax and enjoy the sound of the tracks beneath you clicking away
This was a lot of fun. Great scenery, good time for real conversation with people, and I never had so much fun being robbed. I just wish we had about an hour of more time in town as the depo restaurant gets busy and doesnt leave much time to check out the town. This train also has winery tours. I will go to those as well.
Went on their fall foliage excursion, loved the view, but the boxed lunch was below sub par. Even for a boxed lunch.
Was great. Wish the museum was still open for a while after the trip so it wasnt so congested leaving. Id have liked to be able to see more before we left and not just sit in the jam. Going back sometime just to see the trains. Really enjoyed the trip. The people on the train and in the town 6 Star.
The cutest train museum I ever did see! The staff are friendly and efficient. They are very informative and helpful about the trains tour and what they have to offer. My family loved it!
Great staff and who doesnt love trains
Stopped in with a few train enthusiasts to see museum and hobby shop. Great collection. Didn’t book an excursion for this time but we will have to come back! I must write a review to shout out this wonderful crew of volunteers and staff. Josie in particular went out of her way to welcome us and show us around. She has a contagious enthusiasm for trains and even more so a profound appreciation for the vibrant culture and community of this industry and bringing people together. Thank you for your kindness and we hope to see you again!
Everyone was so nice and wonderful. Only thing i didnt like was that i was supposed to get 2 1/2 hours in Baxter but only received 1 1/2 hours there. The trip to Baxter was supposed to arrive at 11am, but didnt get there till 12:15pm. I will return again. Cause other than what I stated I really enjoyed myself.
Took this train excursion to WaterTown. Affordable day trip and friendly staff. If you cant get the dome seating, get the coach setting in the reclining chairs. Snacks are affordable on the train. Lunch in Watertown is pretty good. The depot is good place to get lunch. I was expecting more scenery, but looking out the window of the train was a lot of houses and industrial scenic views. We would do this again.
This was a fun relaxing excursion. The train was vintage from the 50s, that was about 16 cars long, not including the engine, and it came with a heist. The men were dressed up as train robbers complete with bandanas covering their faces, spurs, guns and holsters. They even had a demonstration in the Watertown square. All money collected went to local scholarships.
Really cool for train history!
Small, but interesting railway museum with HO and N scale layouts and a museum of central TN railway artifacts. They also run periodic excursions on vintage rolling stock and locos. The staff were very friendly and admission was free. We bought our son a wooden train whistle here and he absolutely loves it. We already bought tickets for the holiday train excision and cant wait to ride.
Well first things first. Your story is out online with that said I felt robbed already knowing the outcome. Then you should print up. An itenary so that people know they are going to be left in a deserted town with nothing to do in the freezing cold for almost 3 hours. And dont advertise that there are snacks and meals served when you have to order from a snack shack on board. This could be great with a little effort put into it. Get a NEW STORYLINE!
DO NOT take the The Valentine’s Murder Mystery train ride! It is advertised as “adrenaline pumping fun” for someone “obsessed with thrillers”. Nothing could be further from the truth. In reality, you spend 4 hours in a musty train car and are stranded for 3 hours in Watertown where there is absolutely nothing to do. The “murder mystery “ consists of a 15 minute skit. Save your time and money!
Great place to visit and talk with experienced railroad workers and fans. Nostalgic rail cars and locomotives to see and ride. Excursions are well worth the time and experience.
We were Told over the phone the train ride to Baxter and the Fall festival would be 3 hrs. We would have 2 1/2 to 3 hrs there and then take a 3 hr ride back to Nashville. The rails were being worked on so the ride turned out to be Over 4 HRS LONG. This should have been on the Website and known by their desk personnel. Also, once you purchase the tickets you couldnt change your mind. We barely got a hot dog ate and they had us getting Back on the train. We didnt even see the crafts. It was VERY DISAPPOINTING.
I took my granddaughter for the polar Express trip. Santa and the elves were there for photos. Very enjoyable experience.
Great fun on the train excursion where the train is robbed. All money is given to high school students for college. My grandson loved the journey on the train.
Train ride was fun. Murder mystery show was a little short but thats understandable as they gotta travel to perform in each car. We stopped in Watertown where we had dinner and headed back after 3 hours. Overall it was a pleasant trip.
It was nice. Could be cleaned up and better & the Thomas train smelled a little.
I only stopped at the museum to wait for the train. We went on a 168 mile round trip to a winery. Wonderful time.
Fun, but take their estimated arrival times for train trips as broad estimates. We were more than half an hour later than they said and we will be much, much later getting home than anticipated. Otherwise, a fun time.
This museum is a bit of a hidden gem just outside of downtown Nashville. They are one of the last operating stainless steel streamliners on the continent. Wish they would advertise more though. Then more people could visit and they could operate more trains.
We enjoyed the Santa Express trip. It was a great experience. The souvenir car was fun for the kids but they dont offer professional photography so bring your own camera. The conductors were courteous and helpful and the bathrooms were clean and relatively easy to access.
A small museum but very nice and informative.
Fantastic place. Lots of history and train models.
I was there for a train ride (which was amazing) and the staff, which I would assume were part of this establishment, were excellent as well. The model trains inside the waiting room were cool. Its something to check out if you dig trains or maybe want to try something youve never experienced.
Like itAll of the volunteers at the Tennessee Central Railway Museum are ready to work on Nashville Chattanooga and St Louis J3 4-8-4 #576 The Spirit of DixieLove the history of the locomotiveWe will like to come back to the museumTo hear her whistle sing on down the lineIf her whistle would talk, she will sing a song on down the lineKudos to the Tennessee CentralGod Bless
Went on the wine train excursion. It was awesome. Just wish we got wine samples on the way back too :)Also the souvenir shop really is geared towards children.....would be nice to have some adult items for sale.
I have been on 4 trips, the winery has been my favorite. Train robbery, mile long yard sale and fall festival have been the others. Great ride and informative car hosts make for a great trip.
They have some really neat items on display and we were able to enjoy the train.
Basically I just stopped by to see some friends and see some of the equipment they got good operation, anybody wants to ride with this group I highly recommend it.
Did the Polar Express. The trains were clean and very nice to ride in.
It was very nice and Good. All of the Staff was very Nice.
The museum is free of charge. If your an old Nashville native, you will love the old train track from the 1960s.
The museum works with what they have. I went on the, Wine on the rails to try something new. Upon arrival at the museum I had to fight for a parking space. You park on the street or wherever you can, there is no parking lot. But the museum had people directing traffic so that helped. The inside of the museum isnt a life changing event or somthing you will always treasure as a memory. As I mentioned earlier they work with what they have. The staff and train conductors are very friendly and add to a great ventage atmosphere. All in all, it was somthing new to try and the museum has potential if it had more funding.
Windows on cars desperately need cleaned...other than that, very fun trip!
Went on wine tasting trip. 4 hours to winery, 4 hours back. No table for at least playing cards or to set a glass of wine or snack. That small addition would have made a huge difference in the very long trip.
They where great, However Muddy Roots s wine train to Lebanon at the Mill Event was misrepresented and a lot of what was marked on the tickets we as customers did not receive. WILL NEVER DO ANY OF MUDDY ROOTS EVENT. Will do all the rest of the ones that Tennessee Central railways Museum have to offer.
Had such a great time going to Baxter!
Had a great time. Early 50s coach in good shape, good AC on a hot day. Looking forward to fall foliage trip!!
Great place to see vintage streamline passenger train and historic railroad stuff. Cool model trains too. Very good excursions on Saturdays.
This place was a huge dissappointment, and coming from a big railfan like me that takes a lot. Walked in to the building and made my way down a hallway that led to a room that looked more like an office than a museum. The woman at the desk, taking a break from her phone conversation, quietly told me we were in the gift shop (coulda fooled me) and told me the model train layouts were through a door and there was an artifact collection across the hall. The artifact collection was interesting but small, confined to a single room. The gift shop wasnt more than a few shelves with t-shirts and mugs. The model layouts were in a large, incredibly hot warehouse area and werent running. Ive been at the museum for maybe 10 minutes now and the phone conversation is still going on strong with no end in sight. I walked back over to the artifact room and eventually asked the lady how to access the outside equipment. This was when I was informed that a that you could only see the railroad equipment on a guided tour (which their website makes absolutely no mention of and there were no volunteers there to take me on one. I hope the woman wasnt a paid employee because if she was shes being paid to talk on the phone with earbuds in and almost completely ignore visitors.) I left the museum shortly after, completely disappointed, with the sound of phone gossip emanating through the halls.Long story short, not worth the price of admission. Which was free. Would much rather pay for entry and receive a good experience. Wont return.
The Tennessee Central Railway Museum in Nashville was a great adventure and discovery. We visited the museum, marveling at the replica train system, with stops, cars, exchanges. There was no one at the museum that did not want to buy the pieces and attempt to recreate it at home, in particular the children. We took a train ride that was a delight, going through the mountains to observe and admire the wilderness. Highly recommend!
I always wanted to go on a train ride and I love yard sales so this trip to water town for the mile long yard sale was perfect for me. The staff on the train were friendly and very helpful. Our train car was a coach from the 50s and I could vividly imagine what it was like at that time. I can hardly wait for the next train ride with Tennessee Central Railway. Great experience!
Very good time with friends on the wine train.
The railroad is spectacular!! Love it here
Sweet little place. Friendly staff. Had a great personal tour.
Absolutely worth every penny. Had a Wonderful experience.
Loved the place and the owners were really nice, all over it was a very good experience. :)
Did the tour of engine 576. Very informative and interesting.
Small but very informative train museum. Staff are very knowledgeable, friendly and willing to give you a tour even if you’re only a small group of people.
Small, but if you are interested in TN railway history its worth a look. There are a couple train setups in the back; ask where they are if you cant find the door. We were there when there was a big train show going on a few blocks away. Maybe it wouldnt have been so quiet and small if that werent going on. You can buy train parts and pieces, and some souvineres there too.
Great place if youre interested in trains.
Awesome place to go to even if youre not riding a train. The museum features some cool railroad relics and some awesome model layouts in multiple scales. You can also go check out some of the trains out in the yard. Theyre really awesome. They also restore trains here, so you can look at those as well.
Our Easter Bunny rain ride was fabulous ! Our coach host, Randall Brooks was helpful and really, really a nice man. Parking was just fine, we arrived plenty of time to get a good parking place...late people, oh well that is what you get for waiting until the last minute. Our three grandchildren had a grand adventure !! The weather was poor BUT the folks in Watertown were nice, they gave the children a egg hunt. There were only 3 restaurants open which was difficult and if you have problems walking, wear a brace because you have to walk in Watertown...We loved our trip !!....Cheryl Ivey
Great time friendly people lots to see. Fantastic model trains running. Got to walk by the real trains but didnt get to go inside
Really enjoyed the time on the train and the staff were great.
Met two very nice people there.
Couldnt really tell ya...made Reservations months in advance to get there and the trip be canceled (after driving all the way put there) and now cant get a reply about our refund - that was 2 months ago!
Very friendly people and they do a reasonable job with the historical equipment
It was a fun experience, and I would do it again. The car hosts were very knowledgeable.
A very fun experience. I recommend people give this a try.
The train ride was amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip.
Went for a day out with Thomas. The kids had a decent time. More geared for ages 5 and below for Thomas, but the train ride was nice
Great train show. Great railway cars and restoration efforts. Parking is somewhat of a problem.
Wonderful to have a place to learn about the railroad tracks in Tennessee.
Great fun, well worth the money. Awesome staff and great memories.
Interesting place Didn’t go inside of the museum because I was mostly chasing NC&ST.L 576 and the museum was close that day. I will change my rating once I go there
What a FARCE! Who are these people writing those reviews! NO WAY!! We walked in and looked in the 1st door on the left and asked the young lady listening to her EarPods about the museum and Trains, she said that the displays were in the ( 7’ X 12’) room behind us. (Victor Wong’s pics are Everything that’s in the room) and the rest was in the Warehouse, which consisted of somebodies Toy Train set off to one side. There were no Real Trains to see or walk through and the young gal said the Train rides were only once a month. WHAT A COMPLETE DECEPTION! The brochures, signs, EVERYTHING... DECEPTION! THOSE REVIEWS... DECEPTION!!
Was so looking forward to this but was extremely disappointed. We sat on a train for almost 8 hrs and spent only 2 hrs at the vineyard. I would not recommend this. Coming back there was some entertainment on the train that made it more tolerable.
Had a great train ride with my husband from Nashville to Lebanon and back. The passenger cars are from the 1930s. It was a nice get away for a day.
Went for the Thomas The Train event and had a great time.
Have a pleasant conversation with a gentleman about steam trains. Part of the yard was closed due to the weather.
Overall the experience was very good. It was very friendly the hostess people were very very friendly and attentive. We were very much aware of the people around us on the return trip in the dome car, so we really enjoyed the trip back more. At Baxter itself in town, we had trouble finding someplace good to eat. The food that was served at the Welcome Center was cold and not enough condiments and other things with it. We ended up going over to the pizza place where we found lots of people eating pizza, we found very very friendly waitresses there also, and had an overall very good to excellent experience at the pizza place. Overall I would rate the trip over as a six, and the right back as an 8.
So sad. They dont provide enough information about the tour, before hand. I called 3 times to ask how long the layover was in town and got the same answer train leaves at this time and arrives back at that time. Never could answer other questions. They apparently use a company like LiveOps and have paid people who work out of their homes and read scripts. Then on the train ride back they turned most all the seats around so people could be riding forward facing. I was no longer near my family across the aisle. They really dont offer enough information and then they have unwanted surprises later. I realize some of the workers on the train are volunteers. And most know the history but I was sad about lack of customer service for people that dont live in town or this is their first experience with the railroad. Also during the murder mystery the Granddaughter of our car assistant who was a helper stood in front of the actors and was very annoying. I have pictures so I cant be contradicted. So sad for all the money I spent and I did not have a good time.
It was raining so dirty and muddy. Our Thomas Train ride was a joke... it is not a real train ride. They will drag you 30 minute back and forth. Then they let your child to see Thomas Face that is upfront of the train and take quick pic. My son is 3yo. I dont think he got the idea that he was riding Thomas the Train.
My son loved the train ride and Thomas event!
Went on the Santa train. The train ride was great but the town didnt have anything except a place to eat.
We went there on a Thursday and there was nothing to see becuse they told us that the place is run by volunteers and as they were not there that day there was nothing they could show us. It is a very small museum though.
Museum was closed but a kindly gentleman showed me around. Very knowledgeable and I had a wonderful time
Good experience. Old trains and pretty clean for its age.
Day out with Thomas was really good! My nephews loved it! It gets better every year!
