Definitely recommend. The boat had a lot more hidden rooms to go through and look around in then I thought. There was so much information, articles, history, examples, and more. It can keep you occupied for hours through all the different places. My parenter and I ended up asking a volunteer to help us find the deck and we all ended up talking for maybe an hour or more! He was so informational, helpful, sweet, and more. Its a definite recommend for those who love history and want to try something new!
Great exhibits. Allowing great access to the different levels and rooms in the ship. Knowledgeable and very helpful staff. Much more fun than other Navy ships weve visited in the past. A must see for WWII history fans.
I love this museum I went here took hundreds of photos a wonderful place to learn more about history I recommend this place for anyone interested in history
This is a great local spot to learn about WWII!
Great ship well worth the time, alot to see inside. Self guided tours are fine as well as guided.
Great to see some history. One of the few items that can still be seen that was is service in WW2.
Great museum! History comes alive on this WW2 tank ship. Highly recommended!
Great experience to go through the ship. It has a lot of memorabilia inside. I learned a lot about the D-day of Normandy invasions. Theres no guide, you can follow the maps throughout the ship. If you have difficulties on climbing stairs or have issues with tight spaces you may not be able to get into all the locations. They arrange also sleepovers in the ship if youre interested.
Live History. It impacted me strongly seeing the pictures and artifacts of the World Wars.
Took my mom and my daughter there. We spent probably 2.5 hrs walking around, looking at everything. It was nice talking to the folks working there and getting tons of information. Definitely a place to go to if youre into history stuff.
We visited July 2017 and the whole family loved it!! My 18yo daughter, whos a photography student, got many beautiful shots of the awesome engine room. My 11yo son, whos a WW2 buff, loved the entire ship, my hubby loved that it was so detailed, everything was explained how it was used and I loved that its a museum & so many service men & women are honored in it! The volunteer employees were quick to Welcome us and thoroughly answered all our questions!! You will not be disappointed! A great thing for all ages!
Im not sure why more people dont know about or talk about this great floating museum. The group that operates this has pulled together an impressive array of memorabilia from throughout history. Artifacts range from WWI through the War in Afghanistan. They have sections dedicated to the veterans and equipment from each of the wars, plus an area for the “Muskegon connection,” as well as a memorial to K-9 warriors.A treasure like LST 393 deserved to be saved and supported. Nothing brings history to life quite like touring an old ship. Learning about the people who served on board, and the feats of service and bravery that ships like LST 393 represent, is inspiring.Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for students. You can tour the whole thing in about an hour to 90 minutes. But if you have the time, I highly recommend spending more time there. Stop and read the placards with information. Take a few minutes in each section of the ship to take it all in. LST 393 is a big ship, and sometimes things so immense are hard to grasp. But if you spend a little time there, you’ll soon have an appreciation for those brave souls — some who gave, and some who gave all.
Allot packed into a real piece of military history. Staff were friendly and eager to answer questions one gave personal stories of fallen soldiers. Only the ground level is wheelchair assessable.
A historical treasure! Well worth the visit.
You get to tour a tank carrier. How could it not be legit? Also, be careful climbing random ladders, I got shaky and almost fell 15 feet onto a metal floor. :|
Very interesting.
Love this place, it also makes me sad, but I learned a lot. Definitely have to visit again.
Wife and I spent roughly an hour reading and checking out the memorabilia and we still didnt get a chance to see everything due to time constraints! Very nice ship, great lessons from history and a fair price. Not for those who have bad knees/backs, lots of squatting down and ducking for anyone over 5ft 8in.
Wonderful and solemn addition to any sightseeing tour. I got goosebumps more than once. The history and honor of our veterans is well documented. Very much a story to see.
A fascinating piece of American Naval history. It was an honor to tour it.
I really enjoyed the whole thing. So much to read up on and see first hand. Very well displayed. Definitely worth every penny.
What a great exhibit. Anyone interested in WW2 history should see while in Muskegon
This was pretty cool and I say its worth going too
We went on a sunset cruise and it was awesome. I took some great pictures. We were not on the LIST but they were showing movies on the upper deck.
This is a very nice piece of history. Was a pleasure to talk with the folks there. They were very willing to answer any questions.
Really fun. Its big and full of secondary displays.
Super awesome and affordable on-ship museum. As we walked through and looked around you could almost feel the hustle and bustle of crew members making the ship run. This is a must go if youre in the area and Im pretty sure all the entry fees etc go to support veteran organizations.
Awesome floating Museum!!! Movies on Deck every Friday night during the summer :-)
If you going to military ships please dont miss this one! All Ships that you tore tell you of the campaign and actions they were in. I have never been aboard a ship that is seen so much action as LST 393. Every major Naval action in World War II seems to have been participated in by this boat. The tour of the boat is excellent youre allowed to wander around on your own. At least three quarters of the ship seem to have been restored to at least as good of condition as when its new. There are exhibits throughout the main deck as well as many of the side compartments. After touring submarines destroyers Etc the LST was a interesting change. Its all the most action what was the simplest and most basic boat in many ways of anything I had been on. Top speed of only eight or nine knots memes you plan to head with this boat. The same exhibit usually has a Vietnam era river boat they can also be viewed and I believe gives rides.Although not glamorous this LSD was one of the best 10 Naval exhibits I feel Ive been on
Excellent place for a history lesson on our American war history.
Not only was i able to drink some brews at the ship, but i climbed up to the top deck and watched a guy flap his bird at a drone. Hell of a night, recommend to anyone. P.S. You may not have the same experience as me.
Really neat historical landmark to have in town. You could see and explore many parts of the ship. In the summer they do movies on the deck which we are likely going to try soon.
Educational awesome to look at a piece of history. My kids have fun exploring the boat learning new things that are part of history.
Wonderful historic feature! Nice tour..grumpy guide...dont go if you cant climb/descend ladders!
Went with my hubby whos father served in WWII and my 17 year old son who loves motors. We all enjoyed it.
Wonderful trip into the past. Theyve done an excellant job of honoring our veterans.
On your own tour but easy access to whole ship!!
Magnificent historic boat that served on D-Day, and as a freighter after the war. Knowledgeable staff and a great collection of WWII replicas and things brought over from the European theatre on the tank deck, which doubles as a veterans museum.
So much memorabilia! Love the ship. Lots of history here.
Living history. A cool ship. 2 hours tour time max.
It was an awesome experience. Inexpensive but a fun self guided tour. You get to see the inside of the ship and the interworkings. Defintely a must see for history lovers.
It was so cool to see the ship and to pay respect for those who put there lifes on the line so we can live ours.
This museum is pretty cool. Its basically a huge ship that served during WWII (was even used at d day to transport tanks and troops to the shore). You can walk through the whole ship, including the engine room which is awesome, and they have lots of artifacts and models (ships, tanks, Jeeps etc.).Overall its a very cheap museum and its definitely worth the money, you could easily spend at least 2-3 hours looking at everything.
Amazing piece of history, 1 of 2 lst remaining in us. My whole family enjoyed the tour and history inside the ship.
Great place to take your kids in a lot of interesting things to see
This is by far the greatest festival ever, just to show our service men the respect they deserve
Was a great place lots of history only thing it was a little hot in the ship
Historically can understand more of the sailors lives what they did for us.
Beyond appreciative of the men and woman for sacrificed everything for our freedom! Very informative and cool!
Fantastic museum. Lots to see . Great history
Such a good way to see and learn about pur military history. Hands on with lots of information.
Amazing gem of a historical museum. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
What a great experience for our cub scout. We were able to have a sleepover on the LST 393. How fun full of history. You can spend hours looking at everything.
Interesting military Museum
LST 393 is a vital and valuable experience. It is a wonderful preservation of critical American history. It is all the more marvelous because it is the result from the beginning of volunteers and their commitments. It is well organized well laid out and well worth the time to pause and reflect at the historic vessel.
Excellent museum great knowledgeable staff and very friendly a must to go to great for kids too
Only 2 of these ships left. You can literally walk through history.
Neat place to check out but the best for young kids
Will miss Movies on the Deck til next year!! Thanks for a great season.
LST393 Veterans Museum Ship is a piece of history for all to learn from. Exhibits and memorabilia fill the inside. Open 7 days a week 10-4 through September.
This place is great the volunteers are amazing
Awesome tour from Tim on the LST today, we sure enjoyed seeing this piece of history!
So much history had to take in all in will definitely go agy
While touring during the Autism Touch-a-trck event found photos of family members we did know where memorialized there. So awesome!
What a cool piece of history! And they do Movies on the Deck, too! The museum is interesting and has lots of memorabilia from various wars in Americas history.
A great living history exhibit to the men and women of the armed forces from WWII to present!
Toured the ship on memorial day weekend. Really enjoyed being able to tour explore the ship. Very much enjoyed the walls honoring our local heros. Freedom is not free and this ship is a reminder of the sacrifices of those who have gone before. Thanks
Freakin AWESOME
I donated my sons Marine camo. I saw my dad on the wall of the people who served. Volunteers keep this memorial alive. Everyone, this is a must. Its heartwarming to see those who served. It was wonderful to be there. Its a must go place to visit.
An absolute gem of a museum housed in one of the Navys incredible assets that helped win the Second World War on many fronts. A must see for anyone who is interested in history and honoring our military veterans.
Wow! What a great place. So much history!
This is a great place to see when you are on the waterfront
Very unique compared to the other ships I have seen.
It was a great experience with my kids!
Great experience to share with children & grandchildren

An amazing stop for any military or auto history lover.#ToursAroundMichigan #MilitaryHistoryTour #AutoHistory #GroupTours #CustomizedTours #LakeshoreTour #MuskegonHistory #StepOnGuide #DiscoveryMichigan
Fantastic Shoreline Jazz Fest.
Very glad to see this former ferry returned to its WW2 Glory
This is amazing; they have done a wonderful job restoring the ship and there are numerous collections you can see (such as uniforms, helmets, letters, etc). We found it amazing being able to walk about the ship freely; many areas are completely accessible. The ship museum is ran by all volunteers and the reasonable tour fee is used in continuing to restore the ship.We were visiting Muskegon from out of town and are so glad we went. I highly recommend.
Its so interesting here
Coolness.
I will return to spend more time
We went there because a pic of my grandpa and they durected us to the pic good workers
Very cool ship to see a part of US history. Definitely take some time to visit if your anywhere nearby.
Great place to go.
Awsome !! Great learning experience
Movies On Deck....always a great time!!!
The LST museum was interesting to walk through. It is a self guided tour full of historical displays and artifacts. The staff there even took time to answer some questions. Great place for a lover of WWII history.
I was stationed on an LST while in the Marine Corps so I had to bring the kids here to see what ship life was like. While this was an older version of what I was on there were a lot of similarities in the two.I would highly recommend doing a little research before you visit to get the most out of it. Make sure you watch the film after you pay the entrance fee. It does a very good job of explaining the ship.
Great Tour, Something Everyone Should See
Very neat ship. Quirky collection. Kids loved it but not for little ones because you are touring the ship on many levels. Lot of walking. Warm on hot days.
