This is an historical landmark youll not want to miss in Montgomery, AL. Located across the street from the Capitol building, your curators are waiting just inside ready to help you explore the artifacts and beauty of a time long ago. The tour is free but youll enjoy it so much that youll be happy to make a donation before you leave. The grounds as well as the building are well kept for your enjoyment. Knowledgeable staff will share the answer to any questions you may have. And please, make sure you stop by the small gift/souvenir shop and make a purchase. And if you would, please tell Bob we said hello! Hes an amazing guide! Groups are welcome but a scheduled visit would be appreciated.

Friendly staff member greeted me as I came in. Well preserved home and artifacts. This is not the original location of the house. The exhibit also had numerous items from Davis himself; clothing, chair, pipe, family bible. Parking is out front, but metered, so bring some change. This location is immediately across the street from the capitol building.

I thought it was just awesome to see because Mr Davis is my favorite American President. A remarkable man, he was a father, West Point Cadet, Military soldier, U.S. Congressman, U.S. Senator, Secretary of War, and an American President. I think this country misses men of his caliber.

The house is amazingly preserved, and the job done to collect the artifacts and possessions of Jefferson Davis and his family is outstanding. The rooms are beautiful and the experience of seeing the decor and furniture from that time is fun. The Confederate artifacts are in great condition. Really wanted to visit the inside of this place, but got stuck driving through Atlanta and just missed the museum hours. The building looks like its in great condition, and based on the reviews, there are some great artifacts kept within the museum. So glad the generally unspoken part of US history is still being preserved in the South. Cant wait until I get to visit again.

Amazing place for immersing yourself in the Civil War History. The staff are amazing & ultra-conservative, even the black woman working the souvenir shop. They fully agreed with me that we should secede again & they gave me kudos for dealing with my fellow Liberal students. I find their merch kinda pricey, though.I came here once last year & again this year during Higher Education Day. Being able to visit places like this is why I like HED. Sure, the event itself is garbage b/c its a bunch of entitled students whoring for govt money, but its visits like these that make it all worth it. & also, the admission to the House is free!!

The First White House of the Confederacy provides everyone with a intimate look into the First and only Family of the Confederacy. With articles owned by the Jefferson family, there is a rich and detailed history to see in every room. The House has been kept up quite well and the staff are friendly and happy to answer any questions. Regardless of your politics, this is an important place to visit. Remembering places like this house and people who dwelt in them reminds of of our past and the people involved. Take the time to visit the house if you find yourself in Montgomery.Admission is free and the gift store does take debit and credit cards along with cash.

Ive ALWAYS loved going to this place. Unlike a museum that changes displays; this doesnt. The rooms are still set up and displaying the same artifacts as when I was a child which I think adds to the curiosity. Considering it was the home of Jefferson Davis and all the items were owned or in his era, it makes sense :-) Its pretty small even though its a 2-story home, so large groups (school, church and such) will find it a bit cramped. The displays are in each room of the house made up to showcase how the home was originally set-up and furnished. Because of this, the entrances of the rooms are roped off about a foot inside so very few people can see in at one time. Which is a hassle when youre waiting your turn in a group and only get a few moments before you have t0move on. Theyve gotten better though with group management, so its still worth a pop in and a must see if visiting Montgomery for the first time. Its downtown so theres no parking unless you park in a deck and walk, or park next to a meter and walk! :-) Many people just park in the Archives parking lot and walk. Its a short distance away and the walk in actually pretty nice. Also, theres always the nicest and most knowledgeable volunteers operating it when Ive been.

It is a self guided tour with a guide book and you can take your time reading about and looking at all the historical memorabilia. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Regardless of what this place meant at the time of it being created, this place is now a part of history. As someone who grew up in the north I never had the opportunity to fully learn about the southern history and how they saw themselves from an unbiased viewpoint so this was truly a unique experience. Regardless of where you are from, I do recommend visiting this place (it is free to visit) because there is a lot to still learn. It is a self-guided tour and I highly recommend taking the information books on the tour and actually reading it because otherwise it will just look like an old house. The first man we met upon entering was also so incredibly personable and extremely knowledgeable about the time period. There is also a small gift shop inside. Again, this place will always be a very controversial place but it is a part of history so we must accept the good and bad to improve the future so I recommend visiting this place and learn about it.
