I was on old Monterey to attend whalefest. The park ranger pointed us in this direction. What a beautiful home with lots of history. I would have loved to see the upstairs but considering the fragile state of the stucco I can understand why its closed off. There are signs warning visitors not to touch the walls as you could see portions of the wall have fallen off to expose the brick on the inside.Dont forget to enjoy the beautiful garden.
Stumbled upon this during some free time I had in Monterey. Located in the historical center of Monterey, I found this little brick building to be very interesting. It was free and open to the public, as a self guided tour of sorts. Inside are panels with descriptions of the interesting history behind this building and several old pictures. The grounds are peaceful and serene. It will be a quick visit, maybe 20 minutes tops, but there are several other historical sites in the area that can be visited to make it a full morning or afternoon.
Very beautiful.
As of today, December 24, 2018, the museum is open for self guided tours only, though it is considered to be temporarily closed for reasons Im not aware of.
