Old fashioned theater. Cheaper than the chains, basic concessions. The auditoriums, esp #3, are pretty small but the sound is very good. My only complaint? Some of the country bumpkins that go there dont know how to behave in a theater. Talking, laughing, etc non-stop.

Love the atmosphere and staff. We frequent the drive in more often but both are great local places to go. Only wish they had more showings available and had cupholders instead of either holding drinks or setting them on the floor. My 10yo ended up accidentally kicking his over. Also wish they took debit cards since i rarely keep cash on me and checks are outdated.

The movie was great, It2, but the company in the theatre was horrible, very upset to see and have to listen to all the kids talking, making all sorts of noise and taking pictures with cell phones during the movie. I thought rated R meant no one under 18 unless with an adult? 80% of the people in there had to be under 16 with no adult. Very disappointed, not even sure if there was an adult running the theatre tonight. I wasnt the only one complaining walking out. I know alot of the kids parents as well, they werent there and would be very disappointed on how their kids were behaving. Now i know why its been years since i have been to the theatre and watch movies at home.

The employees were great and prices were fair but theater #1 (beautiful old stage) has horrible sound and has for years. LITERALLY BETTER SOUND FROM A TV. The other ones have updated digital surround but if your movie is in theatre 1 I suggest elsewhere.

There is definite and obvious room for improvement. In order I encountered the issues when I visited. The first is that only cash and checks are accepted, I can go to a booth at a fair and they will take my card it isnt that difficult to upgrade. Tied to this is that things like moviepass are impossible to use without upgrading. The second is the popcorn that I got was stale and it was obvious that they were scraping the bottom of the machine, this was just before the matinee showing of a blockbuster release, fresh popcorn would make sense.Third is that the seats do not have cup holders, a minor issue but inconvenient.Forth a friend I came with commented how the previews did not match the audience for the film and that there was oddly few of them if the intention was to draw more viewers they failed. My intention is not to be rude, but simply to be honest to help both future customers know what to expect and provide constructive feedback for the theater.

I definitely enjoy seeing movies here, and the theatre environment is nice enough. The site tends to be hard to navigate, though, and it can be hard to tell the details of a movie. Picture quality is good, sounds nice, yada yada yada. The snacks are overpriced, and the 500 You Wouldnt Download a Pizza ads before the movie starts can be annoying, but otherwise the Goetz is fairly nice.

So! Lets get down to it.First time going into this establishment. The building is beautiful and looks great from the outside, step up to the tickets booth and it goes down hill from there. The woman in the booth stared at me until I walked up, was short with me and it seemed as though she was just miserable to be there.Go inside towards the concession booth and it looks like a broom closet. The women behind the counter were eager to make people move along far too quickly.I ordered a med. Dr. Pepper and it was a full cup of ice. They probably hadnt checked the fountain bags because it was very watered down. The popcorn? I would eat microwave popcorn anyway that what they served, and a small bag of m&ms? I pay less at a Gas station.Walk into the theater room, plenty of seating, the floors were sticky and the room was too warm and muggy/stuffy. The arm rests had no cup holders, not a problem but and inconvenience. The seats themselves? I was practically sitting on a metal bar the whole time, very uncomfortable. The movie was so damn loud. I cringed a few times. By the time we left I had a horrible headache.Sorry but im not going back there.

DO NOT VISIT THIS THEATER! THEY ARE RUNNING A SCAM PURPOSELY CHARGING THE WRONG AMOUNT TO VULNERABLE PEOPLE; THIS IS THEFT. I took three young children to watch a movie and the person in charge of tickets would not issue my a receipt, I understood the price was on the tickets so I didnt make a big deal--no receipts for concessions either which was a huge red flag. When we got home and I did the math I realized the reason the ticket man would not give me a receipt is because he had over charged me almost ten dollars. Went to speak to the owner and he said; I wasnt here so whatcha want me to do about it and was incredibly rude and told me if I wanted my money back I could file a police report.

We frequently see our movies here. It is an old theater that has charm and some issues, but we are fortunate to have a theater nearby offering current movies at a fraction of the price of the larger chains.

The owner (Duke Goetz) is very rude, condescending, overbearing and doesnt care enough for his 3rd generation business to invest any money into its appearance. To mention a few issues, its cold in the winter, and hot in the summer. When it rains you have to wait in the rain to buy your tickets, and the bathrooms are disgusting. If I could give this establishment a zero rating I would, and I pray for the day when someone respectable buys this establishment and improves the appearance of our historical square.

Review №55

The owner is somewhat overbearing and frightens away paying customers. His fears about carryins at the drive in have been so neurotic that he not only reads a a disclaimer style rules list at the gate, but also cranes his neck to see into your car and look for anything (a soda of instance) for which he can bar you.On a recent trip my husband and I went in, with little more than a giggle at his speech, to wait for my mother to join us, but she was asked to throw out her mostly empty can of soda. She didnt have a cooler or snacks... just a quarter can of soda. If he had let her in with it she would have inevitably have purchased more soda and snacks, but instead she felt insulted by his overzealous and overbearing behaviour and left.I understand his intentions: profits at movies theaters are largely drawn from concessions. BUT making your customers feel harassed to the point that they opt of attending and returning will close your gates.Seriously if have a lack of business there are several things you could do other than harass your customers:1) Lower the cost of your supply chain by seeking out more competitive vendors2) Increase marketing to high schools and colleges (student nights and attached discounts /coupons)3) Creating up-grade combos to encourage multiple item purchases-ex: family feast- 2 pizzas, 4 sodas, large popcorn, 1 candy (then price just slightly under the total of the products individually)4) Renovating the menu with lighter fare - make it a dining location outside of the movies, so that showing are full always5) pre-sell tickets (perhaps with reserved seating) - theres an app for this....In general if you lack customers... you CANT make your customers feel like you directly blame them. You have to look for ways to encourage the purchase of your own products (meaning your concessions). Make them better than what they can bring in and they will to eat your food, not to avoid eating it.

Sky View and the Goetz Theater needs to be sold to a new party that interested in at least maintaining the old facilities, instead of sucking every dime out of the placeBathrooms are terrible, plumbing out of order, and not to code.Goetz 1 is a dump. All the Seats are shot, its too big for the screen size, floors are always sticky and discusting.Fresh, hot popcorn? Not so much. I have never witnessed their machine make popcorn, or smell like fresh popcorn. Its more like its dumped from a large bag and warmed up in the machine.Supervisor Employees are rude, self centered, argumentative, and dont care about the customer.I feel sorry for the young ladies serving pop, popcorn, etc. They looked like theyre scared to death theyll do something less than perfect, and get aggressively managed by management staff. As for their ticket prices, theyre not a good deal as the place is a dump, and poorly managed.AMC Theaters charge $5 for a matinee, and their theatres are amazing with fresh, onsite Orville Redenbacher popcorn. Finally, on the fraudulent side, check the ticket prices versus what you are told to pay. They dont add up and somebody is putting extra money in their pockets are theyre hiding Income from the IRS (perhaps thats why they only take cash).Freeport theatres are of the same vintage, but they have been updated and are first class while preserving the vintage look.

The sound needs a lot of work. Compare the Goetz to the Classic Cinemas Lindo in Freeport IL, not more the 25 miles south of here. Lindo wins. As a Monroe citizen, Id like Goetz to take note and improve, but, perhaps they dont care and the $ is more important. Says a lot about them...
