What a unique facility in a Western town that displays tremendous artistic use of the crops of the land. Truly a display of corn wheat and other locally grown farm products to tell the local history. Must see as you travel through Mitchell, South Dakota. Notice the detail in the hand made murals using corn, wheat, milo and other grain products, both inside and outside the auditorium.

If you have time and want to see something different then stop. It is interesting to see all the past designs but also the current one in person. The kids enjoy going to it for the first time. They have a concession stand with food and beverages. The also have a penny and quarter souvenir machine. It doesnt cost anything to look around and you can leave a donation.

Worth the stop. This FREE destination is full of historical photos and works of art by Oscar Howe. The building itself is an example of a folk art form that can only be seen here. Took time to watch a movie explaining the history. Incredible process behind the design and construction of each years new look. Be sure to go out onto the balcony outside on the second floor to catch yourself on the corn cam!

We are so happy we stopped. We almost drove through as we were already in the vehicle for over 6 hours driving home. Finding parking was super easy. The building is beautiful in and of itself, and the staff were very friendly and informative. Lots of picture ops and great informative historical information posted all around the building.

Very cool. Visited in early October, so some of the more seasonal things were finished. Lots of history of the palace, buildings, area itself. Many art exhibits to look through. One whole area was the sketches that inspired all the different corn murals. Very interesting! Will need to visit again during the summertime and when we have more time to devote to it!

Quirky place to visit. Went when Covid restrictions were in place. Sad to say it didnt really live up to memories or expectations. There are a lot of historical photos of the place and how its appearance has changed over the years, and some cool corn mosaics. Otherwise, its just a giant gift shop in the center of the place.Staff were super friendly.

This place is a very interesting place to visit not just because its a Corn Palace that has murals inside and out made from dried corn cobs, but because of its history. Even before cars people from all over the world would come to visit. In addition, big musical stars for their time period would come as headliners: John Philip Sousa, Tommy Dorsey, Lawrence Welk up to stars from today. In the middle there is a basketball court used by a high school and college. Across the street is a gift shop, but no books on the complete history of the corn palace like on the murals inside the Palace.YOU HAVE TO READ THROUGH THE MURALS TO REALLY APPRECIATE THE CORN PALACE. (Sorry for yelling there )

Everything I remembered from 30 years ago. It was nice seeing all the pics from years past. The pic from 1989/90 was exactly what I remembered as a 9 year old. It certainly leaves an impression on you. And how amazing the mosaics they can do with corn. Its mind boggling. If youre traveling near Mitchell, its definitely worth your time to stop on by and check this place out.

The history of all the past years and history of Corn Palace are murals on the wall and free to the public. The amazing corn art decoration on the outside of the building was awesome and photo worthy. It was a simple and inexpensive short road trip that shared some local community efforts and history shared world wide

Sure its not a destination but it is definitely worth the stop as you tour the plains states. The Worlds only Corn Palace has served Mitchell since 1892 for an assortment of functions to this day. The Palace murals are redecorated each year, very intricate and made out of ALL corn with the color scheme representing the theme for the year.Entry is free. Concessions, restrooms, and a entire gymnasium-sized gift shop are available. Street Parking. Restaurants within walking distance. The Palace appears to be the pride and joy of Mitchell and is worth a visit.

I visited this 43 years ago and it was just as amazing. To see the very large murals all made of corn cobs and then to learn the history was quite interesting. Interesting that they change the murals every year. Used to be designed by one guy, now computer designed and laid out. The time and effort it takes is amazing. Then all the history. Fun stop at a cute little town. Loved the murals made by talented people and information on how they are made. We also loved that it was dog friendly. Free to go in and also had very helpful maps and booklets available on visiting South Dakota. The people who were working there were also very friendly. The only negative thing I would say is that we thought the popcorn and gift store were very overpriced. I feel that if the prices were lowered, they would sell a lot more and make more profit in the long run.

Totally corny! Loved every minute. I had very low expectations, I thought it would be a concert venue with a small gift shop. Nope. It was essentially just a gift shop to be sure, but the shop was on the floor of the concert venue (a basketball court). They let you go everywhere, there is tons to see. It is not what it used to be. I went as a kid, it was very colorful. The old entrance has been replaced, the spires on top of the building are now metal instead of corn. A tribute to local corn,, this building has been around since the late 1800s. While the exterior has undergone a few structural changes, an annual theme portrayed in corn husk and cobs (as well as a few native weeds and plants) is very detailed. The borders are painstakingly pieced together every summer with various dried weeds and plants, while the main image is pieced together in fall with 12 varieties of local, dried half cobs. The picture gallery details the themes through the years. The inside of the building has tributes to corn as well with corn pillars, a history of the palace and corn, picture booths and many, many photos - all free! There is a basketball stadium inside which is occupied by a huge store selling corn and some local items - foods, trinkets, jewelry, clothing, decorations etc as well as a store selling varieties of popcorn. A corn cam rounds out the whole place. Definitely an interesting place to visit. You can spend an hour there!

Circling the inside of the venue you realize its a basketball court with bleachers. The floor is covered by a gift shop. Im not really sure what to do with or think of this place but I do know after talking to the locals they call this The worlds largest bird feeder! true because the birds pick the corn off of the building. Adorable town, great local businesses, silly tourist trap to lure us off the highway. But hey, it worked so great job! This town has great food and amazing hospitality.
