Have attended multiple shows here, it’s different than rest of the downtown theaters for sure. Nice arrangement, every seat has a good view and good sound. The selected plays are always worth a watch. Easy parking in front of building and special pricing for rush club members. They also have a awesome lookout balcony which has almost 360• view of stone arch area. A must watch during summer and fall.
The Guthrie Theater is a great place to go and see many wonderful plays. I personally go to see the Christmas Carrol every year and it is a great experience. Recently, however, I have noticed that the plays have sadly become slightly less family friendly which is something I hope can be remedied. Service is great however and the people who work there are all very kind to guests.
From plays to classes the Guthrie has is all! Every performance is top notch and their prices are affordable. If you want to save a little money you can always buy tickets for performances that are before opening night. I usually pay between $15-22 for these tickets and think it’s a great deal. The Guthrie also offers acting classes that are incredibly fun for all ages!
Went here to see William Shakespeares play. The staff there was so kind and was very helpful. The play overall, was very entertaining even for my nieces, which known nothing about the details of the play. They loved it. The view from the theater to St. Anthony bridge was lovely. It was a very beautiful place. Definitely going here again.
The Guthrie has been an institution in the twin cities for decades and actually generations as well. An annual visit to see a Christmas carol is a fantastic way to mark that special holiday season. If you are passing through the twin cities and are able to catch a show you will not be disappointed. From classic productions to the modern affairs the shows push forward the American theater scene.
The Guthrie Theater was such a cool place to visit! My friend and I went here to see Cyrano de Bergerac and the stage, the acting, and the costumes were incredible. They have a cute little gift shop with many show-themed and interesting items on display. The nearby park is very pretty as well. When we go again, I hope to see the famous gold room, which was closed when we were there.
This theater has so many interesting nooks and crannies to explore, even when youre not seeing a show. The building itself is immense and understated. There is an Mississipi River overlook (outside) at the end of the cantilevered bridge that is a must-see. Also check out one of the bar/hospitality areas on one of the upper floors for more spectacular city views through the yellow-tinted glass and the fun glass floor.
Saw Steel Magnolias with the girls. Wonderful acting. Beautiful place!, but dont park in the Trader Joes parking lot or pay $50 to get out.
The Guthrie is still doing virtual shows. I plan to take in a show or two especially around the holidays.
Prepare to be dancing in your seat as the cast of Guys and Dolls takes you on an incredible ride that will capture your heart from the very first song and dance number. I love, loved it... through and through. So much talent and hard work from everyone involved, produced this magical night for all of us to enjoy! If only we could experience two musicals a year...how much better our lives would be. Unfortunately, slow parking exits are always a big problem. Why not pay upon entry? please consider it...thank you.
Views of the Mississippi from the endless bridge are incredible. The escalator to the fourth floor is really long. Dont look down!
My wife helped design the acoustic isolation for the building. The security chief gave us an awesome tour so she could check out how her work had aged. One day we will come back and take in a show. It’s a very cool building.
I loved the Guthrie Theater! I went there only two times and I enjoyed the architecture of the theater itself and the view is also gorgeous! I want to continue to go to Guthrie and continue to have amazing experiences there! The seating was comfortable and the stage work of the plays themselves are made just right. The setting is perfect and the plays that are performed are great!
We went and saw A Christmas Story last night. It was so amazing. The theater was beautiful. Not a bad seat in the house. We also ate and got drinks before in their cafe. Great food and service. I would highly recommend!
Impressive building. Have seen multiple shows here, always enjoyable. The view from the outlook is nice.
Park in a lot! Or ramp, not on the street.Street parking is limited to 2 hours. For a 90 minute performance, we were 15 minutes over 2 hours. There were meter enforcement people roaming when we got there actively watching meters that were about to expire. When we left we didnt have a ticket, thank God.Since 2 hours is very short for plays, I am VERY surprised the Guthrie doesnt have nearby street parking for at least 3 hours.Forget about eating dinner nearby. And the escalator only goes up before the show and only down after the show. They apparently couldnt afford 2.
The image I have is just one of their rooms. This is a Christmas Carol. The actors were amazing even down to the little kids that were in it. There is dining/lounges throughout the building. I would definitely go here again. One of the best in the Twin Cities for sure. I wish they had some sort of a dress code but they dont. Some people go looking kind of grungy but overall it was a great experience.
Great place to visit and see overview the river dam. The best place to enjoy plays too
Great place to visit. We walked across the Stone Arch Bridge and up to the Guthrie on a gorgeous fall day. It was free to explore and not crowded. We had the entire Amber Box to ourselves! Excellent place to take photos and great views.
The Guthrie is a first class act! Its a whole lot of excellence throughout, from the amazing show to beautiful facility. I especially appreciate that the venue keeps their endless bridge and top floor lookout room open to the public. Its a great part of the neighborhood!
The yellow room is a great place to take pictures, this theater has lovely views and shows great plays, workers are very nice and helpful and this place is an overall great experience, I would recommend going there with friends or family just to explore and see the view of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. Also the long escalator with mirrors is so cool.
Went and saw A Christmas Carol here. I know theyve been doing it for many years but Id say theyve perfected it. It was truly incredible. Ive gone to many, many plays and theaters and Id say that was hands-down the best play Ive seen. If youre looking for a great, smaller theater, go to the Commonweal Theater in Lanesboro, MN. But if youre looking for production, effects, and overall to be amazed, Id highly suggest A Christmas Carol at the Guthrie. Wow.
Familiar play was fabulous. Beautiful theater. Make sure to allow time to look around. Great view of river. Nice eating options. Super friendly staff.
The view from the Guthrie Theater is amazing. Its location is easy to find and parking is also usually pretty easy. Its outside of downtown enough that you have to worry about struggling to find parking but you can also walk to other locations in the area without any trouble. Atmosphere is formal yet also casual and relaxing. Great place to go for date night or even as a family.
So lucky to have a theater of this caliber in town. Never been disappointed. Beautiful venue and not a bad seat in the house for the Wurtele stage. Young people, check out the 30 below program- going to be sad to turn 30 this year!!
Its one of he most oddly laid-out buildings that I have ever visited. The theater space is on the upper floors and gallery space is on the lower floors. I suppose they want to get people in touch with the history of the Mississippi River when Minneapolis was a wee grain mill town back in the day. There are places in the building to view all different angles of the skyline. We saw A Christmas Carol here on the thrust stage and it was an excellent production. Theater staff are courteous and the restrooms are spacious.
What an amazing building! It was great to come early and explore the building. The yellow room on the 9th floor overlooks the city and even though ALL of our pictures are yellow-tinted, it still made for great pics! We even had enough time for a nice warm bowl of lobster chowder before the show. They have a restaurant right there! And the show......was AMAZING! VERY PROFESSIONAL and VERY ENTERTAINING! We cant wait to go back.
We saw Twelfth Night here, which was a production that simply did not hold back. Beautifully dynamic lighting, scenic, costume, props, and sound design coupled with a truly dedicated cast who were obviously enjoying themselves playing their roles made this show an absolute delight.
Seriously a fantastic experience! From the open door greeting, to the store staff, excellent food and service, and finally the play: all of it was extraordinary and I cant wait to go back. If you havent been here for awhile (or ever), go! Wont be disappointed.
Great views of downtown Minneapolis and the river Northeast Saint Anthony Main.
Amazing atmosphere from the Amber Box on the 9th Floor of the Guthrie celebrating with the RE/MAX RESULTS Top 20.
Amazing spot to get some fantastic views of the river and the city. Almost 360 degree views from very high up. The endless bridge is a must see and the 9th floor Amber box has a unique charm as well. Very quiet with very few people and fantastic hours. And the best part is its free! Come check it out!
Incredible architecture created as a working theater and permanent public space!
Amazing theater experience with quite the architecture! See pics below.Did you find this helpful? If so please like the post. Thanks!
The yellow room, although kinda basic for photos, is amazing
Spectacular show. It was my first time here and I couldnt have been happier with the performance of A Christmas Carol. Im deducting one star as the concessions could have used some more help during intermission. You cannot expect two employees to cover everyone in the theatre. The line was very long.
Truly one of the most magical holiday experiences I have had. Its not just the shows that are spectacular, its the atmosphere that wraps itself around the entire building. Before the show I was able to see stunning views of the stone arch bridge and mill city. During the show I felt like I was watching a beloved story unfold in an entirely new way. If you are considering the Guthrie, please just go. I had never been before, and seeing A Christmas Carol there is something I will undoubtedly treasure for a long time.
Great stop to see the river while exploring Minneapolis! Go upstairs to the observation deck for the spectacular views!
We really enjoyed West Side Story. The seating in Row D was phenomenal and put us right in the action. The wait for a beverage during intermission wasnt long at all, and gave us enough time to chat briefly before heading back in to finish the show. Impressive stage changes, incredible cast, and comfortable seats.
Nice architecture and amazing, nursery place to visit in Minneapolis.
A lot if history. Its great
It is breath taking. The theater is modern eye candy. Situated on the Mississippi River overlooking the Stone Arch Bridge, it offers a panoramic view of the Riverside neighborhoods. The plays are well directed with excellent local talent. So much to see. Plan to come early and stay late. They have a gift shop and food venues. I loved it.
What a blessing to have such an amazing theatre at your finger tips. I took my mom to see their production of “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” and our seats were great, the show started on time and the production value and acting was top notch. It’s no wonder that great actors get their start here. Not to mention that the theatre is in a beautiful location and their observation deck and “yellow room” make for a fun way to pass time during intermission with a drink in hand.If you’re visiting the area and looking for a great activity taking in a show at the Guthrie is a great option and well worth the cost. And if you’re local and haven’t yet been to the Guthrie it’s the perfect date night or a great gift for someone you love!
Heres the deal with the Guthrie Theater - it is a statewide point of pride with an impressive history and a commitment to continuing excellence. The THRUST stage is a stunningly intimate space that everyone should see a performance on. For real, something about it is magic. The PROSCENIUM is classy and elegant and an acoustic masterpiece to rival the Ordway.Go see more shows.Notes:- NO TICKET NEEDED to visit during the day or evening to just explore the space. The AMBER BOX and ENDLESS BRIDGE are both legit 5-star worthwhile features to see.- TOURS are available and are comprehensive and fun- There are basically no bad seats
We always love going here! They put on wonderful shows and have you wanting to come back time and again. We have seen A Christmas Carol at least 6 times! Love this place!-Mel & MattReds Rusty RelicsVintage Items on Etsy
Great destination for an evening, or simply to take in the play. Full dining and bar service with reservations. Ample parking in the ramp across the street. Easy access from freeways and down town.
Great place to get views of the Mississippi River. Also the building itself is in this architectural wonder. Checking out a play was also a very fantastic experience during my stay here.
The performances are always top notch, but even if youre not seeing a show, The Guthrie is always a great idea for spending time having a drink or viewing the Mississipi from the endless bridge.
A world class theatre. Dont miss seeing a show there if you are in the Twin Cities
Great views of the Mississippi and arch bridge. Nice addition to our visit of the city
We have been to several Christmas Carols at the Guthrie. This one is a fine edition, rendition.Of course pictures of the show proper are not allowed, so here is one of the crowd awaiting the opening act.
The Guthrie Theater is a must see for those visiting Minneapolis.I Went here recently with my wife and some friends to see the Glass Menagerie. The show was extremely well done. You feel so much more connected than if you were to just watch a movie. Besides the show itself, their is so much to explore there too. The yellow room is beautiful. Their gift shop is quite nice. And the observation deck is breathtaking.
First time I have been to the new Guthrie and thought it was a pretty good place. Easy to get to from any direction. Plenty of parking directly across the street in the public ramp. The venue was excellent and the play was a hoot. I was especially impressed with how quickly you could exit the theater and the parking ramp (15 minutes from end of show to freeway entrance). Go and enjoy a play.
I love the Guthrie Theater and have been attending since I was in grade school when it was connected to the Walker. Theres no theater like it in MN in terms of its dedication to exposing everyone to quality performances. There are affordable ticket options, especially with rush, and they host school groups all the time. The Wurtele Thrust stage captures the spirit of the place, the actors are connected with their audience, to the community. Ive stayed for after-performance cast Q&A, I regularly visit with friends just to wander the building and enjoy the views. Its a Minneapolis institution.
This place is really enjoyable, dramatically designed, colorful, and comfortable. A really enjoyable theater, with a nice restaurant and bar. We had a couple drinks and saw a show, and had a good night out.The elevators and escalators are pretty cool. The yellow room up to has a nice view of the city.Friendly atmosphere, great acting staff.
We have been going to the theater for many years. Some years were great and some, well, not so great. The current production of West Side Story is fabulous. The sound is crisp, vocals, orchestra, and dancing are all true to form and wonderful. We enjoyed every moment. The building is quite a feat to be enjoyed, with the long escalators; that reminded me of the Tate in London; to the overhanging deck where you can enjoy a drink and watch the river roll by. A truly enjoyable evening.
We always have a great time at the Guthrie. Their on site dinner is just OK food but the wait staff are fantastic. The bathrooms are a bit lacking... If you have to use it during the show it may take awhile to get to em. The shows are second to none... Great entertainment.
Wonderful facility and easy parking across the street. The seating is comfortable and it should be easy to see what is going on from any seat.
Lovely theater. Excellent views from the lookout, but the building itself is the main event!
Its the Guthrie. Its extraordinary. Ive seen a few things here now. If you can, this is TGE year to see A Christmas Carol. Theres something special about this years production. Dont drink the wine, though - its terrible, lol!
Such a GREAT performance! So funny and the acting was Fantastic. We have so many talented people here and I am so PROUD to call The Mpls Guthrie Theater my hometown entertainment center.
Saw Judy Collins. Fabulous! Such a great theater. So intimate. You cant go wrong no matter where you sit, unless the person in front of you is really tall and youre not. You will not be disappointed.
Great view, good shows and overall good atmosphere. Can’t wait for this place to reopen.
Nice venue. Good production. Rush tickets sometimes available 40 minutes before a show. $10 to park in the garage across the street.
Twelfth Night new and entertaining. The theatre never disappoints. Access and parking is so easy, making a visit pure joy.
This production was fun to watch. I have seen a TV production, a movie production, snd a high school production. I have enjoyed them all. Thank you.
I love the Guthrie it is my favorite theater! Affordable and they do an amazing job.
Had a great time at the Guthrie! Beautiful venue and fantastic performance. We saw Shakespeares Twelve Night, and the actors and sets were wonderful.
Awesome architecture from the ouside and inside. Very nice staff to navigate you to the Endless Bridge, if you want to have a great view of Mississippi, Stone Arch bridge or Pillsbury Mill building. The entrance to the view is free.
Best show I have seen was at this theatre. Went with a college field trip but they really do love performing their acts and the staff is very kind.
Phenomenal. Saw the Christmas Carol. Beautiful venue. The Endless Bridge observation deck is a beautiful view of the city.
Crown Jewel of the Twin Cities theater community. Not a bad seat in any of the three stages. See live theater as it was meant to be performed.
Fantastic venue for food, education, and arts. Great views from the fourth floor that overlooks the Mississippi. Come for a dining or a show you wont be disappointed!
Wow, amazing place!! I did not realize this building is open when there are no performances as well and you can explore the building and walk out onto the end of the building that overlooks the river...beautiful!!
Lovely place, real fancy restaurant. The amber room is amazing. Nice view of the city too!
A great venue to see your favorite plays! Almost all the seats have a good view of the stage. You are also encouraged to come and visit even if you dont have tickets - the view of the Mississippi from the bridge is not to be missed!
Great venue, Christmas Carol is a wonderful show. I plan on seeing several shows this season. Highly recommend.
Nice place to visit. Free to walk around
While I didnt care for the play, the facilities were out of this world. The Guthrie theater is an exquisite architechtural marvel.
12th Night is magnificent and hilarious! High praises for every actor on that stage, the costumes and set design were notable as well. Loved it!
This place is overrated. I get it, great scenic views and artsy spots, but you cant pay me to spend $80+ to sit on those horrible theater chairs again! I felt to so claustrophobic, like I couldnt breathe or move. Forget about trying to go to the bathroom you wont we able to leave your seat, everyone in your row needs to get up from their seats so you can leave your seat.
Went to see Guys and Dolls. The performance was great especially the two main ladies of the show were phenomenal. The choreography of all the dancing was just great too. I enjoy the balcony seating because the people in front of you are seated much lower so they arent in your visual field. Also the seats are pretty wide. They dont really recline but they are nicely padded.Enjoy the show!
While smaller than the Orpheum, the Guthrie has a more modern look and feel. I went there to see A Christmas Carol (an annual tradition here), but they show many different plays throughout the year. Theres a restaurant on the main floor next to the souvenir shop, and a small cafe upstairs. If you venture up to the upper floors, be sure to check out the view outside on the endless bridge! Its especially breathtaking at night. And for us women: the smaller scale of the theater means shorter bathroom lines at intermission! Lol
I enjoy performances here. Majority of them are high quality. I also enjoy taking in the various features of the building, the different stages, views, etc.
Playing at the Guthrie now is a new play Noura. About Iraqi refugees in America. It was short and wonderfully staged. By the way when youre at the Guthrie stop at the Target bar and Tim will make you great cocktails that you can carry into the theatre.
This theatre is magical. A true commitment to arts for all, 9 dollar theatre upstairs. Rush tickets for shows and quality. I just saw West Side Story and out of a dozen productions Ive seen of this musical this was the best. I was in awe and emotional after it. An open space during the day check out the Amber room and endless bridge. A true credit to our thriving theatre scene in Minnesota. Im a fan and for good reason.
Take your time and visit the Theatre. Only to enjoy the views from the Cafeteria at night is amazing, Super cool theatre
Kemi was awesome in arranging a group sale of tickets for 50 University of Minnesota students. The whole process was easy, lots of communication, and pleasant even though I came to her last minute.Everyone had an awesome time. I highly recommend the Guthrie and working with Kemi for large groups! Thanks so much!
Intimate theater. Amazing acoustics. Comfortable seats. No bad seats.
The Amber Room, also known as the yellow room or yellow box is a beautiful place to take pictures. the layout of the building itself is very confusing. during showing times the escalators only go up, and to get from the top half of the building (4-8) down to back outside you have to take two different elevators.
Sunday my friend & I attended Steel Magnolias . This was the best & most enjoyable play that I have ever seen. The ladies characters were exceptionally portrayed. I would recommend this play to all.
Great performance of Steel Magnolias! Good sight lines, staging & effects enhance the story. Actors make characters come alive & believable. Loved it!
Phenomenal venue. Great place to see a show. Not a bad seat in the house. Two restaurants on site, plus small snack bar. Great to get there early before show & eat.
