The Mount Tamalpais East Peak is well worth a visit. There are 360 degree views from the summit at the fire lookout tower and you can see for miles across the Bay Area. Best to visit on a clear sunny day for the best views. The hike to the fire lookout tower is only .3 miles one way, but well worth it for the views!
Breathtaking, the view from Mt. Tam at sunset with fog covering the ocean view, was unexpectedly surreal. These are my phone pictures; what I took from my DSLR was more dynamic. Here, I am at the top of the East Peak, looking out over the Pacific and the Bay.Word to the wise: dont linger long past sunset! Being the last to leave was not super pleasant.
Awesome view of San Fran and Pacific. Good trails start from here. Visitor center is small and it was closed on the weekend I went. Get a map from the visitor center or a ranger as the trails and signs can be confusing here. Parking fee is $8 cash; self-service money-in-envelope drop. Trails are great for mountain biking.
Best place to hike in the Bay Area
Really nice hike, wouldnt recommend bringing dog lots of ticks
Make sure you bring cash for parking and youll be good. The hile to the top is only .3 miles. Great place to visit for some great views. The trail is fairly easy. My 4 year old daughter did it without help.
Absolutely AMAZING views from here. This particular circular hiking path is entirely paved so it is extremely accessible for folks walking with a cane or in a wheelchair or who just want an easy hike with views for miles and miles.
The most beautiful and amazing views of the Bay Area you will find. Hike up to the Gardners shack and look south. On a clear day you can look back at the coastline. This is a must see!
For me this place is sacred, strands of hair and ashes float across the wind from those we survived remind us that the sleeping lady is our mother and when we are here we are home.
Great scenic drive with picturesque views of SF.
Incredible views over the bay area and a fun drive up to the East peak to get there. Huge respect to the cyclists going up and down that road!
Great on a Sunny day. Can clearly see the San Francisco downtown from up top. Google Maps does not show the exact location of the observation deck. Keep driving once google maps says you have arrived at your destination. Very windy and cold. Must carry a hoodie
Trails, views galore and acres of open space. What a place!
Went on a foggy day but still had a great time. Its a great spot thats so close to the city
Breathtaking views! You can drive up there but it’s worth the nature hike.
Great biking and hiking, also you cant find better views of the Bay Area. Just dont ride the trails illegally.
Nature, clean air, beautiful scenery.. and all within an hour from the city.
Great view of San Francisco and the entire Bay area Bay area from Mount tamalpais highly recommend you get up here during the week
Amazing view of the Bay Area. Great hiking and biking in the area.
Nothing can beat this sunset view!
Wonderful place for hiking, mountain biking, and all while seeing breath taking scenery everywhere you look.
Wonder views.. Great place for hiking
Great place to cycle, with plenty of views both close and far. I want to go back and hike some trails, but for now my legs are still tired from all the climbing. Bonus: traffic was pretty considerate on the descent.
Beautiful panoramic view, easy hike. Parking is fee is $8 (cash or check)
Great place for cycle. Just have to watch out traffic, as in this road is smooth. driver might tend to drive faster. Walk up to Gardner Fire Lookout to have a nice view.
Good place to hiking and cycling :)
Excellent views, can hike up to fennel Creek or can drive to visitor center and hike to top, 0.7 miles, steep, no strollers possible, kids on foot should be ok
This mountain calls my name every time I drive by. I. Love. Mt. Tam.
Get above the fog. Great view of San Francisco and the Bay Area. Bathrooms, water and picnic tables are here. Theres a gift shop too, even though it seems to be closed all the time. If you are climbing Tam on a bike, this is the top for you.
So many trails so little time! Mt Tam has something for everyone. Dont feel like hiking? No worries, the beach is just down the road.
Bring a jacket because the winds blow frigidly from the sea in the mid-autumn months when the waning moon hangs low over the sea. The natives of this county, Miwok, Pomo, Ohlone, never climbed this peak. For their lore foretold ill omens of Tams rocky crags. Especially when the moonlit shone on the strange and mighty mists which swirl at its summit.
Mt Tam, east peak is definitely worth the hike!
Awesome natural beauty!
Great views up and down the peak. Only costs a little bit of cash for parking. If you visit on a weekend afternoon the museum for the old tourist railroad on the mountain will be open, and it has a reproduction railcar of that era.
A nice spot just short of the peak with parking, restroom, etc. The hike up is not trivial, but I managed it okay with a three year old.
Nice and green and awesome. Road needs new pavement all the way up.
Beautiful, views
Stunning views and having such scenic open spaces so near the city is a treasure
Amazing views, clean bathrooms. What more could you want from a place to hike?
Great view of SF and the surrounding area. Trails are well maintained.
