Recommend for anyone in the oil and gas industry, and anyone passing through. Ive been in the field for years and it was so refreshing and informative, felt like I learned a lot here. It was neat to see how far the industry has evolved. Make sure to drive around the back to see the progression of pump jacks!

More than just a oil and gas museum. Since my background is in oil and gas it was great to see the transition of rigs throughout the last 100years by just going for a walk outside.... spend some time and read up about the rich history of oil and gas in the area both inside and outside. Museum has great layout inside and flows smoothly from exhibit to exhibit.

Was drug to this museum with by wife, fortunately it was not at all what I expected. I was amazed at how educational, entertaining and and very tech filled for the kids. The museum ranges from early oil production exploration to race cars to beautiful rock/gem exhibits. If you decide to view the different pumping units located behind the museum, I suggest driving from the east (right) of the building near the old wooden rig and drive northwest. There is a parking area at the unit viewing area.

Just superb. Great for kids, immersive and informative for those who want an excellent foundation to the petroleum industry here in West Texas also an overall understanding of the geology, throughout to technology. Wonderful historical references to the evolution of oil and gas exploration and development in West Texas. The Western masters artists display (currently on exhibit) was fantastic and educational fun (amazing how the museum configured the galleries of art seeing the artists development of a classic, from rendering of the West from pencil sketches through to the finished masterworks).Something for everyone especially good for kids to understand how much petroleum products and byproducts are omnipresent in thier lives despite the mis-informative propaganda shoveled out in every other outlet they are exposed to.Allow a couple of hours minimum. Interesting outside display of equipment too.

One of the few places to go in Odessa/Midland that doesnt involve dining out or drinking. Very informative museum and interesting to see the evolution of the oilfield. I particularly liked the variety of displays that showed a lot of the geological history of the Permian Basin, but also lots of displays that educate patrons about the necessity and reality of our need to drill for oil. Excellent mineral collection on display. Would have given 5 stars but a bunch of interactive displays were broken and not available which made the trip slightly disappointing.

Great museum! It is recently renovated, so everything is pretty new. Takes you through the history of oil in Texas. You really learn how oil is viewed in culture and over time. It makes you appreciate the oil industry for how difficult it is to get out of the ground and the technological advances in the industry. Make sure you ask for the key at the front desk to go see the modern oil rig exhibit. Family friendly and informative without much bias.
