Awesome museum with great information and educational materials. The grounds are beautiful and well-kept, and the scenery is amazing. This is a great place to take the family or a school group, or just to visit on your own. The hours are a bit random, though, so be sure to check the website or call before you go.
Closed until further notice as of 10-3-2020. They do not have any notices or postings online.
Cant tell others havent been to the old lighthouse museum in over a year because its been closed for renovations
Please if anyone had found a camera and a camera bag near the museum please return it to my sister. She has photos in there from when she was battling her cancer and of her daughter
It was closed unfortunately. But lovely little place.
A must see spot! The history held within the walls of this building are incredibly intact.Best thing about the visit was the couple that work there. Rod and Jan were super sweet and very informative of the area and its rich history. The view surrounding the historic lighthouse keeper building is equally beautiful!
A good place to go for a historical review on the area. No real tour guide to show you around but everything is labeled. The spiral stair case up to the top is narrow (only about twenty four inches wide) and steep. Place is not recommended for kids under five. (My personal opinion). Once at the top there is a great view. Nice way to spend about 45 minutes of your spare time.
Im a man with love of history, and this is definitely a unique place to see. I loved learning and the place is nice to look at. Would recommend tourists to checkout, or if you need something to do.,
Went for a free First Friday tour and the staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. Neat place with interesting stories. I learned a lot!
A lot more than I was expecting for a relatively small building. Staff really seems to know their stuff. Ive lived in MC my entire life and just now visited for the first time and was impressed.
Less crowded!
We arrived pretty late and the staff still allowed us to take a quick tour. It was cool walking into the lantern room and seeing the history of the area.
Very cool place! I believe it costs about $10 to get in. Its all in really nice condition. If youre looking to go inside a lighthouse, this is the place to go. It is really tight on the stairs going up to the light and when your in the light, but its got a nice view!
Very well done. Air was not wprking the day we came made it very hot upstairs. But the displays werw awesome. Great time.
If youve never been there before you should go you will be amazed its not just a lighthouse it has the local Indian history you will see artifacts from the area as well as a history of the first lady Lighthouse Keeper there at that Lighthouse back in the 1800s and you will learn about how difficult it was to be a Lighthouse Keeper in this very Lighthouse that is now a museum its fascinating its right in the park on the water in Michigan City you cant miss it its great go there bring your kids just call first to make sure its open because they have limited hours and I would say parking is available and free and then afterwards go to the Fish Camp restaurant next door and watch the boats go by you will love your experience but dont forget to give a contribution to the museum before you leave they need it to stay open happy holidays Go!
A marvelous piece of History wonderfully preserved. Well worth the visit.
This is a beautiful place, nice museum with a lot to see. There must be a lot of work hours in it. We really liked it.For Lighthouse Passport owners: they have two stamps, one for the old lighthouse (which is the museum) and one for the east pier lighthouse.Be aware they only accept cash and no restrooms on premises. It is a bit unconvenient since we traveled a hours to visit the lighthouse with two little ones.
Seasonal means open April 1 through October 31. Admission $5 for age 14 and older. This place is very very interesting. Be sure to go when you find the time.
Closed mi days and opens only afternoons, overall a nice place to visit, that power plant makes it even better looking
What a great placeOn a lazy day outingCheck it outLots of stuff you never knewLoved it
Well done! We are avid lighthouse visitors and we just adored this one. The museum is a nice blend of maritime and local history. Very interesting local baseball exhibit. Friendly staff and the tour books are a nice touch. Great history there!
Fascinating museum! Can take a folder and read about exhibits or press a button and listen to a recording.
Worth the stop to find out some unique lighthouse and shipwreck history
Cant wait to go back there so beautiful
This place is great if you need a quick history lesson on M.C and the lighthouse
Very cool and interesting! Definitely coming back again!
Very nice experience, they sure have it stuff full of history and artifacts
Cool place. They were having a special event so we got in free. Lots of history. The public beach near the lighthouse was nice as well.
Beautiful place to visit! I did not go into the museum the day I went, but the surrounding area is beautiful.
Very nice. Great for photo shoots.
It was nice a little bit of history. Admission is 5 for adults the only draw back is they do not accept CD.
Went for a boat ride, and stopped at the old lighthouse museum...both were fun.
One of my favorite places to visit. I dont get to come here enough. Immaculately kept, this little gem of local history is kept alive for our enjoyment and education. Filled with local donations and pieces of history, this place will not disappoint.
A bunch of neat history to be learned
The customer service was okay but the way the talked made it sound like they did not want us there. Some of the members of our group were looking at some items and one of them touched something. The lady said, If that is the way you are going to treat our srufd, then we dont even want you inside. Also most of the kids on our group were less than 14 years old, yet the lady gave up adult prices each just because we did not call.Sure it is a cool place... If you can even see it!!
Very interesting place.
Great historic place and friendly staff.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit there. It was a great place for history buffs as well as those of us who love lighthouses.
The people here are the best.
Good place to stop when boating on Lake Michigan. Good photo opportunity and within walking distance of restaurants.
Great museum, great hosts, 5 stars i would give, if gift shop had a few more things at a more reasonable price. great time and very informative!
What a beautiful historical site and lots of information. Everyone was very nice
Had a lot of neat artifacts, people working were very knowledgeable and learned a lot about local history. Kids thought it was neat too
This museum has gotten better each year. It is worth a visit.
Loved the history lesson on lighthouses of lake michigan and all the shipwrecks that have happened in like michigan
Great coffee and service top notch
Ive traveled from Grand Rapids 3 times to see this museum and every time it has been unexpectedly closed.
Cool place to go if you want to find out more information on the surrounding area definitely recommend if youre in the area and have nothing else to do
Nice people, nice place. Only one of its kind in the area. Stop by to learn about local history and see the way lighthouse keepers used to live on the precipice of raging Lady Michigan.
Limited open time, missed it by 2 hours
Great Staff, very informative. Worth seeing
We were there on a slower day. Everything was great and enjoyable.
Nice little museum choosing a good piece of Great Lakes history
Very cool things in there! Nice history collection of Michigan City.
A historic treasure trove, the docents were very informative and friendly

Looks Awesome!
Nice ladies with lots of information, good historical visit.
Awesome little place with lots of history and relics.
The Old Lighthouse Museum had a wealth of historical displays and artifacts from the area. If you are new to the area or long time resident this is a most stop for everyone.
Historical light house and history of this lighthouse was amazing
Great place. Very educational
Nice place to visit and very educational with the local history.
Fun quaint local museum. They had some random stuff that you would never see in a large metropolitan museum.
Great place to come see very cool place for kids and Adults
Had a lovely peaceful time at the beach .Clean nice beach would love to go back and spend more time
I love History and old architecture and this both.
The museum and Eastland Disaster Memorial are terrific, but the visit was spectacular thanks to President and historian, Jim Retseck.
Charming and informative museum featuring local history and artifacts. Very family friendly too.
Sea rocket was awesome
Pretty cool place to check out. Petty small. Doesnt take too long to check out.
Lots of history to be learned. A must place to visit when in Michigan City.
Knowledgeable and friendly docents. Unique collection and museum. Deserves a visit. Read the signs and displays on the grounds as well. My family and I visited the museum twice (vists were years apart) with the same experience. I dont understand the comments of the previous reviewer, other than poorly behaved children endangering the exhibits. Furthermore, I dont understand how a parent could allow their unaccompanied children to wander through a museum. There was even an extremely rare map on the wall I enquired about, and they tried to locate a copy for me to buy at the gift shop.
Great little tour
It was okay, not really much though.
It was amazing!
Finally got into this tiny museum run by the local historical society. Well done.
Really cool historic museum!
Great place to visit
Beautiful place
It closed at 4 pm why?
Only got to see the outside. It was closed
Got there at 3.25pm to be told i couldn’t look around as they were closing at 3.30!
Actually I used their electric vehicle charge point. It was late at night and the museum was closed
Guide was very knowledgeable and place was very clean!
Very interesting historical place
