I really enjoy the park! I was a little big for us to walk the whole thing so we did not get to explore it all but we came here so my kids could enjoy the playground and boy they sure did!. They had a rock slide which was just super fun. The only reason why I will not give it 5 is on our way to bus the neighbor was fill with drug dealers and homeless. They were other tourist around but just watch yourself around this part of town.
This is one of those things that you do as an adult that makes you forget you are an adult and instantly transforms you into a 5 year old child, (in all the right ways). I so wish I would have met the witch but alas, I did not. It would have been my sole responsibility for that day to make her smile. perhaps next time? :) Its a quick ride, but so different than anything Ive done in ages that it makes for a really good story. Watch your head though, the slide on the right likes to make the flight a little difficult :)
Awesome place to visit with your dog or without a dog and you love watching dogs interact and run around having fun. Large open space. Absolutely love how you can choose your distance with the way you decide to walk. Nice downhil in the sand to get you by the water. Every time Ive been there people have been very nice and its a calm mellow feel. I would definitely recommend a visit to this park. Its even kept fairly clean! :-)
My favourite hidden spot to be. Always quite, always clean park in coconut grove. Plus, next to the park is a little library house. Where you can find nice books to read.
Beautiful example of the native Miami vegetation as you wind your way to the house. The importance of the historical site, the first house of Miami Dade is well explained.
Is not a big park, but it is so relaxing. I highly recommend going!
Sunday, biblically speaking is a day of rest. A pleasant walk throughout The Barnacle Historic Park and on such a lovely day, the sun is beaming warmly on the skin as a cool northeasterly wind guides our steps of tranquility, peace, meditation and love. It is the perfect time for gentle quiet between two souls which is cherished amongst the natural setting made by the Almighty, Omega. The beginning and the end.The one in which all things are possible.
If I were to create a. Plan for the perfect San Francisco date, it would include these slides. It was so much fun! Not just for our son, but mom and dad too!
The Barnacle Historic State Park is a good place that you can go and enjoyed. Since the first moment that you walk in you can feel the peace and freshest of the place. Even though there is no air condition inside the house you can enjoy your visits. It’s one of the older houses in the city. I really recommend this place.
Nice location packed with people and pups even on a Tuesday morning. I enjoyed the views while my pup enjoyed all the company. Definitely a great place to hang out with your dog!
So much to see and do in this area. Great views, great beaches. There are a few areas to park alongside the mountain, but the trick is after parking to hike further to avoid the crowds.
This park is a perfect little taste of Florida. Feels so peaceful and serene. I have come in the rain and shine to take a walk and escape the hustle and bustle of Coconut Grove. I love the water and mangroves. Great seating options too.
The grounds of the park are really lovely, situated right on the water. It should be noted that there is no parking onsite, all parking is metered in the street and there is only a pedestrian entrance. While the $2 entrance fee covers the grounds, it does not include entrance into the house which can only be seen on guided tours offered several times a day for an additional cost.
Nice short stroll and some interesting history about the Grove. You can sit on the grass to enjoy the water and breeze. Good for young toddlers and some space to run around
Nice place to visit when in Coconut Grove, but... there is no the mangrove forest as described in tourist guides: just a few trees with difficult access through wet soil. The old building you can see only from outside. The park is full of tropical plants, but I expected mangrove forest, thats why 4 stars
Nice place to walk and see nature right in the heart of Coconut Grove.
Its a petite park thats right in the middle of Coconut Grove. We usually go early in the morning and the park ranger is always up and about making sure everything is just right. If you go for a walk, jog or even breakfast on Main, its a good place to stop by. A small slice of old Florida at its best.
This is a tiny strip of land in Coconut Grove from the main highway to the Bay. there is interesting history regarding the Pioneers in the area and preserved Flora showing what the coastline originally was like before everything was chopped down. In that way it is very interesting. it only takes about 30 minutes to walk the park. There is a house that is not currently open for tours. A nice peaceful place. Parking in on any side street.
This place is very cool. A small fee and you can experience this little historic park. You can walk all the way up to the water. There are chairs set up to lounge in. And a sheltered area for shade. This place also has events and shows. You can get a cheaper price to the events if you are a member.
Interesting little historic park nestled along the trendy food joints in Coconut Grove.
Cool place in the heart of coconut Grove nice place to take a stroll
Great place to relax, bird watch, hike a trail. Ideal for events, and check out their calendar of events.
Nice park great information about how coconut grove started.
My experience at The Barnacle was a really relaxing one. Since the moment you start walking to Monroes House you enjoy the environment with the trees. its like an oasis in the middle of the city.
Nice walk through the hammocks to the water. I appreciate the effort the state is making to preserve some of the waterfront land from developers. I would go more often but paying $2 each time is a bit much for someone who lives down the street.
The walking path is beautiful and takes you back 120 years at least. The Barnacle is a gem and represents the real Coconut Grove. I remember in the late 1980s when there were no condos around and it felt magical. Some of that, although it is now a tiny sliver of land leading to the sea still exists. The area around the house is a mess. There is old furniture, racks of clothes and crates of junk all round the front of the house to the side of the entrance. To get a tour you have to go to another outbuilding and see if someone is there to give you a tour. Dont expect a guide at the front at the designated tour times. You have to go to the gift shop, which is hidden in another building to the side of the main house and look for someone. Old boats and equipment were all over the grounds in various states of disrepair. Such a Florida treasure should be cherished and taken better care of. Seems like the structure is well preserved, painted and such but please clean up!
I worked here for about a year while employed with this state agency and I must say I love this park. It is truly a hidden a gem. From the street you would never know what this place has to offer. As you are driving/walking into the venue you are surrounded by trees and possible think that its more a nature walk park until it opens up.The house on the property has so much history! Take a tour and learn all about it. The massive lawn area is home to a lot of events. Definitely stay abreast of those. They even have kid friendly events. They host weddings and can host many special events with some vendor restrictions. But the good thing is they have a list of vendors that meet their requirements. So if you are in the coral gables area, check them out. Even if its just for a stroll through the park! You wont be sorry!
I love it! Nice place. Quiet and beautiful.
Step back in time when you visit this little treasure, upon arriving you will walk thru a natural south Florida hammock which transports you to the home of one of the first settlers in Coconut Grove the setting is picturesque set on Biscayne Bay and all of this for a donation of $3.00 check for their events at sunset you will fall in Love!
Nice walk after a great breakfast.
At the end of a pleasant winding path through a small piece of Florida wilderness. The tour of the actual house has a fee but you can wander gorgeous, natural-feeling grounds for almost nothing. Drop a donation into a collection box just before reaching the grounds (no one is watching if you dont).
Nice little walk in the few remaining Miami hammocks. Little signs tell you about the plants and historic buildings. Every weekend evening they have events, movies, folk bands (mostly) etc. Ive been to see a few bands and they sell food, beer, and wine. Bring your blanket and picnic basket and sit on the lawn. Its on Main Highway by all the restaurants and shops. Parkings a problem unless you want to pay. Well worth a visit while your in The Grove.
I was just walking down Coconut Grove looking for a restaurant and I seen a huge sign walked up to it and seeing that it was the Barnacle house very interesting read then decided to walk in what a beautiful experience I would suggest leaving the notification so that you get history about the property that you are on absolutely wonderful me and my sister definitely enjoyed it would recommend this to anybody fun free time open to the public please respect
Beautiful ocean view little hidden gem!!!
This is the oldest house in Coconut Grove and now a state park. Take the tour of the house or just walk around the grounds. Entrance is donation based so its free or just a couple bucks. Worth checking out if youre in the area.
Pretty. Not much to do but it allows pleasant walks. Close to the shore, the mangrove can get overwhelming bad smells though.
Nice little walk. Pretty views
This is a delightful break from the hectic life in Miami! Its a must if youre visiting Coconut Grove. The path that leads to the old residence is beautiful and serene! To take a minute and sit on the front porch and look at the water is a Priceless Experience!
I really recommend this place park, if you want to have a good experience as a visitor, come to this place. It is a unique destination in the heart of coconut grove surrounded by nature and an interesting story behind it. I think is funny how many times I have been in that area but never heard of this place or was even aware of its existence. It is difficult to imagine that something that beautiful and with an important history was there. A really nice lady which last name I remember perfectly, Cabral was the one that meets us and the one that started giving us the tour. She was an exceptional Tour Guide, she was dynamic and didactic and had that energy that was instantly transmitted into me. Thank you so much for the amazing experience.
Love this house. unfortunately we were not able to tour the house. There were draperies all over masking the house for a theatrical performance. Came a long way to see it.
Beautiful Park !!!!the Barnacle is one of the oldest houses with its original foundation in the Miami area. As you walk into this historic site you are surrounded by forest with a trail through the hammock. It is a great place to enjoy peace and silence watching the boats go by, have a picnic on the lawn or even go on a walk through the trails. It has been a great experience and a great place to visit because you learn the great history and how well it has been preserved even a century later.
Walked the path and visited the homes and wine cellar. Also, got to sit and relax by the inlet as we watches the fish swim. Great view of bay.
This is a beautiful public park and a great get away to sit outside and have a picnic. They also have many well directed events.
A delightful little enclave near Coconut Grove. Only two dollars for a visit and you can tour the house at certain times. It doesnt take long to walk around but its worth a look. Grab some breakfast in nearby diners and go for a stroll.
Shiny hand made fishes in Barnacle Park
Very nice. Never imagined this was back off the street. Worth a visit if ur in the neighborhood
Such a beautiful, meditative spot. Great for journaling or serenely looking out over the water. Theres a good breeze and shady places to sit. It can get extremely warm at the height of summer, but if one sticks to the shade its doable.
Lovely park so much history in our backyard.
Old town house with 2 floor
The Barnacle Historic Park is a place that could make you feel like if you are outside of your actual life. The wooden boat shape of the museum transports your mind from the present to the Miamis past, so you can see yourself living in those back times. The Barnacle museum exceeded all my expectations and changed my point of view about how interesting and impressive visiting museums could be. All the students should have the opportunity to visit and explore those interesting sites and feel the benefit and satisfaction of having classes outside.
When we got to the park, they had actives for movies. There were bunch of families and pop corn served as well. Its the historical place, you still can read the history of the building . We will come back during the daytime.
Loved it great view to the Bay very peaceful place
A unique destination in the heart of Coconut Grove. Many locals dont even know that it exists. Theres a nominal entrance fee thats based on the honor system but its definitely worth the few dollars. Its a short stroll to the bay and a trip back in time. I would definitely make time to visit this historic site. It only takes about an hour or two to enjoy the entire site and definitely worth the time if youre in the area.
It was an amazing experience because we learned the history of the Barnacle. We could see the beautiful beach in front of the house. The woman that explained the history did such a great job, but I had a hard time understanding her at times because she spoke too fast. It is a relaxing place, and we enjoyed the experience.
Accessible, peaceful walk away from the city. I also love their movie nights.
I had this place bookmarked and we went this weekend. This is a beautiful place, to enjoy the walking trail, breath in the pure air and get amazed by the bay view at the end.Thank you!!
Delightful. We saw Shakespeares Broadway MACBETH LIVE! it was wonderful.
Fantastic little park. Important piece of local history that is also a nice little oasis in the neighborhood.
One of my Favorite parks in Coconut Grove Miami. You can bring your dogs. They often have community events such as movie night in the park. Great place for hosting weddings and special occasions. Mostly open on the weekends check listings for special hours.
It is a great spot to disconnect of the world. It is small but naturally beautiful.
A nice park to walk around but I don’t think it’s worth the 2 dollar fee they charge you to visit it. It has a nice view of the bay, though.
Its an alright place to learn stuff about Floridas history
The Barnacle Historic State Park is a beautiful and peaceful green place the middle of the city. I never knew that inside there was treasured the history of Miami. Highly recommended. Kids Friendly.
The Barnacle Park is a historic place with an excellent location plenty of antic objects. I recommend this place because is good to visit in family and is a quiet place, just that you need to be away from the stress of the city. I strongly recommend it.
It is a nice and relaxing place to go and enjoy. Also you can go and take beautiful pictures for an special moments. Be prepared for mosquitoes and very warm weather.
I invited you guys to visit this amazing place! You gonna learn about the history of the house and the family who lived there. You will also love contact with nature and a beautiful view.
Beautiful place! Love going there to relax or when they have festivals.
Its a charming, quaint park in the lively streets of Coco Grove, although its a bit underwhelming in size. They hold small festivals at the end of the trail which makes for a nice outing.
I visited History Miami Museum with my classmates from my English class and I felt so welcome. I didnt like when intern girls supposed to help with the presentation. They just were talking in a corner while the guides were speaking; nonetheless the guides were amazing
Calm and chill place to spend a sunday
Its one of several little nature areas in the heart of coconut grove.
Awfully small and with an entry fee, the Barnacle is a historic locale and is incredibly well kept. If you have the time and will do some reading its a nice stop- probably not too fun with kids or if you have a steep time budget.
Although there was no air conditioning, it was very cool. The tour guide was very patient and her commentary is very good. The Barnacle is a very exceptional architecture.
AWESOME !!!. I will recommend it. The view is amazing . I enjoy the place a lot . If you like nature these one of the best place to appreciate it . In the other hand, be prepare to wear comfortable shoes because I had to walk a lot . Also, do not forget put in your backpack water and some mosquito repellents . But at the end of the day, it was a good experience. The historic of the place I love it . I do not have any Idea. The guide tour was BOM BOM .She really did a amazing job. She transported me to the place centuries ago. She has a perfect presentation. It seems that she is passionate for the place. In general, perfect way to go
It is a really good place to learn something new about Miamis history. Service and the way that tell the history is amazing. I recommend to visit it
Beautiful place with a unique architecture . It does not have air conditioning, so you must have your own hand fan. A great experience with my classmates.
Fantastic spot to see what the original Miami Hammock looked like before development
Tha original Florida!
Beautiful place for a walk.
This place was really impressive. Buy the tour, its worth it.
A hammock and beautiful walkway leading to old Florida historic buildings.
Right between the restaurant and the ocean. We had lovely outing with our granddaughter. Big and interesting trees giving us much needed shade.
Cool little place, lots of little history lessons here. Its only 2.00, and opens into a nice greenery, with chairs and couches to lounge on. Just a few steps away, and youre right at the waters edge.
Fascinating place hidden in the forest. Perfect for a relaxing walk.
Peaceful secluded sanctuary within the busy metropolitan of coconut grove
Awfully small and with an entry fee, the Barnacle is a historic locale and is incredibly well kept. If you have the time and will do some reading its a nice stop- probably not too fun with kids or if you have a steep time budget.
I think that was an incredible experience because the place has a lot of interesting history and allows you to increase your knowledge, it has very nice places and the attention is magnificent, I recommend you visit the place.
Great place, a wonderful experience, I totally recommend it. Plenty of vegetation in the middle of Coconut Groves
Beautiful, charming park on the water. Great for little kids.
The Barnacle is a historic home built in 1891. It was home to Ralph Middleton Munroe, one of Coconut Groves most influential pioneers. The home offers a glimpse of life, when all travel to and from Miami was by boat. Munroe sought to preserve the forest on his land, and cut out a small trail through the hammock, barely wide enough for one vehicle. Today, the property contains many large, old trees. The home is left in its natural state, and appears much as it did in Munroes days. The Barnacle is a great place to enjoy a picnic on the lawn, a tour through the hammocks, rocking in the chairs in the front porch, or a family night at one of their shows. Watch the sailboats go by and take a picnic basket. This site is definitely for the history buffs and peace and quiet seekers. I come here with my boyfriend and roam around. It is very peaceful. We take a blanket with some food and some wine and just chill while taking photos of the historic home. Cute getaway.
What an amazing time in a beautiful part of old Florida
Beautiful little park. No beach, boat dock or swimming area, but the grass is nicely manicured and there is a very nice sized pavillion in the middle of the park to escape the sun and rain. Nobody was fishing. The very minimal fee for the house tour is absolutely worth the price. The park rangers clearly cherish their park and provide an extensive history dating back to the very beginning of the areas settlement when there were foot paths instead of roads. The information is so interesting that you fail to realize you are immersed in an extensive history lesson. The boat house was closed and is actually not the original due to hurricane damage.A previous response mentioned a gift shop, but I completely missed that part of the experience. Im guessing it is in one of the period appropriate buildings off to the left just as you emerge from the winding cement footpath and enter the park proper. I did not see any bbq pits or picnic tables so bring a lunch basket, beverages and a nice sized picnic blanket. There are a few trees for shade as well and plenty of room to throw a frisbee.Be sure to check the park calendar or call the rangers for any interesting special events being held there as well...and probably have free admission. It seems obvious that the park is set up for events by virtue of having that very large sturdy pavilion in the center. What makes this park even more special is that it is not clearly visible from the road and not well publicized so even when there is an event, the park is never overrun with people and the visitors that do come are calm and respectful. I promise you a delightful experience as evidenced by two youthful European travelers, just off a cruise ship who were so delighted with their rental bicycle adventure and discovery of the park that they exclaimed to anyone who would listen that the park adventure was far better than any of the off ship outings they had to pay for!
Very nice park only $2 entrance fee but parking was a lot more. Its also very small, you can probably spend about an 1 hour there. Tours were suspended our visit there.
