To visit the National Civil Rights Museum located in old Lorraine Motel in Memphis is a powerful educational experience. After all, it was here, right outside room 306, that perhaps the most iconic figure of the civil rights movement was assassinated in 1968.Today the motel houses an excellent museum dedicated to different exhibits featuring different civil rights issues. Highlighting ever important topics in the continual struggle for dignity and equality, a stop at the old Lorraine Motel should be a must for every vistor to Memphis

It was great and eerie to visit the Lorraine Motel. The motel where Martin Luther King spent his last hours and minutes. Its a great piece of history that is still standing. There are stands outside the hotel that have videos of black history. Its worth visiting. Parking is free too!

Boycott! This is gentrification of our legacy. There are no benefits to the community. Offended in so many ways. The admission prices seem to be based on the security. They charged all the veterans in our party of 14 military family. If there was community outreach & free to students it could function as a true historical marker..Right now it’s just a privatized money maker

The cost for the memorable experience is spot on!! My 7yr old grdson did research about the historic story of the Lorraine Motel & Dr. King. He went to Memphis from Houston for a fashion show he was in at Peringnons, but his excitement of being able to see 1st hand the National Civil Rights Museum was his focus. All the details he researched, he was able to see and experience 1st hand & so much more. The Covid19 safety guidelines were in place fully, a thorough security check of personal belongings and person is done for safety!! The entire staff we met were friendly, professional and knowledgeable about the museum and very courteous to guest. A MUST DO if you make it to Memphis. I suggest you purchase tkts online like we did and do the scheduled tour so you dont have to wait in line.

Every American needs to visit The Lorraine Motel. The rich history displayed in all the exhibits will be etched in your mind and heart forever. Viewing the last room Dr Martin Luther King Jr was in stirred my soul. Standing on the same balcony bought tears to my eyes. Put this on your bucket list. No matter your race, our history comes to life when you walk through the halls of this museum.

After speaking with a Jacqueline Smith who has been there daily for 32 years. I understand that this is not a great way to continue Dr. Kings legacy. It is not black owned. And is a big waste of space that could be used to further his legacy. Where does the money go? Not to blacks and not to the KiNGs. Intresting.

It was truly incredible to stand that close to history!!! We walked down mainstreet from our room toward the Lorraine with that in mind but standing there was overwhelming. Knowing that you stood in essentially a time capsule enshrined to a brilliant mind and a person who was unafraid of the potential consequences of doing what was right.

Nice preservation of the actual motel from the outside and known location of the exact spot Dr.King perished. Inside snakes you throughout black history from the Slavery era to current times. Before youre filtered through the gift shop you are shuffled past room 306 which has been staged/preserved just as it was back then. You also have the opportunity to view the room in the Boarding house that the shooter used to aim at Dr.King which lies directly across the street. There is more to read than there is actually to see which is very overwhelming because the place can get super crowded. I found the National Civil Rights Museum in Cincinnati had more exhibits/artifacts to see and was better managed with crowd control. Active duty military gain free entrance into the Museum here.
