I felt totally different n enjoyed the suroundings walking on the boardwalk
Amazing national park, leading you through all kinds of areas in the Louisiana Bayou. I can recommend the boardwalk through the swamps, we had a good chance to see alligators (make sure youre going there on a sunny day). The ranger is very friendly and talkative, providing you with all kinds of information about the are area, geology and biology of the Louisiana swamps and the Mississippi River. She also gives you the perfect trail advices. Absolutely worth a visit!
This place is awesome to see alligators, snakes and birds and it’s to easy to find them everywhere. It’s a peaceful, natural and fun preserve to go with the family.
Enjoyed experiencing the Louisiana swamp flora and fauna. The boardwalk is a nice way to see the park, mostly shaded so even on a hot August morning it was a tolerable stroll. Wish I had a fan to swat at the pesky flies.
I wanted to do a ranger walk on Saturday morning, but arrived late. Luckily there were no early birds, and the park ranger still gave us the tour! Lovely park minus those darn mosquitoes, but still worth it. We got to see some gators and learn about the topology amongst other things.
Cool hike in the swamp land, you’ll see a lot of cool things if you stop and pay attention, but bring mesquite spray! I usually wear jeans and a thin rain jacket to keep them from biting, unless it’s too hot. About a 45 min walk round trip if you keep a pace.
Such a beautiful place to visit. We were able to see lots of snakes and big alligators up close. Keep your camera ready and kids close
Only did the short trail and still saw 4 snakes and 3 Alligators, up close too. Its really beautiful out there.
Great Place for a Hike
Barataria Preserve is a unit of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve south of New Orleans. There are several miles of trails leading through the preserve with great opportunities for wildlife viewing. I saw many alligators, two raccoons, an otter, a great egret, and a little skink. Please do not feed any wildlife, especially the gators. The swamps, marshes, and canals are just beautiful with many of the trees draped in Spanish moss. Its a great spot to get away from the crowds and noise of New Orleans and enjoy the beauty of nature. I visited in early March before the bugs were too pesky. If you visit later in the year, make sure to use plenty of bug spray as I imagine it could be a war zone here with the mosquitoes.
I didnt go to this place someone is using my identity
Bring bug spray.
A favorite!!!
Beautiful trail. But the main trail was closed which was a bummer
