Fantastic landmark. Super cool spot and a go to for anyone who visits marquette.
So iconic and beautiful. Lived there 40 years ago and its still the same.
A wonderful attraction, no longer functioning, but almost looks like a monument.
Do not listen to Ryan Hoger who is obviously a Russian troll attempting to dissuade the American tourism trade. The ore dock is cool is not a leftover from a forgot time because there is a new one by Presque Isle that is obviously still in use. It would be cool to see the City turn the old ore dock into something cool though like a market or even just pave a path into it so people can walk inside.
Loved to see the iron ore loaded on the big freighter.
Beautiful place to stop for pictures.
Amazing! Great Fish Market down there!
Nice location to sit and enjoy an early morning breakfast.
Joe Pera talked to me about this place.
We travel all over the country and love visiting historic sites. Iron ore was a big part of Marquette’s beginnings, and fundamental to the economy of the Great Lakes region. I’m glad this structure still stands to remind us of that. There are beautiful parks and trails around it. We loved it.
The Ore Dock is one of the things that make Marquette so beautiful and entertaining. Its a great piece of history that subtly provides a glimpse into the history that helped to make this town.
Fancy Spider is totally correct. I have it on good information that Ryan Hoger is the pseudonym of Maria Butina. He (or she) is trying to sow discord between pro and anti-Ore Dock factions of the American public. If we cant put aside our differences and recognize that this doesnt need to be a park, then we might as well start drinking Stoli Vodka and voting for Comrade Putin in the next election.
A beautiful place to stop and enjoy the view and the history. We had the great fortune of seeing the dock that is still in use being used! We watched as a ship docked and was taking on taconite, a type of iron ore. Special thanks to the fellow who works at the museum and also enjoying the event and was able able to give us some amazing details about the whole process. The particular ship we saw was one of only a few left still being used that had been built during WW2.
Cool thing to see
ASo beautiful
Very cool and easy to get to and view
Interesting look into history and Marquette is stunning.
Beautiful. Loved the architectural design.
I so very much want to see this go through an adaptive reuse. I absolutely love this landmark and hope it gets the care it deserves for future generations to enjoy
Checked out how they operated. I was lucky to fi d out someone that had a dad that worked at this site. This is a non working site. But there is another location that is functional not far from this location
Great park area with parking, lighting at night, and picnic tables. We visited in hopes of some great long exposure shots of the old ore dock, which we got. Returned a few days later in the morning to sit and enjoy coffee and breakfast.
Very unusual structure, didnt know what it was until just now.
Great engineering from the past.
Beautiful
Interesting site to visit
Cool piece of history!
How many towns have an ORE DOCK!?! Thats what I thought. +1 for Marquettes iconic industrial leftover, inspiring generations to think outside the box as to what is beautiful.
Very cool looking! Still trying to figure out how it works. I know the doors lower and shut. Not certain about the rest.
Historic scenery.
Beautiful!
