Closed for renovations...this is a serene place to sit and view the ocean and harbor.
We walked to Fort Sewall, surprisingly, given the bright day at Gas House Beach and indeed in the town, Fort Sewall and the bay was shrouded in sea fog. Though this gave a chance to do some shots of foggy scenes which was good. The fog was light and quite high, nowhere near as deep and dismal as the fogs we have encountered along the Oregon Coast.Fort Sewall was founded in 1644 one of the earliest fortifications the British made in North America. They were defending the bay and harbour from French ships attempting to disrupt the fleet. Later the site was used by the USA to successfully defend against the British when they attacked from British North America (now called Canada) in the war of 1812.Fort Sewall is directly across the neck of the bay from the Lighthouse we visited yesterday. Though you could barely see it for the fog it made the whole bay seem mysterious.
Beautiful view from mouth of Marblehead harbor, you can see over to Chandler Hovey Park w the lighthouse, and Little Harbor as well as lots of neighboring islands, Childrens, Browns, Bakers, to name a few. Old Fort from Revolutionary days. Lots of shade and benches to sit on a summers day or path to stroll around and take in the view. Another great place for a picnic. Best time to go - weekend after 4th of July when revolutionary re-enactors come from all over to dress up and take us back to days of yore from pitching tents, to cooking, sewing, iron smith, all kinds of chores and even the signing of documents to join the war! Lots of stories and lessons to be learned. Also, reenactments of battles by Glovers regiment! Fun for all ages!
Its a small quick walk, but views were spectacular. Well worth it. Parking is probably challenging in the summer.
Historic Landmark on the Sea. Perfect!
One of many great places to relax. Plenty of park benches perched over a tall cliff above the Atlantic Ocean. Easy parking. Great dog walk. Have a cigar ready!
You have to really be knowledge about colonial forts to appreciate this place. It would take an enormous amount of money to recreate the original footprint but I believe it would be worth it. It is a national treasure, especially for the war of 1812 and with a visit.
Fort sewall was beautiful! I highly recommend visiting if you are in the area.
Great history and vista, one must visit this place
Love this place Ive been there multiple times
This was a neat historical location with great views, places to sit and relax. There are restrooms here too.
Fantastic view of the harbor. Great place to take young children. They think its a pirate fort.
You can get some good scenic photos here if thats what youre after traveling in the area.
A nice walk to a Fort Sewall. There are great views and a couple plaques explaining what it is. It was nice for a visit and neat to see.
A quiet and peaceful historical sight.
Nice place, beautiful views. Will be awesome if restored!
Nice family walk, but kind of complicate with a stroller (need to use stairs to get on top to see a nice view) Good views. Interesting historical point
Great views year round. Parking is limited but usually available.
Parking can definitely be an issue but its a great place to go in the early morning.
Great place to learn about local history and the revolutionary eat.
Amazing views! Lovely New England village weaved among a very friendly local hospitality...
Not much of a destination in itself, but worth a detour if you are already in downtown Marblehead.
Amazing views, great place for a romantic walk, family walk, walking a friendly dog. Prefect spot for a family picture!
Beautiful views, lovely park with lots of benches to sit and watch the ocean. The fort has some history, though some of it is a little laughable: its best claim to fame is that it once (during the war of 1812) defended the USS Constitute, thereby forming a special bond with the ship. This special bond was manifested by the ship visiting Marblehead twice in over a century (both times during campaigns to raise funds for restoration).
Its situated in the delightfully historic town of Marblehead.
Beautiful views with lots of benches and free binoculars.
Beautiful area and very clean. Lots of history in that town
Beautifully preserved. Awesome views of the ocean
Just a beautiful place to watch the ocean
This is a terrific place to go for viewing meteor showers! There is a very minimal amount of lights in the area. One must use caution and wear comfortable, sturdy sneakers or non-skid soles. Insect repellent may be in order during yhe summer months, too. A hand held flashlight is a must, because while paved, the walkways can be uneven or imperfect in areas where it is nearly impossible to see at night, in certain parts of the park. There are grassy areas and benches which encircle an area leading to rocks that lead to the ocean. It is a fairly placid, protected part of Marblehead Harbor. Fort Sewall is an historical landmark but because it is surrounded by many residences, one must be respectful of this and stay quiet overnight while stargazing. It is a terrifically dark spot for viewing meteor in as thickly settled a residential area as one could ever imagine being possible! A good flashlight and common sense is about all you need other than clear skies! Happy Viewing!
Gorgeous views looking out to sea and of Marblehead Harbor. Lots of interesting history at the Fort.
Closed to public for construction
Awesome views
Very nice place.
Among the best views Marblehead had to offer. This historic stronghold is a must see when visiting town.
Interesting site
Nice quiet place.
Great little interesting, quiet park. It has bathrooms. Theres lots of benches with a decent amount of trees for shade. Really nice view of the harbor, free mounted binoculars. Interesting fort, you can see the old, old furnishings through the barred windows. The USS Constitution was saved from capture by the British because of the actions of soldiers here.
Wonderful and important 17th century fort. Small, easy walk and free.
Really cool historical area
Just a plain small historic fortress with no embellishments in a spectacular seaside cliff environment. Limited parking, easy walk from bus stop and State st.
Cute area to have a picnic

Great spot to explore some history and enjoy the view.
A quick walk jaunt through history and a reminder about how important New England was to our seafaring economy during the colonial and industrial revolution eras.
Great historic spot with stunning views of the harbor.
One of a kind gem, historical, beautiful, not crowded - very relaxing
Historic area with an incredible view. Great place to take children for a day trip
Such a lovely and truly beautiful place to see at sunrise! This area offers a breathtaking view over the Atlantic that is well worth bundling up for and taking your hot tea or coffee to go just to catch an early winters glimpse of this historic fort as the morning seems to stir the ever-so-friendly locals from their amazing and beautiful 18th and 19th century homes that surround it... we may return someday in the spring or summer. I can only imagine how beautiful Marblehead and its attractions must be at those times of year!
Great little park to take a stroll and look out over the harbour.
Great views and also a great place to learn some history.
