Outstanding. Trails were well maintained, flora/fauna labeled, Golden Orb Spiders...abundant. Yes, the fish pedicure was also great..and odd. Price was manageable and the staff was friendly. We passed probably 15 groups during our 3 hours...everyone was masked and/distancing. Price for admission was manageable and felt like we got our moneys worth...even saw a friendly octopus (not an attraction...he was just hanging out in the water near sunset point).
Out of the past. Wonderful nature trails. A must experience for all nature lovers. Beautiful birds, trees, flowers and history. Highly recommended
Beautiful park. Very well maintained and clean. Tons of butterflies when I was there, full vegetation, plenty of animals to see.
Beautiful place for an entertained walk . The place has many activities more also. Children can learn about the pioneers life and respect the nature.
A place for the family. Enjoy a walk through the mangroves, enjoy the butterflies, or soak in the fish pedi. And the view is great the whole walk. Great history and nature everywhere
Loved this quiet place tucked away from throngs of tourists. The grounds are really pretty, offering educational signs about the wide variety of flora and fauna, historical buildings, plus a butterfly garden and bird rehab.
This place is awesome! Nice walking trails with lots of wildlife. Cool old buildings with history information along the path. Great views on the water once you make it to the end of the trail.
Beautiful 65 acres of the old keys. History lesson, 1.5 miles of walking paths, beautiful scenery, bird sanctuary, and couldnt ask a better way to see old keys.
Best place to visit in the Keys. True Florida natural area with walking trails and a museum, a bird sanctuary, a historic black site (Adderly House), access to tidal pool. Great for Plein air painting. DOG FRIENDLY TOURIST SITE!! Locals can buy a walking membership and walk their dogs a hour before the Hammock opens to public.
Nice little stop in Marathon l, I will say this get here early and beat the crowd and heat. The staff was very friendly and the trails are well groomed, we didnt see a ton of wildlife but we we did enjoy our visit, the view from the northern point overlooking the water is beautiful. If you like local history and wildlife than this us a good quick stop for you, we probably stated about 2 hours total.
Really nice private hiking area in Marathon, Florida. Multiple acres to explore. There is a butterfly garden, a bird sanctuary, and a boardwalk that goes right to the shore. The whole trail is only 1.5 miles long, but it packs a ton of stuff in that 1.5 miles. The cost is a little pricey (especially when compared to Biscayne Nation Park (which is free) or many of the state parks (which have a nominal fee). But, the money goes to a really good cause. We spent about 3 hours there and pretty much saw everything they had to offer. Definitely recommend it!
This was perhaps my favorite experience on Marathon. Very small-town, family oriented feel. No gimmicky touristy stuff here. So many little things to see and do. We took the golf cart tour with Craig. He was fantastic and told us so much! We had two moms and 6 kids. Everything we learned about the history of Crane Point and the local vegetation was fascinating. The kids loved the fish pedicures the best of course. I also thought the price wasnt too horrible for what you got to do.
Fascinating and important historical and natural preserve. Allow 3 hours to walk the nature/history education trail to the point, enjoy the views, read the explanatory signs, study the wildlife and unusual low hammock ecosystems and learn about some of the local history and preservation work. After the walk through the solar system (notice the planet signs at proportional distances by the trail), youll finish with the small but very well done museum and gift shop.
A wonderful preservation park of rare, unique and endangered plants and habitats. Preservation and awareness of their importance to diversity for a resilient environment is critical to a complex interrelated web of creatures supporting economies from tourism, fishing, protection from hurricanes. Not to mention a fine place for hiking, cultural heritage, kids can enjoy and learn, a very nice gift shop with great books for kids about the natural environment.
Had to kill some time before my flight out since my family left in morning. Stopped in here and so glad I did. Managed to time it right for a tour (which was included in price). Loved our guide Jimmy Dean! He was extremely knowledgeable. Learned so much about geology, botany and history of the area. Got some amazing pictures on my other camera.
Gorgeous! Love the trails and the point is heaven.
Loved this place. Cant wait to go back.
This place is amazing! You learn about the first settler in the Keys, walk around an amazing nature reserve. Highly recommended!
For those who enjoy visiting this kind of nature Center this one is right up there with the best. Due to our limited time, we were not able to get any of the guided tours. But introductory video program, and adequate signage kept our interest.
We thoroughly enjoyed the Crane Point museum and nature center. Kids would also love the tours and we were fortunate enough to have a wonderful guide. The tour is approximately an hour or so.
This is a protected treasure on the key of Marathon. The Crane family truly understood the beauty of this tropical area and protected it for future generations. The foundation has done a beautiful job with the museum the grounds, trails and waterfront area. It was nice to have a guided trolley tour through the park. I learned a lot about the vegetation and fresh to saltwater ponds. Bill, our trolley tour guide, is a volunteer. A Navy veteran who clearly loves this part of Florida. The waters edge over looking the bay had spectacular views. Don’t forget a few quarters to feed the parrot fish. Among the forest is a bird rescue sanctuary. It was nice to see these birds well taken care of and released if possible. It was interesting to see the 1950s era Crane home. Although it is unsafe to inhabit at this time. And having an understanding of the original habitats of this island by seeing the Adderly house was also interesting. The trails are easily walked, but the trolley offers information you may miss if setting out on your own. It was well worth the $14 to get in. I will look forward to seeing how they enhance the experience in years to come.
I frequent the land when Im in the local area. The history of the Bahamian that bought the land back in the day. His life is very intriguing, if you want real history of the area. Definitely check this place out. 63 acres of untouched tropical hammocks to explore. Theres mariad of wildlife. Chill spots to relax and rest off the trails on your way. At the ocean front. You dont hear vehicles or people its so relaxing. And theres a cool spot in the back of the land you can sit with your feet in the water and little fish by the hundreds come and will clean your feet. Its weird and cool experience. Its a must see place so check it out if youre in the area. They have geocaches there as well.
Lovely place! They have few nice walking trails, a bird sanctuary and a little museum. Great for families!
The hammock was absolutely lovely to walk through! Fun way to spend a couple of hours. Museum and houses were interesting and the views are spectacular!
Great place to learn about the history of the keys. Also the fish pedicure was great. If is also has many trails through the woods.
We really enjoyed hiking the short trails around the park. Beautiful views of mangroves and short rivers, and the point has nice views out into the bay. They do a great job of labeling the plants and trees, and I liked the random little planetary walk. They have launches for canoes and kayaks, though we didn’t take part.
Great natural preserve. Took tour on 8 person golf cart. Russ was very knowledgable and made it very interesting.
I loved the hiking trails here and seeing the rescued birds. Not busy at all in the early morning maybe saw 4 people in all.
Amazing piece of history...we need to keep these places open to preserve a little bit of history
The place is a animal, plants and wildlife reserve. Its a really nice place to go in family le in groups. It grants you of big palaces to walk, travel and Discover. The museum is divaded in the interior part that counts with the gift Shop and the historial área. And the exterior part that have wildlife and long walking places. Awesome place.
Really nice trails to walk. Cool bird sanctuary, lots of pelicans they are taking care of. If you like spiders, they have some big ones there with high webs.
Beautiful place to take a morning walk and see the natural Florida beauty.
Admission is $15. Fish pedicure alone costs more in some places
A new goal is to take more time to stop and smell the flowers at some of the USAs natural gardens/nature reserves. While vacationing overseas, Ive enjoyed doing that more. But realized I dont visit enough places like that here. Currently, Ive only visited Duke Gardens. So I have started anew with this beautiful sanctuary in The Florida Keys. Ive learned why its important to hold onto these precious gems. Ive learmed they are important to our ecosystem. Ive also learned why we should make more efforts to keep reserves from being developed into homes/hotels and leave them untouched.
Great place for a nature walk. Lots of history. Worth a stop to visit.
We a wise division to take time and stop by this great unique place... So many thing to see and learned about history in the Keys, great for all ages, the rescue different species of wild life birds and the amazing views of the ocean. Walking in the path and enjoy nature.
Great place to see how the Keys used to be. Explanations of nature along the walking paths are exceptionally clear and concise. Beautiful!
Great place beautiful views and you can get a fish pedicure!!!! Well worth stopping
A must-do for those wanting to see the Keys unspoiled.
I dont know what this business was. It was kind of like a shut down summer camp. Good jungle, random trails.
One of the oldest houses in Marathon is heron Crane Point very interesting place. Everyone is very nice. Very reasonable price for the experience
Great views, tons of nature, tour guides were informative but not forcing info on you. Relaxing and definitely worth doing.
This was a hidden gem, we had a fun relaxing hike through, while stopping to get a fish pedicure for the whole family (our favorite part lol). We seen a nurse shark hanging out in one of the areas we stopped at. Its worth checking out for sure
Fabulous museum inside and out. Guided tour of the property gave us lots of information about the people who settled the land as well as the recovery after the hurricane.
Nice nature trail and some local history. Pet friendly and the dogs loved the trail. The point has a beautiful view looking off a bridge right on the water.
Nice simple but lots of interesting points.
We were lucky enough to get a tour guide name BillHe only works on Sundays. Very Knowledgeable about this place. Your paid admission is good for all day so we went and had lunch and went back to explore our self.
We went on the cart tour with Andy being our guide. Andy did an exceptional job on the history, the plants and animals. He went above and beyond sharing his knowledge with our group. If you chose the golf cart tour, be sure to ask for Andy.
Great experience. Took the guided tour around the place and discovered many new and interesting facts about the history and natural habitat in the Keys. Craig, our guide, was super attentive and fun. Would definitely recommend this place for people looking for some outdoor, peaceful activity for the whole family and for a great price.
A wonderful place to visit, very peaceful and beautiful. Very interesting history and I loved the free fish pedicure!
Great history museum and nature walk.
Worth the price of admission. Plan for a hike, take water. Facilities are top notch compared to other non-profit facilities Ive visited. Trails and fauna marked well. If you are interested in history and fauna of the middle keys this is a great place to visit.
This is a well kept secret! What a big find for little money. Can easily spend 4 - 5 hours exploring like we did.
Its Awesome! Natural Florida feel, appreciate the Keys!
Nice to get out of the over development of the U S 1 corridor to get a look at how it used to be. Simple but still impressive. Two hours of family time well spent.
A nice hike around seeing the various types of native trees on the property and learning about the history of the area. $15 each to get in and wander. Worth it? Marginally.
Very glad we found this place. Spend the $15 and take a walk around, youll be glad you did. Make sure to take the Bahama trail to really appreciate what that guy did to settle there!
Very beautiful place. Nice place to tour and walk the trails. A lot of history here
Really beautiful nice place to go!
Nice little nature center and history of the area. At Crane Point has a bridge over an inlet, it great for pictures.
The guided tour is well worth it for the stories and nature information. Look forward to clearing the pool of the overgrown trees. The nature is everywhere.
The trolley tour was am excellent way to see the large property and hear about the history and fauna. Dont miss this one.
Great walking trails loaded with flora and fauna. This place is also packed with history of the island and property. At the end of the walking trails there is a wild bird rescue. We were impressed with how clean the cages were for all the birds. All the trails are flat, wide, and well maintained.
Excellent little visit good to see all the good work going on with the rehabilitation of birds and reptiles lovely walk and also the wife enjoyed the pedicure. Well worth a visit for all ages.
Stumbled upon this gem during a lazy day-trip down the Keys. Take your time, visit the birds in the Wild Bird Center, walk the trails, and dont skip the fish pedicure.
Not to be missed! This 63 acre gem is one of the last vestiges of old Marathon and the keys. It is amazingly beautiful and the people who run it are equally amazing.
Did not see a single crane. Turtle did not move. Hot chocolate was watery. But overall, it is a very cute place for kiddos.
Its a very nice place to visit. The volunteer at the desk was cranky. If you want to ride the golf cart you must have a reservation.
It was an okay place to visit but I wouldnt go again. I do not recommend the trails because they are all trip hazards. Definitely not a place to visit when wearing sandals.
Very nice,if you have kids bring a heavy duty stroller .
Such a lovely place to see the natural beauty of the keys. Plenty of land to explore and things to do. It is definitely a must if you are in or near marathon! Give yourself AT LEAST 2 hours to see everything the park has to offer.
Visited a few weeks ago with my wife and two daughters. We were all delighted to meet Delores. Shes a remarkably young, older lady who has worked there since the place opened. Crane Point is a beautiful place to visit, and Delores is a lovely treasure.
Lovely place to walk in the hammocks. Enjoyed the bird center too.
Beautiful place to hike in the marathon area. Dog friendly
Lovely, natural, quiet, historic museum to visit!! With a variety of coastal and inland ecosystems which support species of birds from diverse ecological niches. Watch sea birds roosting out on Rachael Key, graceful wading birds along Rachael Creek or the songbirds in the hammock forests. Birds aren’t the only thing to see at Crane Point. There are spectacular picture postcard views of the ocean and the tropical forest too. Sit still long enough and you might even catch a glimpse of the Key Vaca Raccoon.
Nice place, nice Staff. Golf cart ride was very interesting.
Amazing history and beautiful trails through the hammock
This is a wonderful place for a nature walk with historical buildings that provide glimpses into the past settlement of the Keys.
Wonderful learning experience. So much more than expected. Hit the entrance movie first, can then review as you hit the trails.
Great break freon touristy stuff. Beautiful walk. Watch out for capillars one fell on my pocket and stung me... not so fun
Interesting museum in Marathon. Really enjoyed it. A must see.
A look into the past and preserved as it was. Foliage was in recovery mode from a summer drought. But many interesting items to see and look at.
Very nicely presented, with a friendly staff. Its easy to self-navigate, and has excellent examples of the native flora and fauna. The bird research center and the point only add to the experience.
Loved having the minnows nibble on my toes!
A lot of fun exploring
Drive here today to find a tiny little sign (can you see it??) saying they are closed until September 30th. Hey guys how about some orange cones that are visible from US1 before turning into your closed drive way?US 1 is very busy to be backing out or attempting to turn around.
Preserving our natural habitat while observing it was great
Totally worth the whole walk from the entrance, if not for any other reason, the actual point and view of the water. There are some benches to sit and take it all in, and you might meet some new iguana buddies as well.
Crane Point was an excellent experience. One of my greatest in Florida!!!!
Great place to visit so much to see
Nice place to take a leisurely walk.
Great nature and local history site. Must see
Best place to take a Nature hike in the State of Florida
Beautiful grounds with a lot of history. We took the golf cart tour, and it was a cooler way to learn a lot of information. There was an opportunity to feed fish and stop at a bird center on the tour. The butterfly garden was beautiful, and the nature museum had some interesting displays. The gift shop was fun and reasonably priced. We bought 2 different kinds of honey from the island. Plan to spend 3 or 4 hours.
This is a nature preserve in Marathon Florida. It is pretty well done considering that it is owned and operated by a nonprofit. The bulk of the land is preserved jungle with signs to explain what you are seeing. The Adderley house is located on the property (built in 1890) and it looks much as it must have 100 years ago. On the other hand, the Crane house, also in the property, (1950) is closed. There is a small but well done museum and a gift shop with plenty of educational material.
Cool place to take a trail walk through the mangroves. Nominal entrance fee.
Mud. Mud. Mud. We took our dogs to the Crane Point Nature Center the day after a heavy rain. The trails are rugged and beautiful, but we had to pick our way through the mud (that was our fault for going at a bad time!). While there is a boardwalk, you do have to walk through dirt/wooded trails to get there. Be aware that there is a long walk; little children and old dogs might become tired -- I ended up picking up my (very muddy) 10 pound dog and walked her back to the car when she decided she couldnt walk anymore. I wanted to get to the point and watch the sunset from the boardwalk, but I had to leave early because my dog got too tired. Ill definitely go back the next time I am in town...but not the day after a storm!
