My wife and I visited for an easy hike. The scenery is spectacular and the museum is small but very interesting and worth seeing. As grandparents I must warn all parents of small kids and even teenagers about the hazards of walking the trail beside the river. As I said the scenery and water falls are really nice and the signs are well done and interesting but there are many places where less than one step from the trial are straight down free fall drop offs of more than enough height to result in almost certain death. Most of the trail is not like this but there is enough to in my mind that families should stay away. There are no safety barriers of any kind, no ropes, cables, fences and in some places there is a very thin layer of small branches with a lot of loose leaves on the ground and then wide open just air. The gorge is pretty narrow and the foliage can be deceiving that you are really walking on a bluff edge. Our concern is lets face it, small kids get excited and rowdy when outside, they are kids - even teens can be this way. Not judging but some parents dont exactly supervise their kids when outside as close as maybe they should. Im telling you that it would be very easy for kids to get to running around chasing each other not paying attention and within a foot or so in some places off the main trial they would be falling straight down to their deaths. Im not kidding. If you take kids here please, please supervise them close. This is a very interesting place, worth visiting but I have to give it a one star for the lack of safety. It is amazing how our government regulates for extreme safety in the workplace and even our homes yet provides trails such as this one with seemingly no concern for families safety. Im not for our government regulating everything and I believe in personal responsibility but an innocent child plunging to his / her death while they are just being kids absolutely terrifies me about this trail. My opinion but if it saves one person it is worth posting.

Beautiful place for hiking, history and seeing waterfalls! We went with our kids ages 3 & 5 and I loved that there was a wide trail option and another closer trail to the bluff that was steeper. The stone walls are very cool and historical and we just loved the big waterfalls, and safely dipped our feet. Clean restrooms were open (masks required) within the small museum and shop. We also saw they have weekend activities for the public. We live near Nashville and will be back!

I have mixed feelings about this place. I think in my head I had way high expectations because of driving 2.5 hours BUT the waterfalls werent what I thought they were going to be.Regardless, it was amazingly beautiful and we got to play in the water and enjoy the beauty of nature!I took my 12 year old and he had a blast so it was totally worth the drive. Would I drive 2.5 hours to see this again...no...but I am thankful I went at least once.

Do not take young children on this trail !! There are many areas of deadly cliff drop offs within a few feet of the trail. If you do take young children (ages under 8) be sure to have their hand. Definitely do not allow any age child to run ahead of you if you don’t know this trail. Wear good hiking shoes as there are large rocks and roots to traverse to get to the waterfalls.

Great hike for a few hours with the family. If youre adventurous enough to climb a little you can climb does into the water. Theres a museum at the beginning (with restrooms) and the trail is in a loop. Some more challenging trails are we optional. I gathered that the level of difficulty is white, green, yellow, red. The latter trails are closer to the water. Great family day for amateur hikers.

When you first come in there is a nice, albeit small, museum with some cool information about the site. The main attaration are the great hiking trails all over the park. Its got lots of interesting stuff. All three of the waterfalls (Big, Little, and Bluehole) are within enough distance to be fun for an experienced hiker but is still not too long or difficult. This makes for a nice casual trip and you can easily spend several hours going about taking pictures.

One the fact that all the state parks in Tennessee are free !!! Makes my heart Happy all the trails, why wouldnt you want to explore all the beauty it has to offer !! Personally this has come to be one of my favorites with a lay out of a little bit of everything! From the history lesson on the drive in, to the imagination you use wondering what that mill or area might have looked like back in its prime . Easy trails for the less adventurous or those with little ones . Harder trails for the more experienced nature enthusiasts, grass, bugs and waterfalls whats not to love.

One of the absolute best places to spend the day in Tennessee. The state has done an excellent job in preserving the heritage of this land, and the surrounding waterfalls are some of the most serene in the south. The museum is informative and up to date, and the staff has done a great job keeping it clean & inviting. As rare as it is to see native american history so well preserved in the southeast, we were beyond thrilled to experience this incredible landmark and all it has to offer.

Absolutely beautiful park. There is a visitor center/museum with restrooms, souvenirs, and history of the area. You can watch a video on the region and what the old fort was believed to be.The trails are mostly pretty easy to traverse and identify. The park places markers on trees that are colored based on the trail youre on, which coincides with the map.Take a stop at the falls on both sides, theres a swimming hole on the little falls side, and there are great spots to simply wade in the river. Tons of wildlife in the region, too.All trails are pretty easy, even for kids. However, the red one is not recommended for young children. We found ourselves in some precarious areas that our young kids werent very skilled at traversing.Definitely a great place to disconnect, learn some history, and take in nature.

Well, my day was just ruined. I went for a hike. The trail was absolutely beautiful and I was so happy to be on it. But out of nowhere I saw a deer running at nearly top speed in front of me. At first that wasnt a big deal, but suddenly I realized that a deer wouldnt be running that fast for no reason.I was proven correct. Not too far behind it was a large black fur-covered animal coming after it. There happened to be a large tree trunk that I could easily hide from it behind. Had a whole moment where I visualized myself being torn limb from limb. Soon as it was clear, I ran. It could have been a bear, a wolf or some complete imbeciles dog. I wont be going on anymore hikes without bear mace.

Wonderful hiking trails, especially since I prefer walking loops. There are options regarding how challenging a trail you want to tackle. Any route you pick is a winner, winding through inspiring forest and along the water. There are some places that offer excellent views along the way, one time I looked off to my side and saw a near vertical drop a few feet away.Definitely worth the drive, less than an hour from Nashville. Campgrounds were well laid out too, with enough space in between the sites to be comfortable.

The park was great! But, inadequate parking so received a ticket for parking two spaces off of asphalt parking. I guess they expect visitors to just turn around and go home after driving over an hour to spend time at the park. The park is too big for such inadequate parking spaces. I saw no no parking signs there unless I just missed it. So unless you are willing to spend $50 to visit the park, go somewhere else or stay home.

There is a lot to see in this small state park. The campground is beautifully shaded and the sites are spaced out fairly nicely. The visitors center looks like it has been recently updated. You can walk on top of the visitors center to view the dam and Big Duck River. There are two nice waterfalls on Big Duck River Blue Hole Falls and Big Falls. The Little Duck River has one nice waterfall named Step Falls. The two rivers come together on the backside of the state park to form the Duck River. The best trail in TN! This trail, along with its side trails, offer many great views of waterfalls, swimming holes, wildlife, and historical features. To make the hike more interesting and challenging, take the unmarked trail to the right along the river just past the museum. They follow the river and eventually meet the alternate trail access point. Take the alternate trails for an extended hike with more elevation change (500). Keep to the right for the longest route around the park.

5 minutes off the interstate sits this small park with a wealth of waterfalls. First is a man made dam. As you keep walking down the trail, youll discover many natural waterfalls. Tip: have a fully charged phone battery, mine ran out from taking videos and pictures. The museum explains the backstory and if you have 20ish minutes, ask for the movie to be played, it does a great job of explaining the deep history of this area (the Indians built it, and later got misnamed a fort). Would be glad to go back here.
