Madison is fortunate, indeed, to have the array of natural areas we can and may enjoy within the city, and on its outskirts. For instance, at Warner Park on the north side of town, Ive seen wild turkeys, pelicans, swans, cranes, red tail hawks, great blue herons, painted turtles, frogs, toads, tree swallows, turkey vultures, belted kingfisher, grey catbirds, sharp-shinned hawks, red-bellied woodpeckers, pileated woodpeckers, American goldfinches, Coopers hawks, scarlet tanagers, indigo buntings, osprey, ruby-throated hummingbirds, foxes, white-tailed deer, and the all-too-common mallard ducks and Canadian geese. The flora are also vast, and theres a significant stand of black walnut trees in one area of this large city park. It also offers a large field that is fenced, so your licensed day may run off leash - please pick up after it!I would give five stars were it not for the fact that I called today with a question, and waited for the 9th ring before my call was answered with City of Madison Parks Department, can you hold? First off, it is for some obscure reason, a division, not a department. Second off, clearly there is insufficient staff to answer the phone. Third, I waited on hold for ten minutes before I gave up. TIME IS MONEY. My time is worth something to me, but further, I pay real money to charge my phone, and for every minute Im on a connected telephone call, and that money was burnt in a fire when nothing is accomplished during the call. In modern times where everybody has a mobile phone, government and business need to stop conducting business like people are still all using landlines where you can talk as many hours as you want each month, and the bill is always the same.
