This place is amazing! We spent 3 hours until closing time and could have spent more. The Lewis and Clark exhibit is immersive and SO COOL. The whole museum is done very well, so engaging and clean. In the hours we were there we only saw one other couple. Felt very safe regarding COVID.
This museum was a lot better than I was expecting. Although its quite expensive at $14 admission for an adult, I thought it was worth it. Start on the 3rd floor in the Bourbon exhibit and official starting point of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, this was also my favorite part. Work your way downstairs and try to see the KentuckyShow! if you have time. Loved this informative video. Also a great place to take children!
Disappointed. Stopped into the gift shop and found nothing that interested me history wise. It appeared that about 60 percent of it was nothing but bourbon related items and booze along with boutique kitchy items. Liked it better when it actually featured a great deal of historical related items and gifts when it contained military related items.
Perfect place to start the bourbon trail. Interesting museum with friendly staff and huge gift shop
A history museum of Louisville and Kentucky. Really large historical tour of bourbon. They have cool displays of the Kentucky Derby specially labeled Woodford Reserve bottles. Bottle hall has every bourbon currently in production and is a great photo op. The gift shop has some special bourbons and vintage bourbons.
Nice museum, would probably be pretty fun for kids, even with covid there was some interactive exhibits. I really enjoyed the equal/civil rights section!
Wonderful museum with so much local culture!
This place was interesting. Basic history for the most part. Enjoyed the interactive stuff with my spouse though. My main issue is just the lack of true information on behalf of people of color. I mean I am use to us being left out but there were so many places where I was just waiting to see acknowledgement of black people and people of color in the information that was presented. We had such a small thrown together section, per usual. I think these places only ever choose to really acknowledge us during the civil rights movement. As if this country we did not contribute to so much more from inventions, to farming, to infrastructure practices, hunting tools and processes, the Derby...oh how they love to leave us out of the Derby...anyways, I dont ever intend to go back strictly off of that alone. Otherwise, clean place. Decent atmostphere.
Great place to learn about the history of the State of Kentucky. I love the atrium/ garden area outside. I would not recommend for little children it’s not geared to hold their interest. Gift shop is cool and the photo opportunities are endless. It’s a beautiful building.
Very unique exhibits very friendly staff
As an out-of-town guest I was surprised there wasnt more about whomever Frazier is. After seeing the name all over town, I presumed that the museum bearing the name would have more about the person. However, the museum was very nice, clean, and the staff was very knowledgeable and professional.
Fun way to explore KY history in general. Sometimes it feels like if you’ve been to one distillery, you’ve been to them all. This was a neat place to learn more about Kentucky’s history beyond Bourbon.
Went to the gift shop they have really cute stuff and unique things.
I was worried our kids (4 and 6) wouldnt enjoy this museum, but they actually had a blast! They have an area with little figurines they can play with and set up, it was a total hit! Its beautiful inside.
They had excellent stuff to look at and enjoy they had a lot a whole lot of historical things and facts about Kentucky, and the City of Louisville, and all the parts in Jefferson County, and a lot of historical things that was interesting to look at and the knowledge of things that you may not have known beforehand. Its not too expensive its kind of low to medium. They have military discounts. I suggest anybody go see it. For all those who love to collect whiskey bottles or bourbon bottles or All the Above they have a huge display of bourbon and whiskey bottles displayed and they all the time and stuff displayed and how they used to tax it with the little tack strip across the top pretty cool to look at for those who are like that.
Great museum! Very interesting! Worth the money!I didnt know anything about the Lewis & Clark expedition, but this museum had a great exhibit about it!Also, the oldest Civil War monument in the US! (A restored & translated version is in the Cape Hill Cemetery.)
Enjoyable time just walking through the gift shop; we missed the tour
Frazier Museum has a few sections. Top floor: Bourbon & Derby Culture. Mid floor: Native history, Civil war, music culture. Bottom floor: introduction to Louisville
A stunning museum full of local and regional flavor. The bourbon bottle display alone is a visual feast (one you could get visually drunk off of), and you get a good sense of the history and culture of a state that has been at the crossroads of so many American movements and eras.
Really nice museum. They tell you to start from the third floor and make your way down. Third floor has a big Lewis and Clark exhibit with lots of history, some sound effects like your in the woods and a big waterfall video projected onto the wall to show where they ended their trip at the Pacific ocean. Its good for adults and children. Several hands on sections for kids to enjoy. Informative and very nicely put together. Peaceful. Had some Lewis and Clark artifacts but mostly replica stuff and historical markers along with stuffed animals they would have seen on their journey. A big keel boat replica as well. Also on the third floor is a history of prohibition complete with a speak easy area, a bar setup, a booth where you can sit next to Al Capone while watching video segments on related history. Pretty cool area.Second floor has the toy soldier collection along with the first floor area. Pretty large collection donated to the museum. Interesting items here. Most of the second floor was under construction when I went. Guess it will be a bourbon historical exhibit that they hope to open in 2018.First floor has a small number of items as well including a stuffed bison. They have live historical presentations throughout the day but I missed the three they had the day I was there. Parking is close by and $6 for the entire day. Easy to walk really close from that lot which is manned by an attendant and is located under the overpass.Very nice museum. Somewhat small in size but its will put together and taken care of. Spent about 90 mins here I guess.
Awesome place to visit with lots of exhibits to see and interact with. Kids loved it. Definitely a hidden gem in Louisville.
Havent got enough time to look around but so far so good
Very interesting museum. Exhibits are thoughtful and interesting. The layout on each floor is a little confusing. I wish there had been more of different kinds of music playing in the music history section. I love the sound of the hammered dulcimer and would have liked to hear more Bluegrass.
Love the history, the open manner in which it is displayed, and the incredible amount of bourbon just beyond reach
A museum full of pieces of Kentucky history and other oddball things! Interesting things to see! Cool stuff to learn! Interactive exhibits to play with! Bring your curiosity...
I had not previously visited the Frazier Museum since even when it was a small arms museum. So, I will say up front that the only reason I did not give 5 stars is because I was really hoping there would be more arms on display. With that being said, the museum is really neat and has some cool interactive exhibits (the interactive table in one of the bourbon exhibit rooms is awesome). There is definitely a lot of history on distillation and the agriculture behind it. If you are visiting Louisville (or even if you live here) I would recommend checking it out.
Museum was closed today, but still enjoyed the store.
Beautiful building with lots to see. Well done.
Very nice day trip. Bourbon exhibit was interesting. Nice casual walk thru. I had been years ago when it was mostly guns and arms and was disappointed to see it was scaled way back but overall the venue had plenty to enjoy. Would highly recommend !
Lots of history, but the Colonel Robert Gould Shaw performance was incredible! I loved it, definitely a must see.
Love it!!! I went with my family from Puerto Rico and they love it! If you love history this is a place to visit!
I went here to look at the Hunger Games exhibit and had a fun time looking at the lore and the behind the scenes stuff. Ive gone here before for school trips and every time I go I learn something new, if that matters. Great place to go for history and some of the special exhibits have been really cool. Highly suggest you visit if you have the chance.
This is our citys most wonderful, quirky gem of a museum. Amazing permanent collection of miniature soldiers (historic ones, full parades worth, Napoleons funeral procession), fantastic rotating exhibits (an edition of Shakespeares first folio, an amazing White Christmas movie exhibit, props and costumes from The Hunger Games, violins that survived the Holocaust), and truly the best kids day camp in Louisville. The Lewis and Clark exhibit is delightful and kids will love it. Amazing bourbon and Kentucky history exhibits.
Very well maintained building with several engaging exhibits showcasing interesting Kentucky history! And as of December 2019, they even had an exhibit featuring original costumes and set pieces from White Christmas! I highly recommend the Frazier Museum if you have guests in town.
You were given a map and you can wonder around by yourself so you can spend as much or as little time on a display as you wanted
My husband and I had so much fun in this museum! Its very well organized so the layout makes a great deal of sense. There are a lot of interactive exhibits that make navigating the museum a super fun and educational experience. The exhibits are well done and interesting. I absolutely recommend this museum, especially if you have children who would enjoy the interactive exhibits. Definitely my favorite museum in Louisville.
A great little museum to visit when we stayed the night in Louisville. Conveniently located near plenty of Louisville attractions. Not the largest museum in the world, but has enough interactive exhibits and unique displays that it is worth the price of admission. It also had displays that were great for both me and the wife. She’s a big history fan so most of this appealed to her. I’m from St. Louis so the Lewis and Clark exhibit interested me. She’s big into America folklore to the greatly entertaining tall tale teller was fun for her. I’m a big Hamilton fan so his exhibit was a treat for me. And then of course you have the original artifacts from Teddy Roosevelt and Geronimo. Well worth a visit.
This museum is really nice. There is a lot of Midwest history and also some bourbon history. The exhibits are well maintained but the cohesiveness of this place is missing. There are lots of miniatures and not so much Louisville history. Its more about American history. Still entertaining though.
The museum has three levels, and several exhibits. There is a permanent exhibit on toy soldiers, with a room devoted to that on the first floor, and toy soldier displays also scattered throughout the rest of the museum. Two other permanent exhibitions are on the third floor and are about Louisville during the era of Prohibition, and the Lewis and Clarke Expedition, which launched from this city. Both of these exhibits are informative and interesting, with the Lewis and Clarke one having a specific points for children. When we we visited, the second floor had an exhibition on the Nutcracker, with costumes from the ballet being exhibited, along with some set design. The exhibition was a bit sparse for the floor, but not outstanding. What I was hoping to see much more of would have been a permanent display on the roots of Louisville and how it came to be. The permanent exhibitions seemed very specific to small slices of Louisvilles history, and the temporary exhibition had a fairly tenuous connection. There is a gift shop on premises, and there is a parking lot around the back of the museum that is competitive to the rates of other lots in the area and as convenient to the other sites in the area (the Louisville Slugger Museum, the 21C Hotel and Museum, the Science center, etc.) as the others.
Ridiculous amount of money to collect exorbitantly expensive army man sets.
Got to see some amazing exibits from a school in colombus indiana
Beautiful structure, very well maintained, great location. The Arms in this former arms museum are gone and thats too bad as it used to be world class. It now appears to be a Kentucky historical museum with a few artifacts. Its probably politically correct, sorta sterile, not too interesting.
An unexpected delight! Very enjoyable as a solo traveler. Staff were friendly, and the exhibits were unique, immersive, and both enjoyable and informative
Where we had our daughter’s rooftop wedding. Also had reception there. Everything there first class. Faculty staff all very helpful in making sure everything was “just right”. Highly recommend for wedding. Museum is great. Also, Frazier Museum is your first stop when experiencing Kentucky’s Bourbon ( or Urban Bourbon) Trail.
Always changing exhibits. White Christmas was my fav. Posted pictures of the Bourbon history exhibition.
Beautiful museum with very interesting exhibits. I thought it was a bit pricey and the museum itself had more open space than exhibits. Nice place to visit but wont go back.
I was surprised by what they have on display. It was very interesting. And the gift shop was fabulous!
I worked here as an intern, as well as co-hosted an event, and had a wonderful experience both times. Frazier is actively rotating their galleries so ever visit feels fresh. Plus, they are taking positive steps to diversify the historical voices present in their displays. If you’re in the Louisville Area and on Museum Row, I’d highly recommend!
A piece of history in downtown Louisville. It educated me about the prohibition era and a lot of other historical events in the history of the US. Its amazing what this great country has gone through. No doubt we live in a great nation.
Excellent, we loved every bit of it!
A different kind of history museum with a lot of hands on exhibits. I enjoyed it as an adult and I think kids will like it too. I also learned a lot about whiskey.
Frazier museum is fantastic. Insightful, interactive, amazing.
I work for a catering company and we do alot of events here
My daughter loves it
Great museum with interesting exhibits. Particularly enjoyed the bourbon and toy solider exhibits.
Fun museum with several interesting exhibits. Great first stop on your bourbon trail experience if you want to grab a distillery passport
Has some pretty cool things to see. Worth a visit. Nice gift shop.
Great museum! Lots of interactive stuff for the kids to play with (and adults too). If you like miniatures, there is the largest collection here that I have ever seen. There is a fun Lewis and Clark exhibit as well. You can tell a lot of money went into this place as it shows. Well worth the trip. Restrooms were nice as well. They sell boxers in the gift shop in case you need an extra pair.
I went to check out the Hunger Games exhibit. It was neat but if you love the movies like me then you know most of the info. They offer a military discount, which is greatly appreciated and some of the proceeds go to Jennifer Lawrences charity, but I still felt it was a little on the high side. You do get access to the rest of the museum which we checked out. If youre a big fan go and support the districts, if youre not then save your money.
Dropped in the to past sometime away and learned a lot, will visit again.
It was fun. Im not really in to history but I would recommend going there Id your in to history. It has all kinds of war stuff, stuff about Daniel Boone and more.
I love the activities they have for kids near the holidays. Its grown into a very neat museum.
Very well done. Multiple different styles of history, all Kentucky based. Bourbon, music, frontiersmen then a unique collection of toy soldiers. A great place and very reasonably priced.
Very fun. Good for couples, families with children.
A very different museum than the one I visited a few years ago. Exhibits feature a local favor. The Bourbon experience was really interesting. The Hunter S Thompson exhibit was informative and entertaining.
I am quite a history nerd and this place never disappoints man. Love the Frazier Museum!!
Very nice museum, with lots of information about Lewis and Clark. Well worth your time and the moderate admission. A real learning experience.
A very clean and well organized museum. As I guy who is not too much into museums I was doubtful when I first walked in. However after seeing how much detail they put into the place I was blown away. I was also impressed on how clean it was there. I never found any garbage or dust anywhere. They also had some very interesting stuff to view there. The descriptions they had on the artifacts where also very informative and straight to the point. The staff was very helpful and will be more than willing to help you out if you have any questions. If you are looking for a fun place to go for the day I recommend going here. You will not be let down.
Such beautiful bldg. Good presentation for the Louisville history & also give you lots info for the bourbon. Its a good 2 hours period time to spend in the museum.
Honesty, the best museum Ive been to in a long time! They do a great job of fusing artifacts like Daniel Boones family Bible with technology like large walls of images and interactive maps. Frazier is EXTREMELY hands on. From fishing with the Lewis and Clark exhibit, to buidling a mini bourbon barrel, to literally getting to pick up and play instruments, and build battle scenes with minatures, this is definitely a spot you dont want to miss. Exhibits rotate through, so Frazier Museum should be on your list of places to frequent. Great field trip option or good for a way to spend a few fun and educational hours. Kids ages 3-13 were with me and enjoyed!
Great gift shop with three levels of exhibits. Each exhibit was impressive and well laid out.
Good way to kill an hour in Louisville and get a little local culture. Good hands-on exhibits for kids.
Nice eclectic collection of things, including toy soldier sets from many different eras and countries, a fun Lewis & Clark display and all kinds of info on bourbon making. Really enjoyed the temporary exhibit featuring photos of the Great American Road Trip. A fun place to spend a couple of hours. We spent a couple of hours checking out the exhibits at this nice and very clean and lovely museum. There was lots of interesting information and exhibits and everyone was very pleasant and helpful. They do have a bourbon tasting available at a minimal fee - probably a very good deal for those who enjoy bourbon.
I was a chaperone on my sons field trip. Really cool place and the store was amazing
Really enjoyed the Hunger Games Exhibit. The rest of the museum is quite small, the museum store that a wide variety of items and Diet Pepsi which most of Louisville caries Coke products, so that was wonderful after 3 days without DP. Wish HG wouldve been a little more diverse, I really felt like it was heavy on the clothing and they couldve done more creative things with it.
It should be 2 1/2 stars!! Maybe it needs to be updated since the Royal Armory pieces are gone. If it wasnt for the Harlan Hubbard exhibit this would have been a wasted 2 hour one-way road trip. And FOURTEEN BUCKS!! Are you kidding me?!? I almost asked for my money back.
This museum needs to be added to your bourbon trail destinations.
Really enjoyed the white Christmas display. How fun yo have photo ops with props from movie White Christmas!
Wonderful exhibits and a look at some artifacts not normally discuased in American History.
Nice to take your family to not at all lot of stuff with your family escaped them in a whole lot of history that you can know aboutthe Frazier history museum long time ago two Spirits the young kids so they know what they are doing when they grow up so it is nice to take your family to
Great exhibits!
Very interesting. It will take a couple hours to see most of it,. The cost is nominal. I didnt have time to take a tour.
The Frazier Museum has changed courses from an arms museum to the History of Kentucky. Its also the front door of the Bourbon Trail. If you really enjoy the history of Kentucky and or Bourbon Trail this is a DEFINITE!If youre planning an event or wedding they also have a beautiful venue on the rooftop to get married overlooking the Ohio River and venue on the fourth floor to host your reception. The staff is top quality and the venue is beautiful, super clean and easy to work with.
So much to learn about our countries rich history and how LOUISVILLE came about!! Had so much fun!
The Frazier History Museum is a unique and lovely treat on Museum Row. I have to admit that originally I did not imagine the variety of exhibits and shows that I have been privileged to attend at this museum. I have seen Princess Diana’s lovely gowns and so many excellent exhibits. When the Speed Museum was under construction and The Frazier allowed us to visit, was the beginning of truly enjoying this museum. I have attended a rooftop wedding there and that only adds to the special surprises I have enjoyed.
Great place to find out all about Bourbon . Friendly staff.
Learned so much! Bought an $8 harmonica in the gift shop! FYI, they dont like it if you play it while youre walking through the exhibit. They have a really cool whiskey collection, and a fancy Minority Report table that lets you look up things.
I’m excited the bourbon trail has an official starting point! The Balenciaga exhibit was beautiful
This place is full of history. But, like, actual history, not metaphorical history. The museum wasnt built in 1874 or whatever--heck, I remember when it was established, back in 2004. Not much history has happened since then--*remembers how insane the past fifteen years have been*. Scratch that last bit.Anyway, its fun and has historical what-have-yous.
It is a fun place to visit. Im not into bourbon history so a large section of the museum was not interesting to me.
A great museum to go to in Louisville when you want to past time! Its a great place for history lovers both big and small. While its very educational for adults, its still interactive for little ones too throughout the museum. This museum is perfect for learning more about Kentucky, Lewis and Clark, and bourbon!
They have a new Bourbon experience upstairs to learn about Louisville and Bourbon. It was really interesting to read about the history.
The exhibits are extremely well done! The atmosphere is approachable and interesting. This is a museum for everyone.
Huge museum with tons of information on tons of different exhibits! It was quiet the day we went so there weren’t any guides throughout the building (which was fine with us but others may have wanted more guidance).
Good selection of Kentucky themed things in the gift shop! Did not make it into the museum portion but enjoyed the gift shop!
Nice exhibits and a peaceful atmosphere. I really enjoyed my time here.
Love to take out-of-town guests to this museum. The interactive Lewis and Clark exhibition, the Stewart miniature soldier collection, and the KY Spirit exhibit deliver variety, but its the historical interpreters who truly make the museum stand out.
A must see and gem on Main Street.
