A really incredible house tour, especially for the price. One of my favorite house tours that Ive ever done! The woodworking skill, especially the staircase and the first floor area is just astonishing. Our tour guide was really knowledgeable and did a really good job of trying to keep all parties socially distanced from each other. The house is currently decorated for Halloween - lots of candles and black fabric over the mirrors - for an evening candlelight tour they do, which sounds like loads of fun!

This mansion was super cool. It’s fully restored and the history behind it is incredible. The mansion itself is rather large and there’s quite a bit to see. They offer guided tours and you can purchase your tickets online. Parking can be a little tough since there’s no parking lot, but it was well worth the trip!

Located at the old entrance to the Southern Exposition world fairs of 1883 to 1887, the Conrad-Caldwell house is a lovely piece of architecture, and a place that captures the interior design of the era.The Romanesque architecture of the exterior is worth spending a little bit of time with, since much of the decoration is unique from one example to the next, rather than having the same repeated across the house. The tour of the interior is interesting for the fact that one of the great-grandchildren is the docent, and peppers the tour with anecdotes from her memories of the house and her relatives. The tour goes through most of the rooms which are populated with furniture from the era and some from the house itself where it is available. The decorative items are almost all from the original house as well. The house is at its fanciest in the entrance level, with each level becoming less so, and, not surprisingly, the servants quarters are even more utilitarian. The top level is in need of maintenance, and if you are lucky you also get to see some of the storage spaces. The house has three levels that are part of the tour, all accessed by stairs. There is an elevator in the house, but I do not know if that is available for people with disabilities or not. The tour takes about an hour.Just down the street there is a fountain from the Southern Exposition worth taking a look at, and across the street is Central Park, which survives from the Exposition, though reconfigured.Street parking is easily had around the neighborhood, but be aware that you are right across the street from a police station so illegal parking is not advised.

They dont actually open at times advertised, FYI. The tour was due to start at 1pm but they show as opening at 12:30. We, along with a lot of others showed up at 12:30. Opens at 12:30 is advertised on Google. Others got the same information as there were about 7 people there. We were told they cant let anyone in until 12:40. It was 26 degrees outside. It all seemed made up and rude. We (along with others) left instead of standing there freezing on the sidewalk for an undefined 10 mins.

These amazing Victorian homes are so rare anymore! This one in particular, is probably one of the most beautiful Ive seen and way ahead of its time. Beth was our tour guide, she was the great, great grand daughter of the Caldwells. She told great stories about the home and many of the artifacts she remembered seeing as a child. This made the tour very personal and helped us fall in love with home even more! She is like the Freddie Johnson of Buffalo Trace to this home...descendants off this historic places with a passion to keepibg these stories alive! The home was built on the site of the Southern Exposition, a 5 year series of Worlds fairs, where Thomas Edison showed off his incandescent light bulb invention! This house had this indoor lighting with gas as a backup, indoor bathrooms, wood laid floor throughout, to name a few treasures here. Please visit and support this gorgeous, historic home!

Given the cost ($10) of this tour and the amazing amount of history in this house it is well worth every penny. The tour itself took a solid 90 minutes so be sure to budget your time accordingly. Also note, I normally dont enjoy these kinds of tours and this was an exception for me.A few highlights:-The tour guides are family members of the second owners of the house which dates all the way back to the 1880s/1890s. The guide we had is a volunteer that provides the tours just because she likes to do it.-The guide will flavor in a bunch of stories handed down over generations which is cool because most of these types of tours are very dry.-The house has a ton of items that have been around since the original build. Most of the woodwork in the house is still the original woodwork.-The house was the height of opulence at the time, they have photos that show it looking like a castle compared to other houses in the neighborhood when it was built.-Everything in the house is beautifully arranged and it is obvious they spend a lot of time and money to maintain it and keep it looking so stellar for the tours.Highly recommend!
