Great little museum. Portland is rich in history and was the largest city until the canal was built around the Falls of the Ohio. Portland is full of pride and has great potential to be a booming neighborhood. It is the largest neighborhood in Louisville.
Its a small place but good information to you as to get to know about the Portland. Staff here is really good and they helped us to know more about the Portland area and its history.
Great institution serving its neighborhood, the city and river buffs everywhere. It’s current hosting of Wes Modes’ the Servret History Of American River People is another great example of their creative, progressive programming. Go Portland Museum!
Charming. But the collection is not particularly extensive. Loved the info on Shippingport, but even that could have been explored further.
Enjoyed our visit to the Portland Museum on the Louisville Cultural Pass. Very in-depth history of Portland and how it related to the Ohio River and Louisville. There are many fascinating stories to be heard here. The old house which is part of the museum is also rich with history. Well worth spending a couple of hours or more here. Dont miss the newsreels of the 1936 flood, either!
Nice place to learn Port and neighborhood history .. They need volunteers to keep the doors open.. I grew up in Portland even though I moved away in still a Portland girl at heart..
Great hospitality. We enjoyed on the art fair tour, loved printing press experience. Wish it was open on the weekends!
