Right now the rec center is being used as a temporary shelter, Im currently staying in one of the campers because of Covid-19. The campers are nice, may need some maintenance here and there. Radio was working, now its not working. No TV. The food is pretty much garbage, a lot of processed meats, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. And oh, my camper door lock is broken.
Such a fabulous park! As an LA native its sometimes necessary to find a safe haven to escape the horns and pandemonium. Westwood rec withholds an assortment of shaded areas, sporting activities, and plenty of real estate for your own privacy. Its nestled in between the 405 and Wilshire and has enough parking for you and your friends for up to 4 hours. Bring your basketball and break a sweat or youre inflatable couch to take a break, it will serve well.
This is one of our favorite parks on the west side! It has an awesome zip line which is pretty much the only reason we go. But the rest of the park is really great as well. Nice sand box, fun play structures and lots of grassy area for sports and picnics. Plenty of parking even on weekends, which is rare in LA.
Tried going to swim 2 times, on Dec 27 & Dec 31, at 7:15 am and 7:50 am, resp. Both times all 4 doors to the main building were locked, with a paper note that the center doesnt open until 9 am. I e-mailed RAP PublicInfo. Dec 27, they e-mailed back that the pool should be open at 6:30 am, and gave the pools phone# which I called. The lady who answered accused me of being the one who complained to HQ. She claimed the doors were open at 6:30 am and others were swimming then. Today (Dec 31), the doors were also locked and nobody answered the phone#. I worked hard on the handles and knocked on the window and a lady finally came to the door from inside and pointed to the paper sign. I said I was told the pool would be open at 6:30 am, per the website. She then said, 1 to 5 and walked away, leaving the doors locked. That is totally different than the hours listed in the LA Parks website pdf of info. I am suspecting this is the common big city issue of departments just ignoring the tax-paying public and doing whatever the employees want, including getting paid for not showing up and opening facilities.
Wonderful place to swim and socialize. Everything is worth the trip. Very clean and very friendly
Very large play area for the kiddos. A vast variety of play options. Slides, swings, sand box, etc. The families there seems to be pretty friendly and of different ethnic groups. Park was clean and picked up. Would definitely go again
Great park to take kids lots of play area and running ground, it has space to go for a run too, plenty of parking and lots of trees so theres a lot of shade! Also, nothing beats the indoor swimming pool ! (thursday is best to go).
Been doing the weekly taichi class with my mother led by Peter Asco for several years now. Its a wonderful class with many returning students which attracts more every new session. Highly recommend it for anyone needing a good mind-body-spirit discipline to reset fm the traumas of LA life. Recommended for any age if dealing with PTSD, depression, anxiety, chronic illnesses, sleep disorders and post-cancer. Hes worked with the VA and also provides classes for staff at UCLA and has been practicing for many many years. Class is beginner level but a wonderful experience for any level of familiarity with taiqi chuan&qigong and a wonderful addition to anyone familiar with other martial arts as the practice stresses flexibility, equilibrium and adaptability versus rigidity and offensive techniques.Students are introduced to both taiqi as well as qigong, which prepares the malleability of body and mind for the forms learned in taiqi.Returning students are able to perfect their practice as they form a closer bond with their energy centers and qi (breath/life force) and first time students begin to experience incremental changes in their health& wellbeing both physically as well as mentally.
One of the best outdoor playgrounds for kids in the area. Has its sports grounds and some green space as well as swimming pool... parking is fairly large. Toilet hard to find and not very clean on a Sunday.
Nice sog park, plus synthetic grass soccer field & 6 tennis courts. There is easy free parking from the # homeless people staying overnight in tents every night has been staleadily increasing.
Volunteer training here for youth volleyball division is terrific
Its a really great place for kids. Lots to do for a playground. We go early, sometimes 6 am, and there are a few homeless so be wary of that. Soft rubber matting is great too. Lots of slides and swings.
The employees inside very mean,is a pity.
Great place remodeled and beautiful.
Beautiful place for a nice walk
Awesome for swimming. Affordable. Aidans park is Great also. U can make up an obstacle course for the little ones. And they the zip line.
We love going for the open swim. Its inexpensive and is indoors. Also their playground is always a hit with the kids. There is nice outdoor space to spend the afternoon. Its a great all-around park.
Its big enough for everybody to have fun
Lovely pool empty during the day very clean. We like the park out side in the summer time. They offer classes for kids too!
Really nice gym. Excellent amenities for All Sports. Something to do for everyone. Drink machines and snack machines. Pool for aquatic exercises.
Cash only. Single parent with two kids? Good luck! Policy here is one adult per child, so I wasnt allowed in with my two kids.
Great facility everything you could ask for under one roof tons of programs for kids & adults and a great youth basketball program theyre even building a new dog park!!! Super playground and they have fun special events for Halloween and Easter that have improved over the past couple of years since we moved to the area.
This park is a great space and has a lot of room for activities such as soccer, Frisbee, or volleyball. The only downside for me is the fee for using the tennis courts. However if you go before 5pm Monday through Friday or avoid 10am - 7pm on the weekends, the courts are up for grabs and generally available. Another issue I have with the park is the maintenance of the sprinkler systems. For a private owned park, I would expect a little more care. Often, there are huge puddles of mud resulting from faulty sprinklers. Other than that, Ive never experienced any trouble. I do hear that dogs must be leashed at all times since sometimes a policeman rides around the park distributing citations. I think thats ridiculous.
Nice Swimming pool
Safe place and good customer service
Always a great pool, not fancy, 25 meters, not yards, yay!
Basketball courts are nice, but definitely need to be redone! If someone falls playing ball, they’ll definitely get cut!
Great place to play basketball, swim, play on the monkey bars, have a picnic, or go to camp. just a great park overall. it is fully handicap accessible too!
Good park for kids. Lots of little play areas. But also a lot of dogs...
Nice facility. Great staff. Lots of parking.
Open to the public and its always clean..
Clean and active facility. Racquetball courts are in good condition.
Great facility. Clean and very well maintained.
Great park with outdoor basketball, tennis courts, BBQs and a lot of open space. Also a kids play area.
Very nice place!
This is a good park with many different things to do. parking is good too
Great park that has something for everyone. big field for any activity you can think of (ive seen ppl start playing quidditch), huge soccer field that is always occupied, kids play area, tennis courts, basketball courts, and much more. be warned of the people letting their dog roam off leash ( I take my dog there to train and do not like the random surprise of an off leash dog sneaking up behind us) to each their own i suppose!
Very nice park great soccer field.
Great classes. Great parks. Swimming.
Cheap, clean and big enough. Not for kids though and no soap pumps in the shower.
A very spacious park with a lot of parking.
Best Playgrounds for children in the Westwood are by far. My son loves it.

Steve Harvey (Boby) who runs the youth basketball program pockets the money for himself to pay for his shoes. This place is a Joke. I also often see homeless people masturbating in the bathroom where little kids often wash their hands and pee.We we west Westwood rec sucks!!
