A hidden gem located in Griffith park, the volunteers here celebrate and carry the legacy of Walt Disney and his love for trains. The barn is restored and furnished with countless artifacts highlighting his interest in trains and his joy in sharing that with others. The location is opened once a month on the 3rd Sunday (1st Sunday offered during the summer months) and free parking is available in the adjacent lot.
It was very beautiful. I personally love the telegram and the train models they have inside. It is a wonderful place to visit with friends and family. They have some of Walt Disneys belongings and some of his own documents related to purchasing and forming the train station. He loved trains and even made this gorgeous place. I love it and I personally recommend this place.
This was a neat experience with the family, best part it was free. Definitely worth checking out. It is a very laid back event and definitely has the Disney vibes.Check out the east entrance to take a train ride around the park.
Wonderful place to visit and learn more about Walt Disney. Third Sunday of each month.
One of the best little train museums Ive been to . Very cool machines . We saw steam engines, pretty cool looking inventions of moving parts machines. I highly recommend this.
The passion of the people that volunteer here make it a joy to come back to again and again. The interpretive displays really make you appreciate the roots of Disneyland and Walts endearing love for trains. Be sure to follow their Facebook page for whos gonna be at their next open house!
This is one of the greatest things to see, especially if you are a Walt Disney fan. You never know what disney legend youre going to run into. The Barn is open the 3rd Sunday of the month. They are also open the 1st Sunday of the month during the summer.
Great place for family day
Awesome place to visit. Lots of history. Very well done as you would expect
The area is small but really cool. When we went, a few people were running their model trains, we stood there and watched for a while. Others were showing the steam engines they built. The barn had a lot of original design used for Disney projects. We spent maybe 45 minutes to an hour there including a short wait. Its a cool place to walk around and check out a few things if youre a fan of Disney projects. The admission and parking are both free.
This is a must see for anyone who has an interest in Walt Disney and the beginning years of Disneyland. Walts Barn is an actual building that was in Walt Disneys back yard. There are many items from the beginning days of Disneyland as well as details on the miniature railroad he had in his back yard. Parking is easy. Check the website for days of operation
Wish there was a little more to see, since its quite a drive from San Diego.
A lovely experience to visit at least once in your life. Lots of history and fun facts.
Amazing piece of Disney history. Enjoyable experience
It shows all the steam engines that Mr. Disney built and what he did with them over the years. It gives a life history of Mr. Disney.
One of the best places in the city to go with kids when youre on a budget, Walts Barn is part of the Los Angeles Live Steamers complex. A members only club it is however open to the public on Sundays. For a minimum contribution guests can ride on train cars built to 1/8th scale. Once youre through with the ride go check out Walts Barn which was originally in the back yard of Walt Disneys home and which houses an incredible collection of vintage memorabilia.
For any Disney fan who loves Disney history, this is a great opportunity. Plus many more sites to see in the area. This place has specific days when its open, so be sure to check out their schedule before planning a trip.
Its neat to see the barn from Walt Disneys back yard. If you are a Disney fan, you will enjoy the history inside. Very cool. Thanks!
Great time learning about the start of Disneyland. Free with donation optional. Highly recommend.
Its cute for what it is. Its free and great for Disney fans.
Quaint and charming. Not a lot there but a must for Disney fans. Lots of history.
Although Ive been in the area for 8 years I never realized how close Walts Barn is or how cool it would be. Its deceptive, too: a small area with a barn, a couple other small buildings (one created as a train depot for kids of one of Walts old buddies, so no wonder its small!), and a few engines. But the historical artifacts in the barn and rail engines and the wealth of stories that the many employees have are amazing, and the train ride around the park is actually quite long and features over a dozen sites, some miniatures and others nearly full sized, like the bridges and tunnels.Carolyn and Jeff told us great snippets of history and little known lore, and lucky for us, wandering the grounds were the original Tinker Bell, Margaret Kerry, and one of the third generation Imagineers, Fleming. These lovely folks shared their extensive, personal history with Walt, his companies, and the trains here at the barn, which really blew us away. Just an amazing place, well worth the visit. Make sure to talk to the (many) hosts and cast members here; youll learn something new, guaranteed!
What an awesome place to take the kids on a budget!! We took the kids to the zoo and we overheard a couple talking about this little hidden gem of a place
This place offers a very historic and inside look into the railroading and model trains life of Walt Disney along with artifacts and memorabilia from Ward Kimball and other Disney animators personal train collection the barn is preserved as it was built and is staffed by an incredible number of very knowledgeable and friendly people a must do when youre in the area for any Disney fan at a look inside another chapter 2 the great mans life
Family friend n the people there are knowledgable.
Great historic spot for scaled model trains. Home of Los Angeles Live Steamers.
Only open one day each month, on the 3rd Sunday 11-3. Built in 1950 by Walt Disney in the backyard of his home on Carolwood Drive, now located just east of Travel Town.
We had a blast. Well worth your time.
