This is such a great shop with so many fun items for both young and old. Lots of collectibles, gift items as well as a book section with hard to find titles. A great staff that is friendly and helpful. Check out the gallery featuring contemporary lowbrow artists. Im a big fan of this store and always try to stop by when in town to add to my collections which used to be zipper pulls but now is enamel pins and patches and I also buy several cute items so I have fun gifts on hand.
This place is amazing, simply put. Radiates “cool” - definitely not your typical stodgy gallery, this place is really engaging and exciting, as evidenced by they being at capacity at nearly all events!! Hoping this institution isn’t altered too much following the pandemic.
Great history lesson. Friendly to the military. Was advised to visit a Gold-rush museum after this one. Enjoyed it too. Thank you!
It feels like the spirit of those who didn’t have voices are now being heard in visual exhibition. All tastes and style of art. Truly inspirational!
Great exhibitions and store. Lovely peaceful garden out back.
Its a fun little space for rotating exhibits. Fairly small so Id say its not worth going out of your way unless youre really interested in the current exhibit. Has a really nice back yard area.
Quaint little hide away. Full of mindful activities and personal tranquillity.
The undisputed capital of Black Cool in LA. Fantastic art, phenomenal people and a beautifully peaceful vibe that cannot be found elsewhere. It is my happy place.
Excellent space for contemporary art, focusing on artists of color. Amazing programming and definitely worth a visit. Open until 7 and also has a very nice backyard.
We enjoyed the exhibit a lot. The gallery was well designed and thoughtfully presented, and he overall experience was excellent. We especially appreciated the guided tour that Justin gave us. I look forward to the next show.
Came here on a whim and in glad I did. The pieces are incredible and thought provoking. Even the bathroom had me shook lol. Check out the outdoor area. Its a great place to sit and enjoy the environment and reflect on your experience at the museum.
A really beautiful space, with a bookstore in front, a gallery space, a bar/cafe area and a beautiful outdoor/garden space that hosts many events - concerts, film screenings and more. There is currently a space to pay tribute to Nipsey Hussle set up outside as well. Many incredible books, records etc on sale at the bookstore.
I love LA for its art galleries and museums. Wanted to check out the local gems and this was pretty darn aesthetically pleasing. The small garden in the back was beautiful with the Sun shining through the multi colored panels. It was a quick walk through but I do enjoy appreciating the work. The building is painted all black and doesnt say the underground... Just in case you get turned around.
Unique exhibits. Great staff. Love the book selection, vinyl records, etc...
Underrated spot showing some really beautiful work that you won’t see elsewhere.
Fantastic space for focused art exhibits and a great back patio area for events. I went to the opening for the Roy DeCarava: The Work of Art exhibit on a recent visit to LA. I knew next to nothing about DeCaravas photography (which spans decades). The curators decisions on photo arrangement helped each pice stand for itself while providing insight in to DeCaravas view of America. I appreciated the crowd they brought in, too. You could tell theyre doing good work fostering community.
Interesting art place was clean
A must see!! The artwork makes you think and then makes you think again. The garden is purple, my favorite color. The garden was so relaxing, my friends and I did not want to leave. The people that work at the museum are very nice. The gentleman had such knowledge and answered our questions completely, I could see he loves his work. Thank you and I will be back.
Lovely staff, smells great, beautiful exhibition space, bar and back yard!
Looks small but is actually a lot bigger than expected. They even had free yoga twice a week in June in their backyard. Can’t get any better than free yoga all month!
What a special and powerful place. This space is healing with a beautifully curated representation of visual art.
Probably one of the coolest secrets in LA.
Great Place; Good Work Going On There
Cool Roy de Carva exhabit
Its a neighborhood art center that shows movies on Friday nights in the Summer. The last movie this summer end was Black Panther and the costume designer for the movie, Ruth Carter was there. One of the staff interviewed her and the audience asked questions. It was a Blast!
This is a Gr8 experience to be able to have quality events like these in Mid-City Crenshaw area. The Underground Museum is a very unique place & not to be missed or go unnoticed. Amazingly all of this in Our very diverse neighborhood. Life is good.
Such a beautiful place to see and celebrate black artists and their work. Its a tiny hole in the wall, but once you go in its so much more.
Such a beautiful hidden gem. I went a couple of weeks ago for a Friday, outdoor, movie night. They served popcorn and wine. The backyard setup looked like a picture off of pinterest
Great Arts & Nice Atmosphere
Hidden gem, lots of cultural events...yoga, meditation, and movie screening, along with art exhibits. I along with my daughter, grand daughter and neighbor took advantage of the sunset yoga class, instructor Uma was such a calm spirit, making the class refreshing and educational. We shall be back.
I am eversoelated about The Underground Gallery! I am deeply grateful for The Underground Gallery! I was introduced to this gem by my neighbor for a complimentary Yoga Class, which has become sattvically addictive and intoxicating for my mind body and Soul. It is taught so yogically by Ms. Uma Nicole. Uma is a multi-dimensional talented young woman with impressive goals and desires for all of humanity. I am a introvert that looks forward to morphing each Sunday @5:30pm into an extrovert for Umas Yoga class. [Note: Her Sunday class is currently off the calendar due to seasonal weather], which is taught outdoors under the heavens where hummingbirds have graciously played in our midst. Heartfelt gratitude goes to the Underground Gallery owners! to Justen for his seamless and inspiring gentlemanly qualities! to Veronica at the Front Desk for her wide eyed authentic welcoming smile! I am in LOVE with The Underground Museum for their artistic selections/gatherings too! They have lovingy, thoughtfullly and genuinely placed a gravitational cultural GEM in the heart of Washington Blvd. I am forever thankful for the unwavering LOVE and GRACE that greets my Soul on each visit by the members of Umas class too! It is said that when Billie Holiday would sing, a whole life was in her voice. This is the epitome of Underground Gallerys presence in the community! Smiling at The Underground Gallery from the depths of my Soul! -Mahananda Love
Awesome place, great customer service. If you have any questions they will assist you. They are all smiles. I will come again.
Contemporary art. They have cool art events with dj and music in the backyard.
An unassuming storefront hides and delightful collection of art in a beautiful space, also flexible enough to host events.
Love their outdoor movie nights
Amazing museum and great staff.
Crowded! Lovely place though.
Peaceful place to do creative work.
My name is Kim and I want to live in your back yard.. I had a wonderful visit there.

Hidden gem in LA
Rad! Go check it out
Small but interesting
Home. Not home away from home, but home.
Love this place!
Awesome small gallery
Bad organizers. Rude staff
I gave it 4 stars for the concept alone and an additional star for the fact that it has movie nights Friday night.
