A free art gallery that rotates through artists every few months. They also have a chicken pen that’s so fun to visit. Sometimes you have to park a block away and walk but it is worth it! I love how they always add info about the artists and keep the area very clean. Very relaxing to grab a coffee or drink and visit the galleries. There’s also more free galleries around the area so there’s plenty to see and do.
DONT MISS OUT. This location on the outside look like there wouldnt be much to see. The surrounding area screams creativity and you really find something special here. This unique location has art, community, agriculture and so much more. Beautiful to walk through and check out. There is a place to eat inside but I did not stop by. The area definitely looks over priced but I did not spend a dime. Still enjoyed everything. Loved the little farm set up they got going on here with the live chickens.
Beautiful little place to have an afternoon drink. Lovely little marble bar in a kind of indoor / outdoor setting. the gallery blends spaces together in an interesting way. also there are chickens but they’re not TOO close in case your friends are odd and afraid of chickens....
A beautiful space in two buildings, cutting edge art, knowledgeable staff. The spaces are well maintained and theres a wonderful courtyard with shaded seating between the two buildings. And then theres Manuela inside to satisfy your belly with creative sustainable food. Valet parking is a good idea since street parking is at a premium.11/2/18, Calder exhibit.2/17/19 Piero Manzoni2/23/19. Fell in love with this entire space. First and foremost this is an art gallery, surrounded by splendid restaurants and common areas. This is definitely a fantastic cultural hub to go during the weekend. Despite they are plenty of food options nearby they have on the premises a great restaurant and bar called Manuela. Go and discover the current contemporary art. Amazing
Love this! Galleries, a bookstore, a shop and restaurant all under one roof! A creative atmosphere surrounded by artists and explorers.
It’s been quite the tray visiting this place. Great place to eat get drinks and enjoy the Art. It’s your one stop shop in the arts district.
A nice art gallery featuring a variety of exhibits surrounding a central square and a restaurant/bar. If they’re showing an artist you like definitely stop by. Parking can be hard to come by so plan ahead. Or just take the light rail and walk south a few blocks
This is a beautiful and intriguing space. I enjoyed my visit, and definitely enjoyed the amazing Annie Leibovitz exhibit. Will certainly come again!
Incredible space in DTLA.The building is impressive and hides the collection of things inside beyond art including a stunning restaurant, shop and garden.
Definitely worth the visit! High ceilings, open spaces, good contemporary art exhibits, open air restaurant & even chickens on the outdoors
Very nice art gallery located in an industrial building.Entrance is free and you can eat in the cafeteria serving locally produced stuff like eggs (hens live here!) or some locally grown plants!Nice concept
I love checking out new exhibits! Most recently enjoyed the Art & Life in Figi. Amazing how resourceful and creative people can be and how fortunate we are to experience different cultures and ideas.
Wonderful exhibition about Lucio Fontana!Do not miss it!!!!
Hauser & Wirth staged in LA one of my favorite Alexander Calder shows. The gallery always has interesting exhibitions. Do not miss their shows if you are in LA!
I love this place! With so much to see and absorb its hard not to keep this purveyor of fine art on the top of the list. Tucked away in one of my favorite parts of dtlas art district, its easy to make a trip to H&W a whole day thing. Tons of places to go for drinks and bites, plus art art art... Youd be a fool to not enjoy what this art gallery has to offer.
A must see in the arts district. I stop over for a cocktail and wander the galleries every time Im in LA. Never ever disappoints
Cool creative space adding culture and entertainment to DTLA. There are a few revolving exhibits in the rehabbed space, separated galleries, theres a very cool boutique and a small garden with chickens
Wonderful gallery complex.
The open space gives people room to enjoy the art work and incorporate them in to the communal spaces
Very chill and unique place. Theres a cute garden with a chicken den and a couple art galleries mixed il n with a classy restaurant.
Very cool place. Really cool use if a former industrial building
I really enjoy the gallery, the shops and restaurants. Really a nice place to go in the DTLA Arts District.
Fun spot for procurement of art, food and coffee table books.
Loved the Annie Liebovitz show. Thanks for not charging a fee too.
Overrated space. Expansive former grain mill with in interesting post-industrial architecture but only three rooms containing postmodern pseudo-art. The building best serves as a background for the instagram stories of the self-flagellating bourgeois class of LA.The museum shop sells $500 bare wooden bowls and raw ceramic mugs, while the bookstore hawks left-wing extremist propaganda tomes by Karl Marx and Angela Davis, almost exemplifying the hypocritical dichotomy of the coastal elite. Also, try to ignore the smells of human feces wafting inside periodically from the roving denizens of skid-row patrolling the streets.
BEAUTIFUL building. There are no words to describe how amazing it feels to stroll inside the Hauser and Wirth gallery. Don’t hesitate to visit. This place is worth it.
Impressive communal place / art gallery with a big courtyard, monster plants, herb garden, chicken coop, restaurant. Remainders from the former flour mill are still present.
Amazing place hidden in Arts district. Nice ambiance and free art galleries.
Fantastic complex of exhibition spaces with courtyard and native garden. Must visit!
Love this space. They always put on the most impressive and engaging shows. Free too
What a great spot to stroll around
An international gallery in LA. Exhibition changes so check before you go. a Nice space to wander around. Visit the bookstore, if you enjoy good a selection of art books and magazines.
Astonishing gallery space. Amazing architecture. Great book store and gift shop. A real crown jewel of the Arts District
A nice art gallery featuring a variety of exhibits surrounding a central square and a restaurant/bar. If they’re showing an artist you like definitely stop by. Parking can be hard to come by so plan ahead. Or just take the light rail and walk south a few blocks.
Hauser & Wirth is a large art gallery in the Arts District of LA. Its open every day except Monday from 11am-6pm. Its in a beautiful industrial building with an open-air courtyard in the middle. Flanking the courtyard are several smaller art galleries offering free admission. A very cool, trendy bookstore is in the front of the space and a restaurant near the courtyard. They often host events. For example, over the December holidays they host a craft market for holiday shopping with all local artists.
Cool settings. Great atmosphere. And art..
Interesting place
Beautifully restored building, public garden with cute chickens, free entry into art installations.
One of the unique landmarks of todays Los Angeles. Please allow yourself some time with chicken in the garden.
From the compelling exhibitions, that are open and free to the public, to the many community events Hauser and Wirth holds, they’ve created a truly inviting and thoughtful space here. Also, the people that work here are wonderful.
Awesome place, but surprisingly hard to catch at a time when you can actually see the exhibits. Perhaps its just been my bad luck.
Fun event today!
A complete turnabout from a former flour mill, this gallery is timeless, modern, airy, urban, spacious and just an absolute pleasure. A restaurant in the center is also indoor-outdoor with spiffy food and service. WATCH OUT for parking, and try the streets. The lots are $$$$$
The Annie Leibovitz photography exhibit at Hauser & Wirth’s was amazing!! Her photography is breathtaking, and this exhibit lets you travel back in time to see some of the most interesting performers, and others, causally doing their thing. They had her show displayed beautifully. I loved the simplicity of the space, and the high ceilings that let in enough light to compliment the experience. There is an outside seating area, surrounded by beautiful murals, and dreamy lights stretching across the entire area outside. It’s in the Arts District, which is a wonderful area to explore on foot. Tip: Be Street smart but explore.
Accomodating and nice shop. needs more line though for more variety.
One of the great spaces for viewing art in Los Angeles. Generally blue chip artists with the occasional lesser know artist, the quality of work is always high. There have been a few shows that were amazing, with work that one does not often get to see.
This entire complex is the quintessential LA exhibit. It has a vibe that hits almost every single LA stereotype, from the buzzy restaurant which keeps chickens outside (In classic LA fashion, there is a sign outside making it clear that thy are using them for eggs rather than meant) to the artsy book shop to the great adaptive reuse architecture. While we were there, there was a great photo exhibit in two of the galleries. It was a free exhibit, but we would have gladly paid for it.Note that parking in the area is problematic! But, of course, its LA, so youll probably drive anyway.
Lovely venue and the courtyard is a sure spot to visit.
Beautiful location in the heart of the Artist District. Great space for a wedding or any other special event. The food was great as well
Great, you can go up on the roof and see a beautiful light show in the city.
This is a gem of a place. So much history. Its like transporting yourself to another era. Its a hipsters section of the city, parking its a problem, but again.. in all downtown
Just weird, in the best possible sense.
Top three galleries in the world. Cant thing of two more to name.
One of the coolest art galleries in town, if you ask me. there are lots of cool exhibits and it is completely free. some of the content is rated R, so discretion is advised for the young ones.
Amazing gallery.
Amazing that the exhibit Manifesto was free, as the outdoor Calder sculptures. The gallery is open and inviting. The restaurant and bar, facing the Calder sculptures court, is pleasant. All in all, a fine place to spend a few hours. Note: parking is tough. Public transport or Uber should be considered.
Went to see the Annie Lebowitz exhibit. Loved it and other exhibits within the huge building. Samantha at the information desk was helpful and nice. The gentlemen dressed jn suits were also helpful and kind. Really enjoyed the cotton&fiber exhibit. My feet wore out before I was ready so had to call it an afternoon. I plan to go back better footed and enjoy more of this awesome museum.
I cant think of any other art space with a chicken coop and a nice restaurant inside. Great place for spending an afternoon in LAs arts district.Very instagrammable if you want to be super LA about it.
In heart of Downtown LA arts district, this chain gallery houses a number of contemporary artist works that are for sale. It is a wide open space, with an on-site restaurant, Manuela. There are a number of street murals that were kept in original locations, and every wall has a work of art on it. The gift shop is across from Manuela, and has variety of items from jewelry, clothing, pottery, handmade greeting cards to kits to make your own camera. There is a public garden across from Manuela, where gardening workshops and art classes are held, and houses the Chicks of Manuela (who have Instagram account), a bed of herbs and vegetables to support the restaurant. This is the desire to support sustainability. The courtyard was at one time an abandoned warehouse. It was transformed into an open space, adding an Coast Live Oak tree with drought resistant plants. (Los Angeles has ordinance about excessive use of water, many fountains are not on 24/7 to conserve water)The exhibits rotate on fairly regular basis, so he sure to check website for current and upcoming exhibits. I went to see exhibit of Rolling Stone magazine photographer Annie Liebovitz. Amazing display that was walk back in time of events in my lifetime. Most of it was of 1975 Rolling Stones Tour of America, a joy because I am a huge fan! It also included her iconic magazine covers, and many of the celebrities from 1970 to 1983 that she captured. There isnt a parking garage or lot here, so youll need to find street parking in area, which is limited. Make sure you pay attention to the signs! Got lucky the day went and found spot in front of the hotel on Hewitt Street, but there is a lot with free parking on Hewitt a short distance from the hotel.Admission is free.
Great open space in the Arts District
Very nice, unique gallery. I love the open air outlay/architecture of the place. Very nice!
Lovely energized Art studio with excellent presentation and comfortable settings to enjoy the artwork. The book store is exceptionally wonderful and has amazing diversity.
Great place, enjoyed the exhibitions..But..Its really necessary all those bouncers?I felt like in a royal wedding
Nice place to visit with family and friends
Great art space, and place to explore David Hammons exhibit was brilliant.
Really nice museum. Lots of good shows coming through. Beautiful space. Really nice restaurant. Nice relaxing courtyard. H&W is just a solid place to come visit for the art, or just to for the nice walk.
PHOTOGRAPHERS YE BE WARNED. There are rules saying you are not allowed to use a camera in the courtyard or exhibition grounds. A phone is fine though. I don’t understand it either.
Wow. World class museum quality art set in disused factory and bank. With shop, book shop and pretty good cafe.
Very nice place.
Awesome art gallery with cool exhibits definitely recommend it. Also its in the heart of the arts district so theres cute shops and food/drink spots nearby.
An amazing art museum. The shows were well curated. Excellent presentation. There is a good book store and restaurant located on the premises. The Calder show was well done! The video installation amazing. The facilities are very professional. Read the history on the museum. There is no charge for entrance. In LA arts district.
Place to spend a day with family or friends. Great food and even art picture gallery a real experience
I live in the neighborhood and have been coming here frequently since it opened. The quality of the exhibitions is admittedly not of the same caliber as some of the larger and more well known institutions around town, but theres always something interesting on display and its all free at the end of the day. The public garden is a great addition to the neighborhood, a great spot to sit down and enjoy your cup of coffee or Salt & Straw ice cream, and my toddler loves coming to see the chickens which are supposedly the source of eggs for the restaurant Manuela.
Great space to view art. The current exhibits didnt really fit my taste, but that is personal preference. The restaurant and bar looked good, Id come back even if I still didnt like the art to try those.
Gorgeous space nestled in the Arts District. Free admission to the gallery and there is additional space to explore in the courtyard. A great place to refresh your spirit.
Really cool place. Take tour and then dinner.
Well designed, comfortable, space for art. Thoughtfully curated shows.
See the Leibowitz show and re-live the last 50 years with better pictures than you took.
This place is awesome.
Always innovative...deeply thought provoking exhibits...
Free gallery/museum complex with art book store, rotating exhibits, gift shop, and interior restaurant (Manuela). Exhibitions are generally well known contemporary and modern artists. High security guard / docent presence which is a little disconcerting. Overall an interesting space.
Visited the Annie Lebovitz exhibit and absolutely loved it. Plan for a few hours as youll want to pour over everything in detail!!
Great gallery space, fun outdoor space w lovely vibes and wine bar. For sure recommend
Great security! Everybody was great there I totally enjoyed the Hauser experience
Fun and free, ever changing exhibits, in the middle of the arts district, stop by angel City brewery why not?
Really enjoyed one exhibit (Candor) we saw, but not enough exhibits to see there. Parking was really tough and then we walked through most of it pretty quickly :(. There was a performance art presentation by a group creating extremely loud, random sounds, blasting over a P.A. system throughout the whole place. It looked like way more fun on the website. On the brighter side, its only a block away from a Salt and Straw ice cream store where we waited in a massive line for the BEST ice cream EVER before battling the traffic home. The area looked like there were some more random art galleries here and there but it would be tough to keep moving the car and not so easy to just wander. Would not recommend to most people.
Always great events. Atmosphere artistic & classy.
The book shop has a great collection and the space is beautiful. As its in the heart of the art District is a good starting point for exploring. The art exhibitions are free and worth a visit. The restaurant looked a bit expensive and snooty so I skipped trying that out.
This place is artsy and unique. They also have a garden area where cute chickens roam around. Wonderful place to visit if youre in downtown LA.
World-class exhibitions along with fantastic food and a terrific book store. Dont miss the chickens!
Best gallery ever Im pretty sure. Cant wait till the next neon show. Girl with the sandals that gives tours is the best!
Annie Leibovitz pictures were pictures of the time, my childhood. Great exhibit.
This gallery is the size of a small museum. Always a pleasure to visit and walk through the various galleries. The bookstore is fantastic and worth a visit on its own merit.
Overrated and the first time i experienced art and was left discouraged. More about who knows who and being trendy and i always thought art was for all by all. I could feelsee and hear pretense and elitism and racism. Everything- i thought art transcended. This was my experience. Chickens were the highlight.
Love this exhibit. ..take your time here. .Read andThe artist uses materials around her I. Her art.the story ...Accidental Records. a must see
Spacious gallery. Good Restaurant. Nice interior courtyard.
Fabulous venue for an afternoon viewing art downtown. Have not yet eaten here but there are quality food options available. Really great concept well-executed with very high-quality exhibitions.
