Musical Theatre West at the Carpenter Performing Centre Is a top-notch regional theater company producing excellent shows with a A-list performers. How fortunate for those of us in the Long Beach area to be able to experience these wonderful musical plays. We just saw Ragtime this past Sunday and the production values were spectacular from the music to the sets to the costumes to the scenic projections and more. All the actors are triple threat performers and we are lucky to have this high-quality Performing Arts Center to attract these amazing thespians.
Spacious facilities used for early voting to LA County residents.
Ragtime is fabulous, heart-wrenching, and beautifully sung and acted. Dont miss it! It may be set in the period right before WW1, but it is nonetheless timely. Imaginative, beautiful minimal set design keeps the focus on the characters. You will be glad you went.
Always a great performance...great actors/ actresses & wonderful voices as well. My neighbor includes me with her seasonal tickets. Thank you Lee.The shows are timely and seem to address the social issues of the day. Ironic how art adheres to the cultural cries of modern man.
NOTE*This Rating is for the ticket package*( you buy 3 shows in the same seat)Buying direct tixs as you go rather than the package gets u better closer seats for same price. The pkg I got was 60 a ticket and my seat is at least 10 rows farther than purchasing a ticket at box office ( for the same price)On a separate score:Definitely the plays and playhouse: ——————>5 stars
We love this venue. Seats a little narrow, but aisle space is decent. Most seats provide good view. Not so large that you need binoculars from rear.
Ive been frequenting this place for four years now. I wanted to take my mother somewhere nice and this place definitely fills that nicely. It is a wonderful venue, you should try it.
A great place to walk.
Great productions! Easy to see stage from any seat, even with tall people seated in the row in front of you. Best community theater I have attended.
We saw their production of The Little Mermaid. We liked everything about it. The theater is not too big and the seats were comfortable. The casts costumes were excellent. The underwater scenes were great, the singing and dancing were spot on and the staging was pert. If this is representative of the quality of all their performance s we will be back. Go see it.
A beautiful venue. This particular show Holiday Inn was so much fun. Wonderful voices and spectacular dancing.
It is a beautiful modern facility for live theater presentations. It has lots of room for ones feet. It has stadium seating so you wont have to worry about someones head blocking your view of the stage.
The show was amazing! Every seat was a good seat. Very nice Center
Went there for a talk show to see Rainn Wilson (Dwight K Schrute from The Office). The Auditorium is spacious with ample seating area. Easily accessible via bus routes and has a lots of parking space.
The night was not so young but my little one and I decided to check out a show that was featured in the LA Times. We were super lucky to find street parking which I did not notice that there was a paid parking lot ($10) until we walked around to the front of the building. The lighting on the building was very beautiful which highlighted some of the past and upcoming shows. They had plenty of usher on hand to guide you and when we walked in there is also a section that will give the Wifi password if needed. The show went off without a hitch, the facility was very clean and the sound from the stage pitch perfect. Seating was easy and set so that where ever you are, you can see the stage with no problem. I will not hesitate to bring my little one here or for a date, this is a great location to view any form of art and a place where all can enjoy.
A great show tonight. Great venue. Ragtime was fabulous!
Im a huge fan of The Carpenters, so it was a treat to see the collection of memorabilia in the lobby. The theatre itself is beautiful with ample leg room for all.
Great venue. Have seen several performance there most recently Musical Wests Something Rotten. GREAT show!
Because my husband Craig sometimes played there & when he does, he can usually get two comped tickets. So I get to go & take a friend free for a really good time.
Saw Ragtime! It was amazing and Evelyn (played by Monica Ricketts) Has my heart.
First time Id ever been here, definitely not my last. Great place to see shows and concerts!!!
Nice venue. Good productions and ample parking. Lots of Carpenters memorabilia.
Great place to see a play. Even in the seats in the back, you still have a good view here.
The production and performance of ELF (The Musical) was magical and just what was needed to spread the Christmas Spirit. The timing of the entire production from the music to the dancing to the comedic timing of the deliverance of the lines was on par with a Broadway Musical. Its no surprise that many of the characters have performed in NYC and are crafting their art both in the theater and some cases on screen. There are no bad seats at The Carpenter Theater as its size maintains an intimate setting. Long Beach is so fortunate to to have this theater and to support the arts through its foundation.
The Theater: Mid size theater, every seat is good seat. Great sound system. All the ushers are very friendly and helpful. They all look like volunteers. Lobby has pictures, items and story about the Carpenter. They also sell drinks and snacks. Very well maintained theater. The Show: Singing in The Rain. What a classic musical~ Excellent production!! Many hits songs. All the performers have beautiful voice. Very impressive how they bring the rain to the stage!! Highly recommended show~ Perfect show for the family outing! The Parking: Big parking lot (fee) and street parking (2 hours free)
Ive lived in Long Beach since 1980 and never have gone here till last month to see The Little Mermaid with my granddaughter this place is just fabulous front seats too so it was really nice to see up close and to view the orchestra over the ledge there. Great value for Entertainment price.
If you like the Performing Arts, this is an excellent place to enjoy a musical or play. Weve been going there for years, parking is close and at ground level. The attributes of the theater are excellent. Not a cheap date but for those that enjoy the Performing Arts it is well worth the trip to this facility.
We went to the Carpenter Center to see Oliver with Davis Gaines. It was wonderful. The venue is very nice. For those who may be concerned, there is a bit of walking around involved and several steps as well. It is, however, handicap friendly. There are some gifts you can buy, beverages for purchase, and the bathrooms are available. The seats in the auditorium are fine but the rows are a little closer together than I would like to see. But overall, a good, reasonably priced venue with a great lineup.
We have attended a number of musical productions at this theater. It is not very big, but the performances are usually very good. Parking is ample, but attendants only accept cash. In this day and age it would seem like Long Beach State (who is in charge of the parking) would be able to have hand held card readers for parking payment.
Beautiful theater. Not too huge, so theres not a bad seat in the house. Something Rotten was fabulous! Hilarious!
Parking is easy and close to the venue. A little pricey to park. The customer service is wonderful. Not a bad seat in the house.
A beautiful venue, with large aisles. You can see from every seat in the house
Beautiful theatre, beautiful performance by Miranda Sings/Colleen Ballinger and all her family, Im in love!!!! Also the staff were SO helpful and SO kind. Magic in the air!!!!!!!!!!! :D
Very large theater with great seats and even better musicals.
Great entertainment, clean friendly staff, promotes youth and involvement.ove the musicals!
Nice theater however should have center aisle
I love this theater. Not a bad seat in the house. My husbands barbershop chorus performs here each year. It is always a good experience.
It is a great venue. Beautiful theater.
Saw Ragtime. Great contemporary story line.
Not a bad seat in the house. Good sound.
Parking here sucks, impossible to get out of that stupid lot. Park in structure if you can youll get out of there a lot faster. Captain Scott Kelley was very entertaining, worth seeing and bring your kids, as he will inspire them to be the best they can be.
Nice easy place to see a show. Ample parking that is very close. Drinks are reasonably priced. Sound quality is good. View is good everywhere.
The Theatre seats 1,200 but there are no bad seats in the theatre. You can see well from anywhere.
Listened to Antonio Sanchez play drums live while watching Birdman. Then watched and listened to Mr. Sanchez do a most awesome drum solo at the end of the movie. Amazing!
Nice clean people helpful organized i love this place thank you.
Good mix of different types of entertainment in a great theatet
Very close to home at CSULB. Nice theater with good acoustics. Wish they had more things Im interested in seeing.
Went to this place for the first time to see Elf The Musical. Its a nice theatre. The stage is surprisingly big compared to the last local theatre I went to. Parking is $9. Cash only. I showed up early, parked, walked down the street to eat some pho, and walked back to pick up my ticket. Looking forward to being there gain.
Great theater. Anywhere you sit is a great view of the stage.
Support musical theater for youth enrichment by your purchase
This theater provides excellent entertainment, and it is easily accessible to the Long Beach area and environs. Tickets are more reasonable than the L.A./Hollywood area. Parking is $8, but on the same property and an easy walk. A lovely theater with lots of seating.
Musical Theater of West always a delight.
Great Venue for almost any show I would imagine.
We have seen several Musical Theater West shows here. The sightlines are good and the acoustics allow for hearing everything no matter where you sit. There is a separate fee for parking as the lot is part of Cal State Long Beach so bring cash for parking unless you arrive really early and are able to grab street parking.
Comfortable seating with great views from any seat. Plenty of parking. Museum inside of the Carpenter family history and awards.
Wheelchair seating is not great. Lots of stairs everywhere. But the staff is very very nice and the acoustics are OK. Probably 4.2 stars.
Best sound...lighting...sets..orchestra..every seat is a good seat...wonderful staff...u need to go!! Its Long Beach best..
Production of Bright Star was first rate! Moving, emotional and visually beautiful. The Carpenter Center is s great venue.
Nice place. Clean and friendly. Saw the Pink Floyd Laser show here. The parking is easy but small spaces and expensive. Tight with a truck.
Been here many times. Every seat is a good seat. Parking is a little slow when trying to exit.
Comfy seats, large rows, good sound
I havent been to any other art theater so I cannot compare this with something else. But my experience so far was pretty good. They host variety of shows and performance every month. If your are a CSULB student you can score free tickets around campus.
In the realm of theatrical theatres, it definitly isnt the best one Ive been to. But, I guess its good for SoCal.
Oliver was well done. Seating was excellent. Great experience.
Saw the Little Mermaid. Excellent performance.
Quick parking ten per car theater is very nice
Saw Oliver. Great production. Terrific children.
Excellent venue. Large but not too large. Very nice and I enjoyed all the Carpenters memorabilia!
Fabulous venue for plays and concerts. Not a bad seat in the house.
Cool college theater with smaller productions and cheaper prices.
One of the best theaters in southern california, with an amazing array of programming ... from musical theater to comedy to cabaret and classical. Cole Conservatory holds top notch concerts here and at nearby Daniel Hall. Lots of parking!
The performance was stellar. The space is noteworthy.
Its a great venue but the acoustics are not what I expected.
Really great place to see a great show in our own back yard. I love Long Beach
Great theater. Excellent sight lines. Large stage and pit allows productions that other venues cant handle. Check out their shows
Not a bad seat in the house.
Excellent venue with easy parking
Always a good night and the ushers are so helpful. Elf, the Musical was such fun and we love the wide aisles!
Ive seen 3 performances here so far. Beautiful theater and great experiences. Cant wait to go back.
Pros: Its a very clean theater. There really isnt a bad seat in the house. The hosts are always very friendly. Cons: The concessions is not very good. The seats are not very comfortable. Center seats are very difficult to get to.
Nice place, theater, uglie smells inside.
Very nice and comfortable venue...
Mary Poppins was one of the very best performances Ive seen. The sets were great, the choreography fantastic! Im a season ticket holder and look forward to all my visits to the Carpenter Theater.
Great job Kendra
Viewed and enjoyed BRIGHT STAR, especially the surprise ending. Great casting, superb voices, super orchestra, band and choreography.
Always a great place to see a production. Parking is easy, staff is very friendly and not a bad seat in the house
Great performances by the Musical Theatre West group. We have great seats. The ladies room line moves pretty fast. And there is lots of parking!
Well organized, this beautiful venue also has terrific sound quality.
We are regulars. Excellent location & venue for many different types of art.
The plays are great.
Saw two performances there. Excellent actors. Great acoustics excellent programs
Nice work, if you can get it. Is one of their best productions ever. Saw it twice.
A wonderful venue for musical theater and other preforming arts. There are long rows with no aisles. To exit during a performance or while audience members are still seated requires deft maneuvering and the requisite excuse me...The womens restroom generates a long line, especially during intermission. The line moves quickly... thankfully.Named after the [1970s] brother/sister pop duo, The Carpenters. The venue features gold records, Grammys & music equipment belonging to them.Coffee, snacks and other items are available during intermission.Easy parking... Quick exit.
One of my favorite theaters. All good seats.
