Mike, our dog Melville and I had a WONDERFUL experience with Christina at the estate this afternoon.Of course the tasting was amazing but Christina’s hospitality was EXEMPLARY as the outdoor tasting area filled up quickly. She single-handedly poured everyone’s successive flight (How could she remember who was ready for which pour??) amid COVID-19 restrictions. Thanks Mr Melville for naming your winery after our dog and thank you especially Christina for your hospitality and sharing your deep knowledge about viticulture and the particularities that makes Melville our favorite! Cheers!
Unfortunately I dont think I can recommend this Winery. Our group of 4 booked a reservation were seated promptly on a cute patio overlooking the vineyard with more than 6ft between us and any other tables. Unfortunately the service was absolutely unacceptable. We were often left with long periods of empty glasses. We had a server change halfway through our tasting, with no handover or introduction. The new server restricted their interactions with us to announcing the name of the next wine to be tasted and pouring our glasses. When I come to a winery, part of the experience is getting to listen and find out more about the wine, vineyards and area.
I really liked the scenery here. I came with some friends for a tasting in my birthday. Whoever was helping us was nice, but she was very preoccupied with other guests. We only had 4/5 tastings. And it was about 15-20 minutes between tastings. Cheese and hummus board was ok. Took a long time to get water. At the end, we had to go inside and check out because she had not come around and we had reservations elsewhere that we did not want to miss. Maybe having an extra employee there to accommodate several groups of people would be nice in the future! Would like to go back and have a different experience that is hopefully better than my first!
Love this place. Amazing grounds. Has a Provence vibe to the area. Structured pinot and crisp Chardonnay. Well worth a stop.
Amazing winery and vineyard. Delicous wines. Great outdoor area setup with tables and benches. (Social Distancing rules apply). Plan a visit and enjoy!
Great wine! Became a wine club member.
Such a lovely spot and delicious wines.
We really liked this winery. We tasted the reds and found 3 out of 5 were to our liking. They also had a white tasting, but thats not our cup of tea. It was the end of the day, so we hurried out tasting, but well visit anytime were in the area. The patio looked like the perfect place to have a picnic lunch and relax with a nice glass of wine.
Melville offered some of the most delicious pinots weve had. The wines were delicious. The host & space was a little less than desired, however. The vineyards and outdoor areas are gorgeous. Definitely come for the wine– you wont be disappointed.
Such a pleasant place to visit if you like wine.
Amazingly Beautiful and Tasting
We were so underwhelmed with the tasting room staff. The wines are good but the personality of tasting room staff was bland. Come on people, at least act like you enjoy your job & the people you are serving. We are amazed at tasting room staff that lack personality.
One of my favorites, this time was no exception. Was surprised to see the sparklers, really enjoyed the Blanc de Blancs. Mike took good care of us.
Fantastic wines, Alvin might be the coolest guy in Cali. Great place to visit!!
Fantastic!
Great wine wonderful atmosphere wine tastes where yummy. Would highly recommend.
Great wines. The Somelieurs begins the counter were phenomenal!
Beautiful, smallish winery with peaceful, beautiful gardens for picnic or a great bottle. Wine is fantastic. Ask for Bill in tasting room: knows his subject, funny, personable. ..a great host!
We stopped here for a tasting as my wifes maiden name is Melville. The tasting was so good we joined the wine club!
Very nice area and atmosphere. Good pricing on tasting. Wine was below average. Prices per bottle were the exact same at the vineyard and at a wine store in San Luis Obispo.
What a beautiful place! Alvin was just fantastic! We learned so much!!
Some of the best wines in the area. Pinots were all quite nice, some exceptional syrahs, and a couple of really excellent, knowledgeable pourers. The knowledge and the wine quality really made this the winery of this weekends adventure.
Astoundingly good Pinot Noirs here. Friendly staff. A lavender hedge to die for!
Great wines, pinot noir and Sarah exceptional
Nothing better in this region than these wines LOVE Them!
Melville makes excellent wines, and their prices ($30-$50ish for most bottles, with a lot at $30ish) are a bargain for the quality. The tasting room is spacious, but not too big, and the staff are great. Knowledgeable about the wines, the region, and the local goings on, Melville is definitely worth a visit.Melville shares a driveway with Babcock, so its worth popping in to both. Its just a few minutes outside of Buellton, and if you continue on to Lompoc, check out the Wine Ghetto.
Melville is pretty much the finest Pinot Noir on the west coast. There, I said it. Their Terraces PN is just jaw-droppingly good, and the rest of their line is also eye-opening. They make excellent unoaked Chardonnays as well, and great Syrahs and a lovely Viognier. But the Pinot Noir is the star here, the real crown jewel, the one bottle that tells you exactly what the wine from the Santa Rita Hills ought to taste like. Deep and complex and fruit forward without an all out assault, its stronger than most PNs but lighter than anything else. Its so complex and wonderful. If you are in the area, do visit. Theyre great people and they pour really good wine.
A school
Simply amazing wine!
