I love all of the wildlife found in this park! Also, there are some amazing views here! From the picnic areas, and throughout the trails, you can see through the valley into Littleton and Denver. Despite being only a few minutes outside of town, this place really allows you feel deeply surrounded by nature!
Nice views, big parking lot. I was shocked to find there were still spaces left when I arrived after 9am on a nice late summer day. The path is a bit narrow in places, so you have to pay attention to people who need to pass or are coming the opposite direction (but you should really do that anyway). If you bring your dog, your dog should be well behaved as you might have to get up close to other dogs and children as there isnt always a good spot to step off of the trail to let others go by. I did Meadowlark Trail to Plymouth Creek Trail for a nice 2.7 mile hike with the dog. Its only about 500 ft of elevation gain, which makes it nice for visitors and non-hikers and families and dogs.
I went biking and the bike up is nearly impossible to complete. It is very steep and very rocky in a lot of places so not a super fun climb, however as you may have guessed, it make for an absolutely killer descent! It was a challenging and satisfying ride on the way down and overall I had a great experience. Make sure youre prepared to carry/push your bike a good amount.
I was looking for a place to photo snow on the rocks. These were taken from road around the Deer Creek Canyon Park trailhead and not on trail. This trail does have elevation gain and sweeping view of red rocks at the beginning. Usually pretty busy as so close to town with these views but we were there at sunset after a snow so near empty lot.
Beautiful dog friendly hike. There are spots that don’t have a ton of shade so it’s not a good early afternoon hike but wonderful all the same!
Wonderful short loop, Meadowlark to Plymoth, 2.5-ish miles. Nice quiet hike in the afternoon. some up, some down, super rocky but hey, thats fun too. It will keep you in your toes. Some really great opportunities to see some technical mountain biking in action in a few spots too. Those peeps amaze me! My pooch loved all the smells too. Overall pretty great Sunday afternoon.
Surprised by be this park with a beautiful creek and rocky outcroppings along the creek canyon. We saw a herd of elk including a bugling buck just a few miles up the canyon from Littleton!
Beautiful hike - you can do a short loop or go further! You decide! It is breath taking, both in scenery and in the hike! Lol! I’m just a girl from a Texas with some breathing issues, but I made it just fine! Just take lots of breaks!Well worth a climb!
Great hike! We really enjoyed this ~4 mile hike near Denver. It was a beautiful day and it wasnt too busy today. Will definitely come again.
Great trails for hiking and biking. Some spots are narrow, but the trails are well kept and easy on the soles.
A nice park that has multiple trails for hiking ranging from moderate to advanced.
One you bike up past the first 2 miles the upper portion is a lot of fun. Not too busy.
Neat area to hike. It’s great for LONG hikes. Went on the Polymouth train and it was decently steep inclines. If someone is unable to do high inclines, I would suggest another trail. The paths themselves are very nice and well kept.I went on a very nice day in January but that meant it was busy. Unsure if it’s always that busy or just because it was great weather. If you’re looking to hike and not pass/see anyone, this may not be the place to go.This park does allow dogs, so that’s great! The park is pretty clean and has bathrooms by the parking. Didn’t see any soap though - may have just been the one time, but I would bring sanitizer.
There are a lot of trail options so one could do quick hike or long, the views are great, the trails are fairly rocky so watch your step, leashed pets and bikes share the trail with you and the restrooms and picnic areas are clean.
A little packed today but great for dogs, bikes, kiddos, ect. Not very shady in many spots but the loop is nice and goes by a stream.
Great swimming area. Its not a real beach but its close enough to enjoy the sun and water on a warm day.
Less than 20 minutes from town, with a couple of different routes to choose from, one can do six or seven miles in 1300 to 1600 feet of elevation gain. Plus the vegetation and terrain varies throughout. Excellent public amenity.
Fantastic park, lots of hiking trails, very close to town. Nothing super strenuous but will definitely get your heart pumping. Amazing views on all of the trails. I would highly recommend hiking in this area.
Went hiking with my dog around 9am on a Sunday morning. The trail was already pretty crowded with other people waking with dogs, cyclists, hikers, and trail runners. It was a nice hike. It was very hot. So I recommend taking enough water (and enough for your pup if you’re taking your dog with you). The hike would be more pleasant if other dog owners picked up their pet waste. If you want a quieter hike, you’ll need to hit the trail earlier or on a work day. Also, a lovely woman on the trail warned me to keep an eye on my dog as there are rattlesnakes in the area. I appreciated the friendliness of those who shared the trail with me that morning. So if you’re hiking with your pets or children, keep an eye out for rattlesnakes (and perhaps hike without listening to music trough headphones so you can pay attention to the area).
Beautifull drive passing the red rocks and parking is spacious when arriving to Deer Canyon Park. Nice hike! Good trails and plenty of people to say hello to. Good for walking, running and biking. Deer are here too!
Great views and a nice trail. It isnt too challenging, and great to take your out-of-town visitors to. The trail does indeed go all the way around, so you wont have to turn back. Once you hit the top youre halfway ;)
Love going here someday I will find a pot of gold
Nice early morning hike. Unfortunately the fires made a beautiful sunrise.
Great spot near the sw metro for a hike. Gets pretty busy on the weekends and there are large portions of the trail that are not shaded. Best earlier or late in the day. Portions of the trail feel as if you are walking through someones yard, but overall a fun, easy hike.
It can get pretty crowded. Which means muddy if it rains or snows.
This is one of my favorite places in the entire world! Ive spent more time on these trails than I can count. I always have wonderful days here and always encounter the friendliest people.
The hike to the scenic view is intense but worth it!
A nice hike once you get into the canyon itself
Great little place for a scenic hike with the family.
Park employee on-site during my Saturday hike. Very informative details for different trails.
Parking is a bit hard to find on busy days, but it is a gorgeous hike regardless.
This is a great and easy hike for late April/early May. It gets really green and beautiful during that period. However, after that it gets dried ... The trail is well maintained and the parking lot is pretty big.
Did the easier Rattlesnake Gulch trail with the family for the first time. Despite being a lower key trail, there was still some rock formations, views and fun to be had on the short almost mile long trail out of Deer Creek Canyon Park. This trail does come out onto Grizzly Drive and then you have to cross W Deer Creek Canyon Road so be wary of the sometimes fast traffic along this road. The trail is also utilized by mountain bikes so keep a head up for them as well.
Beautiful park, with great views and rewarding hikes. The weekends can be a little packed, but the weekdays and early mornings are pretty empty.
Great Home and views. The plymouth trail is a good vertical with tons of great terrain!
Beautiful and well kept.. Will absolutely be back here. Went for a 7.3 mile hike today... Took roughly 3 hours.
Rigorous short hike about 3 miles, great views!
This is a great place for mountain biking and hiking. It’s proximity to Denver means it can get busy though especially on the weekends. As with most front range trails it can be very steep and challenging and you will need to have a decent level of fitness to really enjoy it.
This is my favorite place in the front range to trail run. Beautiful all times a year. Challenging to run every time. Can make a nice 13.1 mile course that covers just about every trail. Also can make a nice 2 mile loop that has a scenic view of the city. Park rangers are very helpful and friendly. Sometimes set up informational tables at the start of the trails.
Always a pleasure to hike the Red Mesa Loop ~
Lovely hike starting at Rattlesnake Gulch. Easy gradient, lovely views.
Beautiful and clean. Parking is kinda tight, so be sure to get there early
The first mile &1/2 very rocky I havent ride Deer Creek in over 10 years now I remember why. Talk to a guy with a motor assist bike he couldnt make up the rock section either.
Beautiful hike/walk! Not too crowded, dog bags and bathrooms at the trailhead.
Great hiking. Fun times. Great for beginners. You do have to watch out for those people on there mountain bikes though. Great scenery.
Love this hiking spot. Since the fire its changed a bit but still breathtaking veiws and proof why we need to appreciate our landscapes
First time taking a mountain bike down and actual mountain trail. Cant wait to do it again. The trail is very challenging but an absolute blast. Great workout.
My favorite hiking trail close to Denver so far. Mountains, plains, trees, and desert. Lots of options for trail lengths as well. 10/10
Nice trails without a lot of people
Beautiful country. Mountain views are amazing.
Beautiful and quite park with gorgeous views and well maintained paths. Do be cautious of ice though especially on Plymouth Creek Trail. It will hurt your rump if you go down!
Great trails, seems to get crowded early though
Its a very convenient place for a backyard walk... i quit going there dues to sentimental reasons for a quite a few years, till a couple of years ago when I knew I had the courage to go back...
Beautiful trails!
Pretty views and really cool rock structures are scattered throughout the park. The park is kept neat and clean and there are a variety of trails to choose from. Parking is plentiful, and there are port-a-potties and trail maps at each trail head.
Will not answer phone or return your call to verify if they found some clothing, left after a wedding. Very unprofessional.
Nice little escape from Denver yet very close! The top trails are amazingly quiet and I certainly appreciate the reprieve from the business of the city. Thus far, it seems everyone shares the trails well.Dogs are abundant and have never seen any issues. The trails are well maintained and easy to follow. Great views too!
Great trails for all different levels of experience and abilities
Super narrow trails, science deniers running amok (not wearing masks), super close quarters=not a good experience
Beautiful rise
Such great trails. And the views are incredible too!
Some nice views, but no easy trails like my wife would prefer.
Loved it. I recommend going off the trail. I like climing nearbye mountains and seeing the view.
This place is incredibly beautiful! all kinds of trails for every type of hiker.
Too many bears in the morning, too many hikers during the day, too many mountain lions at night. The park still hasnt recovered from last years fire.
Great place to ponder life in 2020
Had an awesome hike with my son and cousin! Beautiful and great weather!
Current Conditions: As of 3/24/20 the first loop is extremely muddy and also contains snow and ice (on the Plymouth side). Only hiked the first loop instead of going further because of the mud and snow conditions. Otherwise this is a great hiking trail.
Beautiful trails, good parking, trails that dont allow bikes. Great all around park
Great park for hiking, from easy to challenging. Quiet and a nice park to walk your dog.
Great open space with options for hiking and getting away from the city with just a short drive.
More than 10 miles of trails, much of them steep or rocky, but none too difficult for a casual hike. Great views of South Valley Park nearby.
Cool park west of the city. Had a good time hiking around and seeing the sites.
There are tons of beautiful trails and friendly people. There are a few less populated trails which go more up the mountains. There are levels of trails for every hiker. They have a bathroom and drinking fountain in the parking lot.
Almost always crowded at this park, so I dont visit as much even though it is super close.
I went hiking here a couple times now, there are both challenging trails and easy/moderate trails. A lot of wooded areas and great views when you get up higher. Two times Ive run into dear while driving up there, which its always awesome too see wild life around. I will be going back!
One of so many wonderful mountain parks in Jeffco. Im a trail runner and this is just a great area to get in a few or a couple dozen miles. I also appreciate that they have separate ped and bike access from the trail head. Just a great locale to get your outdoor fix.
Amazing views! Trails ranging from easiest to most difficult.
Great hiking trails close to town. Be careful of rattlers in the scrub oak lower elevation areas.
The trail is so much fun and has some great views
Love this place. The Red Mesa loop at the top is brilliant!
I love the hiking trails here, there is a good mix of hiker and mixed use trails. Most of the trails have good shade on them as well. My typical route is about 7 miles which includes one of the scenic overlooks. Ample parking, good bathroom facilities and picnic areas.
Beautiful views, harrowing up the mountain drive that is totally worth it.Strongly recommend bringing water and snacks as the switchback drive can take some time. If your kids are young and active, this may not be the location to ring them to unless theyve already eaten.
Nice hike, not too busy. Fire damage is visible but not rampant.
Nice hike but dont leave any valuables in your car. Our car was broken in (broke a window) and they stole my wifes purse. Be careful!
A beautiful place to hike! The trail is pretty well maintained with some rocky parts. Only a couple of poop bags along the trail. I sure wish I would stop seeing that!
Beautiful views and great hiking!
Nice place to hike but the trails are underwhelming. There are definitely better day hikes along the foothills of the frontrange.
Beautiful hike. Starts off with switch backs and as you go up the mountain you get a lot of nice views. Well worth the hike.
This is one of the best close-up trails. Hands down. Something for everyone.
One of my favorite hikes. If you want to keep it simple stay on the lower 2.7mile loop
