It is a really cool museum and its free. They have a lot of interesting things and a lot of history. There are 15-20 different areas and it is huge. Very nice people, very informative, and its in a great location. They stay open by way of donations. So please give!

Very beautiful area downtown to explore especially with free admission (donations happily excepted) and 1 hour parking validation at the Double Trees garage across from the museum. Not really a hands on top of place but lots of things to see and read about including multiple changing exhibit rooms. Dont stick your head in the cannon (ask the helpful people at the front desk why! Its a good story!)

This place is awesome! Plus it is free to get in! The old historic state house is beautiful and has been beautifully restored and maintained. The exhibits were great and I really enjoyed the recreated rooms. This place is large and ada compliant. They also have a play place for small children. If you like history you definitely need to check this place out! The place also has a small gift shop.

Free entry, but you should leave a donation in the box. Great museum housed in what used to be the old capitol building/governors mansion. Excellent displays of the history of the building and Arkansas government. Also contains exhibits on natural history, paleontology, cultural artifacts dating to antiquity from many cultures, a big machine gun confiscated from the back of Bonnie & Clydes car, and a kid friendly selfie booth. There are also displays of ball gowns from former Arkansas first ladies including Hillary Clinton and a room full of memorabilia from each Arkansas governors election campaign. And, of course, there is a display dedicated to the Clinton presidential campaign. The museum also a railroad room for children and revolving exhibits of state artists/notables. When we went, there was a display of guitars from an Arkansas guitar maker. Highly recommended for a low cost (or free if youre truly strapped) outing with the kids or without. Front yard and fountain is excellent for bridal and other photos.

What a wonderful place to enjoy strolling around looking at items that are apart of historical events. The Museum has some old fashion flair and could use more interactive features like holograms life of old presidents or just Arkansas in general..The best part this place is free to enjoy on a nice day when you walking the Downtown area I definitely recommend this place as a hidden gem.

The grounds were beautiful and had a couple of exhibits. The museum itself was free if Im not mistaken and we wandered through the whole place. Arkansas has spent a considerable amount of money on this building and I highly recommend that you visit if youre in this area. There is a lot to do in this immediate part of town but it only took us about 20 minutes.

Enjoyed learning about the politics of Arkansas. Was horrified at how a certain political party that pretends to have the poor and minorities best interest actually used them in some terrible ways back 70 years ago or so. Come here to learn more and your view of the world will certainly be challenged as was mine.

The Old Statehouse was a very interesting place to visit. I spent about 2 hours there and was very impressed. In addition to exhibits on the history of Arkansas, there were exhibits on celebrities who were born in the state. I also enjoyed the exhibit of gowns worn by the first ladies of Arkansas. The upper floor has been restored to show how it looked when the early state legislature was located there. The setting of the Old Statehouse was beautiful. It sits on the bank of the Arkansas River. I highly recommend this stop to all visitors.

We enjoyed the history of the building and the exhibits. Also really enjoyed The First Ladies of Arkansas exhibit. Our only negative comment is that the young lady that was at the front desk was less than welcoming when we arrived and then when we were leaving at 4:15 the gift shop had already closed. We asked the same young lady if she could help us and she said she really couldnt. There were 3 employees there at the time but we had no luck in being able to purchase anything. That was disappointing. Maybe could beef up their costumer skills a bit.

A lot of the rooms on the second floor are getting new installations. A person wouldnt know if s/he could climb stairs. Since my son and I have to use the elevator, we had to have a guard escort us through some areas. I felt rushed because she was waiting on us to take her lunch.

Very informative curator.A significant portion of the museum honors the women who have helped to launch Arkansas forward. A wing is dedicated to quilts as well as other rooms depicting womens contributions to society. There is currently a Greek exibit. There are artifacts from early cultures. Obviously, there are a large number of exibits relating to historical figures throughout the museum.

The Old State House is a wonderful (and free) attraction downtown. If youre looking for an exciting museum for the kids, head down the road to the Museum of Discovery. However, for history lovers this is a great museum. The exhibits are average, the real reason to come is for the building itself, it has a nice view of the Arkansas River and a stunning and classically Southern facade.

When I came here, I thought they would have a more vibrant view into Arkansas history and the rooms looking like they were in the 19th century. I felt like they turned it into a convention center. They had a lot of traveling exhibits. That was not what I came for. However, they had a faint view in a room that did not look like the 19th century and the old House and Senate chambers.
