Nice hike. Not too hard. Wore a mask. It was quite busy on a Saturday.
The hikes leading up to the mill are awesome, and going past the mill the red path gets pretty tough. It was a really great day walking through the paths. The creek is really fun to watch and to get in once you need a break from the climbing. The water moves quick, but not enough to sweep you away. Highly recommend.
The river is the prettiest part. The ruins are neat but you can’t go down into them to get a closer look. They did film part of The Hunger Games here!
Really cool place to explore. The ruins are right on the side of the water and contrast a lot with the forest around them.
A great place to hike.
Very scenic Park. Clean and safe
Quick hike to the ruins! Lots of beautiful lilac butterflies and wild berries!!
The ruins are on the Red Trail which is a mile or so from the visitors center. It is a moderate walk but becomes difficult beyond the ruins.
New Manchester Mill Ruins are located inside Sweetwater Creek State Park on the bank of the creek few minutes walk along a shaded trail from the Visitor Center which contain more historical information. The original mill was built by slaves in 1847 and destroyed by federal troops in 1864 during Civil War. It is worth visiting while you are in the beautiful park. Parking fee in the park is $5 per car, not person. Unless you have a Georgia State Parks yearly pass.
Nice hike. challenging but not too long and with interesting destination.
One of my favorite places of all time! Love that more people get to enjoy it. Stellar paid hike with an awesome guide. Ask for Andy if you are interested in Native American history.
Beautiful place for walk and make memories with your friends and family.
Peaceful place in Atlanta . So beautiful, clam, relaxing and definitely the best trail . You are undoubtedly going to enjoy the nature .
Great views fun for a nice family walk
Absolutely beautiful right by a nice river waterbank. I was able to learn that thismill was hundreds of years old and the structure is solid.
Cool building on a nice hiking trail. The ruins are fenced off, but I heard you can go in w/a tour guide from the park. I recommend doing the red trail so you can walk along the creek. The red trail does have some rock scrambling, so be careful if youre only use to flat terrain.
Beautiful! Trails are very clean and well maintained. Great experience.
The ruins were really cool! We didnt get to go in them but we did get to walk all around them.
This was a cool place to have a photoshoot with my new DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone. I enjoyed the entire trail. I took the white trail around. It was tough when I went up the brown trail, I ended up tripping over a skull while running up the steep hill. You should definitely visit sweet water creek park
Always a beautiful experience and an easy trail to get to the ruins. Well worth the trip! A LOT of historical information too.
Great place for a hike or to cool down on a hot day. Good for lingering lazily
Lovely hike along the water. Ruins are very pretty.
Nice trail. The historical story is very interesting.recommended for a walk with the kids.
Great spot for some photography, hike or to relax and enjoy nature.
Great park for family dun and great hiking. Enjoy a nice splash in the river. Leashed pets are allowed.
We hiked along the creek to the ruins and were a bit disappointed that we couldn’t go into the old mill. It is fenced off and you look at it from platforms up on the hill. The mill was destroyed by General Sherman’s forces on their Atlanta campaign in 1865. It was a target since it had been producing the material for Confederate soldiers’ uniforms.
Always love coming here for a hike. The park is wonderful. Great trails. Good fishing spot if you just want to get your hook wet. Plenty of places for a picnic. Pet friendly location. What more can you ask for.
Its fine, but its always disappointing when these sorts of places are fenced off. I totally understand why it is, but still... Good to look at a bit from the trail
A wonderful hike to an old mill site
Beautiful place for walk and make memories with friends and family but theres no have any tourist guide in that place when we arrived.
Very nice walk and beautiful scenery. The Mills are fenced in so you cant physically get to them which was some what disappointing.
Great hike with beautiful scenery! The only downside is that the park is crowded.
Love Sweet Water Creek State Park as a whole. I have annual membership and hikes there regularly
Very peaceful place for visitors. My wife like this one from her soul!!
Beautiful, if only people would clean up after themselves!
Cool little surprise on the trail.
This was a fun little hike. Hike is super short and easy. Th old Mill ruins are beautiful and you can play on rocks in the river. Great for a picnic, photos or just chilling with nature. It was a little busy and finding parking took a minute but definitely worth it
Beautiful day and nice trails. The staff is very friendly and you want to be sure to check out the animals in the visitor center!
Great trails. Red trail get very difficult and technical. The mill ruins are really cool. Make sure you soon up for a tour so you can get the history of the mill and surrounding area...very interesting! Crawling on the rocks is also a lot of fun. Be careful though, nearest hospital is not super close!
Since I was a kid, sweetwater has been a favorite escape!
Get there early. Parking space could be limited. Many many people parked at roadside in the park. Parking condition will improve later as a parking lot is being built. Has boat rental. Great visitor center. Shelters are great for about 40 people gathering.
If you have a high energy and water loving dog, you have found the place.
The trail to the ruins was pretty easy. Going down further, the difficult trail was fun as it weaved asking the creek.
Absolutely Amazing. Do it!
Beautiful! There is too much to do in one day. We will go back soon!
Great park..never knew existed after 5 years here...great for kids...families...exercise and hikes...$5 ENTRY per vehicle..be careful with dogs getting into poison oak or poison sumac...dogs love swimming there
Had a great few days camping woth the wife and kids only thing i would change would be how far the trails are from the tent sites if walking its a mile and a half before even getting to the trails with 3 boys ages 8, 6 and 4 that can be a task
Great trail only 1 mile to ruins
Fascinating History and great walk along the river.
This seems to be a great place for a walk or jog. We stopped to waist an hour before our flight out of atlanta. If you are overweight or have any medical conditions I would not recommend the red trail. It would have been great if there was information concerning each trail posted before entering. We walked what seemed like 15-20 minutes and still had not made it to any ruins. We ended up turning around and going back out due to time limitations.
Really nice hiking to the Mill..Great for getaways or just enjoying nature! The guides are good if u use them..its a lot of history in the park
We loved it most people go shoping on the day out in the city we decide to find whatever nature we could and it worked out great here.
A great hike. And yhe water. Was cool down
Nice river side trail. Red trail is short little difficult. But worth the view.
Beautiful view, has multiple seating spaces for great pictures.
What a Hike Peaceful Easy Feeling. Life is good.
Beautiful hike, pretty ruins! Bring your swimsuit to play in the creek and cool off. Not too long of a hike and very shaded so not too hot. Pet friendly and kid friendly!
Nice easy hike in the woods, very kid friendly
This is a great place to come and enjoy outside. It can get crowded on the weekend but its because this place is awesome. There are multiple trails of various terrain, it is always worth walking down to the mill ruins.
It was a phenomenal experience to visit these ruins. A very easy walk to see them as well. The more challenging trails happen just after seeing the ruins. The grounds are well kept and it was beautiful to see the water rushing by as you journeyed through.
Photographers Morning Out - great hike with our interpretive ranger. Got a history lesson, pictures of the rapids, and an inside look at New Manchester Mill.
Scenic view of a cotton mills ruins.
Great spot to visit
Beautiful
Great place to visit, great hiking and nice environment
This is a beautiful place for a walk and a hike. Bring water to drink. Wear rugged shoes that have good soles to grip dirt and rocks. If you venture past the mill ruins, be prepared for treacherous terrain. One wrong step and you could take a dangerous tumble.Watch your young children closely because there is easy access to rushing river water. The trail is beautiful but there are very steep areas that are challenging to navigate. We took a wrong turn and ended up on a FIVE-mile hike! Grab a map at the visitors center so you know where you are going!
Nice place for a hike. We did the 5 mile loop around Sweetwater Park. Was moderate to difficult in places. Very muddy due to the nonstop rains as of late. Nice pavilions - were going to come back and picnic here sometime.
Followed the Red trail - fairly easy with a couple of areas that get the heart rate elevated. Follows the river with a few areas to sit and enjoy the sun/shade and water. Pretty busy, we went in July and parking was a headache. Have to pay for parking, but that is all of Georgia and their parks.
Very cool place to spend the day. I have a lot of respect for the men that built these walls to direct water to the mill, some of these stones are huge. A great piece of history
Great little hike to some cool ruins. Would have liked to have gotten closer, but it was fenced.
Still great trails to enjoy
History factory
Great hiking trails with several different distances, terrific places to go fishing, and some awesome spots to go play in the creek! The ruins are pretty darned cool too!
Beautiful scenery but this section of the park is often crowded.
Beautiful, but not much to do outside the guided tour. Great place to put up a hammock and walk your dog
Beautiful! But they charge 5$ to park :/
Relaxing and nice place to visit.
History lesson with a great hike and beautiful views.
Been going to this location since 1977 to escape the GA summer. Cooler temperatures in summer due to shade of trees and the flowing water allows this to be a very nice walk. The footpaths are much more developed now and the park see a lot of use. A must visit for the peace of the greenery.
Walk, talk, bike. Creeks. Waterfalls. Canoes. Our new local getaway minus getting away.
The ruins are a neat little piece of history, and the trails in the state park are beautiful.
Great hiking trails
Our guide Andy was wonderful. Great hike
Such a beautiful place.
Beautiful. Hunger games 2 was shoot here.
Beautiful ️.
Very nice place for a stroll or jog
Great hike, but dont expect to get close to these ruins... theres a fence!
A great view into history!
Clean fresh air
Really pretty and some interesting history. Plus the trail it is on is beautiful!
A nice place for an afternoon adventure
Sweetwater is a great hike
Very beautiful!! Took my boys hiking and they enjoyed it tremendously
