One of my favorite places to go for a nice, long walk. There is plenty of open space to just relax & enjoy nature. Many individuals will come here to take pictures for weddings, senior photos, etc. Any hike you take will not be too strenuous as the trails are not hilly. We can spend an entire day here just putting a blanket down & lay back. Have to go to really appreciate the area.

Absolutely beautiful setting. Place is so large it is easy to find a trail and stay social distanced.

Nice place for a picnic and hiking. Trails could be marked a little better. Could only find a port-a-potty, no toilet.

Beautiful trails ranging in difficulty - great for kids or walking dogs. Pick a different path each time which is fun for exploring. Plenty of out-houses as well which is nice. In the parking lot they have a little set up with bags for dog poops as well as a receptacle for dog poop only. There is no pavilion or large covered area. There are a few picnic tables - 1 in a small shed type building near the main house, 1 near the pond, 1 off the trail near the pond, and a few along another trail near the fields. Pack a lovely blanket and lunch and set up on the lush grass for a wonderful morning or afternoon. Be prepared to bring your garbage with you as there arent any garbage receptacles - most likely to discourage bears. Some trails are where some horses are allowed to walk so you may need to watch out for horse poop. Topsmead is a beautiful and peaceful place to spend some time or go to take some beautiful photos, you wont be sorry you went. They do guided tours for the main house on the weekends.

Definitely one of my favorite places to visit for a stroll and spend an afternoon at. Its beautiful, well maintained, and theres plenty of space to roam around.

The entrance way needs to be paved, other than that this is such a great place.

This place is fantastic. Not just for its beautiful grounds but the wonderful walking trails. Dont miss the must see museum house tour. Very informative and fun.

Lovely little hidden gem! Picturesque grounds, plenty of free parking, good walking paths, and very dog-friendly. It even has a portable toilet, should the need arise.

I love the gardens and rolling hills of this State park, its a great place for pets, picnics, and peace.Ive witnessed many photo shoots, and even apple picnic. What a great gift Edith Chase left us all!

Topsmead State Forest is a place of natural beauty. It hosts several areas to walk with breath taking views. A very peaceful setting and great place for the dogs to run and enjoy as well. Mind clearing experience.

We did our business and personal photo shoot here. It is gorgeous and well kept. I emailed the staff beforehand with questions and they were very friendly and accommodating. We will return there for walking and trails because there are many throughout as well as beautiful fields. I highly recommend a visit in early fall!

I am a wedding photographer from Della Bella Photography based here in Connecticut, and I have had the opportunity to photograph at Topsmead State Forest many times over the years. This location provides great opportunities all season long, it is very unique with blooming flowers in Spring, Summer and Fall. It also has an English Tudor Style property with surrounding gardens and a great field for sunset.

Beautiful views, easy walking, but sadly, again people please LEASH your dog, as well as clean up after them! Nothing ruins a hike/walk than an ill mannered dog & their human.

Very well maintained mostly flat open field walking, wouldnt really call it hiking but very pleasant lots of birds good explanations of wildlife etc.

Beautiful ° The setting and the scenary warm the heart !!! The paved/gravel paths are well maintained and have moderate amount of foot traffic. With beautiful views of the litchfield hills. The wooded trails are well marked but unfortunately the unwanted hitchhikers (ticks) leave with you..

Always a beautiful place to walk. Fields, trails, and meadows to enjoy. Bird blinds, wild flowers, and the gardens around the main house. Bring a bag lunch and just enjoy.

The best time to go is early spring when all the many flowers are blooming wirh the different colors and fall with the color changing of the leaves when you come at the right time of winter its so spectacular.
