Im simultaneously happy and sad this place isnt as utilized as it should be. Found it after holding a large work team gathering with tons of games and food. The park employees were super helpful with that so I was happy to come back with my family. Lots of hiking trails, brilliant foliage, natural setting. Ive lived in multiple places in the country and Lake County has been the best park experience of all of them.
This place is right by my house so we frequent the trails often. The trails are well maintained and always marked if weathered. Appreciate the outdoors... even though its still Illinois!
Beautiful forest preserve for a leisurely walk through the woods in the late afternoon. Not a lot of people around and it was really peaceful here despite being by the expressway and smaller than most preserves. Extremely well maintained trail with bathrooms as well. Did a combination of the blue trail and yellow trail with the dog in about 45 minutes. Will return for a longer walk!
Lots of great trails in the midst of tall trees. Great place for hikes and cycling . Multiple parking lots inside with ample washrooms and water fountains. Also, the open parks have a grill, large sheds and lots of benches making them great for a summer grill get-togethers.
Beautiful park with various parking areas and trails of different lengths. The only reason I give it a 4 is that certain things didnt make sense. Many of the mile markers were missing in the woods, many some area didnt have trash cans, there was an ash disposal pit at one place but didnt see any outdoor grill spaces or patios, and the exercise spaces need some TLC.
This was a various wooded area with many bike and walking trail/path options. The main road is a one way with many trail heads to choose from. There are various ponds as well. Birds and small wildlife were plentiful. My pup and I went on a Sunday late morning, about 10AM, and it was not too crowded. My pup was off-leash most of the time and the paths are nice and wide.PLEASE follow the prompts for each pathway as there are paths for walking only and other areas to bike. Some of the trails have plenty of shade (The Pink trail) while other are direct sun exposure. Watch your step by the ponds edge, frogs a plenty line the perimeter.
Love to run the fitness track. Nice quiet spot to work out and be alone for a little.
Well maintained paths. Very clean. Nice autumn colors
Perhaps not the most scenic, but certainly tranquil, clean, and they have an awesome fitness trail full of calisthenics equipment
Great trails, very clean either people care or they do a great job cleaning up
Loved this forest preserve! Great place to walk the dog. The only complaint I have is that its extremely loud and you can hear the traffic so much. Not the forest preserves fault at all, just something I noticed. Beautiful scenery and trails. They are kept up nicely, you can tell. Love that there is natural exercise equipment along the trail. Whomever planned this place out, did an excellent job. Would love to come here more frequently in the spring, summer and fall. The trails are quiet in the winter and are great length. Not too long, but wind and twist through beautiful forest. Definitely would recommend to others.
Lots of covered gazebos with bathrooms to rent for parties etc. Great walking trails. Well manicured and natural at the same time
Very nice first preserve with cross country ski paths, trails, horse trails.
Very nice place to walk with your familyband pet
Lovely trails. The only thing I would like changed would be added signage or color coded posts for each trail.
One of the best forest preserves go for an evening walk during summer
Fine area, well designed! Would be better if bathrooms were open!!!
The forest preserve is very quiet and serene. Perfect place to hike in summer months as it’s full of shade. The trail around pond is also nice.
Nice for exercising, but there are prettier areas nearby for walking, sightseeing, and birding. The paths are not well connected, and the ponds are close to the highway.
Relative easy to maintain social distancing while exercising. Easy path with great access to a playground and two fancy bathroom buildings but those might be closed during this pandemic. The path is open and connects with the des plaines river trail. Preserve goes in a circle and has 4 fast drying benches. And one bench high up on a hill with one exquisite view.
Great hidden bit of nature, although crowded in some parts. Noisy from the nearby highway, which cant be helped I suppose.
So nice. We picnicked then went for a trail walk. A great day!
Nice variety of terrain, some small hills, which is unusual for a very flat state, nothing too challenging. love the pond, except for highway noise
Nice bike paths and picnic areas.
Great location to walk and get away for a bit
Love love it! Very kid friendly.... my children love it as well....
Great hiking trails and obstacles to do while you are hiking.
Nice area for picnicking and walking. Well groomed trails for biking also.
Love the trails! People are normally friendly. And they have areas to use for celebrations.
Great LCFP able to walk dogs on trails.
Good place for a jog or stroll, lots of shade in the pink loop
Great bike trails
Cute park and great spot for a rest stop
Lovely park and recreation area with numerous hiking/biking/equestrian trails through wooded environment. A few scattered ponds. Clean restrooms. Plenty of parking and some picnic areas. One of my favorite parks in the area with opportunity to see deer, birds, butterflies, and other wildlife. Close to highway, but minimal sound unless right next to the road.
Very peaceful, easy walking trail
I love going to this Forest Preserve. I work down the street and like a lot of people I go here on my lunch breaks. Its nice and easy to just pull in off of rt 21 Milwaukee Ave and sit next to the lake. Way better than being in the break room listening to my coworkers complain. I highly suggest it. And its always well maintained.
I enjoy visiting this little park on my commute home from work. It gives me a nice place to let the stress from the office go before I get home.
So beautiful!
I’ve been walking/and or running with my dog/dogs here since 1997 and have loved it. It’s quiet, well maintained and people respect others on the various paths and trails. However this morning around 10, my dog and I were chased off the yellow trail by a coyote. It came upon us quietly from behind me so much so I didn’t even hear it. I keep walking hoping it would leave us alone but the next thing I know it was within a few feet of us and and baring it’s teeth. It kept following and menacing us until I got far enough away that it stopped. I’m sure we were near it’s den but I have never been so afraid in my life. Please watch yourself and your dog/dogs if you frequent this trail.
ENJOYED the ride PEACEFUL .
Would be nice if horse owners picked up after their horses
Nice natural wooded and green place for group outing. Good place for Jagging and walking.too.
Beautiful always clean
Great for family adventures or sum boo lovin alonetime!
I have been going to the Old School FP since it was even a forest preserve. Roughly 52 years now - grew up across Street. Marys Rd. Beautiful spot for hiking, biking, fishing - long list. Visit there and enjoy this beautiful spot as well as surrounding forest preserves.
Its the best forest preserve around and it has workout stops along the inside trail!
Really neat, they are doing a lot of clearing dead brush and trees away, opening up the under growth for more sunlight and letting small trees and bushes grow. Very few people were here when we came so it was almost private.
Beautiful location for sunset up on the hill!
Beautiful facility. Was there for a wedding and it is a great location.
Cause its beautiful who ever mows that big hill is crazy though
Beautiful! Private, very nice, clean pavilion with plenty of tables and close to bathrooms. It was perfect for this very special day!!
Very well maintained trail. Nice to have multiple distance options clearly marked.
Great trails, unfortunately there were mosquitoes, even in October!
Still a little muddy and icy but by far a really nice 3 mile walking trail.
I love running here, and my dog loves going on walks and exploring nature.
We hosted my grandparents 65th anniversary party here. The patio was clean and the bathrooms were fine. The park was pretty and well maintained but the park rangers made it even more special. They came by at sunset to make sure we were packing up and ended up, hanging out, and teasing my grandparents for a while. It was a lot of fun and it was so nice that others joined in.
My favorite thing is the 1 mile exercise lap in the woods. It is short enough for young kids and has lots of stops to excite them to keep going to the next one. Obstacles, monkey bars, lots of acorns to collect along the way. They will use these to race on the last stop, an inclined sit up board, they think it is a funny acorn slide. They also have a one way curvey road around the park that is great practice for new drivers.
Beautiful!
Wonderful running trails and fun dog trails. Go visit this place. Youre going like it.
Venue was satisfactory as it was last year. Nothing special, but nothing bad to say about it either
Quiet, great place to explore nature or just go for a run.
Nice place to chill, nice place to hike, nice place period. Beautiful pavillion style spaces for big functions with large meadows to wander. A nice sled hill and some open spaces. A bit close to the highway if you dont like the swoosh of cars in the background. Lake County has done a nice job with this place. There is some real money invested in the facilities.
Nice quiet preserve, theyre making a ton of progress with the buckthorn removal and prairie restorations.
Nice place for get together if weather is good...
Ive been going here my whole life. Often doing the circle 1.5 miles. Biking running rollerblading.Trails are great. Ponds are cool. Sled hill fun.Worst part is the highway. Very loud. The road needs to be freshly paved. Or made with concrete instead of asphalt.
I love bicycling and running here. In addition to the loops within this preserve, you can access the Des Plaines River Trail, which runs the length of Lake County. Tip: if youre just using the trails, park in the first lot by the entrance. Otherwise youll end up having to drive (slowly) around the whole one-way loop to get out.
Many trails, clean and accommodating shelters. Small fishing lake. A bit noisy from nearby highway.
Hosted a 5k here. Great trails, nice bathrooms and plenty of parking.
Nice trails, clean facilities; easy connections to other longer trails. Sled hill!
This is one of the few places I can do 13 miles and not get completely exhausted, theres enough diversity in the scenery that I dont get too bored.
Great quite area. Not a lot of people come here regularly so it is nice and still. I like to ride my bike through some of the trails for mountain biking practice. In the winter they have an amazing sledding hill that is loads of fun.
Beautiful scenery
Hmmm dont remember too much about this place..but the important question, was i pulled in, or backed into a spot lolol
Partially shaded
One of the favorite place for the whole family. You can walk, bike ride, enjoy with Nature, snow hill, restrooms year around. Everything you need in one place!
Very nice
Shelter A - beautiful area, lots of room for kids to play. Always a pleasure to come here.
It a nice place to observe coyotes.
Its a very nice Forest Preserve! Nice trails, fun hill for sledding in the winter.
Great location for parties and corporate events
Hike, bike, or ride your horse, Old School is a great place to spend some time
I live in the area for twenty years. I have nothing but love for everything around me.
Tookma nice walk on path here today. Didnt know this place exhisted
Great access point for dpr
Beautiful
Not a bad park in the system. LCFP is the best!!
Excellent trails, mostly crushed gravel; with beautiful surroundings.
