Im simultaneously happy and sad this place isnt as utilized as it should be. Found it after holding a large work team gathering with tons of games and food. The park employees were super helpful with that so I was happy to come back with my family. Lots of hiking trails, brilliant foliage, natural setting. Ive lived in multiple places in the country and Lake County has been the best park experience of all of them.

This place is right by my house so we frequent the trails often. The trails are well maintained and always marked if weathered. Appreciate the outdoors... even though its still Illinois!

Beautiful forest preserve for a leisurely walk through the woods in the late afternoon. Not a lot of people around and it was really peaceful here despite being by the expressway and smaller than most preserves. Extremely well maintained trail with bathrooms as well. Did a combination of the blue trail and yellow trail with the dog in about 45 minutes. Will return for a longer walk!

Lots of great trails in the midst of tall trees. Great place for hikes and cycling . Multiple parking lots inside with ample washrooms and water fountains. Also, the open parks have a grill, large sheds and lots of benches making them great for a summer grill get-togethers.

Beautiful park with various parking areas and trails of different lengths. The only reason I give it a 4 is that certain things didnt make sense. Many of the mile markers were missing in the woods, many some area didnt have trash cans, there was an ash disposal pit at one place but didnt see any outdoor grill spaces or patios, and the exercise spaces need some TLC.

This was a various wooded area with many bike and walking trail/path options. The main road is a one way with many trail heads to choose from. There are various ponds as well. Birds and small wildlife were plentiful. My pup and I went on a Sunday late morning, about 10AM, and it was not too crowded. My pup was off-leash most of the time and the paths are nice and wide.PLEASE follow the prompts for each pathway as there are paths for walking only and other areas to bike. Some of the trails have plenty of shade (The Pink trail) while other are direct sun exposure. Watch your step by the ponds edge, frogs a plenty line the perimeter.

Loved this forest preserve! Great place to walk the dog. The only complaint I have is that its extremely loud and you can hear the traffic so much. Not the forest preserves fault at all, just something I noticed. Beautiful scenery and trails. They are kept up nicely, you can tell. Love that there is natural exercise equipment along the trail. Whomever planned this place out, did an excellent job. Would love to come here more frequently in the spring, summer and fall. The trails are quiet in the winter and are great length. Not too long, but wind and twist through beautiful forest. Definitely would recommend to others.

Relative easy to maintain social distancing while exercising. Easy path with great access to a playground and two fancy bathroom buildings but those might be closed during this pandemic. The path is open and connects with the des plaines river trail. Preserve goes in a circle and has 4 fast drying benches. And one bench high up on a hill with one exquisite view.

Lovely park and recreation area with numerous hiking/biking/equestrian trails through wooded environment. A few scattered ponds. Clean restrooms. Plenty of parking and some picnic areas. One of my favorite parks in the area with opportunity to see deer, birds, butterflies, and other wildlife. Close to highway, but minimal sound unless right next to the road.

I love going to this Forest Preserve. I work down the street and like a lot of people I go here on my lunch breaks. Its nice and easy to just pull in off of rt 21 Milwaukee Ave and sit next to the lake. Way better than being in the break room listening to my coworkers complain. I highly suggest it. And its always well maintained.

I’ve been walking/and or running with my dog/dogs here since 1997 and have loved it. It’s quiet, well maintained and people respect others on the various paths and trails. However this morning around 10, my dog and I were chased off the yellow trail by a coyote. It came upon us quietly from behind me so much so I didn’t even hear it. I keep walking hoping it would leave us alone but the next thing I know it was within a few feet of us and and baring it’s teeth. It kept following and menacing us until I got far enough away that it stopped. I’m sure we were near it’s den but I have never been so afraid in my life. Please watch yourself and your dog/dogs if you frequent this trail.

Really neat, they are doing a lot of clearing dead brush and trees away, opening up the under growth for more sunlight and letting small trees and bushes grow. Very few people were here when we came so it was almost private.

We hosted my grandparents 65th anniversary party here. The patio was clean and the bathrooms were fine. The park was pretty and well maintained but the park rangers made it even more special. They came by at sunset to make sure we were packing up and ended up, hanging out, and teasing my grandparents for a while. It was a lot of fun and it was so nice that others joined in.

My favorite thing is the 1 mile exercise lap in the woods. It is short enough for young kids and has lots of stops to excite them to keep going to the next one. Obstacles, monkey bars, lots of acorns to collect along the way. They will use these to race on the last stop, an inclined sit up board, they think it is a funny acorn slide. They also have a one way curvey road around the park that is great practice for new drivers.

Nice place to chill, nice place to hike, nice place period. Beautiful pavillion style spaces for big functions with large meadows to wander. A nice sled hill and some open spaces. A bit close to the highway if you dont like the swoosh of cars in the background. Lake County has done a nice job with this place. There is some real money invested in the facilities.

Ive been going here my whole life. Often doing the circle 1.5 miles. Biking running rollerblading.Trails are great. Ponds are cool. Sled hill fun.Worst part is the highway. Very loud. The road needs to be freshly paved. Or made with concrete instead of asphalt.

I love bicycling and running here. In addition to the loops within this preserve, you can access the Des Plaines River Trail, which runs the length of Lake County. Tip: if youre just using the trails, park in the first lot by the entrance. Otherwise youll end up having to drive (slowly) around the whole one-way loop to get out.
