The park is easily accessible from the main road and well marked around the surrounding area. There are quite a few picnic areas and plenty of parking. There are good places to settle in a take photos from, which was my purpose to visit the area.
There are two different sides of this lake. The State side with campgrounds and the marina. The camp grounds in the State park have very nice showers. The Federal side has a number of camp sites with good shower facilities. But by far they have the best swim beach in the State of Kansas. No matter where you go or do. Be smart quick and stay healthy.
Took the family camping for the weekend and stayed at campground 1. The location was nice and we were well spaced from other campers. Lots of activities to do in the area and we had a great time. We did have a problem with raccoons overnight though, they were literally unzipping the door to our tent to try and get to our food I’m assuming. I chased it off 3 or 4 times and it kept coming back. I ended up using zip ties to tie the zippers together so it couldn’t get in. Freaked my kids out.
Love camping here! Perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life
First time experiencing launching boat into the water. No wait, people friendly, and today the water was calm. Sunshiny day. Didnt catch any fish but had a lot of fun.
Camping spaces have plenty of distance between. Enjoyed the weekend. Not to be taken as a negative toward the park. Disappointed in other campers.* Massive amounts of mud was tracked throughout the restroom/bath house, both days. Staff cleaned twice a day; was and smelled clean.* Disposal of trash when leaving. No words! Was taught to leave a place better than I found it. Part of being a good citizen.
I love the outdoors, but have no desire to sleep in the ground or even a cot outside! The cabins at Clinton lake are a perfect solution for a person like me! Though they sleep 6, it was a perfect size for 1-2 people. I happened to have a reservation for the off season. At 65 a night, it is a good price. The view of the lake was perfect since the leaves had already fallen. I also happened to be there during a late fall early snow. I was absolutely warm and cozy. The kitchen ware was adequate. Enough plates, cups, and dishes to serve a crowd. There was dishwashing liquid, soap and a few towels, though I would still suggest bringing your own if you have space. The water was hot despite the very cold temperatures. I dont recommend contacting the cabin host, but the campground couple was pleasant and customer service oriented. Also, the camp office staff is very responsive. The one odd thing I noticed was plenty of outlets in each room! I have Cricket/ATT for cell phone and wifi. The signal out there is strong enough for me to attend a Zoom virtual conference. Of course, that will vary for each person according to the device your using. The trails around the cabin and lake are well maintained and clearly marked. Since you can reserve to a year in advance, I am already looking for my next getaway at the cabin by the lake.
Nicely Place campsites, lots of trails for biking and Hiking, hot showers, quiet, what is there not to like? And only $10 a night! For tents
First few days were awesome, it was pretty secluded and we had a really nice spot. The last day we were there, it filled up like crazy. To be expected with the current quarantine situation, but what we did not expect was for someone to move into our campsite. We came back from getting some food to a small, two person tent right in between our site and our neighbors. Directly where we park our car. Trying to blend in seemingly. Turns out they had reason to sneak in as my SO and I watched these people do heroin openly in their flashlight lit up tent. We watched a girl pull up, park directly next to our car, almost hit it, and then walk into this small tent with the others. We all know what she was doing there as she returned twice in the night. We tried to flag down a ranger, but to no avail as they patrol quickly and with lights off to not disturb campers. We are young and with no children so it didn’t bother us other than not trusting these two at night. But if you have children I highly suggest not taking them here. A little lawless. Not sure how they were even able to get into our spot with no reservation or park pass. The people that actually had a reservation that got moved next to us ended up leaving about an hour after they got there due to their site not even having a fire pit, and seeing the people that moved in unauthorized next to us. Was definitely an interesting time.
Very peaceful, the only thing that I did not like our reservation was in the middle of the Sahara and no shade trees, the sun was baking us... In the evening it was better and like I said was very quiet.
Nice campground. Bathrooms and showers clean and decently kept up. Close to Lawrence if you want to go into town for any reason.
Nice facilities, clean restrooms/showers, lots of shade trees. Very enjoyable stay!
We stayed here before and it was great, but tonight, not so much. The instructions for how to check in after hours make no sense, their idea of social distancing was to open every single camp site in two rows even though they arent 6 feet apart and close the next two rows, the camp host building was closed at 8pm even though it was supposed to be open until 9pm.
Great lake but a bit small. We bring our boat here often. We also camp here and the facilities are always very nice.
Nice place to spend a couple of day while visiting the Lawrence area. Just wish they would improve more sites to include sewer hook ups.
We came out after Memorial Day and there were still quite a few campers. We had a site that’s level side to side and on the end so we don’t have anyone next to us. Other sites are comfortably spaced apart. The bathhouse and toilets are closed because of covid. It’s about an hour from our house.Only draw back to park is the campground hosts have 3 dogs they leave outside and even watch them bark and carry on.
If you’re looks for the great outdoors is LFK then Clinton State Park is perfect. Great boating, fishing, hiking, and biking. Camping here is wonderful, bathrooms are clean, and the hosts are nice. It’s $5 per car if you’re going for the day. Right now, it’s very flooded and not much is open except lake Henry but lake Henry is fun if you like to fly fish because it’s stocked with trout. Overall, Clinton State Park is where it’s at for outdoor activities in Lawrence. Whether you’re looking to hammock, pitch a pent, or explore on foot, you’ll find it here.
Always love camping out here. The state campgrounds are in good shape and they continue to do improvements.
Horrible. Will not come back. Poorly marked sites. Even the reservations gave no guidance on which campground our site was located in. The worst bugs I’ve ever seen. Can’t go outdoors. Covered the doors.picnic table broken down, grills...ha! Concrete with a ring.
Beautiful lake. Family members had excellent luck fishing.
Has great restrooms! My camping space didnt have a picnic table when we got there. The park rangers drove by saw we didnt have one and brought us one right away! We didnt have to ask!
Really liking the archery targets.
I was very pleased with the park! Its a good size with lots of activities and nice lake! We only stayed a night but was very pleased. Lots of deer are in the park and it has a lot of camping spots. Though its about 3.5 hours way from where I live, I can see their may be another visit there in the future!
I wanted to just see these birds for hours...
Love this location, easy launch ramp, love the sunken trees, easy for friends to find who have never been there.
Was beautiful outside. Those stairs to the beach are a killer.I know its outdoors but I hope they trim back the weeds on the stairs. Pretty sure its poison ivy.
Very peaceful. Quiet.
Excellent boat ramps, camp grounds, beaches, and park restrooms.
Great camping & fishing sites along with walking trails
Lots of fun, we went swimming, fishing and kayaking. We stayed 2 nights and we were pleasantly surprised to see how clean the bathrooms were.
Nice isolated beach. Lots of stairs down to it though. Camping, fishing, biking and hiking all nearby.
We go kayaking here whenever possible. Get a pass that lasts all year and get outside. Big enough to explore over the course of an entire summer.
Crazy loud campers until 2:30 am. Called county dispatch and they never showed. Swimming beach is small and hardly any sand. Almost no native plants anywhere, just fields with bales of hay. Butterfly garden by camp office full of noxious weeds.
Clean areas with plenty of room for the family.
Spent a hot humid week with wifes family from Indianapolis and Denver. Great time, didnt get a boat, but found geocaching, hiking, biking, archery, spikeball, corn hole, and boce ball. Had a great time!
The park is great. Staff keep me safe. Clean. Very nice staff
It was really nice, other than the bathrooms by the lot being closed but overall still a 5 star.
Excellent camp ground and great people! Clean area, clean showers and the host were very accommodating!
Great park with plenty to do. Lots of walking and hiking trails, bike trails, a reasonable amount of shore fishing access, and well maintained boat ramps. My daughter is always well entertained.Campsites seem to be a bit close together.
Great lake! Not too crowded! Clean!
Its pretty solid! Good trails, beautiful remnant prairie, and a decent sized lake. The campground is well designed, but its not like Missouri campgrounds where the tent pads are designated and leveled and the fire rings and picnic tables are permanent. Because of this we arrived to a campsite with two tables and no firering. Luckily we had friends staying at the next site over and we were able to use their fire ring to cook otherwise we would have been living on cold hotdogs all weekend. We told the office worker but he just sort of stared at me lol. So uh, not super helpful staff. I recommend bringing your own foldable table and a camp grill just in case your site doesnt have the advertised amenities, because you probably wont get it fixed in time for breakfast.
Good camping and miles of walking trails.
Amazing lake, lots of family fun, clean camp grounds. Lovely place!
All bathroom are locked, they take our money to use the facility, but dont provide the facilities.
Beach is nice. Bathrooms are cleaner than one would expect at a state park
Water levels are finally down, good time to come out and support the park.
Great park! Could use more trails/markings for day walks/hikes though.
Great staff and the cabins are awesome but the swim area is poor
Amazing. So many activities! I go there for hiking biking and archery. But there are so much more. Free archery range. And a sweet bike course! Must go for bikers. Also great wildlife. So many deer! Say what to my girl Tina when you go there. Shes the cute one with the white fluffy tail.
Really cool lake! Went mountain biking here and the trails are amazing! There is one technical rocky trail and then a fast and flowy dirt one. Some of the best trails around Lawrence!
The trails are nice, the water and showers were nice. Heck, the whole place was really nice, however, when we were at the dump station we saw someone dumping their tanks without using a hose. They just opened the gate and dumped it towards the drain. Really gross. Id come back to the park, but they need to get a handle on that. We did notify the appropriate people before we left.
It was nice. The only couple of things I would complain about would be the not all the shower rooms were open would have been less waiting if they were, the other thing was quite time is at ten but the people next to us and a few others were really load. Im ok with people having a good time as we did but out of the respect for others we kept our noise level down, it would probably help if they have park rangers come by every so often until a certain hour of the night because the people next to us stayed up well passed 2am.
Nice campground...not easy to get to water
Great place to camp near KC metro area.
I spent a few days here in the late fall. The staff was very helpful. When we setup the camp, we discovered the 30A outlet on the power pole was bad. We called the park office and they had someone there to fix it in about 30 minutes.I am looking forward to visiting again.
Great park with recreational lake and plenty of trails for hiking, camping, and enjoying the out of doors.
A bit of info that you wont find when looking at their website: 1- the cost to enter the park is not included in the fee for camping ($5 per day) and 2- there are no sites with a clear view of the lake. Neither of these things are a deal breaker for us, but it wouldve been nice to know ahead of time. It was definitely disappointing to see so many spots being taken up by long term residents. Most of these places were decently well kept, but several were just trashy eye sores. This is not what I imagined a state park to look like. Its not all bad though, the sites were very spacious and clean. The grounds were well maintained. The bathrooms were okay, but could use updating. We enjoyed the hiking trails down along the shore of the lake. We will probably come back, but would really like to see a change in some of the policies.
Good trails for hiking/walking/running. Pet friendly. Lake very warm - warmer than bath water which wasnt that refreshing after a hot hike but still nice to be on the water. Saw lots of wildlife!
Nice place, clean bathrooms, lake nearby.
I think if you rent a rv site your parking should be included! Especially the vehicle you pull your camer with! Ridiculous
Nice trails and wide open spaces. Staff was nice. Lots of in and out traffic and they all seem to be in a rush to get somewhere. If youre hoping to get a nice view of the lake from those waterfront sites, go when the leaves have fallen or you wont see much.
Good fun great swimming for Littles!
Stayed here for a weekend camping trip. Beautiful trails and nice RV connections. There are many people who stay year round. The campsites were nice and spacious, but plan ahead when you book your site and get a shaded spot for hot summer days.
Dont get tired. Those steps are killer
Very disappointed in the trout at Lake Henry. Was there for 3 - 4 hour not a one bit. No one I saw catch fish.
Great place clean bathrooms, great camper spots that is level
Great place to fall camp
Lake Hendry is good fishing.
Covid 19...the cleanest bathrooms in Kansas grounds same way.
Great place to spend just a few hours or a whole weekend.
I’m such a huge fan of supporting state and local parks. Clinton is one I’m at pretty frequently. It’s not only beautiful, it has plenty of hiking and camping available all-year-round. For outdoor nerds like me, Clinton Lake is a must!
Great Park in Kansas. Very quiet, clean, great views, relaxing. Everyone is always courteous.
Well kept. Nice park.
Nice clean good service
Nice getaway from the hustle and bustle
As lakes go, pretty standard.
Our family visits the cabins every year. Every year they are awesome! We enjoyed the walks down to the beach. Best part about coming in the month of March is all of the poison ivy is dead. The worst thing is possible you might get a little bit of rain or snow out there. But welcome to Kansas! People do a really good job taking care of the cabins and the park rangers are very helpful. We actually broke one of the kitchen utensils and let the office know and they said no problem at all! We were happy to replace the utensil if they needed. Always well stocked with toilet paper and cleaning supplies. Bathrooms are spacious. Everything is ADA Compliant.
Real shady campsites and a decent beach.
Great place to go on a warm day lots of hiking little trails nice camping spots and swimming holes
Always beautiful this time of year!!!
Great price but needs signs/maps/staff to better help you locate your camp site. All full hookups have staff on them none available for reservation/paying customers. Need more full hookup camp sites. Disc golf course is a 9 hole not an 11 hole like the map shows and the new 18 hole is still under construction but useable.
A beautiful state park with several fantastic trails. Sanders mound is a wonderful place to watch the sunset.
Watch out for snakes. This guy was a bit aggressive but just keep your eyes open. There are snakes on the beach.
We always have fun when we go to Clinton Lake State Park
Really was the closest experience of camping that Ive ever had. I woke up and a family of deers were right outside of my tent. That was a beautiful moment.
Nice place to be one with nature! Clean and well kept. Definitely recommend going If you have a chance
A lovely park fil li ed with friendly people!
Worst state park Ive visited. Ive never before seen full-time residents at a state park, and now I see why others dont allow that. Junky sites, trash everywhere, dogs running loose, ancient RVs on blocks... Total eyesore! The beach is a torn up concrete parking lot. Some trails closed and others not well marked. Disgruntled employee working the park host booth who was too busy venting about being fired to help us check in after an 11-hour drive. Most sites are wide open, but there are some good shady spots with trees at the back of the campground. Toilets were fairly clean but showers were moldy, didnt drain properly, and didnt have showerheads so they sprayed everywhere. Wont be back. Wont recommend.
I would love to give this place five stars, because its very pretty, and my family and I have had some very nice camping trips here. The Park Rangers and Park Office Staff have always been very nice, helpful, and knowledgeable. Im not sure if the camp hosts are the ones who keep the bathrooms clean, but there was always someone around to clean a bathroom if someone left a mess in it... which brings me to the four star rating. Even the person cleaning the bathrooms said that all of the facilities needed updating, but they didnt have the funding. The showers had holes in the wall with moldy black stuff in and around the holes and shower fixtures. We stayed in Campground 3 the last time we were there, and judging by the recent reviews, it doesnt sound like the showers have been fixed. So sad, because we really like this place, and my family loves tent camping... I guess well bring a portable facility the next time we visit.
