The theater is really beautiful and they always have an interesting film showing. They also have cool live shows and the setup is perfect; there isnt really a bad seat anywhere.
Fun venue! Attended Mic Drop the annual fund raiser for The Willow organization. It is an old building and the roof sprung a couple of leaks during the intermission. Several of the guests stepped up and helped make sure the show continued. Thanks Steve Marcelli and all the others. It was a very fun if somewhat damp evening.
I was excited to see Poppy at Liberty Hall. The small venue is always the best way to see bands.I was disappointed in the ladies room. The venue had been open for an hour and 2 out of 6 stalls were usable. The rest were backed up and 1 was out of order. It smelt terrible in there too. Also the lighting had a lot of issues for the opening band. Very sad when the band has to complain. The sound was good and it was a nice view on the floor.
The venue itself is gorgeous but that’s about the only reason why I’m giving it 3 stars instead of 1 star. I saw Billy Corgan here a few weeks ago and the show was great, but I sat next to the annoying heckler in the balcony. People were constantly telling him to shut up, but it still took 12 or 15 songs in for security to finally throw him out. The “security” looked like a bunch of children who shouldn’t be given the title security because a majority of them were much smaller in terms of size compared to their patrons watching the show they paid money to go to. I didn’t pay $75 to have a guy shouting beside me the entire time.
Ive been to a ton of live shows before in St Louis, Marion IL as well, and this is the best place Ive ever been. Liberty Hall is an amazing place to see Live performances from your favorite bands!!! Its a bit on the small side, maybe 1000 or so people occupancy but that makes it better!!! It has an upper balcony for reserved seats but some unreserved seating up there as well (get there early if you want an unreserved seat) and an area ground side right in front of the stage for general admission ticket holders. Not a very large area so Again get there early if you want a good view. The place has a very nostalgic feel to it. An Old fashioned kind of vibe. I could tell that A TON of great performances had been played here!!! Go check the place out and see for yourself!!! By the way the band I saw here was Band of Horses (July 23 2019) and what a spectacular show they put on! Great job guys seriously!!!
This was my cousins wedding venue and it was literally perfect. Loved the popcorn. The bathrooms were questionable but not sure if I can blame the staff for that.
The Festival of Trees was fantastic...great event that I look forward to each year. Great decorating ideas
Nice views in an old classic yet updated hall. Comfortable seats, good lighting. Friendly staff. There are several steps and may be challenging to some.
Great old theater. Good for watching KU basketball games.
A great old venue for films and music. Dont miss out.
I got to see Band of Horses perform and it was awesome!!! The downstairs was crowded like I expected so I went upstairs with my friend and we sat up in the general admission seats till the end and it was amazing. 12/10 would recommend (would also recommend bringing earplugs cause it can get super loud sometimes)
I love the programming at Liberty Hall! They bring indie movies that arent being shown anywhere else in the area. Ive also seen quite a few concerts there, and its an amazingly intimate venue. However, I did deduct a star for the balcony seating. Apart from the center section, the seats have virtually no leg room. I am only 57 and my knees literally could not fit into the space without going into the seat of the person in front of me. This makes it very disruptive if someone in the row wants to get up and above all, its incredibly uncomfortable. I would imagine that individuals with limited mobility would have an extremely difficult time navigating those seats. Liberty Hall, I love you, but you are in desperate need of an upgrade to a more welcoming environment.
A mystifying venue, the perfect spot to catch a show!
I have had the pleasure to see so many high level bands / musicians at Liberty Hall in what is a friendly and intimate setting. Hope to see many more here.
Ive been to 3 concerts there and the lighting for all of them has been painful. It alternates between red and blue lights and its enough to give you a migraine. Additionally the rows are obnoxiously narrow and getting in or out is a major ordeal. My partner and I left the last concert an hour in because it was an arid 85 degrees.Save your money for the next time that band you like comes to the area, going to a. Concert here isnt worth the cost.
Went to the Dirtmonkey concert there the other night and will not be returning to this venue. The lines were insanely long, the price for tickets was jacked up at the door, and the staff were shallow and unfriendly. A few people I talked to were groped up in front of security at the front rail and security did nothing. I went out for a smoke break 30 minutes before the show was done and wasnt allowed back in even though I was over 21 years old. Maybe this place is good for cinema, but not concerts.
This is a maybe 500 seat theater. Its an older theater its been in Lawrence forever I have seen tons of cool bands here this is a little different for Todd Rundgren because theyre having actual seats in the general admission area. I would recommend. The stage was only 2 high the sound was awesome, The place is starting to get dated but I highly recommend. Very intimate venue.
Awesome place to watch a KU game!
The Liberty Hall was great. Sounds wonderful. Only thing hard was no railing up in balcony. A nice guy gave me his arm so I could get to my seat.Otherwise it was great.
The acoustic and atmosphere are incredible. Love the place so much!
Absolutely beautiful venue for a concert. Very intimate setting.
What an amazing venue. they have great sound, great staff and wonderful bathrooms. bonus star for not putting up with whiney people who ruin the vibe for the rest of us trying to chill and enjoy the show. have seen multiple narcs and whiners get kicked out for their lame attitude. if you wanna go see a show and whine, just stay home and watch the YOUTUBE highlights. I have been coming here for over 20 years and it just keeps getting better and better. thanks Liberty Liberty Liberty Hal.
Great place to watch KU basketball!
Saw Billy Corgan and it was awesome. Small venue, felt really close.
Very intimate venue great for concerts
Great movie rentals alot of older movies too that I love
Liberty Hall is a nice, smallish, theater setting for a concert. I was impressed by the building and its history, but the tiny, wooden folding chairs leave a lot to be desired in the comfort department. All in all, this venue is one that I would gladly return to for another visit.
I cannot say enough good things about Liberty Hall. Whether your looking to rent a movie or go to the theatre this is THE place to go in Lawrence. The ammount of movies for rent here goes way beyond anything you might expect. Matt Dillon stayed at the Eldridge hotel across the street and commented that Liberty hall beats any rental place in L.A.
Great history, great acoustics, not a bad seat in the house. Love the artwork.
Seats are not numbered so finding your seat here may require a little more effort than required elsewhere. Staff was attentive, helpful. This was a music concert and the sound was good.
Great place to see a show. Gave it 4 stars because the balcony seating leg room is too cramped! We fit our legs into the crammed leg space, but some people had to leave the concert on Sunday because they could not fit! Liberty hall should inform balcony seat buyers of the limited leg space.
Great Colter Wall show
Had a great time listening to Tree Frog perform. Liberty Hall is a great venue to see a concert.
Liberty hall is my go-to spot for indie film in Lawrence. Their staff are incredibly friendly and competent, and as a bonus they give away free full size film posters. Their theaters arent the best quality as far as audio and video projection go, but for what they may lack in quality they make up for with a unique experience.
Saw Gordon Lightfoot here. It was a GREAT show !!!A really cool place. Lots of atmosphere.
Good place on gme day
Great place for all types of entertainment in Lawrence
Great little intimate venue
We loved the show... Tommy Emmanuel was fantastic and amazing... The seating is rough. If you are tall meaning over 57. Or a heavier person you cannot fit the balcony seats. A warning when buying tickets could help. Older people with bad hips and knees really had trouble. The building and sound and being able to see was great.
Sound was not that good and took a great deal of time to get in door
This place has the best acoustics I think Ive ever heard. It is a historical building and is beautiful!
The little theater is like having a big screen in your front room. My go to movie house in Lawrence and Kansas City
I love going to movies at the unique Liberty Hall. Ticket prices are reasonable, as are the refreshment prices!
I love seeing movies here. Mostly artsy and films. The balcony seating is fun and the inside is so cool. Keep in mind it is in no was a modern movie theater with giant seats, but they serve a nice selection or reasonably priced snacks and drinks, including alcohol.
Great venue to catch a movie or a live show. The bartenders are super friendly, and the prices are great!
Come a long way..., since it was Lawrence Opera house. Still wonderful
This is hands down one of my favorite venues to see live music, and special showings of some great films too!
I’ve been to Liberty Hall several times and this particular concert was a bit over the top with being uncomfortable. I headed to my assigned seat which was very back row, lower level, and some woman stood behind me so close I felt she could breathe on me. At intermission a friend came up to myself and 3 others, as we were still seated, visiting, and an usher came up and wanted to know if she was causing trouble. Second half starts and the artist told some short funny stories, we laughed and an elderly couple a row ahead complained we were loud. For laughing? Just felt it was very unnecessary. My friends ended up leaving and I would have but it was Tommy Emmanuel. He was hypnotizing. I forgot to mention that when I stood in a line at 7:35 for the 8:00 show, the line was.formed around the Hall the whole block, yes I already had my ticket, and I get through, get my armband, purchased some concession and waited on friends to arrive. Getting close to showtime I went out door to see if they were in line and they wouldnt let me back in 1 minute later thru the door I came out of, and made me go through the line again! I missed the first 10 min. Never have I had to do that before.
Loved Loved Loved the movie Pavarotti, entire experience was great.
We always have the best time here. We watch great independent films and even the Jayhawk basketball games. They offer a great atmosphere for date night.
A fun venue with a small theater that plays independent films and such. I dig going here when I have the chance.
Always has the best stuff.
Beautiful classic Lawrence venue. Love the stained glass, tile work and deco features throughout. Have seen some awesome music acts of all variety here. Great vibes!
BEAUTIFUL. The murals in this building are so gorgeous. Shows are always great. Bar service is nice. Staff is always sweet and helpful.
Great ambiance and staff.
I love this building as an event venue, theatre, and historical location. As a native Kansan it holds a special place in my heart. As a music lover I couldnt ask for a better place to see an intimate show. The movie theatres are top-notch and the staff are all very helpful and qualified, knowledgeable people. Liberty Hall deserves its seat as one of the Top 50 Live Music Venues in the nation. See a concert, a speaker, a film, rent a movie or get in on one of the special events that this place organizes. Highly recommend.
Nice peoples. Yum drinks. Sweet tunes.
Its one of those places that winds up holding a lot of memories of the most enjoyable moments your life. A beautiful venue for music, dance, parties.
The main hall is a great venue for events. Ive done a number of things from help host fundraising events here to watch a third-eye-blind concert. This spot was particularly good for the concert because everyone could see front and center. The refreshment stations were never too busy because they had multiple set up and the hall doesnt hold too many to begin with.Great venue as a historical icon and also importantly restroom lines are a rarity.
Nice intresting venue
Always a fun time! And its the best place to go on your birthday!
Very uncomfortable small venue and very warm due to General Admission.Full of drunks and potheads and lazy staff. The standing room only made for a miserable night with drunks pushing and spilling drinks all over you. Staff were very unprofessional and allowed some drunk to light up a joint inside during the performance. AFTER complaining to staff the man was made to put out the joint, but was not removed from the premises. After complaining to staff that the man should be removed for violating regulations and placing all in jeopardy, staff became angry with us and had us removed because we wouldnt allow drunks to push us around to walk through us. If you want to risk your life due to ignorant staff, be pushed around and have drinks spilled on you all night,... then this is a Great venue for you.
Wonderful place to see a concert,,have a wedding party or wedding reception. Memorial for a loved one or birthday celebration for your spouse or friend. Right in the mix of beautiful downtown Lawrence!!
With more and more restaurants, bars, and coffee shops crowding downtown, Im grateful for the cultural experience Liberty Hall brings to Mass Street. You can tell they make an effort to honor that experience by bringing in good music and film. Some of my best concert experiences have been here - it provides a really intimate experience, despite its size. All too often, as a short person, I find myself staring at someones back for an entire show, so its nice to have the option to get seats in the balcony, even if it is a bit pricier. Its also been a great wedding venue for several friends of mine.
Everything about this establishment is 5 stars except the seats. I have long legs and the old seats are uncomfortably small. That being said, they go along with the rest of this old (in the best way) theater, the movie selection is fun, keep on eye on the Sunday retro-movie they have ever week, concessions are good, events are often great, rental shop attached is also very good. There are a number of seats with more leg room, you just have to be there early enough to grab one.
Came to see the Songs of Ireland program. Good grassroots presentation by good local folks.
Beautiful building and great staff!
Went to my first wedding there. It was one of my favourite of all time. Wedding and reception in once place was seamless. Macelis catering was great.
I love you Liberty Hall. This is a great place to bring a date for an indie movie in their charming theatre. the big theatre has a grand entrance with a balcony. the little theatre has exposed brick. This theatre also has movie rental which are awesome
Unique treasure. Wonderful staff!
I just really like having a theatre showing more artistic and serious films rather than only Hollywoods most popular movies. The seating and sound are sub-par by todays standards but I still love this place. They also have some live performances.
Amazing venue I love the people and the warm family feeling of the theater also love Bruce Campbell thanks for bringing him there we will be back
Perfect place for quirky indie movie that lets you bring in your own coffee drinks
The best staff ever!¡!¡!
Historic theater/performance venue. Intimate, superior sound system installed.
Great! Gordon Lightfoot concert.
Great venue. Definitely a favorite in LFK.
Great venue Love the smaller intimate atmosphere! 5☆s
We went to Liberty Hall for a Wedding. I thought they did a pretty good job setting up. The lights were kind of dim, but the bride and grooms first dance on the stage was very neat. The Bar was selling Free State beer for $6 dollars, which I thought was pretty steep, but Free State is only two doors down, so you could theoretically go buy a 6 pack of Yakimaniac IPA for $10.25 put it in your jacket and walk back in..... not saying I did that, But you could...
Pro: pretty close to the stage and great audioCons : Wow don’t sit if your taller than 5 ft, there is less than 3 inches of leg room at my seat I’m 6’2 and my bait and tackle (junk)were uncomfortably close to the guys head in front of me.
LOVE the atmosphere, quality of movies, prices and the fact that you can have a glass of wine with the movie. Only negative is the old style theater seats. And I would only deduct half a star for that!
Staff is awesome and so is the venue. If your coming for a show or even a wedding or movie, you wont be disappointed
Nice that they will show older movies on the big screen.
Great place to see a show, KU B-Ball, or a movie! Management staff is great!
Best place in Lawrence for a concert/show. Beautiful theater; plenty of legroom in the upstairs balcony. This venue is always cleaner that you would expect. Its like a smaller version of the Midland in KC. Come here if you get a chance.
Great vibe, friendly, fantastic show
Love it. Cool place. Great selection of movie rentals. Great place to see artful, indie film. Lit AF/5
Great place to hear a band or see a movie, parking is a bit of a problem BUT you pass 2 coffee shops and a micro brewery. you cant lose
Good venue for a small show. Chairs have zero leg room.
Definitely a staple Lawrence venue. The inside is more spacious than youd imagine, but apparently it always smells a little funky.
Fun venue, great place to see a live show. They also play great movies that you wont generally see at the big cinemas. They serve alcohol if you want a drink or four with your movie.
Saw Ben Folds Paper Air Plane tour there last week. Had so much fun. Never seen a bad show at Liberty Hall.
I love this theater! If you like classical movies and a theater that reminds you of the good old age, try this place definitely! Their movie selection is really good, and sometimes you are able to see a really good movie there, which is awesome!
