Stories Lake is a wonderful place to go to get out of the house for a day. Nice place to camp too weekend its open.It work sure be great if the park world extend their hours until 8:00pm to allow people who have to drive across the state to recreate a little longer. In my observation it would not make a difference with respect to the number of visitors. Open, open, open!
Beautiful lake and mountain backdrop. Pull through sites with water and electric. Rangers and staff very friendly. Next to Las Vegas new Mexico. Where they filmed the original red Dawn movie. The drive in theater pow camp is about a mile away towards town. Jr high was Calumet high school and other buildings still there. City park is the park the brothers died at in the movie. Great camping and movie locations for film buffs.
Love this place! We paddle boarded and kayaked all day. There were motor boats, wind surfers and jet skis. People were also fishing. It’s a great spot to go swimming or do water sports. There are some day use shelters, but they aren’t next to the shore. There’s also Dons Johns there as restrooms. Bring a tent because there’s no shade.
We entered the park on a Sunday afternoon an hour before they closed. We may have been the only ones there. We watched the sunset, beautiful views, open scenery. We didnt have a boat but there is wide open access to the lake.
Arrived on a Wed and camped in the dispersed camping area for$8 per night. Really nice park and a strong cell signal. Clean bathrooms with showers. No one was at the office. Self pay station available. The dump station was closed. So peaceful watching the sun drop below the mountains. Check out is at 2p. No one within 50 ft of my camp.
Nice but they shut the water before its freezing time. Otherwise it was ok. Now they have their dump station fixed but couldnt because of Covid.
Nice and well kept recreation lake with overnight camping site available for a small fee.Lots of scenery and a good size lake.Very impressed with this beauty.
They turned off the water when we got there, so everyone had to share one water source. And when you have ppl filling up huge family campers, it takes a while. There was two porta potties. They were clean the first night, on the third they were nasty. This place was not ready for opening up on the 1st for camping. Honestly if they werent able to do it right, they shouldve posted it online and put up notes that water will be turned off, bathrooms are still locked, and you can have campfires, if you want. It was nice to get out, but not worth it ️️
Not a bad little area to have some fun in the sun. Wouldnt really recommend fishing just because its quite empty most times, but great for swimming and boating. 4 stars because there is absolutely no shade by the lake. Be sure to take a sun shade.
Having fun but it is very windy! Fishing all day but they aint biting!
Great place to relax, fish, looking at the lake and mountains, who would have thought. You can go to the beach without going to the ocean!
Was very nice sprinkled a little .. water was amazing awesome people. Great food.. just wish it was Open for camping...
Best place to just stop throw your line in fish for a little while and get your peace of mind
Awesome lake to enjoy our sons birthday. It wasnt crowded and only from New Mexico. People were still social distancing
Family fun always to be had here... Memories of visit past lead to visits now .
Great place to use your water crafts. Awesome atmosphere with beautiful sceneries.
I have camped at 8 NM state parks and visited 11. While this park is beautiful with the lake for swimming, boating and fishing, it is the worst run and maintained park I have been to.All garbage cans are overflowing. There are many port-a-potties and they are filthy and overflowing. Its a shame because it is a beautiful place.Very uncommon for New Mexico State Parks which are usually very clean and well run.
November isnt the ideal month to come. I assume that when the weather is hot, swimming and boating are popular. Looks great for that. Today, the scenery is good, not beautiful. The restrooms are closed, but portalets are available. Theres nice facilities for barbecues and sheltered dining. $5 entry fee for the day, but you can park at the office for free and walk from there. Lots of space!
The park is great! But it was crowded, and windy. Fishing from bank was good.
Lake is nice popular fishing areas, family atmosphere .
Always a great time for fishing for years.
Dirty, loud, to many people. Small fish if you catch any. Dont waste youre time
Awesome experience with my family. Good access to vehicles.
Nice lake and big enough for boats and room to fish
Pretty trashy place, certainly not up to other New Mexico state park standards and it seems there are no rules being enforced. Dump station hasnt worked for 6 years. Electric service is unstable due to low voltage issues, and our surge protection keeps killing the power to protect our unit. The elevation makes the summers bearable, but unfortunately it is the noisiest state park we have ever been to. Kinda looks like a shelter for the homeless with some permanent residents.
It is a lake like so many other man made. Nothing special. I was told lots of sea shells not one. I was not impressed if you want a table or fishing spot be first in line as there in short supply and go fast
Clean campsites, beautiful scenery and good fishing all for a small nightly fee. Just be prepared for the wind, they advertise for the windsurfing and sailing events in the summer. The night(Oct 10th) I spent there the wind was strong enough that even being on the leeward side of a shelter it rocked my vehicle enough to wake me up several times during the night.
This is a nice RV/camping spot. The signage sure could be better, though. As you go through the registration area the road leads you to the right to the more undeveloped area with no signage showing you there are other newer, more developed sites to the left. We didnt find them until after we set up anrd went for a walk. We ended up telling several other potential campers about the newer area.
They should rename it dirty lake. Vegas doesnt seem to care about their only lake. Sad...
Storrie Lake State park was great, we had a very nice experience however I wish they had a designated area for dogs to be off the leash but since they dont they should enforce the leash laws. The Footbridge crossing the river was closed to foot traffic so fishing was limited to the east side of the Lake unless you had a boat. The staff are friendly and courteous. All facilities were clean and well-kept.
Great fishing. Multi species
Nice lake and you can swim there
Hot showers..nice park. Site with electric and water 14$ a night. 10$ For developed sites with water. I have a permit, great deal. You can stay up to 14 days.. The lake is very pretty.
It was lovely there. We got a very nice spot. I was so amazed an being with my family.
The amenities are nice barbecue pit and shelters in bathrooms place to park a playground for the little ones. The water is there but its not a Sandy Bottom near the boat launch where people go in the water its a little muddy so its up to you what you like. My Back Fence is a boundary of storrie lake and I look at the water from my back windows. in the spring if youre a Windsurfer I see the the one surfing going on and I see the motor boats buzzing around out there on the lake so I guess people have a good time. In the springtime we have very windy weather. Its Not Unusual to have 30 40 50 mile an hour winds most every day for the spring.
Nice place to stay. Although they were doing some upgrades while I was there it could use a bit more improvement on the grounds and restrooms. Could use more trees & grass, showers installed. No one was there for checking in which left us confused as to the location of our site..no signs to help out. I would definately stay again.
It was beautiful and very clean, a very fun experience.
Fish Was not biting. and very muddy
A beautiful lake. You can camp out here. They have showers, a playground, picnic areas. A great place for a family gathering.
Great place to fish. Its Friday night and there is a band and group in the group area. A bit loud, its quieter during the week.
Beautiful scenery with helpful and informative staff. The dump station is closed for what will probably be the entire summer. Otherwise a clean and well maintained state park. Each site has electric, potable water and an adobe style pavilion with table. Verizon cell service is pretty good at 3-4 bars. The camp host is vigilant about his duties. I look forward to my next visit.
Not clean. No one caring what is going on in park. Locals partying in camping spots. I had to leave my camping spot because at 5 p.m. 4 cars pulled into spot next to me just to party for the evening. Beautiful lake experience spoiled by any lack of supervision. Dogs not on leashes and in restrooms. Anything goes kind of place.
Large lake with nice covered rest stops for overnight or daytime stays. The area we used to fish had porti potties that were very dirty. Didnt catch any fish and constantly got snagged.
Camping for all types of campers and the beautiful view. I absolutely love it here!
Awesome lake to paddle on.
Nice. Park where you can find a spot. We dry-camped on the lake. Bathrooms and showers available. $8 a vehicle.
We rented the big day use camp for my sons graduation party. The host and the staff were so awesome and friendly with us and made sure the trashcans were empty and that they turned the electricity on for us and enen though we didnt stay ito the night they cam to offer to turn on the lights for us. Storrie Lake staff Rock.. Thank you all for the great work. I will definitely have our next party there again.
Perfect for paddle boarding
It was great until it was sooooo windy you couldnt get out of the car.
Very clean and well kept restrooms, showers, and porter potties. Had a great time! Will return!
Right in town of Las Vegas, NM. Dispersed camping very crowded but has everything needed (water, bathrooms, etc.). No trees. Good as a beach lake to swim or boat i imagine. My son and i went to fish but way to crowded to beach camp. We hoped more of the lake would be open to primitive camping but only a small section allows camping at all.
Beautiful views of the Eastern slopes of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. If you come here be prepared to deal with some strong breezes and cool mornings and afternoons.
Real close to Las Vegas, NM, so its convenient. It wasnt too noisy over the weekend, but it certainly could use some TLC.
Good fishing if you like catching some big Muskie!
Lakeside camping is great. Plenty of lake to boat. Grounds are kept clean. Clean restrooms and showers.
Might as well been a city park! No dump station open. Very crowded during the day and noisy. Loud music, and traffic at night.
Lake looks great. Sign says lake opens at 6am, but we had to sit and wait for 40 minutes to get in and go fishing
Awesome place
Great place to stop with kids to get some fresh air
The best in northern nm for fishing lots of great childhood memories with my grandfather frank vigil
Place needs work. Water was high, access to shoreline was restricted by the mud along shoreline. Not many camping spots with electricity and water. Dump statio closed. Have to go out of park to dump.
Its like heaven. Especially in the mornings before everyone wakes up. And the showers are so nice and warm.
Lots of water in lake beautiful scenery great place to camp just go youll love it
Nowhere to get a good hike in, but its a beautiful lake with excellent sites and reasonable nightly rates.
The place was muddy there is no dump station the boards with directions were confusing the park fee prices were confusing and if you didnt pay enough theyll fine you $25 the spots were not good they were Gravely and muddy and what little gravel there was. They said it was just electric sites so we filled our tank with water got there there was water however the water leaks really bad so we went ahead and used the water we had filled or tank with I would never ever stay there again I hated it!!!
Its our lake here in Las Vagas New Mexico my grandsons enjoyed playing in the water and so did my daughter. We all cooked burger and franks, we just enyoyed being there Love The Lake
Camp sites are ok, 30amp, some with water only. Dump station closed for years, some work being done on it... but no sign of completionDry camping along lake $8
The one and only NM state park Ive been to thats trashy. Nothing is maintained, not even the horrid restrooms. If you camp anywhere near the boat launch or electric sites, be ready for full daylight in the middle of the night from the street lights, one is a parking lot light thats blinding. On the plus side, the water was nice for swimming and kayaking.
Not too crowded.
Very nice area. Electrical sites are tight fit.
Its beautiful. Last time Ive seen it full of water this way. Was when I was a kid my self.
We stayed primitive camping this weekend. Our family was excited but could not use the portable restrooms as they were over full, or had any place to dump trash. Everyone camping was just making piles of trash so hopefully the ranger would come and pick it up. The showers and public bathrooms were a mess and no one over the long and very busy weekend came and cleaned up. I am very disappointed this camping trip.
Its a nice lake but ? But whats up with the fish my dad cout have sours on them
We love it here! Adobe huts, picnic tables, fire rings, showers and a lake. Low cost camping at its best.
Arrived late at night, no way to get a spot even though they have a self pay station. Apparantly there is also no way of coming back if you need to leave during the night at some point as there are spikes in the road to prevent you from doing so. And there is no warming on the website so we wasted two hours of our life driving there. Is this a park or a prison? Get your s*%! together
My hitas first camping trip... She loved it.
An hour away just to get some peace and quiet.
Beautiful scenery. But tall weeds all around and dirty fire pits maintenance is lacking big time.
