The old Mormon Fort is honestly one of the best places to go when exploring the great desert of las Vegas. A ticket can costs about $2 to $3 per person or if you have a kids that is under 12 years old they can come in free of charge. And sometimes the Museum hold events, like a blacksmithing class or a scavenger hunt for little kids. And if you want to buy something there is a gift shop and if you are still curious they have a movie running for free about the history of the Fortress in the museum. I highly recommend this Museum to anyone in the area.
This is the place! Great location where Las Vegas began. Its not all original since so many people have occupied the space but theyve got some great displays and the oldest building in Southern Nevada. Underrated place where a ton of interesting history happened.
We spent a delightful hour or two walking through a history book of the original Las Vegas, restored better than ever.
The Fort was small but it was situated in the middle of the city. I enjoyed learning about the history of how Las Vegas was founded through the exhibition, 20 minute video, and exploring what remained of the Fort. There was a blacksmith section in the Fort where blacksmith classes are available at certain times of the year.
Very interesting part of Vegas history. Its self guided, you can walk around and check it out for as long as you like. There is information posted thruout the grounds, and a 20 min movie about the first settlement in Vegas. I was told that guided tours are available as well. Its worth the $3 admission to checkout!
They have a new visitors center and I learned so much. Exceedingly cool
This is the place! Great location where Las Vegas began. Its not all original since so many people have occupied the space but theyve got some great displays and the oldest building in Southern Nevada. Underrated place where a ton of interesting history happened.
Wow this place was amazing. It was truly a humbling experience seeing what ot was like to like without air conditioning or washing machines!
Hidden gem in Las Vegas. Clean, significant place in Las Vegas history and super nice staff. $1.00 admission - can’t beat that! Do yourself a favor and spend 30 minutes of your day to check it out.
If you are a local, you should check the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort out. I have lived in Nevada for about 20 years and enjoy learning history about my adopted state. Also a to do item for tourists. A nice break from the casinos just off Las Vegas Boulevard. Maybe take the Old Fort & Mob Museum in the same day. Both are interesting & worth checking out!
Learned alot of early Las Vegas history. Great museum and only $3 to get in.
Great piece of Las Vegas history located right downtown. Lots to learn about in a nicely maintained state park with friendly staff. There is a small entrance fee of $3.
Interesting history to learn, and fun for our little kids.
This place is a hidden gem. For a small 3 dollar admission fee, its a good way to spend about 1.5 hours. When you first go inside, definitely ask about the scavenger hunt. Its really fun and you end up learning things you thought you already knew. Theres so much to see here, including the oldest building in las vegas, and they have a koi pond! At the end of your trip, you can pick from their assortment of moderately priced souvenirs. (My son and niece picked a bunch of different rocks and a bracelet and some flavored honey sticks) We will definitely visit again!
Take a step back in time and visit this hidden gem in the middle of downtown Vegas. Interesting history of the Vegas that once was. Free on site parking and only $3 to enter the grounds.
I good piece of Vegas history and its beginning. Worth couple bucks entrance and an hour or so around. Close to downtown, the Museum of Natural History and the Neon Museum.
A small museum with lots of information, grounds maintained like the past, a garden with old plants including mesquites, several varieties of willows and cotton. The female ranger knew lots of information to share. The bathrooms have cool glass tiles that let in the light without a loss in privacy. Tiny gift shop has plenty of items for sale. If you have a couple of days in Vegas, you should drop in to it
The history of this Adobe is what makes this place so special. Its basically the birth place of Las Vegas!
Ive been here twice and both times it was a great experience.
This was a very impressive slice of history, hiding right in the middle of downtown Vegas! We arrived early on a Saturday morning and the place was a ghost town! The rangers were waiting and ready for us. Ranger Carson gave us a great tour, he covered the history of Natives in the Valley, the arrival of early settlers, the development of the fort, wagon train routes, and the early work that led Las Vegas to become what it is today! We definitely wont forget the story of the First Lady of Las Vegas, Helen J. Stewart! For a small footprint, this State Park packs a lot of history in. Plan a little extra time and ask about making an Adobe brick or the Dutch Oven cooking competitions! Old Mormon Fort is certainly worth the price of admission!
Cool historic look at early Las Vegas settlement.carson was very helpful and informative. Watched the 20 minute movie and walked the site in about an hour.nice little gift shop and a good section of books
The Las Vegas Old Mormon Fort is amazing it is old and has the greatest things in there from long ago. You should get your parents to get them to take you! They have real stage couches, real guns and everything! Its amazing, i wish I was young again sometimes.
Neat little museum. Friendly and helpful staff person at the front.Clean. Well maintained.
It was a very enjoyable experience. Not only is it $2 to get in, unless youre handicapped which I am so it was free, its very informative. You just have to take your time and look at everything. We stopped at a sandwich shop and brought our lunch there which we ate in a grassy shaded area outside and that was also very enjoyable with the breezes. No stress, no crowds, no long lines and again it is handicap accessible. They even have electric wheelchairs that you can use. I just happen to have brought my own. LOL
Love taking the kids to read and learn about history
Its a nice place to take a Christian orientated family for a short little look-see.lots of history about the Mormon influences in Vegas in the passed.
Cool place. Julie Farkas can hook you up with medical supplies.
Its a gem! Where Las Vegas began. Lots of interesting history and a nice way to spend a couple of hours.
Great piece of history. Very glad this site was preserved for future generations. Good displays that share insight into the harsh pioneer life of the 1800s.
Definitely a place to stop in Vegas when youre there! The fort is really well maintained and they always have neat festivals especially on July 4th and July 24th!!! If youre in town, make sure to stop its awesome!!!
This museum is a gem that should be visited and treasured. Two and a half hours wasnt enough time to explore everything.
The first people in Las Vegas were the Mormons to settle. They built a fort here in 1855 at a site now considered the place were Las Vegas began. According to the visitor center before it has been reconstructed. There is currently one original wall surviving.
Great place for the kids
Old piece of Mornon History. Good Place to learn how vegas was shape.
Not much to see, but the staff there were lovely! A nice piece of Nevada history for those who are interested, and the price is very reasonable
Really super cool will be back when I have more time to spend here
Its an interesting bit of history that most people are probably not familiar with. Displays in the newer modern building are well done. The outdoors area and old buildings are a bit sparse.
This was a fun place to soak up some Las Vegas history you dont always hear about. It definitely filled in some gaps in my knowledge about the history of the area. The movie was interesting, and the displays informative. Me and my parents walked around the old fort afterwards for about 15 minutes. Id definitely recommend it if you want a change of scenery from the Strip.
$3 they cover the history well
This is a nice historical site to visit to understand the origins of Las Vegas. The museum has interesting information and is laid out well. It is also only $1 entry for adults which is very reasonably priced. The fort itself isnt much to look at but I enjoyed imagining what it wouldve been like in 1855.
Great piece of Las Vegas history - excellent collection and preservation of a 200 year old way of life in an external and internal museum
It is great. It only costs three bucks a person and is a fun easy to get out or be indoors while being very close to the strip. It also gives a thorough history of how Las Vegas was founded.
Great historical place.
Very friendly staff. More artifacts than I expected. Interactive activities for the kids, nice shaded picnic tables. A history of Las Vegas that is not well known. Nice state park.
Great information I never knew that the Mormans were the first to settle the Vegas area.
A great piece of history! A must for anyone who wants to understand a big piece of how Las Vegas started.
This is where it all began. We enjoyed learning about the history of the area. We enjoyed talking to Ray about his knowledge of the area.
They have great events here at the Mormon Fort. I love volunteering to help out here.
Interesting if youre into history. Never knew it existed. Also never knew that Vegas had a natural water supply 100+ years ago.
Great place for kids. Scavenger hunt was fun. They had lemonade and cookies. My son wants a flintlock .
Ok
The staff here is friendly and its a nice, cheap place to experience some history.
This was an interesting historical site. I enjoyed the orientation film and the museum and fort exhibits. The park rangers was very informative also
Cool place
Very interesting place, site of the first permanent European settlement in the vegas valley. Small state park in the city limits of vegas. Not much of the original buildings left, but the did a good job making it close to original as possible. Interesting exhibits and displays
I didnt realize how much history with Vagas and the Mormons, the Dutch oven cooking they fed us was wonderful..
I loved coming here and being able to learn about the beginning of Las Vegas and the expansion of the Church settlement.
This is where the Followers of the Apocalypse can be found in Fallout: New Vegas.
DUP members were great. Dressed in period costumes inhenced my experience.
Worth visiting. Protected very nicely.
Best $3 ever!!!! Loved it!! The park ranger was fantastic!!We filled in the kids treasure hunt and got a prize!!Highly recommended!!!!
The staff here is lovely, and its a nice, cheap place to experience some history.
Oldest settlement in Vegas. Very interesting!
$3 entry fee for 12+. It was fun to see how Vegas got started and how they used to live in the mid 1800s.
Its old, and its a Fort.
If you like history, then you will like this cool museum about Las Vegas. It was 3 dollars per person when I went in 2019.
Great resource to learn a little of Las Vegass history and see its oldest building. Admission is only $3. Its a steal. Check it out
Closed when I got there. Would have been interesting I bet. Next time.
If you want to learn about Vegas past well part of it
Well curated and interesting historical interpretation in the visitors center, but limited historical stuff to see on the grounds. Except for a couple of walls in one building, everything was rebuilt for tourists in the late 20th century.
This is a well preserved fort and it chronicles the beginning of the area
Its history. Deserves to be checked out.
Really well maintained park, really interesting and worth the 3$
Great historical site. Staff were knowledgable and friendly.
A great historical place to visit. Highly recommended
Nice family friendly place to go and learn a little Las Vegas history. Its not too big and strollers are best with bigger wheels due to the gravel. But we did fine with our stroller.. dont let that steer you away from this place!
Very small place, but an important part of Las Vegas history.
Had a great time learning the history of Vegas. Worth a trip for anyone coming to visit this town that likes history. Little does most people know that Vegas wasnt always the gambling town that it is now.
This is a great place to learn about the history of Las Vegas and surrounding area. For a $3 donation, it is worth it.
My family and myself had a most wonderful experience, the volunteers were so informative and kind, my ancestors were pioneers and taking part of the anniversary was splendid, their is a park next to the fort for lunch and to sit in the shade, for me my heart was full in reading all the material about the displays
Cool place a lot of history t by there. I enjoyed it
I was disappointed with this museum. The information presented seemed incomplete when compared to my recent studies. Outside of the historical value of the grounds there isnt much to the place.
If you like history stop at this place.
This truly is a hidden gem in Las Vegas. Many people - especially tourists - dont know about it. There is so much to learn here about the history of Las Vegas. If you love learning, I highly recommend visiting the Mormon Fort. Even if you arent a history buff, just seeing the artifacts, the museum, and the fort itself is worth the trip. For $1/person, how can you go wrong? I must say, its probably the best $2 Ive spent in a long time for my son and me.
Oldest structures in vegas! Only 3 bucks to get in!
How difficult life must have been. Really fun. History in the making!
If you have a bit of imagination and time, a place to reflect on the history of Nevada and Las Vegas. Knowledgeable staff. Small interpretive center and remnants of the various functions the fort served.
Closed due to covid.
The birth place of Las Vegas! Very interesting...
With all of the development in Las Vegas, the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort has taken many forms since 1855. The displays are very educational and you get a perspective you get on the survival of Native Americans and colonists. The starts of a town as a way stop between Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. Its survival through the depression. Its use to test concrete for Hoover Dam. To being in the midst of a major metropolitan area.
Cool to visit a part of Las Vegas long history. They have re-created the fort and have some of the original pieces. It was an interesting stop on our way through town!
I was surprise to come.. but we had a great time
Very interesting. Learned so much history.
