Pretty chill place. Id recommend this place for a group or some friends as a getaway. The people who own it are really cool as well. :)

This was our first year running programs for EARTH Lacrosse at WLC and the spot was just what we thought it would be; Rustic, nestled up against tons of land, a beautiful river running through to cool us down after a hard place, and good people to work with. Thanks Western Life!

I have nothing but wonderful memories of this camp and its people. I never will forget the owners Mel Root and his family. Mel could run fast thats for sure. I had no idea this was still open. I guess I was there in the early 70s. Owning a summer camp in the Pecos wilderness would be about the best job in the world! I would love to go back to El Porvenir, Beaver Creek, Johnsons Mesa, El Celio and my favorite Elk Mountain and stay a week in the wilderness.

I was twelve years old,my first camp experience ! A comfortable one considering many of my elementary school friends were attending this session and I was amazed at the friendliness of many of my own schoolbuddies being so open to being friends when on the school grounds they were more like adversaries,We had a great summer session and met other kids from Midland like Joe, whose daddy ran an oil producing company but concented to sent his namesake to this camp as my dad had because it would be good to meet kids from other parts of the country and this camp was run by two principals of our schools in Amarillo and Lubbock that were good friends and both was a really good men, Mr. Willoughby and his Lubbock friend! His name seems British and he was quite proper but has now passed into eternity! He had the privilege of giving me a few swats with his Hickory board which made his point quite effichently! I have to say I was touched to hear that he had passed! We never got to have a spot of tea together but I know he would have been a very interesting character to sit and chat with! Across the street from where I grew up with my parents;Buck and Audie, lived Mr.&MRS.Bob Kestersen, who transplanted from England in the40s!He owned a title plant for the recordation of real estate transanctions and was an amaetuar photographer who was beyond excellent and developed his own photos! Bob Kesterson took several of me sitting on the curb with the knee in my pants out, embarrassing my mom but winning blue ribbons in photo contests he entered! Bob and his bride were true brits! But loved Amarillo and brought their nationality to OUR TOWN WITH PRIDE, HELPED MAKE Amarillo proud! Just real good people! GOODDAY!

Menaul Middle School has started the academic year at Western Life Camp for three years. The camp is a part of our curriculum and allows us to build community in ways that are immeasurable. Students get to disconnect from technology and connect with our core values that include intellectual curiosity. Annette, Eric and Mike the camp directors are now a part of the Menaul School Family and their beautiful camp and facilities creates the environment we want to help our students thrive through exploration. Darryl Bryant - Menaul Middle School Dean.
