Sherry one of the site volunteers was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. She definitely helped to start out our tour off great! I enjoyed the self guided tour and information we received to do the entire site alone. There were a few other visitors that we had happen to see while touring, but made sure to stay distant from them per covid measures, granted the low amount of visitors that was rather easy.
THIS is an excellent museum and stop. It is very reasonably priced, well organized, and interesting for children and adults. They have included a variety of exhibits that give visitors a fascinating insight into the territorial prison, the politics, crime and punishment, daily life inside and out of prison, and on and on. The staff are friendly and helpful. I highly recommend a stop here.
Great place to relive history. We did a self guided tour. The rangers were posted outside the buildings and gave a brief explanation before we went in. Very informative. They give you a convict before you go in and you find him/her when you read about the convicts. My teenage son really liked this aspect. Very well preserved. Dont miss the broom factory! It was super interesting!!
This is a great place to visit and to get a very good feel for the history of early Wyoming. The exhibit is well done and the self guided tour is very informative and allows you to take your time. I recommend.
Awesome Renae was awesome turns out were both from so cal that was cool to see someone else from the same town your from. Hope Ghost adventures comes back to your site theyre awesome
Never disappointed by their Christmas light show each year!
Absolutely amazing people! Enjoyed every minute being there! The buildings were super clean and did not seem dirty at all! Customer service was absolutely wonderful! I highly recommend for families to go!
We went back In time! 1800sButch Cassidy was incarcerated here! As well as some women. Tour was Great! Our guides were Great! Sorry I cant remember there names.Thank you had a Great time!
Free day at the prison! Tons of historical information. Nice gift shop. Some exhibits were not open.
Great displays, very interesting! Well kept place. Gift shop pricey, but arent they all?
It was probably about 10 deg. F outside when I visited, but luckily all the attractions were near each other. Very informative without a guide, and all areas are well preserved and well maintained. Loved the staff, and gift shop.
Great place to walk around and visit with kids and pets. You just can’t go inside the buildings with pets but you can walk around outside with them for free. Beautiful area.
Really cool Christmas set and walk through. It was also great to walk the prison and see how well preserved it is,and the amount of pictures and documentation they have there. I want to go back in the day to see more and walk around the entire grounds. If you are into old west history this is a must stop.
Tour guide was excellent. Very interesting place. Great for kids. Family friendly.
If you love wild west history, this is a place to go. It takes you back to the first prison in the Wyoming territory and shares some of the prisoners stories. Staff was great as well!
Cheap entry fee. Lots of history. Very well restored and displayed. Highly recommend!!
This is a wonderful, historical fun place. They have done well preserving these historical buildings. The tour guides do well.
Amazing time. Check it out if you are close.
Very interesting. Enjoyed every minute. Staff was friendly and informative.
Not safe during covid. Their rules say they require masks but many of the other guests took them off the second they got inside past the staff. No one is there to enforce it. You are in small spaces (aka prison) with unmasked a-holes. We left without seeing a lot of the place and the kids were bummed.
Nice break from staying home. Clean and educational.
Very nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. Recommend if ur in the area to visit.
Friendly people. Easy tour. Awesome information.
Its a very cool place to visit every one is nice and helpful and a cool bit of old west history
Great place to learn some Territoral History.
We happened upon the Territorial Prison by accident. What an amazing find. from the actual grounds to the restored buildings to the old-time Homestead and old western storefront it is amazing place to visit and you can dive head-first into a little bit of Old West history. the prison gives you a really good idea of how horrible it must have been to be in jail back in the late 19th century. the museum has many amazing displays that feature artifacts and great write-ups about different people and things that happened at the jail. You can even stand inside of a cell and get your picture taken. make sure you check out the settlers Homestead which is on the further end of the property to give you a real idea of what Frontier living was all about. The Visitor Center has a nice little gift shop with some really cool affordable items. This site is run by the Wyoming parks department and they do a really good job. if youre anywhere near Laramie its definitely worth the visit and expect to spend at least 2 hours there.
Didnt really want to stop but Im so glad we did! Its been redone so dont expect a lot if original buildings and such, but the history is there and the tour guide was knowledgeable and helpful.
Nice stop. History comes alive
Very interesting! If you love the Old West history, you must go here. It was a great tour and reasonably priced gift shop!
Very cool spot, worth the stop. Excellent guides
I swore I would never have my wedding reception in a prison and then I saw the horsebarn inside the Wyoming Territorial Prison Historical site. O literally teared up. It is SO Beautiful. Deborah and her staff were above and beyond helpful, especially with a little lost ring mishap that occurred. The cost is EXTREMELY affordable and includes tours of the site for your guests, which is really helpful to your stress level. The only complaint I would have is because it is a historic site the paperwork took for-ev-er. I started trying to book this site at the end of April and didnt get final confirmation Until a week before my July wedding. I also had to change insurance companies because the requirement turned out to be different I the specifics than what the paperwork said. (Paperwork said $500,000 per occurance, the board wanted $500,000 on a specific line in the paperwork.) Adena was a life saver with the paperwork and helped me make it work! The staff made any headache manageable and no headache seems like it was worse than one would have with any other venue. Didnt get my pics back yet but am including a few from my phone.
Nicely done. Admission price is a little high in my opionbut Im glad I went to see it.
Wyoming doesnt have much, but they have this!! This place was awesome and made a trip back through history very memorable. My nine year old son had such an amazing time learning about the inmates and how this prison operated back in the pioneer days. Stop by and take a look!
We kind of had to hurry through due to time constraints, but was surprised how interesting this olds prison wss. I recommend a visit!
Just wished I wasnt so tired the day I visited.
This was truly a gem, I could have spent a whole day here! A tremendous amount of time, effort, and resources were evident in the restoration of this historic place! This is a must-see.
Very cool place if you get the chance to check it out. We were there recently for the pumpkin patch event. There is plenty of historical facts and resources there to learn about the time frame the prison was in use. Lots of criminal backgrounds and stories and Knowledgeable staff to keep vyou asking questions.
Its a great place for kids to go and also adults and it is nice to learn how the prison.was like back then just so u know it is way diffrent
Spent 2.5 hours, could have been longer! Great place. Did self guided tour but tour is available. Will be back!
I visited for the septic dump and fresh water for my trailer. The line of trailers and campers in front of me was so long that I decided to go to the KOA instead (same price).
We, my 9 and 11 yr old daughters and I, went here budgeting 1-2 hours. We left 3 1/2 hours later and spent 5 bucks (my admission). You wont find a better value! We did a self guided tour but they do have guided tours (we were to early, i am guessing worth paying 10 dollars a person. Kids under 12 were free on the self guided.Anyway, there are a couple of sections, the old prison, a frontier town and a small museum building. Reading the stories of the prisoners and seeing the cells, wardens house etc was surprisingly entertaining. The town is part of an exhibit that i think they used to have more, now you can just look inside most (not as good as others like Fairplay Colorado, but is a nice extra. There is even a fairly priced gift shop with Wyoming stuff. If in town--go!
Enjoyed the tour of the broom factory and the prison
Fantastic been going most of my life very fun museum.
Super fun tour and a very clean dump station for the camper.

Great place to visit.. my sons had a blast!
We saw the National Tree! What a great memory!
Had A gag order, I refuse to live my life in fear!
Very interesting and educational great place to take the family !
Nice historical point of interest.
Great history of the 1900s . Add the trip to Rawlins to continue with the timeline .
This place was awesome also recommend the old state prison in Rawlings
I had a great time walking through the grounds, it was $5 dollars to get in the door. It is worth walking through slowly and reading everything. I was very excited to get a chance to experience history.
Super interesting! Also really enjoyed speaking with the 2 park employees that were working while we were there. Totally recommend stopping to visit.
Pretty cool place and our tour guide was very knowledgeable... Had a Shawshank vibe lol
Very interesting. .take the guided tour. So much more information. ...
The Wyoming Territorial Prison is a great place to visit! The amount of time, resources, and energy that has gone into bringing this place back to life is a great testament to how much Wyoming cares about preserving their history. Reading the stories of the inmates, and getting a better perspective on Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch was awesome! The gift shop has some very cool stuff as well. I highly recommend visiting this place!
Had a great time here, very well kept and fascinating landmark.
Very interesting. Lots to read.
A super cute museum! There were a ton of new facts I learned and a bunch of cool things I saw. What I thought was the most unique were the photos of the prisoners with their story. The broom factory was also super cool and it was surreal to see all of the old equipment and how to make an old fashion broom
This place is great!!!!! The staff is super friendly, the museum itself is an A+ experience. Theyve got enough artifacts to fill the trunk of my car and more! Come here if youre in the area and looking for a once in a lifetime experience, I was not disappointed.
Go see this! Its a really cool old prison with good local tour guides.
We use them for our rv drain and fill.
We really enjoyed the tour
To commercialized and updated. Not to much in original condition.
Most of the employees are nice. Everything is well maintained. I feel like Im transported through time.
We went for an event at the prison. We have gone several times for events and it has been quite fun. And also we have visited the prison itself and that was a great time for kids also.
Fun. Educational. Kids loved it! Reasonable prices in gift shop.
Such a fun tour!
We went with our kids and gbbz. We spent over 2 hours. So much information. So much to look at and read about. The gbbz experienced being locked up - personally that was SO EERIE. There are other buildings and sites to see.Definitely a good stop
Is an amazing piece of History to tour. Even my kids four and six were interested when it came to seeing the prison cells and how small they were. Very cool very Dynamic Museum that also involves itself and the community with Christmas and holidays and a loween.
Tangible history all over the property! A must for any traveler stopping in Laramie!
So much history self guided tour inside was interrupted but over all clean well maintained place of history. Helpful staff to answer your questions
Alot of history here, really liked it. Paranormal activity....??? Yes absolutely.
Take the tour. Love this place we have been several time I always learn something new. Great light show at Christmas
Had a wonderful time here with the family. Fun and educational!
Self tour, a little pricey, and goes for parks and rec. We ride out bikes to the prison, and our boys spend hours exploring. So much history and Interactive, great afternoon .
Well done, lots of information, place is in good shape, we spent ~2 hrs. Nice gift shop. Nature walk and place to picnic. No easy shade for parking if traveling with pet.
Did not go do to the fire.
Friendly staff, and interesting history
Very educational.
Such a neat historical place in town. The employees are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They are always so willing to have field trips and schools visit the prison. The events they put on are also amazing. They are such a fantastic contribution to our community.
We had a really good time visiting this place and learning about the history of the prison. The restoration was well done and you get a sense of what it was like back in the wild west. We really enjoyed the biographies of the inmates. Just like today, there were some crazy dudes back then. Allow yourself a good 2-3 hours to really take your time to walk through and read about everything. 5 dollars a head was a good value for what you get to see. The Butch Cassidy exhibit was also well done. Grounds are clean and well maintained. Having an RV dump station on site probably helps bring folk in.
Wow! I really enjoyed my visit and would highly recommend this to couples and families who enjoy a little history and a lot of stories from the past.
Neat, old jail. You can slam the cells locked. Liked the broom shop.
Great place with a lot of information! Plan to spend a few hours here if you like reading everything! Absolutely worth it!Also, I hope someone has a wedding here some day. The ole Ball and Chain and you could have Broomsmen. So much broom for activities!
Great place to disassociate to
Pretty awesome! Wyoming has some colorful, exciting history. I love living in this state!
