Great place for pictures!! My husband and I like stopping by here to take a few pictures of the lights when we are in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park: Big Bend! Also, if youre hungry there is a lot of food trucks outside the museum.
Very steep hills for the novice like us, but beautiful scenery of the mountains and ocean down in the valley
Made plans to hike here with my dog. Very disappointed to find out after driving almost 2 hrs to get here, there are signs posted no dogs allowed. Would’ve been nice to know before wasting my time coming out here! Needs to be updated on the website. Very disappointed.
Nice steep hike (depending on what side you start from (started from Big Bend) and completed 7... mile hike. If you want to see waterfall/ water in creek go during winter. Nice view of the ocean.
The best mountain bike trails in oc
If you wonder what the coast line looked like before human settlement, just have a wonder around here. Very fortunate to have a fabulous natural resource nestled in between two over developed expensive property areas. Whether you enjoy meandering spacious fire roads or the challenges of a single track, this is a most convenient haven for this. The smell of wild sage is everywhere. The flora is mostly brush and cacti. So be prepared to be exposed to sun and wind. Being in nature, always be careful where you step and sit.
Loooved it. Great for families. Waterfall was dried.Lots of big rocks and a couple caves for kids to play in. Bushes/trees offer nice shade several times along the trail. We did the shortest loop which is about 3.5 miles long. Starting with Laurel path/trail.
Trails should be marked with how difficult they are. We are experienced hikers and tried hiking up a hill not knowing how steep and long it was and had to turn back.
Great trails for mountain biking & hiking.
Good calf and butt workout
Great selection of meats, cut well and ready!
A Beautiful Day hike. Trees would be really nice.
Nice place for hikers. Long trails
I like the beaches I think keeping htem clean and preserved is the best city needs more volunteers to clean up
One of my favorite places for an intense but rewarding hike. Trails start off really close to the road but within a few minutes of hiking up the hills, youll find yourself in beautiful and serene wilderness, especially if you go really early in the morning or on a weekday. Full of wildflowers in the late winter and early spring. Hawks and other birds are plentiful as well. Breathtaking views of the ocean on one side and mountains on the other if you get to the higher points. The only negatives I can think of: the parking lot is small and the open hours are pretty short (not sunrise to sunset like a lot of parks).
Home Sweet Home: beautiful California Wilderness in the heart of urban Orange County. A hundred miles of various hiking trails, campgrounds. Beautiful in the morning especially. You can see deer, quails, bob cats, and rattle snakes while you hike. Maps are available posted on trail sections, so you know where you are.
Its so nice here. While it does get a little bit busy, that doesnt matter. Its really well maintained so that the rains dont wash out the trails, very beautiful views and when its clear, you can see all the way to Catalina Island from some of the peaks.Highly recommended. Not very technical.
This place is awesome, amazing hiking trails that are a good workout. You can go hiking, biking or even horseback riding on them. Its in the canyon so its not beach at all, but it still has really good trails and views. Leave small dogs at home though. My friend brought her little 10 pound service dog and an animal stalked us all the way down. Tons of wildlife here.
What a wonderful park with spectacular views of the Pacific ocean.
There are 2 trails leading to Barbaras Lake, the Lake Trail is the shortest. At the fork head left. If you turn right, you will head up to the Edison trail which takes you to a longer hike but is fun as well. Not much to see over at the lake though. Perhaps I expected too much.
Beautiful great place to walk
Go check out the visitor center before starting your hike. Its recently built in last 5 years or so.Amazing trails ranging from easy to difficult. We did a pretty intense 5 mile hike with inclines, declines and switchbacks.
Good hike with great view of pacific ocean. Pretty long hike 12 miles approx with a steep rise at big bend. If you looking for a strenuous hike this in one the longest in Orange County.
Fantastic! Absolutely loved the trails in this park, was only able to scratch the surface in 6 hours I had to explore. Many different ecosystems and difficulty levels, great trails for mountain biking or hiking. Lots of different flora and fauna, also, one of the best smelling trails Ive been on, from what I think was jasmine maybe? I was completely taken aback when I cleared one peak and was able to see the lake of smog over LA, never seen anything like it.
What a wonderful park with spectacular views of the Pacific ocean.
Beautiful landscape and lots of tiny lizards await in this well-maintained set of trails. The surrounding sandstone has been worn away in intriguing shapes. Go along the trail far enough and the silence is such that you can hear the flap of a crows wings.
Nice park with good trails. A woman on staff was sort of unpleasant. She acted like we were in her yard and made us feel like we were bothering her! Park nice, staff not really.
Its a bit of an island in an otherwise very commercialized Orange County. But a great island to be stranded on, if only for a bit. Beautiful views from many of the trails, occasional wildlife, and loads of trails for hiking or biking. Definitely worth a visit.
We go here almost every weekend for mountain biking. They have great trails. Its pretty busy in the morning but gets easier to find parking after 10am.
Beautiful nature in overcrowded SoCal
Nice, usually quiet.
Great hiking for the area. Be sure to pay for parking, bring some water and maybe a snack. Youll also want to double check the trails so you dont end up going on a much longer hike than you expected.
Cool place to visit.
Easy trail great view of the ocean.
Beautiful this time of year, with all the wild flowers.
Great place to hike. They have quick 1 mile easy trails to 5 mile or more difficult trails. Parking is $3.00
Great trails with an easily accessible trailhead. Parking only $3.00. Wonderful views of the Pacific once you conquer the 800 foot vertical climb to the top.
Well maintained trails in the San Joaquin Hills. Great for hiking workouts, mountain biking, and trail running. The trail network connects to the Crystal Cove trails. As of 2016, OC Parks charges $3 for parking.
Great place for hiking without having to drive hours away. With trails for all levels
My most favorite OC park. Plenty of trails. Wonderful display of nature :) Parking is a big issue since the place is overwhelmingly popular.
Perfect spot for hiking, mountain biking, and visit the Laguna Beach sea shore for a swim. Easy hike for experienced hikers.
Really nice moderate hike, we started with canyon trial returned within in 0.3miles as we wanted to blackjack loop which joins canyon trial on the ridge. Blackjack is bit steep but was fun, trial along the ridge is with full of views not ocean if you are expecting ocean views. 0.5 miles of blackjack trail is the only part which is steep. The total loop with blackjack and if you return via canyon you will do around 3.1 miles. Must go atleast onces !
Nice hike with a natural lake to be found. Parking was plentiful when we went hiking on a Saturday midday.
You know, some walking, bird watching, and a quik outdoors fix.
Such a nice and well maintained set of trails in the otherwise overcrowded south Orange County area. My favorite so far is the Willow Canyon which runs right into the Bommer Ridge Trail.
Very steep for the first third, but the rest of the way its nice and easy. There is a $3 parking fee.
Great for getting out and enjoying nature
Beautiful hiking. Tented up there for four days. Loved it
Diverse park with many options for hiking & biking. Adjacent to Crystal Cove SP and Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park.
Amazing location, with great coastal views. A nice place to spend the day.
Just a great place with good cause and much to learn. Great place for the community
Close to the more popular Crystal Cove, Laguna Wilderness is a nice trail that is actually connected to Crystal Cove. The trails are well maintained, beautiful, and full of fragrant flowers and bird calls. The flora and fauna are quite a sight and a reminder of why SoCal is so popular. The trails themselves are a good mix of easy and challenging, different grades, surface changes, open stretches, etc. The helpful and friendly staff at the Nix center can help you decide the best trails for you. There are also lots of events and educational things going on as well.BONUS: Unlike Crystal Cove, parking is only $3!!!!Mountain Bikers: I see them, but since I only hike, so cant speak to LCs mt bike appeal.
Love. Love. Love this park. There are so many beautiful trails. A must see in Laguna.
Started at Quail Hill Trailhead, nice easy hike, bring water and snacks to really enjoy and be safe
My husband is doing construction here. Beautiful homes being built. So expensive but amazing view of the ocean.
Variety of different hikes, very good views across Southern California, trails in good condition.
Beautiful landscapes and full of green around the park... It was a comfortable hike....
Lots of fire roads for hiking, too many for biking ;) has some fun downhill runs
Enjoy hiking here. I have been on most if not all of the various hiking trails on both sides of Laguna Canyon Road and Route 133. Favorites are Sycamore Canyon Trail and at the James Dilley Preserve the Jack Rabbit Trail that completes a loop with the Canyon Trail. My Mom and I hiked six miles from the Nix Nature Center up to the ridgeline trail and continued on past the 73 Toll Road to the Sycamore Canyon Trail 12 years ago when she was 80 and I was 40! It was a beautiful day on the ground breaking and dedication of the beginning of the Nix Nature Center. I also like the Bommer Canyon and Emerald Canyon trails. Once in awhile I see deer when I am out hiking. Also enjoy walking over to Barbaras Lake. Would be nice for the park to put in a few benches by the lake for people to sit and watch the ducks. Similar to what they have over at the Irvine Ranch Water District Duck Ponds.
The park is huge with so many well kept trails and many different trail options. Go camp at Crystal Cove and ride up Morro trail to burn some cals!
FREE tour advice, maps and information in the main Center. Walking areas clear, nice camera shutting spots in this the park.
Go pedal the mtb here pretty frequently with friends. Prefer the Aliso Creek / Wood Canyon side, personally, as the LC Wilderness side seems to be more fireroad (excepting illegal trails). Maybe LCWP is a little less crowded, but then avoiding the weekend rush helps solve that regardless.Still some good trails and good times to be had.
Because its a beautiful break in-between all the cinder blocks and traffic lights ..
One of my favorite places to enjoy a trail run!
While it costs $15.00 for parking, it is well worth the money.
Hiking for days... Lots of trails to explore. Grab an annual pass at their office off of the 133 if you plan on going hiking a lot in OC.
Awesome for running. Loved it! Suoernice and helpfull parkranger.
Awesome view of the ocean
Good to hike.
Many trails for hiking or mountain biking with spectacular coastal views
Awesome trails between Irvine and Laguna Beach! Some trail heads are not easy to find and not properly marked on Google, either.
Nice place, 3dollar parking here not bad at all
Friendly rangers, well-groomed trails, with some fun switchbacks and downhills for mountain bikers. There are a couple view of the cliffs about halfway in that are reminiscent of Utah or Arizona.
Amazing views of Laguna Beach. Wilderness to explore and exercise.
Good hiking place but direction sign is poor
Awesome trails for quick hikes, or all day hikes with magnificat views of the hills and ocean. Wildlife is a bonus!
Great views, lots of trails for hiking and mountain biking
Great place to explore, run, hike or bike. The lots are crowded on weekends
Dont go if you cant do a hard climb. Vertical climb at such a steep angle. I am not in shape. Bad move for me, but beautiful scenery!
Easy access to strenuous hike in the front end
Wildflowers are blooming & its quiet during the week
Love the short trail up here but Barbaras Lake has been ravaged by the drought... not a drop in sight
Beautiful, quiet, not crowded
Awesome trails to go hiking or mountain biking on
Amazing natural preserve right in the OC
Great trails with ocean views..Great for running..
