Place was nice enough. You can tell the building is old, outside and inside, and it could use more or better lighting . It looks like it has a bit of history. When you go inside you will see lots of trophies and pictures of people who appear to have participated in competitions they would hold at this place. The rink staff was really nice, however the front desk staff could be a bit more welcoming. The skates that they provided for us and our kids were in nice condition. On the rink they have a dedicated area for small children who are beginners. They also provide a type of cart that slides that children can use to lean on to get a better balance or even ride while someone else’s pushes. Overall we had a good time and I would recommend this place for a nice family outing.
The better customer experience for ice skating in town. The crew here is excellent. The training and classes are also top notch on the hockey side for sure. The ice is a little smaller, but I love this place.
Nice full sized ice rink run by a friendly and caring staff. You can tell from the inside that this place is special and the owner has invested a great deal of time and care into it. While it is older, it certainly has its charms and I highly recommend this place. Hopefully we will be back.
Well after being harassed numerous times by the skate guard I left after an hour. Apparently I was skating to fast. I would indeed go fast but only when nobody was close. I used to work here ab 10 years ago and I can say it’s went downhill fast. Guess I’ll be heading to Cool Sports Ice Arium.
I’ve been here probably like 5 times, the guys that skate on the ice with you to keep everyone one safe are really jerky like stoping people in the middle of the rink to tell them they are going to fast, which was not the case. If your a grandma with a two year old this would prob be a good place, but if your young and energetic forget it cause you will not be able to go over 3 miles an hour without getting called out!!!!!! The guys on the ice with you just Injoy telling people what to do and not to do!
Excellent facility with not only skating programs but curling as well. The atmosphere is like a German or Austrian chalet. Staff is very friendly and professional. The only thing to mention is that I never noticed ANY handicapped parking, which is incredibly disappointing as Im a disabled veteran and often rely on that parking and I have also seen other disabled individuals who would benefit from those spaces. Now if they do have handicapped space(s), they are not conspicuously marked which is a shame.
I had so much fun there
Always enjoy skating here! Friendly staff and affordable.
I went there because it’s the only place in Knoxville ( that I know of) to buy new figure skates, without ordering and other hassle. Even though the selection isn’t big but honestly after you get it 10 times wrong via mail you are happy with anything. The figure skates that they carry are good quality popular brands( not cheap - you don’t want those anyway, but not overly expensive)Gentlemen in the pro shop was very helpful about picking out my skates. They will let you try them on the ice and if you choose to get them they can customize it to your foot right there if you have extra 30-40 min. Mr. Gregory was great at that.I LOVED their ice. Very smooth. The place is very cozy, they have tables and a huge fireplace that will make you feel like you are somewhere in the mountains. The only downfall is that the place itself is small and there were tons of people for public skating and it felt very cramped. But we felt very welcomed there the first time and definitely will be coming back there for public skating when the holiday season passes.
Ice is hard and when your son hits it hard enough, you will pretty much be able to wager a large sum of money that an ER visit for a possible shoulder injury will immediately follow your departure from the rink lol.
Impressive, quaint little ice rink. Because the rink is old (built in 1962), only the educated, ice loving hearts would be able to find the charm at this place. Some people had warned me away that this place is run down/ghetto. Im so very glad that I didnt listen! This rink is a little museum in its own right (about a great mans life (the founder: Robert Unger), and many other skating historical artifacts: skiis, boots...The coachs are friendly and talented. We came from Georgia (7 hours away) for their summer camp, and love every minute of it. The price is unbelievably cheap (compare to any other ice rink anywhere else). The skaters get training in every aspect (off ice, body conditioning, stroking, jump/spin). It is a well-put together program.Their facility is small but full of personality_Germany/European touch with cute chairs, fire place, wooden interior...Almost feel like sitting at a ski resort. Hope this rink is here to stay. Well definitely be back.
Wholesome experience, friendly staff, super fun event planning with college night and food! Come visit and let loose. Even if you fall there is plenty of ice.
Worst ice in Knoxville! Also they will not let children wear hockey helmets with cages because they are afraid that the cage will scratch some other kids up...... lets not over look that the skates are sharp and no one ever falls and hits their face on the ice. We will not be back at this place ever again....... Did you the OWNER not get the point that there are other things on the ice that can cause more damage than a cage? I will not put my child at risk of hitting her face on the ice because of some stupid rule that you have came up with so we will never be at your establishment again!
This is actually a really nice rink. Its like a chalet in that its decorated like a ski lodge with a fireplace and such. There are bleachers that folks can sit on to watch people skate. I believe they have some hockey games (kids) here also. I didnt visit the concessions but I saw the hot chocolate had lots of marshmallows and they didnt skimp on them! Its averagely priced, but going as a large group and getting the discount helps. Its a tad hard to find without the GPS because its dowwwwwnn in a hole sort of, with a steep driveway. I live a good bit away from the rink, but honestly, if we lived closer, Id definitely come to this rink more often. I really enjoyed sitting by the fire gabbing with other moms while my kids skated.
Will never go again. Cashier was Nice and the guy that sharpens skate blades was great. Was Asked to put my Legal Firearm away. No sign saying they arent allowed. My self protection isnt welcome, Neither am I.
I was very displeased with the employees, ESPECIALLY the Chinese dude.He kept telling us to go slow, he wouldn’t let my friends and I hold on to each other to skate and he wouldn’t let us play games at all.I am not exaggerating at all.I was so agitated.
This is a great place for enrichment and challenging advancement. All the instructors are professional and understanding of their students. Young or old, start your lifelong passion of carving ice here!
They kick you off the ice for going to fast!
Great experience, great staff. They really care about making it fun for everyone
My son got a blister from a poor fitting skate here which soon turned into a nasty MRSA infection which almost cost him his foot! After surgery and 12 weeks of IV antibiotics my advice is to wear two socks and take some Lysol to spray into the rental boots before you lace them up! Or go see a movie instead.
Great fun for the family. Well kept. Fun atmosphere. Reasonable prices.
We brought our 5 kids ranging in age from 3.5 to 13 and they didnt want to leave. It was the kids first time ice skating but with a little time in the practice area, they all managed to start skating mostly without help in an hour or two. Our two youngest (6 and 3.5) were still using the skate trainers when we left but had a blast nonetheless! The staff was friendly and helpful. If were in Knoxville again Im sure well come back for more. Make sure everyone brings socks as they are $5 at the counter. God bless.
I love this place. The staff are nice. The only reason I did not give a 5 is due to no concessions when I was there and the staff were unable to redeem my Ice Chalet school coupon on my phone. Otherwise I was very happy and satisfied. Our family comes every Christmas holiday season.
We loved this place!
The ice is the best ice Ive skated on. It wasnt very crowded.
Good
I absolutely love this place! Hockey games, free skate, and more!!! Great place for a family birthday or just to play hockey! P.S. great staff!
Greatest time Ive had in a long time! I recommend this place to everyone.
Nice place great staff laid back welcoming
Nice skating ring, rentable skates and lots of classes to enroll in. Seems very popular and a great place to visit. Be careful on the drive in as they are at the bottom of a steep hill.
This is the best place in Knoxville for skating and hockey best price as well
Kids had fun but the smell was overpowering. Moldy/musty kinda odor. I know the place is VERY old but there are contactors out there who can help.
Didn’t answer my phone call and still hasn’t called me back
Great place to go. Staff is very nice and helpfully.
I went there and skated several times with my kids and everything went well the first two times. On the third, I read and followed all the posted rules and those Id heard previously announced as Id done before, but apparently violated some unwritten rule that I didnt know and suddenly the DJ stopped the music and was calling me out publicly, with the potential risk of inciting others against me. Thankfully, nobody approached me, but this whole experience was very unnerving and humiliating and has soured things for me. Prior to this, I was considering buying some skates from them and also bringing some of my kids in for lessons, but such blatant disrespect and disregard for my personal safety by the DJ being tolerated greatly diminished my respect and confidence in the management. I came there in good faith with no intentions of harming or wronging anyone, or breaking any rules. To be treated this way by the DJ is not only appalling, but also a threat to my personal safety. Needless to say, Ive changed my tune about bringing my kids there for lessons or purchasing anything from them.
Theyve got curling leagues that play here.If that wasnt reason enough to go, theres a total rustic winter resort feel, complete with a hearth to warm up by.The only issue I could say is from Google not allowing for updated holiday hours, and directions might be slightly hard to follow.Give them a try, check out the ice.
Thanks for a great time with special Olympics.
Loved it here! it was really nice to be able to come with a group and not have to worry about it not being big enough! had a nice staff, and even people put on the ice to help beginners!
Too cold, got sick.
Great space. Plenty of room. Inexpensive. Friendly staff.
Bring your own skates good rink
So great! Skating, warming up by the fireplace, hot chocolate....great fun!!!
Awsome, not to complane or anything, but for this soon to be youtuber this place awsome!
Chalet am taking lessons here and I am in beata my instructor is so nice I recommend via Chalet. If you sign up for three classes you get a free pair of ice skates, that would of been helpful to know at first because my mom paid for two classes and then another so you have to pay for the classes all at once but still a great place and better than cool sports.
This place has horrible ice. The locker rooms are tiny, the hockey is the worst in the world. The reason why it is a good place to learn to skate is because the ice is super soft. My skate almost got stuck to the ice 3 times. Cool Sports is much better and not as cheaply run.
Great place! The staff is friendly, the service is quick, and overall it is a wonderful place for people of all ages. (P.s they even have skates for toddlers tje smallest skates they have are size 4!)
Staff is friendly. Pricecis fair. Skates are about what you expect from rental. We liked that the last time we went they kept a small section of ice coned off for small children and provided ice walker devices. This made it more fun for our kids and much easier on our backs! !!
The ice rink and service for it was fantastic. Also, shout out to red jacket girl. She sweet
Love this place! I love skating!️ want to take lessons for improvement... because Im terrible but I dont have the money
You cant beat the fun for $15!I always love skating and The Ice Chalet always comes through.
Only one person was working to hand out skates and take payment. Had to wait which was fine. The big bummer was they did not clean the ice at all and it was extreemly busy. Lots of snow and alush on the ice makes it hard for beginngers to learn to skate. Bummed!
Food wasnt great, but thats not what you come here for. Service was friendly, even with a big group, and they take very good care of their skating rink.
Great place to hang out and skate
Lots of fun! Very well maintained ice
Very disappointed brought my Granddaughter from Cleveland, Tn to go skating we got here at 1:30 PM a note on the door said something about until 3:00 pm so I thought we could only skate until 3:00 pm . When I went to re-read the sign it was gone. So I asked the lady about it .She said it was when the session ended. So I explained to her about already telling my daughter in law that my Granddaughter could only skate unilateral 3:00 pm & could she maybe give me a discount for the next time we come up ? She said NO.. Sorry. ..So I paid $12.00 for my Granddaughter to skate for an hour and a half.. so much for kindbess
Fun and unique way to spend a couple of hours.
Great place for family fun!
Family friendly place to take your kids. We enjoyed it Monday so much that we went back Saturday night. Clean place and friendly staff.
Lots of fun. It was packed with people for a Saturday afternoon.
Great place! Fantastic staff. A K-town standard!
A great value at a fair price! A very large rink with an exceptionally friendly staff, and even a cozy fireplace sitting room for parents!
Great place for kids to learn to skate and play hockey
Friendly warm environment.
After a small scheduling snafu, the staff was very accommodating and the manager even came to check on our group and thank us for visiting the complex. We had a blast and will definitely be back!
Wounderdul place to have parties with private rooms. Cozy.
Really good place for kids

Excellent hospitality
Fun but really crowded!
It was ok.
Nice place!
Great for first dates
Ice Chalet is one of the worst places to go skating at. The hockey sucks and employees are rude, unfriendly, and unprofessional people. Will never take my family there again.
Really nice ice skating rink...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
