If you just happened to be driving through the Kilgore area in Texas this downtown is quite interesting 2 walkthrough.. the area concerning all of the oil well towers is where the oil boom of Texas in the 30s began.

Interesting history of so many rigs running at one time. They even tore down buildings at the time to make way for more drilling.

Nice view into the history of the East Texas oil boom. When most people think of oil and Texas, they think of the deserts of West Texas, but the Richest Acre Park shows the prevalent abundance of oil found in the Kilgore area. Before oil was found here the population was slowly dwindling. The Richest Acre marks the spot where there most oil derricks in one acre were placed. The park was created to bring back the Kilgore skyline at the height of the boom. No trip to Kilgore would be complete without a visit to this park.
