Fantastic little museum we had never known about! The concept and layout is sooo cute and well thought out. You can go into all displays like the drug store, bank, and a printing press. And there’s even a old time theatre you can watch a show in! I loved the elevator to the center of the earth “ride”! Highly recommend this little piece of history!

My 8 year old son and I had such a good time here, so much history about East Texas and the oil found here and that is still a rich resource of this area still today. If you are in the Piney woods of East Texas I would make time to fit in a visit to this museum.

So nice to visit again. Have been visiting from time to time since the 80s but its been a long time since I was here last. There were some new touches and updates but the spirit of the place remains. This is a great museum to learn about the history of oil exploration in East Texas.

Museum has a very credible recreation of the boom time era of the oil rush and how it profoundly affected Kilgore, TX.There is also a great recreation of businesses from that era.I would skip the movies.

I actually visited this place with a friend who had previously worked here, and so I got a more behind-the-scenes at how this works. This museum is incredible and I absolutely recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about the history of the oil riggings in East Texas. They have thousands, if not tens of thousands, of artifacts from the past hundred or so years that give an immersive look into what it was like in that time period. They have interactive exhibits, such as an elevator that takes you down into the earth and explains each layer of earth and how the oil is pulled out. They also have a small town, with artifacts in each building, and explanation for all of it. They even have a free newspaper in the style of that time period! All in all, an amazing experience for a low cost, and I would definitely recommend!

A friend who lives in Longview (lifelong resident) took me to the museum when I visited her. I was impressed with how well information was presented - not boring for an adult, and challenging for children. The collection of oil related items from the area is very impressive. A worthwhile stop if youre in the area!

I was pleasantly surprised at my experience with the East Texas Oil Museum. Its not just about rigs and pumps. You get a real sense of what life was like during the oil boom. Included were interactive features, a movie, and life sized diaramas of the time. The elevator was a great learning experience.

Way better than I expected! Pricing was under $40 for 4 adults and a child, the museum was a really good size and had lots of activities/interactive things to do. Very clean and the staff were above and beyond friendly. Gift shop was reasonably priced. This museum tells the history/story of the east texas oil boom and lets you walk around in a recreated version of a town during that time period. You can tell a lot of work & care went into this museum.Theres a really cool elevator puppet show, lots of shops to walk in and out on your own to discover. Theres also a neat little movie theater that actually has showing times for a movie about the oil boom. I would go again!

We visited family in Tyler and they took us here for a day outing with the kids. We didnt know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. The exhibits chronicle the great East Texas oil boom during the prohibition (1930s). An elevator ride, interactive diorama, and a full scale model of downtown Kilgore complete with animatronics are some of the highlights. The kids loved running around and exploring the different areas of the museum. A fun day was had by all!

One of the best museums we have visited. The ticket prices are very reasonable esp. considering that they have a lot to offer. The museum consists of different areas - artefacts, photos, small theatre with timed shows about the discovery of oil in the area, replica village with moving and talking dolls, a discovery elevator ride (made to look like its going down into the earths core). Plenty for kids to learn from. Decent gift shop and nog overcrowded.
